Not sure how to describe this one.
Did an update OTA (I know ) before I did some further reading to use the Kies and now every time I restart the phone it comes back up and says that the software update was completed and to hit the "ok" button. It also has the notice of a missed call in the top menu as well.
Then if I go to the Software Update in Settings, it says "No Firmware".
Got Kies working and attached my phone through it, it says I'm up to date.
Any ideas on how to resolve this?
Nevermind, did the Odin 1 touch... starting over!

Hi everyone,
Yesterday I tried to update my HTC Wizard through Windows Update.
After the update was downloaded and installed it had to reboot.
But when the Windows Mobile screen appears, it gives me a "device authentication failure, Please contact the product manufacter. For reference, please provide your device ID.
Then a long serial of numbers.."
I tried to do a hard reset, but no result.
Is there a solution for this problem?
Regards and TIA
Rindert
never used windows update on the phone itself before so cant explain why that happened.
What rom are you using is it stock or one of the 6 or 6.1 builds.
might be worth flashing back to a stock rom if you can get into the tricolor boot loader mode as it doesnt sound bricked which would reset everything.
can you get into the phone with activesync to get at the files on the phone?
Windows Update actually WORKED for you? I have never even heard of an update being released via Windows Update on WinMo....are you sure thats what you did?
@ Funy
I have a MDA Vario, originally with WM5, but I've upgraded it to
WM6.
But never updated it to 6.1.
The problem is, I can't get into my phone through ActiveSync.
It freezes when the error appears.
Is there another way to get into the tricolor bootloader without ActiveSync?
@ ashashaur
Yeah, it did.
First the wizard (not the phone) checked for available updates.
There was a update available, so I tried to update it.
First he downloaded it, restart, and installed it.
When it was done, the phone had to restart, and after that, the problem occured.
note: I'm from the netherlands, so the grammar might be a bit strange...
Man, that is roayally wierd...as soon as I read this today, I hit me own phone upto the Windows Update page, and it promptly returned saying that there are no updates availible...I just dunno what to tell you...have you tried forcing your phone into bootloader mode?

yayayay!!!
I fixed it
Thx for all your help and support!!
I really appreciate it
Rindert
glad you got it fixed. what was the fix in the end?
I was able to get into the bootloader, so I could flash it again.
And it works
I need help from you guys. I have a Rogers i896 Captivate.
Today 2.2 was made available as an update on Kies, and silly me, believing that it would work properly, decided to do the update.
Just so you know, I have completely stock 2.1 on my phone, unrooted, nothing.
I plugged it in, backed up my SD card, backed up my contacts, then started downloading the update.
It then said it couldn't get into download mode, saying to try again later. I do, same result.
i try booting the phone into download mode, and Kies starts trying to connect to my phone. After a while, my phone screen turned a very light blue, and Kies told me the phone was unresponsive, and to restart the phone. I do, and voila. I get the magical connecting icon. I can't find a picture, but I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. The icon of a phone connecting to a PC, but there's a yellow exclamation mark.
This happens every time I press the power button, or if I try and enter recovery mode.
I can however enter download mode. I just don't know what to do with it. I haven't used Odin, and don't want to risk further damage.
More than anything, I just want a phone. At this point, I'm willing to use a non-stock ROM, although I'd prefer a Rogers ROM mostly, as the GPS actually seems to work sorta.
If anybody could walk me through the process, or link me to something that can help me do this.
*edit*
Wait, hold the phone.
I tried it one last time, and this time I got a popup in Kies saying my last upgrade attempt failed and my device may be unusable. click here to restore the original firmware. Currently doing that, we'll see how it goes. *crosses fingers*
Just put the phone in download mode then click on the update firmware button in kies.
It will probably say it has to restore the firmware that's fine just click through and it should finish and you'll be on 2.2 pm me if you have more problems

Nevermind all. Panicpost. I've got it figured out. Crisis averted.
Mods, feel free to lock/delete/move if you like.
However, for those who might have the same problem, if you can get into download mode, while in Kies, click firmware update, then at the bottom it will tell you you can restore the original firmware. I did that and the problem was fixed.
Now I'm going to be an idiot and try the 2.2 again
Actually, I just noticed. After "bricking", and restoring the firmware, I now have 2.2
Better yet, none of my apps or anything are gone! It just reset my homepages, Widgets and shortcuts are missing, but everything else is good.
whatever haha.
Actually if your in Canada the update has been out for a week now, but glad you have your phone working. I started the 2.2 thread and its mentioned in that thread how to get the 2.2 through Kies without issue.
Hi this is my very first post! I am new to android all together and i was doing pretty well till now. I have a vibrant that i flashed using odin with ICS_4.0.3_MR1-RC4.2_Vibrant. Here is a little help I found @ Vibrant Bricked? Maybe not. [E: Can't mount, Solved.] So cheers to him and where he found the info I have no idea so i give him credit for relaying the information.
Here it is:
Recently I bricked my Vibrant pretty seriously, I did a lot of searching and found that many people were experiencing the very same issue but few of them were able to find a solution.
I want to share exactly how I manged to get my phone restored, just in case anyone else finds themselves in the same situation.
*** PLEASE READ FULL POST CAREFULLY BEFORE PROCEEDING ***
The problem
After an Odin restore I found my phone was caught in a recovery loop and I was continually getting the following error:
E:Can't mount /dev/block/st110 (Invalid argument)
E:copy_dbdata_media:Can't mount DBDATA: copy default media content failed
The solution
Eventually I found this bit of info provided by user Windowlicker on the Samsung Galaxy S Forums.
Put your phone to download mode (hold down: volume down, home key, power)
Do not plug in your phone yet.
Start Odin3
Tick "Re-Partition", and also check that "Auto Reboot" and "F. Reset Time" have been ticked.
Click "PIT" button and select s1_odin_20100512.pit file.
Now, plug in the phone and wait until Odin finds it.
Click "Start" button... <Firmware update start...> <Get PIT for mapping...> appear. The phone will turn off and the screen indicates "Reset". Wait until Odin indicates "Pass".
Plug out your phone, remove the battery, put it back in and put phone to download mode again.
Click "Reset" button in Odin and untick "Re-Partition" box.
Do not select PIT file again. Just leave it empty.
Click "PDA" button and select "CODE" file.
Click "MODEM" button and select "MODEM" file.
Click "CSC" button and select "CSC" file.
Plug in the phone and wait until Odin finds it.
Click "Start" button and wait until phone reboots with the new software version.
(When it comes to the restore step I found that I needed to go back to the Stock 2.1 Vibrant ROM, JI2 & JI6 wouldn't work for me.)
I hope this info helps some folks out, I had completely given up on trying to restore, and I ordered a replacement from T-Mobile. A couple days later I found this solution. Now I'm waiting to receive a phone I no longer need, and will find a nice $20 delivery charge on my next TMO bill. The price of giving up too quickly I guess.
***ADDITIONAL NOTES BASED ON USER FEEDBACK***
I've noticed many people are getting stuck on the 7th step, 'where you are asked to remove the battery and place the phone in download mode'. I cannot stress enough that you need to be extremely patient during this step and should not remove the battery until after Odin indicates pass. This could take as long as 10 to 30 minutes, failure to wait could result in a 'true brick'.
Another step missing from the original instructions is to remove the External SD and SIM cards before starting this process. I'm not completely certain what the technical reason is behind this, but it does seem to help the process along.
Before starting it might also be to good make sure the screen saver and sleep modes on your PC are disabled, as some steps take a while and it might be possible for either of these processes to interrupt it.
Finally, I again want to stress patience. If during any step, things seem like they are taking longer than you think they should, go and make a sandwich, maybe play a game or watch some TV and give it a little while longer. Letting the phone sit too long during a step won't cause any problems, but removing it too soon could cause a brick.

Try this! Let me Know!
First off: Ive searched the forum and there are a few similar posts to my problem but I thought I would ask my question before trying any of the things Ive found because I think its in this mess because Ive messed somehting up so dont want to make it worse.....
So I got given an AFAIK unrooted GT-P5100 (from Belgium) by my friend to try and fix as they had got the Interpol/ FBI thing on it. So i looked around the web and tried Safe Mode but couldnt get that to work at all so I thought I would just do a factory reset. So I got into the options by pressing volume up or down (whichever one it is) and selected wipe cache partition it displayed "erasing" then followed by "error" and the tablet rebooted back to the Interpol screen. Then I tried wipe data/factory reset it seemed to go through it very quickly, no errors displayed and then it either rebooted automatically or I selected reboot I cant remember, but straight back to the Interpol screen.........
Then I thought Odin, Ive used it in the past to flash custom ROMs on my rooted phones...
I downloaded the firmware from sammobiles - P5100XXDNA1_P5100PRODNA1_P5100XXDMG1_HOME.tar.md5
I followed these instructions with odin v3.10
- Run Odin3.exe
- Click on PA button and Select the firmware file.
- Connect your phone to PC via USB cable, And wait until Odin3 detects the phone.
- Click on Start button and wait until the operation done.
All seemed to be going OK, it added it on Com3 and several bits of text appeared saying success
Then Odin came up with fail when it seemed to be abou 90% of the way across, the bar stopped on the tablet and didnt move. Im guessing at this point I should have asked for help
Like a muppet I also closed Odin before I took a screenshot... doh!!!!!!
After a while I disconnected the cable and tried to put it back into download mode but all that comes up on the screen now is "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again"
So I installed Kies and tried recovery mode but it doesnt detect the tablet at all.
Odin can still connect, this time on Com5
I've read about installing TWRP through Odin, is this something I should try or have I just trashed this tablet now?
Thanks for any advice!!
Hello all,
I have flashed ROMs via recovery and Odin plenty of times. I would say I generally know what I am doing and I flash ROMs on the regular. This is my third Samsung device and have been rooting/flashing for almost 3 years, so not a noob. And this is the first time I encounter problem with my phone while flashing ROM.
I was stuck in a bootloop on my Note and it wouldn't even let me boot into recovery, so I decided to Odin and back to stock and try again... I got the one-click, phone recognized, yellow COM box popped up, hit start, walked away for 10-15 minutes. Come back and there has barely been any progress at all... I could barely see the green progress bar. I figured something is wrong because I've done this before and it only takes a minute at most. What I did next is what I think messed me up...I pulled my phone and closed the Odin dialogue box and tried to redo it. Problem is, nothing I could do would get me the Yellow COM box. The phone goes into download mode but Odin doesn't seem to want to recognize it. I've tried EVERYTHING. When I boot the phone normally, I get the Samsung error screen saying there was an issue with a firmware upgrade and I should try Kies. I download Kies and attempt to upgrade firmware but my phone still not recognized. I already tried it to other PC still the same result.
I can't post the pic of my phone.
Is there nothing I can do to restore it?:crying::crying:

You sound like you have a problem similar to what I had.
I was downloading 6.01 to install using KIES 3 and got no recognition from my Windows 7 based computer when I connected up and ran KIES.
I had the Sammy 1.55.5 USB drivers installed.
What I did it was use KIES,not KIES 3.
Samsung says KIES 3 but that turned out to be wrong in my case, although I'm not sure why?
I'm now running M/M and happily gutting the bloat out of it.
It feels better than new now!
Solved
Anyway, I already solved it!
