[GUIDE] Disabling Stock/System Apps - Desire HD Android Development

Hi iv seen loads of people trying to remove stock apps. Due to the eMMC protection the DesireHD/DesireZ/G2 has we are unable to do this at this point. But what we can do is to stop them from running and showing in the app list.
I will use Amazon MP3 as an example :-
1) Find the process name of the APP yor want to disable. You can do this by looking in /system/app for the file name. Or i find this method a lil quicker
From Terminal App or ADB shell type
pm list packages
Click to collapse
and find the process in the list i.e com.amazon.mp3
2) In Terminal App or ADB shell type "pm disable ProcessName" i.e.
pm disable com.amazon.mp3
Click to collapse
3) Reboot phone or just the launcher
4) The app wont/cant run (the icon may stay tho.)
All credit goes to others around the web
[UPDATED 27/10/2010] Icon may not be removed

It just reappears in the list when I do this.

Same here too.

Well, I've used 'pm disable *twitter*' - That should work shouldn't it?
Rebooting now

Could you stop Sense from running this way and just use Launcher Pro?

Stock apps
I would be sooo greatfull to get no sence DHD... Im opened to any sugestions and ideas....

you must remember first to type 'su' to get super user permissions, you will know that you have su permissions when the $ turns to a #.
Hope this helps you all.
Credit to others and not me, I'm just regurgitating info that I have sought out.

Yer the icon wont go when in scense but the app cant run anyway so it cant hog RAM/CPU ect.

More comprehensive guide/explanation here from the G2 thread:

Hi
Can i disable Sense and the whole sense applications?
I cant find sense in the list.
Is com.htc.launcher the sense launcher?
EDIT:
I have disabled com.htc.launcher but sense is still there.

For those who hate bloatware HTC like me, I created this list:
Code:
su
pm disable com.amazon.mp3/com.amazon.mp3.client.activity.LauncherActivity
pm disable com.amazon.mp3
pm disable com.htc.android.Stock
pm disable com.htc.android.htcsetupwizard
pm disable com.htc.friendstream
pm disable com.htc.ereader
pm disable com.htc.laputa
pm disable com.htc.laputa.HtcLaputaInstaller
pm disable com.htc.connectedMedia
pm disable com.htc.Weather
pm disable com.htc.googlereader
pm disable com.htc.htctwitter
pm disable com.htc.android.mail
pm disable com.futuredial
pm disable com.htc.wdm
pm disable com.htc.recommend
Warning! The list is for those who REALLY hate the Sense and HTC applications: it disables apps like Weather, Ebook reader, RSS Feed reader, Locations, etc.
I have not tested the phone thoroughly after disabling these applications, I hope not to have disabled something vital .
If you know any other application that can be disabled safely, let me know and I will add to the list.

What we could really do with is a list of what each of these actually does.
Even better, can no-one make an app, like the SGS had, which you tap on the app name and it removes it (disables) rather than having to go into console?

Might be a dumb question but does this method require rooting?

Read the following thread, its easy to follow....and to answer your question....yes you need temp root.

Cheers.

This is also the only way to get rid of the stock version Soundhound and Quickoffice? I have purchased these 2 apps and if I install these two I will get 2 icons for Soundhound and 2 for Quickoffice. I have tried Launcherpro - because you can disable apps.. but if I disable the standard Soundhound then It will also disable the commercial version. This is also for Quickoffice!
Anyone got some tips for this 'problem'?

Have the same question ! I'm trying to use VISIONary to get temp root but doesn't work ! I'm getting rooting device , please wait message for over 10 minutes now nothing else

Check if debugging mode is checked in setup/applications.

Yes it is checked otherwise you can't even run the app

the last version of titanium backup is able to totally remove system and/or preinstalled apps, like amazonmp3 etc. tried it and it worked for me, after two reboots the app is completely gone!
all of the above "hacks" didn't work for me (although i am temp rooted with visionary and used the "su" command), but titanium backup did the trick!
version: 3.5.7.3
click and hold on the app, choose "force remove app (by recovery exploit)"

[DE-BLOAT] Kindle Fire HD8 6th Gen

This is a WIP, but I wanted to post all the installed stock apps and their locations to help others with de-bloating their devices. Right now, this JUST has the "visable" apps as shown on the app drawer, and currently does not include any of the "share" or "provider" UI apps (like twitter, facebook, etc..I'll get to it).
Disabling/removing these apps might make the system unstable, un-bootable, and might otherwise require you to restore from backup/re-flash. I assume no responsibility for your bricked device.

cool beans...that just saved me a couple hours. Thanks!
* I plan on replacing each amazon app (with some exceptions) with an equivalent (er..better) app..doesn't require amazon sign in, etc, etc...that's the plan anyway. I might keep a a couple amazon apps...we'll see.
I got this thing, believe it or not to read books. I haven't read a good book in about 12-13 years--but I just don't want to be tied to amazon and didn't want to spend the $$ on a "proper" tablet. But after all this, one is pretty much turning a $50-80 tablet into a $150-200 tablet. w00h00!
In case anyone was wondering, the last good set of books I read were Steven King's Dark Tower Series (1-7). Yeah, it's been that long.
Going from all that crap to:
ereader app = fbreader
music player = foobar and poweramp
web browser = chrome, opera
camera = htc gallery & htc camera app *if it will work
video player mxplayer
google play
titanium backup
nova launcher
stock calandar
stock clock
weather app nws/noaa unoffical
gallery: probably stock htc
google maps
keeping stock android contacts:
calculator:realcalc
so now that its been a couple days, did disabling those listed programs have any ill effect? i'd rather just skip the disable step and blast those things off my tablet

well....disabling is safer because you can usually re-enable it(undo) it. Which is good for testing. If you delete something and something goes wrong, you are back to square #1. right now I'm dealing with an issue where I disable a bunch of stuff then I reboot, and my settings screen doesn't load. If I restore from backup, settings still doesn't work. I disabled something I shouldn't have. So I have to flash anew and start over and find out what I did wrong cuz I disabled too much stuff--don't get too greedy like me, hehe. Take it one little bit at a time. But, for the main apps listed above, yes those appear to be safe as also confirmed by other kindle devices/threads which share the same application apk.
* don't disable/remove/rename DeviceSoftwareOTAContracts (this is different from DeviceSoftwareOTA, which of course should be renamed/disabled>. DeviceSoftwareOTAContracts is tied to main settings menu for the device. I learned the hard way, lol.
So far this is what I have disabled and testing for stability. I'm sure there will be corrections.
If anyone here does the same, please advise if any of these disabled causes issues, crashes, or otherwise possesses your device and starts speaking in tongues and if there are those that I have currently skipped/forgot about/whatever, that seem to further trim the fat, PLEASE let this thread know so we can all benefit (or fall victim from, hahah..isn't it fun!?!)

yes, if you compare the lists, I pretty much have them all disabled, except the stock android contacts app. There are also DRM services that amazon runs in the background and lots of other nice things that tell them exactly what you are doing.
For example, did you know that the kindle app, in addition to keeping tabs on what your reading, suggestions, etc..it also keeps track of when you read, how long, and get this..HOW MUCH TIME UNTIL YOU TURN THE PAGE (i.e. how fast you read), what words you look up, all combined and stored in some sql relational database linked up with their ad networks, and god knows what else..no thanks. Nuke it all. (restore what "bricks" it).
* The list @phpbb88 posted would be way to go to start out. That's what I did. I also double checked with other threads/cross-reference those apps and verified they were indeed safe to remove/disable. But there ARE other apps, which seem to be safe to remove. But that's when you start to get into I need that/ No I don't need that, which is different for everyone, and system stability territory.
this is a great thread @smokejumper76

Yes, I knew about that - and from what I understand, it's there for a good reason. There is a somewhat new service offered by Amazon called Kindle Unlimited that helps out lesser-known authors. The authors "publish" their novels into the service, and they get paid based on the number of pages that get read by the subscribers.
Of course, if you are disabling the Kindle app entirely, you won't be penalizing those authors, since you won't be able to read their books.
Another one you can add to the list is
com.amazon.kindle.unifiedSearch
This guy affects the Google search bar at the top of Nova Launcher. I couldn't figure out what services was overlaying it so I went to developer options and enabled "show CPU usage" which also lists the background processes. As soon as I tapped on the search bar this guy ran, disable it and everything is great. This can be helpful if you want to figure out what pesky services might be causing problems.
Also, someone mentioned Nova widgets not working. I used a system/app mover available from F-droid to make Nova a system app and widgets work just fine now.

Yeah, to each their own. I dunno man. I really just don't trust that stuff. With how social media and other technologies being ingrained the way it is. I just refuse to have any kind of social media presence (yes, I have friends, lol) for that very reason. But I am getting old, and the world is a changin'. I mean, employers now expect for you to have a S.M. presence?--give me a break--I value my privacy, lol--they don't need to know I read 50 Shades of Grey (which I wouldn't even if you paid me). But not just S.M.. Even just some regular websites (esp news and commerce), they can literally track your mouse cursor/browsing habits, page scrolling, etc, I won't even talk about the advertising..lol.I just can't accept that for me--so yes I will go to great/not so great lengths to try to stay away from all that crap--but I have issues--so please pardon my paranoia/insanity, hahah. I'm actually not a paranoid person, but when it comes to online/S.M. stuff, different story = 1984.

That search bar is evil. So even after disabling the silk browser. If you keep that search bar and try typing something in to search, wham, some type of evil mini amazon browser loads up..wtf?!?..lol. evil. evil. I thought it was just a widget type thing that works with whatever browser..no..it is its own browser, mwhahaha. very evil indeed.
Well. This sucks. Literally.
I have been monitoring my battery drain on the HD8 after I rooted and debloated it. My current draw is almost 10x higher now.
My old current draw while sleeping was -25 mA to -35 mA. After root / debloat, my current draw is about -208 mA!
I thought debloating would make my battery life better, not worse. I am trying to figure out what may be causing the higher drainage, but most battery apps aren't successful when reading the Amazon devices.

wow. I would check your processes and see what might be drawing cpu cycles. You might need to check the disabled apps, one by one to determine what it is that's causing the drain. I admit, I haven't tested it very much and kept it plugged in most of the time. But, that's why forums like this are so great so we can learn and adjust accordingly. Thanks for the heads up. I might unplug mine and watch the drain. I don't like using automatic brightness and tend to have the brightness closer to 1/3 - 1/4 of the slider bar--not sure if that would do anything.
* Also, if not already set, I would match the disabled apps that @phpbb88 posted and no more for now, that would be safer for testing. I just took a plunge a little further and I'm waiting for the repercussions/consequences , lol.
Yes, I only disabled the apps that @phpbb88 listed. I figured that was the safest route until I was sure that the tablet was still running fine.
I think I will re-enable all of them again, and see if my current draw improves.
well....after 1 week. seems the OTA has remained dead so I turned off opendns. I feel like a kid running around the house naked. Hopefully, no updates tonight.

Cool. Please keep us posted. I am very curious.
* With battery @ 100% I set display to stay on for 30 min and unplugged the USB
It's been about 45 min, and I'm still @ 100%. Granted, the tablet is just sitting there with the screen on not doing anything. Maybe I'll play a movie and let it go and see how much drain then. I'll keep it sitting, re-turning on the screen now and then to see how much it does down. I have some battary app. monitor running too, so we'll see what it says. I'll just put little updates on this exact post here with little *'s of the updated times and my battery percentage if I'm still awake/remember to do it.
*70 min 99-100%
* been about 2 hours @ 98% battery. battery app says 96%.

I used a system/app mover available from F-droid to make Nova a system app and widgets work just fine now.

disabling the kindle.unifiedSeach makes my search bar don't work?
when I tap on it, nothing happened.
@chemie99 you might want to check it for the widget part. I used Link2SD to convert nova as a system app and now the widgets work!
Crud.
I re-enabled all the "safe" apps again, except for firelauncher. While my current drain has improved a little bit, it is still WAY too much. My drain now ranges from -100 mA to -168 mA (WiFi disabled). Where my tablet used to need charging once every two to three weeks, now I will need to charge it every two to three days. This will result in much faster battery wear.
A little nervous that this is a v5.3.1.1 vs. v5.3.1.0 thing. I don't know if I can go back to v5.3.1.0.

[GUIDE] Remove all bloatware from your Fire HD 10 (2017)

I've been doing a bit of tinkering and troubleshooting in order to see if the Google ecosystem can play well with the Amazon ecosystem.
This guide is based on some of the advice given on this thread, but I've customized it specifically for those Fire HD (2017) owners that do want to debloat their tablets while preserving their Alexa Hands Free, Kindle, Prime Music/Video and Shopping apps.
You can either choose to disable the following packages with Titanium Backup (it's my preferable method) or through ADB if you're already familiar with the Android Debug Bridge.
I didn't include the pm uninstall command in this guide because it's easier to restore disabled apps in comparison to restoring uninstalled apps. I feel that it's a big risk to uninstall packages and don't want to be held liable for any mistakes that you've done. You can, however, refer to the directions provided at this link if you do want to fully uninstall packages.
Requirements:
Root (This easy guide shows you how to root your 7th generation Fire HD)
Fire OS 5.6.0.0
Fire HD (2017)
ADB (Optional, this 'Lite' package is officially provided by Google)
Basic knowledge of ADB commands
Downloads:
Titanium Backup (optional, but makes the work less tedious)
Nova Launcher (optional, if you intend to replace the default launcher)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ADB Commands to Disable Packages (APKs):
Code:
adb shell
$ su
# pm disable <name of package>
Example:
Code:
#pm disable com.amazon.photos
ADB Commands to Enable Packages (APKs):
Code:
adb shell
$ su
# pm enable <name of package>
Example:
Code:
#pm enable com.amazon.photos
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Step 1: Install Nova Launcher: (Optional, only if you plan to remove the default Amazon launcher)
Use this guide to inject Nova Launcher into the /system partition
When Nova Launcher becomes a system app you're able to add widgets and access Google Now by swiping right on the screen
Step 2: Disable any of the packages deemed safe in this Google Sheet via ADB or Titanium Backup:
Open this Google Sheet
Contributions to this sheet are appreciated
Step 3: Clear Cache:
Code:
adb shell
$ su
# rm -r /data/dalvik-cache
# rm -r /cache/dalvik-cache
# reboot

you list the 3 packages that have "metrics" in the name. I saw that on an old guide and uninstalled one of them. The thing bootlooped. I could get into an ADB shell with SU and I reinstalled that metrics package and it miraculously started working again. maybe that's the difference between uninstalling and disabling, or maybe it's because I still want some amazon apps to work, like alexa, prime video, shopping, amazon app store.
I've personally disabled all of the packages that say 'metrics' in them and can safely say that I haven't experienced any issues. Alexa also works with the list which I provided. I facepalm because forgot to add that to the subject line of this post. Alexa is pretty damn useful.

Great, thank you for sharing. I was just about to do sth similar, because i also want to keep using Alexa.
Speaking of which, I see some packages in your list which I'd expect to possibly pose problems with Alexa if disabled or uninstalled, like weather, calculator or calendar.
Also some, like device.crashmanager, sound like they maybe shouldn't be removed.
Maybe just disabling them keeps some important ressources in place that would otherwise be deleted?
At least mistermojorizin's experience suggests an important difference between disabling and uninstalling.
You raise some good points. I'm very new to the Fire HD line (I personally own a Huawei Mediapad M3 and a OnePlus 3T) and had to root them in order to add in the Google Play ecosystem. And I wanted to make their tablets as close to vanilla as possible so my parents, that both have ZTE ZMax Blade phones, wouldn't have to adjust to the Fire OS interface. I consider you all to be more knowledgeable than I am with this line so please feel free to correct me if I've made some mistakes on this thread.
With regards to device.crashmanager, it's been suggested by some other Fire "debloat" threads that it's okay to be disabled. Below are the sources that I've used to come up with my list. I'll leave it to the community to look at the links and decide whether the packages are alright or not to be disabled. This thread is a living document which I'll fix whenever problems are pointed out.
I'm going to experiment with what mistermojorizin's said right now and see if all metrics can be disabled without causing bootloops.

Weird. I tried to uninstall three metrics packages a week ago and got into trouble. Wondering how you did it.
Hi guys, first of all thanks for the detailed thread
This is the more specific thread I have found for the fire HD8 7th generation but apologies if this isn't the right place for my question. I have been a while reading about the tablet, it's version, software and the possibilities for it.
I can see in all the threads the required version is FireOS 5.6.0.0 but I upgraded to FireOS 5.6.0.1 So I am not sure if my version is compatible with all the procedures here...
I thought the FireOS included was complete enough to use normal apps like Youtube, GMail, use chromecast, etc... So at this point I am disappointed and willing to install a different ROM. Is there any custom ROMs available? I haven't found anything
Thanks in advance
Hey @manuten,
I haven't updated my first batch of Fire HD's to 5.6.0.1 yet. Was this 5.6.0.1 a must have update? Were you able to get a glimpse of the changelog by any chance? I just got another Fire HD in my hands and will be debloating it soon. If you could wait a bit I'll have some updates on the Google Sheet soon. For anyone who has recently installed 5.6.0.1 could you please update my Google Sheet with new bloatware if the update came with it?
Thank you all!

So I have been searching for the changelog. I can see some release notes but they only say: "General improvements and performance enhancements" The also have a link for more information but that redirects to the 5.6.0.0 Release Notes. So there is not much information there, sorry.
Let me know if there any more information I can provide
Topic should say Fire HD 10 (2017), as the linked root method is only for the HD10 and does not work on the HD8.
So is there any word on if this is all kosher with 5.6.0.1

Jesus Christ, that made my life a lot easier- thanks!
Hi, bit of a noob question here but I've not seen it answered yet reading around these threads: On a rooted HD 10 (7th, OS 5.6.0.0) can we uninstall amazon apps and then install them from Google Play and use them without registering the whole device? I want to stay unregistered but still sign into individual Amazon apps such as Video. I followed the process on this thread (very clear, thanks OP!) using Amazon Music as a test - using uninstall rather than disable - reinstalled from Google Play and still got prompted to register device. Any advice?
I disabled a handful of apps listed here after installing an alternate launcher.
I tried changing the wallpaper after that, but there is no app or handler to do so.
What is the app/service that handles that?

I use Nova Launcher and I am able to switch wallpapers with that. If your lock screen is still enabled, though, and you want to change it, I believe you need to use Amazon Photos

Thanks that helped. The wallpaper change even stays if you decide to use a different launcher. I am trying out the rootless Pixel launcher and it's working well.
I do have another problem though. Alexa seems to be missing from my device. I made sure not to disable any apps/services that are required for Alexa according to the Google Docs sheet posted in OP. The Alexa app still exists on the device but there is no option to enable it to disable it in Settings under Device Options. According to some guides on the net it should be in Device Options right above Date & Time but it's missing.

All these comments are for 5.6.0.1:
If your device looks like mine, it should currently have two rows of four under Device Options:
[Wireless Network] [Airplane Mode] [Blue Shade] [Do Not Disturb]
[Bluetooth] [Help] [Auto-Rotate] [Camera]
If so, then you need to enable Alexa in the Fire's Settings app. It's on the left-hand side, fourth item down under "Device" (the top option).
Tapping that should replace the [Camera] in Device Options with [Alexa Hands-Free]. (Once you enable Alexa under Device, there will also be a toggle for Alexa Hands-Free under that menu.)
And if you've already done that . . . I'm at a loss.

Anyone able to uninstall Facebook..?

Not buying a new $900 Unlocked smartphone only to have Facebook locked into the OS of my new smartphone. If HTC wants to improve sales numbers and get more people to buy their smartphones they should not perinstall crap on there that that end users can not uninstall. Disable feature is BS. Those that want Facebook can download app on their own from App Store. Forcing things upon ends users means people will not buy your smartphones. HTC should sell some clean cut Google smartphones with stock OS on them with no other BS preinstalled

Root it in 60 seconds easy as pie and delete the facebook apk (and anything else you dont want)
Please, do not lie.
ROOT is not needed to uninstall ANY app on HTC.
For instance I hate that ugly disgusting thing popping up at the bottom of the screen after making screenshot - within 3 seconds I uninstalled it:
adb shell
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.htc.screencapture
Basically in 15 minutes using GOOGLE to change the package name at the end of command - I uninstalled 50 of pre installed system and non-system bloats (including 3 facebooks) ..

Could you upload a screenshot of the option to uninstall Facebook from new HTC U12+ ? To the best of my knowledge only a DISABLE feature is available which is completely useless if you care about privacy.

I didn't lie. My method does work. I never said root was required to delete apps, I simply provided my method. The method you posted is another way without root.

That just essentially removes the ability for that user to see it Or the system to load it in the background. The APK is still on the phone. Either way it's a viable solution that stops the app from running.
Facebook apps are bloated down with bad useless coding.
Uninstall doesn't help. After a reboot it's loaded again!... Had the same problem on my HTC 7. can't remember what i did to COMPLETELY remove it.

No, this will not really uninstall apps in /system partition
disable the facebook app AND the support apps, as those are the ones found to have been spying even if you disabled the main accounts.

Not having it in OS would be good either way. I see that supposedly it was Facebook who decided to pull it.
Mod edit: Quoted post removed.
Sorry but I am neither a bot/troll account nor am I peddling anything for any party. I speak for myself and the products I own myself. At the end of the day any preinstalled and apps that can not be uninstalled is bad for end users who purchase smartphones. Those that want certain apps can download them themselves. We don't need anything forced down our throats to use.

Problem Uninstalling System Launcher by ADB

Hi guys I just got my reno ace and shockingly found out that I cant set a third party launcher as default
I tried to use the adb to remove the system launcher following instruction from other threads but I failed. Below is what I put in and what I got.
255|OP4A89:/ $ pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.oppo.launcher
Failure [DELETE_FAILED_INTERNAL_ERROR]
Can anyone help me out plz:crying::crying::crying: Many thanks
P.S. I did successfully remove one of the system app but it just doesnt work the same way when it comes to the launcher
I got the same issue when trying to uninstall any apps :"""(
I can't remove stock launcher either and nobody seems to have an answer.
You can't uninstall certain apps sadly like App Market
I get the same message, I thought I was doing it wrong.
Me too
Hopefully some will come up with a fix, I'm trying to figure out how to remove that breeno feed, it's all on Chinese, I wouldn't have minded so much if it was in English. Also got this weird issue with the linked in app being Chinese as well even though i installed it from the play store.

Still works for the ones you do, but it will go faster.

com.samsung.android.voc is the package
It's really not something you need a spreadsheet to find out.

You don't need to be a developer. There is no code involved in the above instructions.
Install "Package Disabler Pro" on your Smartphone.
This app list the real name of the app.
Example:
Vodafone Appbox = package:com.aura.oobe.samsung.gl
Delete it with adb:
start with developer options, then you have to do:
"adb shell"
"pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.aura.oobe.samsung.gl"
An other example:
Samsung Free = package:com.samsung.android.app.spage
"pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.samsung.android.app.spage"
Astalavista baby
The first time I saw this topic (that is, easy-debloat without using a rooted version of Android) was from this article, which is a bit out of date but explains the basic premise:
https://www.xda-developers.com/disable-system-app-bloatware-android/
If you're not familiar with the Google program "adb" this may be helpful too:
https://www.xda-developers.com/install-adb-windows-macos-linux/
And even some documentation from the authors of the ADB command:
https://developer.android.com/studio/command-line/adb/
As you know, many pre-installed applications can be removed via Settings→Apps, as you'd expect. If removal is prevented then try using Google's Android Device Bridge command (running on a PC or Mac; I use Linux) using the adb command.
You're right to be concerned about what applications are related to a package disabled or uninstalled by any of these methods. An application may have prerequisites or corequisites. As always, use care making changes like this!
ExampleImagine you prefer Google's Contacts application, rather than Samsung's. As best I can tell, on Android 12, the Samsung Contacts application cannot be uninstalled or disabled by a novice user via Settings-->Apps. But what might happen if you could successfully remove Samsung's Contacts application? I tried this scenario and here's what I found: Samsung's Contacts application appears to be required for Settings-->Safety and emergency-->Medical info.
How did I test this? Well, it's possible to force a disable Samsung Contacts using a command similar to:
adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.samsung.android.app.contactsPackage com.samsung.android.app.contacts new state: disabled-user
If you now try to navigate to Settings-->Safety and emergency-->Medical info, you'll get a pop-up message saying something like:
Unable to open Contacts. Tap SETTINGS,go to App info > Permissions, then allowthe following permissions and try again:Contacts
This is why I think Samsung’s Contacts is a prerequisite for some services. Services which do need Samsung’s Contacts application’s services will notify you with a pop-up message, like the one above. (And no, installing Google’s Contacts application doesn’t help.)
In any case, if you're unhappy, you can easily undo what you've done so far with this command:
adb shell pm enable com.samsung.android.app.contactsPackage com.samsung.android.app.contacts new state: enabled
Your phone should be none the worse for trying this example. But for fun, let's continue the scenario, Samsung Contacts can be uninstalled rather than merely disabled:
adb shell pm uninstall --user 0 com.samsung.android.app.contactsSuccess
However now it’s not possible to even navigate to Settings-->Safety and emergency-->Medical info. The item remains under the Safety and emergency settings, but it is not grayed out (a common way to know you can’t tap on an item), and clicking it doesn't work (no error message). So I think Samsung's Contacts application is a hard prereq for Medical info. ("Hard", as in "There's no way around it.") What's more, the Emergency contacts (also under the Safety and emergency entry in Settings) item doesn't work. So more than one feature isn't working.
If you change your mind you can reinstall the package:
adb shell pm install-existing com.samsung.android.app.contactsPackage com.samsung.android.app.contacts installed for user: 0
After a reinstall I'm pretty sure your phone is again working well. End of example.
I'm not an expert on this topic. And I don't mean to start a new discussion about this topic on this thread. I thought you'd like an answer to your question, with what I hope are specific examples and links. There's another (one of many, actually) active discussion, which mentions certain corequisite and prerequisite packages, by name, and why you might want to keep some. See:
[ADB] [NO-ROOT] Samsung Optimization Guide - A Better Experience
PS: At the end of my playing around I decided to keep Samsung's Contacts application, and hide it as best I can by using a feature in Nova Launcher Prime. Why? It was important for me to have my phone able to display medical info (allergies).

Like many here, I remove bloatware the easy way, when I can. If not then I use Nova Launcher to simply hide the rest from the application drawer. Out of sight, out of mind, as they say. ;-)
