I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the correct forum; or if someone could just answer my question but here goes. Earlier today I was reading about sbc kernels and I was wondering if I were to flash a aosp sbc kernel would I still be able to use setcpu? I'm using cm6.1.2
I wasn't aware the evo shift had a sbc kernel..

Don't believe it does... publicly anyway.
If you flash a kernel from another vendor then it'll just loop, but if you flash a kernel that's proven to work for Speedy, then yes SetCPU will work
Sent from my MikShift.
If you move up to CM7, you should not use SetCPU. CM7 has CPU options built-in by going to Settings > CyanogenMod Settings > Performance > CPU Settings.

Well android version wise it is a step up from 2.2 to 2.3...
Some might not think it is a step up opinion wise, but to each their own

I don't think ANYone would rather run 2.2 than 2.3... but then again... here I am sitting on MikShift, nothing AOSP or 2.3 about it!

Yeah... now that I have a phone that can handle sense without slowing to a crawl, I actually enjoy it. It is full of eye candy. There isn't a whole lot of significant changes in 2.3 as compared to 2.2 like there was from 2.1 to 2.2, either, so I haven't stuck with cyanogen yet this time... I feel it coming though. That need for speed is calling...
Oppz my bad I meant evo 4g not the shift. So as of right now I'm fine using setcpu but once I flash cm7 I should then uninstall it. I'm waiting until there is a stable release of cm7 until I flash but, I am also considering the possibility now because bluetooth isn't working right now and I wanna get a feel for cm7 =D

So you have the Evo? Not the Shift? The Evo forum might be a better place to ask if that's the case, you're in the Shift forum. If you are talking about the Shift then try out CM7. It is stable, just has a few known bugs.
^ Shift Faced
Oh wow I didn't even realize that I had posted this in the shift forum. I guess I didn't read it correctly but I'm glad to know I have some feedback if I need it. But even if this is the shift forum wouldn't the answer be the same for the regular evo 4g?
Hey!! <3
I recently lost my Vibrant in chicago, being drunk in a taxi. So I recently picked up a Nexus S. I'm coming from a Vibrant with TeamWhiskey's Bionix and some kernels like Overclock, DoW, etc...
I figured the best route to take on the Nexus S is CM7 right now, so i'm wondering if people are using any overclock kernels with CM7? Anything stable?
I got some reading to do, but thank you for the quick response
Netarchy and morfic both have oc kernels out right now. Morfics is called honity and has a 1.2ghz version and a 1.4 ghz version. Netarchy is oc up to 1.4 I believe. Both have voodoo color and sound built in. Honity has backlight notification as well. Netarchy will include bln when neldar officially releases it. These are the most popular. Netarchy is the most stable IMO bc I can't get honity to boot on cm7 build 28 lol. Hope this helps.

+1 for Netarchy's kernels. He releases updates in a timely fashion and they're well done.
Neither kernels should disappoint you though, try both and see which one fits you.
And welcome to the Nexus S forum.
Thanks guys, <3!!

Right, there are two from morfic, excellent kernels one is regular froyo, the other is maxmem which gives you 48mb extra of memory, both are great but for me they both gave me minor problems, sleep of death and browser lockups...

I am testing this now, praying the BFS scheduler finally gives me a lag free CM7 experience. Is the minmax governor a better performer than smartass?
I prefer x99's smartass, I think he just tweaked it recently on his github. I think minmax is a older govenor. I also get better battery life with the smartass
I just added minmax for testing purposes and to have more governor options
Thanks for the update will test over the weekend.

Nice, well I tested it to the max for a whole day using gps navigation, wifi, 4g, pretty much everything lol. Data connection also seems better as well.
Soo far everything is working good. My wifi works perfect which I couldn't get to work with x99's kernel no matter how I tried flashing it including a full wipe.
What speed does this kernel boot at? Is there any way you can implement any of Scary's goodies into your kernel? I liked that his let's you do 184 min. Also any way to go higher than 1.5 ghz as I like using 1.8 at times. What is the sleep max on say ondemand etc. Anyway your gonna do undervolting?
Anyway thanks for the kernel and the hard work!

yes as soon as my team member get's back from vaction we'll be working on things like that. So the kernel can be worked on more
I basicly pushed this kernel out as soon as I had it working perfectly
After an hour or so of testing I have experienced no launcher or messenger app lag, whatever you did here its working for me.. I wonder if its the BFS? Do you know if bcnice aosp kernel used this too? His kernel is the only other like this that performed so well..

yes I do think it's bfs. I noticed how well the animations and graphics are so smooth. If I went back to none bfs I don't think I'd like it haha
Not sure about bcnice has it
Don't install this kernel version over the latest nightly, some things like wifi seem to not be working. I'll work on a updated version as I really want to stay up-to-date haha
Updated kernel but I have to remove bfs due to compatibility issues
Soo far everything is running great. I have no issues running 1.8ghz at all if I'm using ondemand governor.
How much did you undervolt? Meaning is it kinda like scary's or more like Bc's or X99's.
Thanks for making a great kernel. Everything works for me perfect.
1 request... Can you add 184mhz like Scary had? My phone saves lots of battery when I use it.
Awesome kernel!!!! Very smooth and I as well have no issues oc'ing to 1.8ghz... Great job man, keep it up!!!! Thank you!!!

This is running well on on the latest shiftdeck rom. Fixed some minor video issues (lag) I was having with other kernels. Nice work!
<Blaze One>
This kernel is nice and fast on Shift Deck ROM but it seems to be a little rough on my battery. I've only been using it for about 4 hours, so maybe with some tweaking I can get it back up to par. Really enjoying the speed though.. Appreciate the great work.

Most of the changes in the nighties you are not going to notice a whole lot. The biggest changes are changes in the kernel. This kernel was built of the latest nightly kernel just a couple of days ago so it should be compatible with all the nightlies unless they mess with the kernel some more. But cyanogen just tweeted that we will have a rc soon So I'd just wait until then. Also I'm going to take a look at the stock ota update and see if I can hack the kernel and rom for us to intall without the latest hboot
Hi!
This is a CM7 kernel built for skyrocket, based on my 0.43pre kernel, orientation etc. should be hunky-dory under CM7 now, and overclocking should be good
Give 'er a shot if you use CM7!
AT&T CM7 v4
Rogers CM7 v4
v4 - fixed usb storage mounting, optimizations, added Android USB Accessory support to match CM7 ROM, adjusted init scripts to allow 192MHz
Further notes re: overclocking etc: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20438625&postcount=28
Please leave any CM7-specific feedback here, anything that applies to the general kernel stuff in my other thread if you would
BTW, if you found BLN (Backlight Notification) was not activating for enough notifications with ROMs using touchwiz framework, this one should activate BLN for all notifications, making it much nicer and useful!
Muchos thanks to XAviierG for kicking my butt on IRC to get this out the door after much procrastination

I would rage, but my phone won't even deep sleep with wifi on, so I don't mind.
I'll just stick with LTE, I'm trying to see how much data I can use this month, and see if I can get a throttle warning anyways.

Does ICS youtube/widget work with these cyanogenmod builds? I read theres some framework from icecream sandwich in them. Does this kernel fix call audio without gps on issue?
Still tracking NFC problem, it is on my to-do, took it out for a jaunt and bluetooth/wifi/cell data/rotation/etc. are working great - did seem to get a little hotter than TPC v3 ROM when overclocked though, possibly due to the OS using more GPU resources?
I have not run CM7 ROM at all before a few hours ago, so am not familiar with the call-audio-gps-bug. But I just turned GPS off and called my voicemail a bunch, seems fine!
Did you guys flash the cyanogenmod build in this forum or is the Tmobile version updated more than the build here? Thats my last question!! Thanks alot for the progress here. I miss all the development in the Captivate forum but I know we'll get there soon.
