question about rom and rom manager? - General Questions and Answers

Hopefully this question hasn't already asked before, but after some research and rooting my phone with the superoneclick root for my t-mo vibrant, sucessfully. I am not unable to do a backup of my phone using the recovery. I loaded a recovery image using rom manager. It says I am using clockworks recovery. But when i attempt to reboot in recovery, or do a backup, it just says :can't open /cache/update.zip(bad) installation aborted.
do i need to do something to the bootloader? how can i proceed to access the recovery to do a backup so i can load a new rom. thank you

[Q] cannot boot in CWM recovery

Hello,
I have rooted my phone yesterday. Now I want to instal a custom ROM. I flashed the phone with ROM manager. Then I select the option: Boot into clockwork recovery. It reboots into recovery but the wrong one. It reboots into the android standard recovery. When I press on apply update.zip it will say signature failed.
I really have no clue what to do, please help me.
Try re-downloading the update.zip file again to make sure that one isnt corrupted
I have the same issue can't boot into clockworkmod. The samsung stock loader shows up
Select update.zip and it should load cwm

[Q] Need some help!!

Im trying to flash the Clockwork Recovery mod to my sidekick but every time I boot in recovery I keep getting the stock recovery screen. First of all I rooted my phone using the latest version of SuperOneclick Root. Once the phone was rooted I installed both root explorer and rom manager.
I downloaded the modified binary recovery file and replaced it in system/bin using Root Explorer. I used Rom manager to flash the CWM and it supposedly intalled it (it says version 4.0.0.2). I tried to reboot on recovery but it doesnt boot the CWM recovery screen. I the tried donwloading the CWM and placing the update.zip file in the root of my SD card. I then rebooted into recovery and selecte reintall packages and i get the following:
E: signature verification failed.. installation aborted?
Im guessing its the binary recovery file that's causing the problem but I've tried replacing the file again and it wont work. Anyway, does anyone have any idea whats going on and how I can successfully install the clockwork recovery mod??
Yes that would say that it isn't using the correct modded recovery binary. use my modded oneclickroot script to push the correct recovery and update, and it should work.

Thank you so much it worked like a charm!! One question, every time I boot in recovery now, it boots in the stock recovery. In order to boot CWM i have to select reinstall packages every time is this normal??
Currently that's normal. I've got the same thing on mine.

Click to collapse
Yes that CWM is a fake flash and doesn't actually replace your stock recovery so you would have to reinstall packages everytime, unless you flash bali kernel which has the red CWM that replaces the stock recovery when you boot into recovery mode

EDIT: sniped by ayoteddy.
That is normal, as that script uses the "fake flash" instead of having CWM built into the kernel.
A fake flash technique uses a modded recovery binary that doesn't check for signature verification, allowing us to boot into CWM from a stock looking recovery, even on a stock kernel.
In order to have recovery boot straight to CWM, you need to have it built into the kernel, which currently only exists on the Bali kernel (as there's no need to build it for another kernel).

[Q] Not able to install custom rom.

Hello,
I installed a custom ROM on my samsung infuse some months ago.
I wanted to install a new one and in the process, I bricked my phone.
I used ODIN3 v1.7 software to unbrick my phone but now I am not able to install the CWM recovery.
I tried following things:
1. Used ROM Manger app to install CWM recovery but no success. It does
not pass the SAMSUNG screen
2. Deleted the file /system/bin/recovery and then started the process but
no success. It does not pass the SAMSUNG screen
3. Copied the CWM recovery onto /sdcard and tried to install it but it
errors out with some permission issue.
Please let me know how do I fix this problem?
Try this it has always got me out of this type of situation.

Thank you very much for the help.
I have tried this but did not help me.
I will try it again and see if I am able to flash ClockworkMod Recovery.
This is what I did:
I unbricked my phone using the link.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1116251
Then, I rooted my phone using SuperOneClick.
Then, using the ROM manager, I downloaded the CWM recovery.
While I was trying to install it, I got "Signature invalid" error.
Hence, I 3e modded my phone by deleting the recovery file /system/bin and copying the recovery file from the following location into /system/bin
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=909213
Now, when I tried to reboot my phone and enter into 3e recovery, the phone starts and it does not pass after SAMSUNG black screen.
Am I doing some wrong?

[Q] Noob question: How to use CWN ROM Manager to install Custom ROMs?

Just rooted my phone, unlocked bootloader and set SuperCID and also installed CWN Recovery.
However, I've install CWM ROM Manager and it cribs about how it can't proceed because I have no Recovery installed. But I do! What could I have done wrong?
it's a known issue. for now, you can launch ROM Manager and choose the option to "Reboot into Recovery". your phone will reboot to recovery and from there you can select a ROM to flash to your device (assuming you've saved the ROM file to your OneXL).
You don't need ROM Manager to flash anything. Just do it from CWM.
Oh! I didn't realize I could use just the Recovery thing. Got everything running just fine. Thanks folks!
Yeah, I don't think ROM Manager even wipes or flashes anything on its own. It just provides a different interface for recovery (reboots the phone and makes those selections for you). And it also provides an interface to browse and download ROMs.

[Q] Can you root the HTC Wildfire S without custom recovery such as CWM?

Basically I followed a guide on here before to root my phone with the simple procedure:-
1. Unlock bootloader at HTCDev
2. Install clockwork mod via fastboot recovery custom_recovery.img
3. Install zip from SD card using CWM (root.zip - includes all root items)
4. Update Superuser via PlayStore
These are the steps I followed when I first rooted my phone, however after a while my link2d and something else was causing my apps to crash, and eventually link2sd kept asking for root permission, and superuser would freeze. For about 7 hours last night I spend trying to fix my phone, which I did by doing a factory reset, then restored my stock ROM using CWM, then loading up a stock recovery.img file which I found on here somewhere, and then eventually I got my phone back to normal. By the way when you go through the bootloader and select recovery, when I get onto it, it justs sits there with a disk icon and a red 'X' or something, is this normal? However, want really p***ed me off was that I thought restoring a backup using CWM also restores the recovery and completely removes the CWM. My question is, instead of me going through all this hassle, is there a way I can FULLY backup my phone and then attempt a root without CWM or any other custom recovery? I have already tried the HTC super tool v3, superoneclickroot and another quick root that was advertised on here, and neither of them work.
My outcome would be to simply have root privileges on the stock ROM on my HTC Wildfire S (S-ON) 2.26.401.3, and if and have a full backup of the phone as though it was new (no root, no CWM etc.) and if a problem occurs I can simply restore everything.
