[Kernel] Ziggy471's 2.6.32.25 Sense [ck2, BFS357, BFQ, SLUB, CIFS, EXT4, gpu+ etc...] - Desire Android Development

Here is the latest Ziggy471 kernel for the Bravo, this is a sense kernel. I will be maintaining this thread on behalf of ziggy471 as I worked with him in the development of this kernel. I will be taking most questions and support within this thread.
Code:
Changelog:
Added LZMA compression for the kernel image, makes it uber small. This should help with the few non-booters still left. Also, since it’s so small, EVERYTHING is built in, except wifi and on the EVO, wimax.
Moved the default boot speed back down to 998MHz, didn’t realize that some couldn’t run 1.113GHz, sorry about that.
Removed ALL debugging support in the kernel, this will speed it up and also makes it smaller.
Everything else is still the same, ck2, BFS357, BFQ, SLUB, CIFS, EXT4, gpu+, sd card speed up, etc…
Until I figure some things out with the AOSP kernels, I will not be releasing anymore, sorry.
Finally, for those that asked about the tweeks script I posted, it’s set for 1.113GHz max, if you want something different, edit the script and reboot. It’s the same script I had included in previous kernels, but had taken out for reasons.

hi,
i had the same prob.
i copied the wifi module bcm4329.ko from the kernel.zip manually into /system/lib/modules.
i also had to copy the screenstate-scaling script manully into /etc/init.d
than it worked like a charm.
have fun.

That's really odd, since those lines are in the the updater-script, so idk what the issue was.

FAST/optimized Kernel thread (renamed)

I've noticed a trend. a trend that shouldn't be happening: ALL OC kernels these days are based on Pretty Much Stock Cyanogen Source. And what I realized is, things like Wes Garner's .29 kernel, are faster. than the OC ones... How about some diversity here eh? I will compile some kernels with CFS and some other optimizations this summer break (in 3 days).
Jcarrz1 (I think this is the right section for this thread)
Others, please feel free to cook up a kernel and share it here. Please.
I'd be happy if someone cooked up a working ramhack for the latest oc-uv kernels, personally
Is the source for WG-Kernel actually available?

I was reading over on the Cyanogen forums that it's not possible to do the ramhack w/ 2.1 roms as in 2.1 needs 3D to run properly and most of the OC kernels have been specifically for 2.1.
hmm i havent noticed anything fast about 2.6.29 compared to 2.6.33
Ill keep testing

I think Wes just did some good optimization stuff, while cyan didn't, so an OC on top of that still doesn't equate to that. And your #8 is pretty fast.... i push it on top of many sense roms. no 3d tho in the performance.
Could you release a "universal" packaged #9? in this thread too.

You could use the wg kernel then apply the universal oc update.zip, right? Then it would be a fair match against cyan's oc rom.
Could someone post a kingklick kernel 8 zip download for me? I can't find it anywhere..

whoa i just realized that this post may have been offensive to you, cyan.
My intention was no offense, your kernel is by far the best for eclair/stock roms... but it seems that some settings/customizations that other devs have done, or even building their own from scratch (no cyan code at all) makes for better performance, but possibly at the cost of other things (battery, stability, etc.), which some of us are willing to sacrifice. example of king kernel #8, one of my favorites; here is the config for the zimage. Its fast, trust me.

haha magic. yea it seems like a combo of different specifications (see my above post) makes for a good kernel.
lmao @ this thread

[kernel][NR]2.1sense-2.6.29-6.35-710mhz[recovery-RA-magic+-v1.7.0.1]

*6.35 radio and 1.76 spl only*
I've been posting a few kernels in different threads, time for it's own thread now.
This kernel has been tested on several of the 2.1 rogers releases, currently on Seo's rom cause I like minimalist and can add what I want.
It has ext2,3,4, squashfs, tunneling, compcache is available if the rom supports it as is swap.
Right now I have freq tables up to 710, the default boot is 528mhz and min is 122, use set cpu to set up what you want, I personally use 480/672 and have no battery problems at all.
(don't forget to detect freq on first start in setcpu)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
*Flash from recovery*
carz-2.6.29-710 kernel This is a new compile with max default at 528 on boot, 710 max with setcpu.
*NEW*
Here are some perflock kernels, screen off 245/245 screen on 480/ * , 528 is same as htc settings. I've eliminated all freq between max and min to minimize switching on each kernel. No setcpu needed!
MD5: 0c7f19441794a0ce27c5eed37baf18f0
carz-2.6.29-528-perflock-v1.0
MD5: 4a3024dbc3333970222d68efb6237903
carz-2.6.29-595-perflock-v1.0
MD5: bc88fdf6f26eb8f1ce7f735622e66b1a
carz-2.6.29-672-perflock-v1.0 < my fav
MD5: d245534b7aad9fa1b85b2cc4e3749077
carz-2.6.29-710-perflock-v1.0
MD5: 49fcf0cdecad0ddf3692d5d211598e96
I found I have to wipe cache and dalvik-cache when going from 710 no perflock to any perflock kernel, also the other way around
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have also put together a recovery for our new radio magics, it's AR's 1.7.0.1 for hero built with my kernel, this new recovery takes care of the slow sd mounting and fixes several issues. It also makes our magics appear as a magic for roms now I believe, I have to check.
recovery-AR-magic+-1.7.0.1
MD5: 762f4272f8d7172e49483d76c8ea91cb
Test it out with fastboot:
Code:
fastboot boot recovery-RA-magic+-v1.7.0.1.img
Flash with fastboot:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery-RA-magic+-v1.7.0.1.img
Thank you Amon-Ra for the recovery work.

Hmm, I'm getting 2.85 with that kernel, I have noticed a reboot after loading completely the first time helps.
The recovery doesn't load at all on a normal boot so it it shouldn't affect the rom at all as far as I can see.

I have not compiled any kernel. I've used the kernel from yoshi rom because it worked well with my compiled system and radio/spl.
I'm new to the Magic's XDA room because I have bought this phone a couple of days ago. If you can mention to me who thanks for the kernel I will append their names to the first post, I don't want to stole anyone's work.
Also for the question, I don't know the answer.. I'm new to this phone and it's not my main phone so I don't use it so much.. If you can do some experiments I think it will be useful also for others.

Ok. I will test those two and after that i'll give feedback. Does it feel faster or stabler than Ginger Yoshi in your opinion? I know that the a creator always think that his work is the best, but i can't help it to ask anyway.
I've used ginger yoshi for about 5 minutes just to see if angry birds runs also on others rom so slow...
I don't know what rom it's faster sorry
Hi again!
I can confirm that both farmatito's and pershoot's kernel works with this ROM. The ROM boots ok, but it seems a little slow. Not slower than Yoshi, but slower than carz's CM7. I don't think yoshi is a good ROM for you to look at in order to enhance your ROM. I don't know why, and it could be something that i do wrong, but Ginger Yoshi is the slowest GB ROM for Magic right now.
About your ROM itself. I think multi-language should be a priority in your list. I get some FC here and there, but nothing unbearable. In short, it's a pretty good ROM for a first try! Although i think it still needs some work on it.
I'll keep an eye on this thread. Keep up with this work. It as potential. Good luck!
Greetings
Fantastic work!
Brilliant Rom, I couldn't find any GB Roms that would work on my phone and then stumbled upon this one ;-).............fantastic.
One issue though...........I have the same radio and spl as the creator but whenever I try and use live wallpapers they all force close, except maps?!?
It may be the kernel but I thought I would ask if any one has has similar issues.
I will take a look to live wallpaper crashes today, maybe I can find what is wrong.

I get it work. Go to the Settings menu, Cyanogenmod, Performance, and put the VM size to 24 mb, and also turn on the JIT Compiler.
We were running out of memory with the bitmap of the wallpaper. In the next release I'll try to hard code this options into the rom.
Also if you're not using live wallpaper that things will help with performance.
Now with the cpu at 614 mhz I'm doing 360-370 on Quadrant
I'm downloading your rom now. I'll try it soon. Thank you for your job!

SalvageMod is a AOSP project developed by myself, Barnacles10, and echoside.
This software is built from the Android open source project 2.3.5 branch.
We are offering 1.4 both odex and deodex. Keep in mind, most themers theme deodex ROMs.
Make sure to choose what the google add-on that corresponds with your ROM choice.

Its aosp. They all work.
Downloading now.
I achieved a Quadrant score of 1460 with the last build. I'll report back after flash and restore.
Great job man. I'm just curious. Did you odex post-build or did you compile Rom with an odex option? Ive been playing with Rom building for some time now and have only messed with sense. I managed to build a stock aosp Rom the other day but would like to learn more about aosp building. Feel free to pm because I feel this post is off-topic. Thanks man.
Now that I have root again I might have to give this a go (would be first aosp Rom).

will there be any updates to the kernal? I'm not sure if HTC releasing source code changes anything...
Also does this rom still have the problem with the sensors that plagued the cm and deck roms?
Hmmm... No Go. After several attempts installing the fedex version; I restored V1.3. I was never able to boot past the htc EVO 4G screen.

Well, what did you do? Because I highly doubt there is an issue giving the fact I have been compiling and flashing 10+ times since last night. Mind walking me through with that you did?

Being an AOSP ROM, these do not rely on the HTC kernel code release. There are any of several fine kernels to choose from, so its virtually always possible to find one that your phone likes.
Regarding the 'problem with the sensors', can you elaborate on that? I've used a couple versions of the Evo-deck ROM and have yet to experience any issue.
I look forward to trying this ROM! For some reason, I couldn't get the 1.3 to run on my phone, but that could have been a bad download or similar issue. I was just too busy at that time. But I read so much good about the SalvageMod...I gotta give it a go!
Thank you for your time.
P.S: Thank you for offering the community both odex and deodex versions! I love themes, but the odex ROMs run way quicker on my phone.
Looks good I'll give it a try later.
Thanks lit.

well it got in a bootloop. Was worth a try though, reformatted SD and got it back to normal. Great rom
I noticed there was a 1.4 deodexed Gapps package, but I didn't see one for 1.4 odexed.
I am assuming to use the odexed gapps that were already posted, but wanted to double check.

Ah, I did run into this problem occasionally. I also found that when I would press the power button to wake the phone up when asleep I had to hold the power button down for a few seconds or it wouldn't wake up. I was using the SZ 2.2.1 kernel at the time, and later found that I experienced these things when using the smartass or SavageZen governors. I switched to InteractiveX and didn't experience them any more.
Thank you for your time.
Dang, lithid, I was just about to flash & test your kernel with the Synergy RLS-1 rom and then I saw this: Salvage-Mod 1.4....I was like, "WHAT!" ...Oh well, your new kernel can wait...hahaha.......flashing the latest Salvage-Mod cannot wait. Thank you.

First off, thanks for making a kernel with that feature. I certainly enjoy fooling with MultiROM and that's a requirement for the host ROM.
At the same time, I don't know that the kernel posted is successful. I flashed the CodeCraft-M8_PH-kexec-hardboot.zip posted in the OP on my device running Santod's latest NuSense build. Using the MultiROM Manager, it states that the kernel does not have the kexec-hardboot patch.
I can't say I have high proficiency with MultiROM or what this specific kernel feature is otherwise, so let me know if there is a specific log that it would be useful for me to attach. I wasn't sure if a logcat would say much in this instance.

Okay so that one was my bad . Its in the code just wasn't initialized in the config. I have a new one cooking right now. If its not to much trouble, can you flash it to check if the problem persist?
Happy to. Watching for the new posting. Thank you for your efforts to the community.

All set, same name new zip
Still no luck. I installed the kernel once with Flashify and a second time just from recovery to be sure. In both cases, I receive the message that the kernel doesn't have the kexec-hardboot patch.

Not sure what is up with the download counter, but yes, I've tried that copy as well. Screenshot is attached of the feedback I get from the MultiROM Manager program (and yes, I know I didn't install the main MultiROM file yet. This still works for detecting kernel ability, or it has in previous builds). Please let me know if there is any other log source I can provide.
Well I got it working and new zip is uploaded
@Evolutionmods what's setting should I have to advoid reboots when running antutu?
