Samsung Galaxy S2 Specs (2GHz) - General Topics

Source: http://www.redmondpie.com/samsung-galaxy-s2-specs-will-blow-your-brains-out/
The current generation of smartphones – with their 1GHz processors and 512MB of RAM – are already very impressive at what they can do. But rumored specifications (along with a photo) are spreading of the next generation of Samsung’s Galaxy S smartphone – the Galaxy S2 – and its specs will. freaking. blow. your. head. off.

It is supposedly scheduled for release sometime in early 2011 and will supposedly have the following specifications:
-A 2GHz Processor. Possibly the next-generation version of Samsung’s Hummingbird CPU.
-1GB RAM along with 4GB of ROM. This is, as with the CPU, twice the magnitude of current-gen hardware.
-32GB built-in flash memory. MicroSD card slot expandable to 32GB making the Galaxy S2 able to hold 64GB of data.
-8 megapixel camera with full HD (1920×1080) video recording. Current-gen smartphones record video at 720p (1280×720).
-A 4.3” 1280×720 Super AMOLED display
-GPS, Bluetooth 3.0, b/g/n Wi-Fi, accelerometer, gyroscope, proximity / ambient light sensors.
-Run on Android 3.0 “Gingerbread”
While all these specifications are well and sweet, I really, honestly believe smartphone manufacturers, especially of the Android variety, should focus on increasing battery life by optimizing hardware + software instead of just blindly increasing clock speeds and doubling RAM. My HTC Desire still doesn’t last more than 15-16 hours whereas Taimur’s iPhone 4 blows past the 24 hour category without even going below 50%.
And yes, these specs are rumored. But if HTC and Motorola’s intentions of releasing 2GHz smartphones are anything to go by, they aren’t unbelievable.

What do you guys think the battery quality will be?

Hm unless Samsung has re-invented the battery for cell phones I seriously doubt this would have any type of usable battery life. I think those specs are too "wish list" to be believable.
But if they really do make that much of a leap in such a short time power to them, I just don't see anything like that happening.

Sorry, can this thread be deleted. I didn't see a Vibrant's "General" section 'till after.

Screw the 4.3" screen. Too big. 4" is perfect.
And these specs are fake.
It's just a made up rumor utilized to get people to visit their pathetic thing they call a 'website' filled with countless ads to make money out of people.

Boringggg. Don't people get bored of spreading these same exact rumors into the world every single time again?

Sounds great but those are some pretty bold rumors. That's a pocket sized computer lol

Battery life would last okay (i think) if it only uses the 2ghz when needed and when the screen is switched off bring it down to 400mhz You never know, it could last

that would be cool but i doubt that anything like that is gonna come out anytime soon.

It sounds like its unreal specs but hey we can dream for now anyway
sent from a evo 4g stock Rom for now anyway

Didn't Samsung said this is 5X faster than the Hummingbird?

Great, now just take those specs and throw in a 1400mah battery and it should be good for a solid 10 hours.
I agree with others in this post: the Android phone manufacturers should look a little more closely at battery life on their phones rather than turning the market into a **** waving contest. My G2 is at 29% after 37 hours right now, and it's a reminder of the reason why I bought it over the Vibrant.

Not impossible:
Processor could be the orion
http://venturebeat.com/2010/09/07/samsungs-new-orion-processor-brings-dual-core-power-to-phones/
Gingerbread I don't think that it will but it could
http://www.phonedog.com/2010/10/21/samsung-prepping-a-gingerbread-powered-google-experience-device/
Then the other specs look real
Or you could get a
http://synapse-phones.com/order.php
Just without dualcore

Just in case anyone didn't want to try and pause the reflection of Galaxy s2 in the promo video.

Now that gives me a phone-boner. Too bad the whole thing would probably have that terrible plasticky feeling that the other Galaxy S phones have had.

Since when Android 3.0 is Gingerbread? These specs are clearly bull**** and rumors.
ITT: people confusing Gingerbread with Honeycomb

i doubt it will have such specs you would need a nuclear power plant to power that thing even for a galaxy Tab 2 is pretty doubtful as specs...
More likely it will be a dual core cpu @ 1ghz with a ram in between 512mb-1gb and a screen resolution of about 540p or so a Samoled2 screen and probably a 16gb-32gb internal storage + sd slot

My mistake, I quit android at froyo and a friend pointed that out. I shall insult the android nerd that got that wrong.
Oh, he informed me that it was because it says 3.0

galaxy s2 what?
I work for t-mobile and I have not heard specs like that. I wish. Its gonna be awsome but if it was that good it would cost too much right now probably. Probably come with a bj though.

The sexiest Android tablet ever, the Samsung Galaxy Tab is official now – pics are out, as well as official video. And the spec sheet, is mind-blowing!
Samsung P1000 Galaxy Tab is a sleek big-sized Android phone! It’s expected to be released in this month itself. GSMArena got hands-on pics. It got 7 inch TFT capacitive touchscreen display, capable of displaying 16 million colours, with multi-touch functionality. Galaxy Tab would come with 16GB and 32GB internal storage, with 512MB RAM. It also got microSD card slot, having extra memory up to 32GB. The combination of ARM Cortex A8 1GHz processor and the well-optimized Android 2.2 (Froyo) operating system, would be somewhat appreciable.

Fring on Galaxy Tab.
Are there prices yet or we are still in the blue about it? I would also prefer if it came with linux (easier to run windows applications on it via wine)

And guess what? Fring works "fringing awesome" on Galaxy Tab.
It wont be the iPad killer unless it gets marketed as such. I even seen music videos with the artist using iPads. I wonder how much Apple pays them to do that? "Heres a free iPad and 50 bucks to have you show it off in your music video" sheesh.
Hands on with it.http://www.androidcentral.com/samsung-galaxy-tab-hands-video
Shame they didn't put at least even and OLED screen on there.
Might have to get one of these badboys! Very sexy indeed.
This will fail pretty badly.
It is not because of Android, it is not because of the hardware.
But the PRICE!
http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/02/samsung-galaxy-tab-reported-to-retail-at-699-and-799-in-europe/
700 - 800 euro???
INSANE!
iPad will be better option in this price with larger screen, doubled internal memory size and better battery.
Good God, Samsung just cannot do business.

It still wouldn't be able to run wine if it had Linux on it.
I don't know a 1GHZ single core processor for a next gen table? I was at least hoping for 1.6 dual core.

Is it that expensive? No way of it being in any way successful. The iPad is a far better choice IMHO.
lol this just pretty much killed it. Apple could sell stuff for 600+ euros and someone would probably still buy because of the brand name but Samsung, some not-so-well-known brand name comes and attempts to sell an "ipad killer". If it had great specs and a decent price, it would definitely live up to its name but this is just disappointing

Agreed. I've long been a Tablet PC owner (HP TC1100) and the iPad is an absolutely killer machine compared to all the other tablets I've ever used. Of course, it's not a Win / x86 machine, but, for my needs (Web browsing, reading / searching in books, playing back videos) it's WAY better than anything else I've ever tested. And, on top of that, it has a GREAT battery life.

We've gotten a few peeks at Qualcomm's next-gen Snapdragon chips, codenamed Krait, but now we've got a proper roadmap, including time frames for release, model numbers, and even details about the memory channels. Glancing at the slide above doesn't reveal anything terribly surprising -- the dual-core 8960 (LTE), 8270 (HSPA), and 8260A (HSPA+) will all be shipping to manufacturers later this quarter, in speeds ranging from 1.5GHz to 1.7GHz and come packing the latest Adreno 225 GPU. In Q3 of next year Qualcomm's 28nm tech will trickle down from the high-end to mid-range phones, just ahead of the launch of those quad-core, 2GHz mobile monsters the company teased back in February. Check out the full PDF presentation at the source for more nitty-gritty details."

Seriously though, for me,no software keyboard on a tablet can compare to the physical keyboard of my PC/Laptop.With the phones it goes otherwise.I don't like these QWERTYs with their tiny keys.
Tablet + USB/Bluetooth keyboard and mouse and who needs a laptop?
I will soon became mental and hospitalized, my budget can't keep up with all this new technology..
Road maps rarely stick and you are looking for at least a two quarter difference between when it ships and when it actually shows up in phones.
Battery life truly is a big issue though. I would think it would get to a point where they would not create these more powerful processors because of the ridiculous lack of battery technology over the years. Why would you continue to develop something battery hungry for a product that at some point would negate the effectiveness of it due to the bulk added from a larger battery.
I just got an Atrix though, and i'm wondering why it was easy for them to pack a 1750 battery in a still very thin package with a dual core processor. Same with the Infuse as it is even thinner.
Quad core is already supposed to be out later this year. Qualcomm will be far behind.
Meanwhile their overclocked @1.8 cpus are doing what a stock tegra 2 does. lol
Nvidia say that they will initially be used in tablets which will hit the shops this summer, and the first quad processor phones should be in the shops in time for Christmas. They say there new quad core chips will consume less power then current dual core chips in mobile devices.
My upgrade isn't until April 2012 can't wait to see my next phone.
hopefully the batteries will evolve along with the cpus
I like how Android phones are following the routes of computers, only much faster.
Dual Core phones are still just getting popular-ish and half of the things Android uses runs perfectly off a single core.
I'm predicting that by December of 2012, (no we're not gonna die)
Single Core phones will only remain in the real low budget area or prepaid phones.
Dual Core will be our mid range.
Quad Core will be our high range.

I'm actually quite tempted.
I'm one of those oddballs who doesn't mind large devices, and that being the case its mostly positives from where I'm sitting (obviously will be too large for many to use as their day-to-day phone!).
that 7,7 Tab sure is nice but i just bought a GT10 some weeks ago so i wont be able to afford it
Maybe i can sell my tab and sgs2 and use this lol
Iam wondering how the Phone function will be implemented in the tab

all i've seen is a couple videos, i believe this is true:
dual 1.4 or 1.5Ghz
5.3 or 5.5 samold (Super HD) screen
stylus (wwoooohooooo !)
8MP rear cam
1.4MP front facing cam
2600Mah battery (wooooohoooooooooo!)
gsm and/or lte
it is a little big for a phone, a little small for a tab... but i think it is going to make some huge waves in the market. possibilities with a size like that are awesome.
things to hope for:
DLNA
hdmi-out
1Gb internal memory
microsd
dual sims
noise cancelling mics
GOOD GPS
awesome antenna
awesome battery life
i'm really looking forward to a long lasting device in STOCK FORM without a huge battery hanging off the back. we'll see if this comes through or not. i will be buying as soon as the early adopters confirm the bugs are minimal and livable. hope !
good job samsung

LTE and HSDPA
16/32 Gbyte versions
8 Mpixel rear / 2 Mpixel front cam

Seems like this is more of a Tablet than a Phone, which kind of defeats the purpose IMHO (if it's actually released like that)

While the Galaxy Note is an unusual size, it packs a strong set of features. As for whether it leans more toward being a phone or a tablet, it seems to favor tablet.
"I'll call it a tablet because it will not be supported for cellular voice," Chris Hazelton, research director for mobile and wireless at the 451 Group, told TechNewsWorld.
"It does support IP communications such as VoIP and Skype," he said. "It has a very good camera, a great processor, and a great screen. But it's hard not to compare it to Dell's (Nasdaq: DELL) 5-inch tablet, which has not gained much traction in the market."

[Discussion] Looks like Pantech is moving to the big leagues with the Pantech Magnus

Pantech Magnus

Known mostly for budget-friendly phones with not very hot tech specs in the U.S., Pantech might be looking to upgrade its playing league. We haven’t yet heard anything clear about the recently teased Flex, but the Vega S5, Star Q 4G LTE and Marauder looked like much more than the modest gadgets we’ve been used to see from Pantech.
Now a new Pantech-made phone has been leaked, and, although it’s not exactly a contender for the Galaxy S3 or HTC One X, it might come with high-end-ish specs. The Magnus (which is Latin for “great”) seems to be on its way to AT&T and might enjoy a release by the end of September.
First spotted getting FCC approval at the beginning of August under the P9090 codename, the Magnus now stars in a leaked pic that can only mean one thing. Someone is trying to build hype around the handheld, so a launch is imminent.
The photo doesn’t reveal much about the “Great”, aside from the featuring of an 8MP rear-facing camera with flash and the inclusion of a front-facing webcam (most likely a 1.3MP one). Still, we can easily tell that the phone will be running ICS out of the box or maybe even Jelly Bean, having some juicy on-screen navigation buttons.
A few other tech specs have been rumored before, including the featuring of a dual-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm MSM8960 Snapdragon S4 processor, an Adreno 225 GPU, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of on-board memory and a 720p HD display. The screen will probably measure around 4.3 inches in diagonal, although it could go up to 4.5.
As for the design, this is actually quite intriguing. The front is not very original or unusual, looking kind of bland even, but the back is a whole different story. There are not only sexy curves there, but also quirky bumps, which makes this look a bit like HTC’s Incredibles. This is clearly one love or hate design point, and, while some will find it innovative, cool and special, others will most likely call it ugly or tacky. I for one kind of like it, because, even if it’s not the absolute most elegant phone ever, it’s not ordinary either.
We of course know nothing about the Magnus’ price or exact release date, but as soon as we’ll find out something we’ll let you know. For now, tell us if you’re at least intrigued about the phone’s design and rumored spec sheet.

I think this is a great phone in todays market even including LTE capability, if price would be around usd. 250,-

I would like to use it in Europe (Netherlands), so where to buy ?
Anyone...

1601 points? Fastest phone in the world?
Step aside.
It does look like the iphone 5 will be the fastest smartphone (not going by the graph there but just the tech. of the chipset, seems to be just like krait dual core but better). That android benchmark graph looks a bit of as well with regards to the nexus 7 etc. and the one S.......and it is only one test as well and the source isn't exactly the best.......
Wait till anandtech or/and gsmarena get a full set of benchmarks up and they can be trusted.

The HTC one XL/S are the fastest android devices and are faster than the nexus 7.
1601 points?
Lol yup, been completely reworked the graph to show the iphone 5 as being the best, what a surprise.........
Galaxy S3 benchmark scores;

Again though, only one benchmark test, wait for more (better/accurate ones).
Wait for the LG Optimus G... The quad core Krait will most likely best the iPhone as well based on preliminary benchmark results.

ill stick with the one S. plus apples go bad really quickly lol
Are there any games that htc one s can't play smoothly? Something like dead trigger?
All hype, no substance.
Sorry my english is not perfect does hype means every thing without any lag?
Does one s have any bugs? Ever had any problems with it? Is one s better than xperia s? Any problems with pentile screen?
I love my One S. No issues except for the fact that I really hate Sense and hence I wipe it all out and flash CM10 nightlies. And yes, the One S outperforms the Xperia thanks to the Adreno 225 (Xperia S has the 220) and MSM8260A
How can I check the version of my cpu s3 or s4. Where does htc sell snapdragon s4 version and where doesn't?

hype:
Excessive publicity and the ensuing commotion
2. Exaggerated or extravagant claims made especially in advertising or promotional material: "It is pure hype, a gigantic PR job" (Saturday Review).
3. An advertising or promotional ploy: "Some restaurant owners in town are cooking up a $75,000 hype to promote New York as 'Restaurant City, U.S.A.'" (New York).
4. Something deliberately misleading; a deception: "[He] says that there isn't any energy crisis at all, that it's all a hype, to maintain outrageous profits for the oil companies" (Joel Oppenheimer).
tr.v. hyped, hyp·ing, hypes
To publicize or promote, especially by extravagant, inflated, or misleading claims: hyped the new book by sending its author on a promotional tour.

All games I have tried play smoothly on it.
Have dead trigger installed and settings to max and the game runs smoothly.

Better than xperia S except for the screen in terms of res. i.e. sharpness and real screen estate.
Only bugs are:
- signal issues in areas with poor coverage (supposedly fixed in latest update)
- majority of black models has chipping issues (fixed with a newer designed model, has smoother edges and a bevelled USB port)
My only complaints with the S are:
- crap notification LED
- poor support from HTC so far
Other people have problem with these:
- pentile screen (IMO only noticeable on certain icons and when really concentrating on the edges of icons/text)
- limited storage (10GB for videos, photos etc. and 2.21GB for apps)
Here is anandtech's view on the screen:

So it has 14gb for use right? So if I understand you, you said that I can only install 2gigs of games and don't have the possibility to instaal 7gb or 5gb of games?
Wait to release of the iPhone 5 and after few months new android devices will be released new alternatives etc.

Yes, you have just over 14GB for use.
You can install those games like NOVA etc. and iirc the actual base files are stored on the larger 10GB partition, you can also move apps etc. over to the larger 10GB partition etc. via settings>apps>app you want to move
If you plan on installing all the big games like dead space, nova, GTA etc. then don't get the one S, get the GS 3 or GS 2 as they both have 16GB internal storage and a SD slot.
But I can replace games to 10gig partition so I think it enough space for shadow gun and few other games. I have 16gigs at the moment in my old xperia x8, 14gb for use and still have 5gigs free and I have a lot of ps1 games etc.
Sgs3 and s2 are ugly in my opinion.
One s is much faster then s2 and is comparable with s3
Being that the iphone 5 is several months newer than one s, one x, gs3, nexus 7,etc., wouldn't you expect it to be faster? And when the next round of android devices comes out in a few months, they will all be faster, too.
If the iphone 5 is not one of the fastest devices on the market when it comes out, that would be a pretty weak effort on apple's behalf!
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Cross-platform benchmarks are highly inaccurate. These scores mean nothing really, we'll never know how good the A6 chip is unless android is ported over to the iPhone 5.
