[kernel][NR]2.1sense-2.6.29-6.35-710mhz[recovery-RA-magic+-v1.7.0.1] - myTouch 3G, Magic Android Development

*6.35 radio and 1.76 spl only*
I've been posting a few kernels in different threads, time for it's own thread now.
This kernel has been tested on several of the 2.1 rogers releases, currently on Seo's rom cause I like minimalist and can add what I want.
It has ext2,3,4, squashfs, tunneling, compcache is available if the rom supports it as is swap.
Right now I have freq tables up to 710, the default boot is 528mhz and min is 122, use set cpu to set up what you want, I personally use 480/672 and have no battery problems at all.
(don't forget to detect freq on first start in setcpu)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
*Flash from recovery*
carz-2.6.29-710 kernel This is a new compile with max default at 528 on boot, 710 max with setcpu.
*NEW*
Here are some perflock kernels, screen off 245/245 screen on 480/ * , 528 is same as htc settings. I've eliminated all freq between max and min to minimize switching on each kernel. No setcpu needed!
MD5: 0c7f19441794a0ce27c5eed37baf18f0
carz-2.6.29-528-perflock-v1.0
MD5: 4a3024dbc3333970222d68efb6237903
carz-2.6.29-595-perflock-v1.0
MD5: bc88fdf6f26eb8f1ce7f735622e66b1a
carz-2.6.29-672-perflock-v1.0 < my fav
MD5: d245534b7aad9fa1b85b2cc4e3749077
carz-2.6.29-710-perflock-v1.0
MD5: 49fcf0cdecad0ddf3692d5d211598e96
I found I have to wipe cache and dalvik-cache when going from 710 no perflock to any perflock kernel, also the other way around
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have also put together a recovery for our new radio magics, it's AR's 1.7.0.1 for hero built with my kernel, this new recovery takes care of the slow sd mounting and fixes several issues. It also makes our magics appear as a magic for roms now I believe, I have to check.
recovery-AR-magic+-1.7.0.1
MD5: 762f4272f8d7172e49483d76c8ea91cb
Test it out with fastboot:
Code:
fastboot boot recovery-RA-magic+-v1.7.0.1.img
Flash with fastboot:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery-RA-magic+-v1.7.0.1.img
Thank you Amon-Ra for the recovery work.

I've added a few perflock kernels in OP

In linpack i get only 2.1 mflops. Why? Im using first of your kernels.
Sent from my HTC Magic using Tapatalk

Does perflock mean that I don't have to install/use setcpu to use OC?

This kernel is for flashing through the recovery, if I want to put in ROM, as I do?
Thanks.

hi carz12,
great work man!
I've flashed your kernel (first in the list) and setCpu 480/672...and my linpack score is only 2.54
can this be related to the recovery? I'm not using recovery-AR-magic+-1.7.0.1, but instead the old and reliable recovery-RA-Magic32A-6.35-v1.6.2NewRecovery.
please let me know what you think...

Hmm, I'm getting 2.85 with that kernel, I have noticed a reboot after loading completely the first time helps.
The recovery doesn't load at all on a normal boot so it it shouldn't affect the rom at all as far as I can see.

you can take the zImage and combine it with your ramdisk and make a boot.img, use my wlan.ko and ramzswap (if you want to enable compcache)

LOCKSCREEN Wallpapers
To change lockscreen wallpaper, first download and unzip the file somewhere then cd to it and use this command:
Code:
adb push wallpaper_file_name_here.jpg /system/etc/lockscreen/port/htc_wallpaper_01_lockscreen.jpg
Note that we are replacing a file so the destination filename must always be htc_wallpaper_01_lockscreen.jpg
If you want to use your own lockscreen wallpaper, then use an image editing software (like GIMP) to resize the image to 455x320 pixels. Then push it using the command shown above.

I can not install this ROM
I installed JacXHero 1.2 before but I can not install this ROM,
I wiped my data before install new ROM but my device did not boot after apply update.zip
Do you have a 32A device? Is it MT3G? Sorry I have an HTC Magic 32A device and cannot test MT3G devices.
p.s. Notification LED on twitter is working for me, but not when charging or missed call etc. But still that's sth right?
H and E icons working?
Are Hsdpa/Edge icons present in this rom? Previous one only shows G/3G in I remember.
I think not, though I can't really test because I don't have HSDPA in my area. But its just an icon! If you know where it is located then you can push it via adb I suppose...
what is the difference between this jacheroski and jacheroski 2.7.4r2.. is that just someone elses additions to jachero1.2

Try Drizzy's no name Hero v3 (ported by bcrook). Here you are!!
That's the best hero rom for me atm. I bet most optimization in this rom is done in the kernel which we can't use if HTC doesn't release the source...
I just found one that all works for me (32A)
I'm in love for my hero
Search myhero-08 and you'll get it
somebody please include this lock scren in the build..

1.4 Up Already
1.4 is up here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=534479
Yes I will port tomorrow (currently not at my linux box). JAC says this has fully working LEDs Yay!!
@lesjow: I will find the solution. Its just some jpgs needed to be pushed from other roms
i see the original firmwares are getting all these new kernel and kernel mods.
Are we missing out on anything since ports are done by replacing the kernel with rogers version?
Wipe/flash wont boot
i recovery boot, wipe the handset, flash this rom, reboot
and IT HANGS AT THE MAGIC SCREEN
THATS IT.
i tried 1.4 by the way HTC MAGIC 32A 288MB

Please include that lockscreen in your next port...btw, i believe its not just some jpegs, the curve box seem integrated with the lockscreen app, coz if your change wallpaper of lockscreen, the curve box (with carrie and date in it) will still exist...
i just hope you find a way to push it..

[Kernel] Ziggy471's 2.6.32.25 Sense [ck2, BFS357, BFQ, SLUB, CIFS, EXT4, gpu+ etc...]

Here is the latest Ziggy471 kernel for the Bravo, this is a sense kernel. I will be maintaining this thread on behalf of ziggy471 as I worked with him in the development of this kernel. I will be taking most questions and support within this thread.
Code:
Changelog:
Added LZMA compression for the kernel image, makes it uber small. This should help with the few non-booters still left. Also, since it’s so small, EVERYTHING is built in, except wifi and on the EVO, wimax.
Moved the default boot speed back down to 998MHz, didn’t realize that some couldn’t run 1.113GHz, sorry about that.
Removed ALL debugging support in the kernel, this will speed it up and also makes it smaller.
Everything else is still the same, ck2, BFS357, BFQ, SLUB, CIFS, EXT4, gpu+, sd card speed up, etc…
Until I figure some things out with the AOSP kernels, I will not be releasing anymore, sorry.
Finally, for those that asked about the tweeks script I posted, it’s set for 1.113GHz max, if you want something different, edit the script and reboot. It’s the same script I had included in previous kernels, but had taken out for reasons.

i had the same prob.
i copied the wifi module bcm4329.ko from the kernel.zip manually into /system/lib/modules.
i also had to copy the screenstate-scaling script manully into /etc/init.d
than it worked like a charm.

That's really odd, since those lines are in the the updater-script, so idk what the issue was.

I have not compiled any kernel. I've used the kernel from yoshi rom because it worked well with my compiled system and radio/spl.
I'm new to the Magic's XDA room because I have bought this phone a couple of days ago. If you can mention to me who thanks for the kernel I will append their names to the first post, I don't want to stole anyone's work.
Also for the question, I don't know the answer.. I'm new to this phone and it's not my main phone so I don't use it so much.. If you can do some experiments I think it will be useful also for others.

Ok. I will test those two and after that i'll give feedback. Does it feel faster or stabler than Ginger Yoshi in your opinion? I know that the a creator always think that his work is the best, but i can't help it to ask anyway.
I've used ginger yoshi for about 5 minutes just to see if angry birds runs also on others rom so slow...
I don't know what rom it's faster sorry
Hi again!
I can confirm that both farmatito's and pershoot's kernel works with this ROM. The ROM boots ok, but it seems a little slow. Not slower than Yoshi, but slower than carz's CM7. I don't think yoshi is a good ROM for you to look at in order to enhance your ROM. I don't know why, and it could be something that i do wrong, but Ginger Yoshi is the slowest GB ROM for Magic right now.
About your ROM itself. I think multi-language should be a priority in your list. I get some FC here and there, but nothing unbearable. In short, it's a pretty good ROM for a first try! Although i think it still needs some work on it.
I'll keep an eye on this thread. Keep up with this work. It as potential. Good luck!
Greetings
Fantastic work!
Brilliant Rom, I couldn't find any GB Roms that would work on my phone and then stumbled upon this one ;-).............fantastic.
One issue though...........I have the same radio and spl as the creator but whenever I try and use live wallpapers they all force close, except maps?!?
It may be the kernel but I thought I would ask if any one has has similar issues.
I will take a look to live wallpaper crashes today, maybe I can find what is wrong.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA Premium App

I get it work. Go to the Settings menu, Cyanogenmod, Performance, and put the VM size to 24 mb, and also turn on the JIT Compiler.
We were running out of memory with the bitmap of the wallpaper. In the next release I'll try to hard code this options into the rom.
Also if you're not using live wallpaper that things will help with performance.
Now with the cpu at 614 mhz I'm doing 360-370 on Quadrant
I'm downloading your rom now. I'll try it soon. Thank you for your job!
Feedback soon....

Sorry, I don't know. I have not tested it or better, I don't even know what are the original SPL and Radio because I've bought the magic used.

Best rom in shappire section in this moment!!!
It seems everything work, but I'll have to test the rom for at least 5 or 6 days...

Of course, this rom is in beta right now, it is working, but you may encounter lag, or long loading times, or running out of data errors. This will be fixed in future releases by either xillius200, infinimint, or e334.

Troubleshooting through logcat: -shows /system/bin/sh error: You did not flash custom mtd correctly, please double check your procedures and follow directions closely!
-nothing shows in logcat after 5 min: You did not flash kernel
-libsurfaceflinger/etc/etc has died: Possible that you have not partitioned sdcard correctly. You need a fat32 partition, 512mb ext4 partition, and a 64mb swap partition.
-phone reboots into recovery for no reason: Please fastboot wipe and closely follow the procedures again.
-I did everything correctly but my phone still won't boot! There is a chance that you did not remove your old 1.5.6 Custom MTD Before flashing Custom MTD 1.5.9 alpha3. Please remove your old version 1.5.6 Custom MTD and then boot into bootloader and type in 'fastboot erase system -w' and then re-flash custom MTD 1.5.9.

e334, why don't just integrate the wifi fix into the rom directly? cause i tried that before with test12 and wifi is working properly for me even during setup screens.
xillius200, go change ur link in the signature
edit : e334, i thought you are going to release new version with this thread, thats why said bout the wifi fix..lols..anyway the download rom link should be in the step by step after "flash the ROM" cause it will be easier to find.
It was slow for me if I flashed rom, kernel, boot patcher, wifi, and then reboot.. Next version will be better, with xillius200's optimization

Nice job Xillius200 and e334 i will be flashing this tonight! Wanting to the the HTC Sensation whenever it gets to the states!! so this will be fun to play with!!
Edit: Not bad speed it slows at times, but then speedy at others. love the UI!! really makes me want the htc sensation lol
Yay! My Thread
Whoever made this cool signature, gimme one, cause fonts are from me <3
Best ROM ever <3
OK this is a dumb thing to ask but why do we have to signup and give our fone number to HTC for this rom?
But I must say this looking very very nice. Thanks for your hard work
EDIT=I see it's for apps used in HTC Sense...or have I got it wrong...
EDIT-2=I tried all what was on the OP and nothing worked so I flashed ezBiffTestKernel20101031-ebi0_S.zip now it's booting.
I don't have a ram hack or anything like that so that could be the problem..will post back when it's done.

xD if your on about the signature in mine and e334 that woulde be me I just modified yours a tiny bit made it longer and chnaged colours xD your signature was awesome!!!! just a bit to big height wise lol
think made too long though xD my screen resolution is 1920x1080 so looks ok for me lol at work it's off the damn screen xD
So far so good after flashing ezBiffTestKernel20101031-ebi0_S.zip
For anyone else flashing this rom I would get Droid Explorer and use it's log cat console so you can see when the rom has finished installing
as it takes a long time.
Going to put some apps on now and see(it only shows 6.4MB free in settings)
it won't sign into my gmail account says "can't establish a reliable Data connection" wireless is working ok.
No lights on the keyboard when you open it and no virtual keyboard showing.
And when I call the phone it lights up but no sound untill about 30 secs after.
This will be a great rom when the beta is over.

I will complete this thread at a later time, but for the next month I'll have to study a lot , so maybe no time for uploading and completing thread.
You can disable the CRT animation. You go to Settings->Display->You turn off the Screen off animation.
I haven't found any bugs yet, everything works very smooth and even YouTube works! :good:
I think this is the best ROM for our "legacy" device

i really want to try this rom in my old htc magic!
I would like to know wich recovery do you use and recommend to flash your rom.
another question is the funcionability of the apps with this rom
thank you for all your work for "our" device.

I think you can only flash it with CWM recovery.
All apps that work on GB, will work in ICS.
But the Play Store will show a lot more apps, but a lot of them will force close when you try to open them.
But in general, everything should be smoother.
ok. This rom is good. But it is slow when download from playstore. Thanks!
Thanks for CM9, i was looking for some stable rom
I will try this ROM and will let u know my findings
Thank you for porting this over. I have neglected my HTC Magic for quite some time now, finally got it out, dusted it and went through the flashing bits for this. Stable and much smoother than I expected to have on a (relatively) dated device. Are the processor options under 'Performance' settings disabled or is it meant to be on 'ondemand' all the time?

You can't change any options in Performance. I'll see if I can change that, because now, if the displayed CPU speeds are right, the CPU is constantly running on 710 Mhz when you used it.
Default cpu frequence 710MHz is not stable enough to bootup my phone, could you please lower down to 650MHz please?

Yes, I flashed it. During boot, cat /proc/cpuinfo get 710MHz and boot failed. After set it to 620MHz, it bootup success.
Your ROM works great, thanks!

Ok, thanks! I'll set it to a lower speed in next version.
I would really advise against overclocking by default. The majority of these devices can overclock to acceptable speeds, but others can't do much at all. My mytouch 3g, for example, would freeze at anything above 595mhz, and it was most stable at 537 or below. So even with that lower overclock you decided on, I still wouldn't be able to use this without modifying the rom.
There are plenty of ways to make this recommended, but optional. You could put an oc script in a separate zip to flash. Or you could start using the fancy Aroma installer. Ezterry's yesno binary is really easy to implement.

I didn't know the cpu was running at a higher speed. I thought it was a bug in performance section, who was showing the wrong speed, since my HTC Magic normally freezes at 710 Mhz.
It's been years since I last flashed a MyTouch3G (32B)... Just got back one that I'd gifted away two years ago, it decided not to boot around Christmas and I brought it home to wipe/reflash.
Glad to see work still being done on this old device! It's ahead of my G2X in Roms.. That's effin sad.
Now if I can just remember how you flash a kernel on this thing....
EDIT:
I'm a bit confused about the kernel.... the thread linked doesn't actually seem to be any specific kernel??? More "how to flash a kernel safely" and hboot/radio files. I already have the required hboot/radio! So which kernel do I use??
EDIT 2:
N/m.... can't be assed to sit here all night trying to figure out which kernel to use on an antique phone. Went with Gingerbread instead.

You have to take a working 32B kernel, preferably a flashable zip. The link in the opening post isn't directing to a kernel, but search for it in the G1 section and you will find a lot kernels.
ICS is much faster, so I would suggest you try it.
Can you point me into the right direction? My dad has an old Magic 32B with Radio 27.08. What Kernel should i use? Or what ICS Version are you talking about?
Thanks in advance.
when is out the final version?
