You'll want to wipe everything: factory reset, data, cache. dalvik cache, battery - everything your Recovery allows.
Then flash just nfinites stock rom w/o additional kernels as its already OC'd / UV'd, and see what's what. If you're using Firerats custom MTD that could be an issue as well unless you resize it for the ROM ur flashing...

What version of ClockworkMod are you using, and how exactly are you trying to flash the kernel? Are you wiping Dalvik before you flash it?
I wrote in your other post to use older recovery 3.0.2.5 always flash everything in recovery, and always wipe cache and divlik before you flash anything just good practice.

Hi guys, I'm using the CM9 ICS with my transformer and I was trying to install a different kernels without any success at all. I've booted into CWM (V5) and installed from sd card but when I restart the machine, It's always with the same kernel. Can someone suggest how to make it work?
How long does the install take? That should give some insight onto what it is doing

Just to be sure, CWM v5 will not read external uSD card, only the internal storage /sdcard. May I know the kernel you are installing?
It takes about a minute to install.
I've tried a few:
TesteyMeh ICS 0.7
Blades
Others...
All of them seem to install fine but when rebooting I see the same kernel version and I cant OC.
have u tried wiping the cache and dalvik before flashing them?

A minute is way too long. Kernels only take like 3 seconds cuz they are small.
Try mount /system under mounts and storage before flashing the kernel.

Flashing a new kernel takes a few seconds. After reboot please pay attention to the blue indicator below the Android figure. It this not appears something went wrong with the first stage of the flashing process, invalid image/zip file etc.
Please use the customized CWM version, just not the flashed one from the Rom manager. I'v good experiences with the R2 (internal sdcard only) as well with the R1 (external micro-sdcard only). I preferred the R1 version.
Btw I'v have the best experiences with my TF101G with the CM9 build of March 29 combined with the quevor-test8 (just NOT from the guevor thread but ONLY from the thread of Richard because it's compiled for CM9) kernel, no reboots and no deep sleeps anymore while 3G and Wifi is working fine. Please do not wipe or clear something before flashing the new kernel to prevent Wifi problems. And I'v the best experiences not using the reboot system now from CWM but using power down and switch on the TF manually.

i too have been having trouble getting kernels to allow overclocking...i flash one, all looks ok but when i get to tablettop the kernel info appears unchanged and setcpu wont clock past 1000.
could you maybe please post links to the rom and kernel you used? im having trouble locating the Richards R1 and R2 versions. i would like to see if i can repeat your success w/ these versions.
much appreciated.
I have same issue except worse yesterday. I'm on latest CM9. I tried to flash guevro test 9 and I did wipe both cache. Using roach 2 recovery. Just stayed on Asus screen. Blue bar did pop up and take a second or so but nothing. Checked md5 and all was good.
I had to totally flash ROM again after a full wipe because even a restore from recovery wouldn't go past very first Asus screen. I'm not sure what happened but I'm definitely now worried about trying a new kernel again

Yap, I have the same problem. Nandroid restore did not restore to the previous state. For me, re-flash the ROM fixed the problem (no full-wipe).
Try Using clockwork recovery
I have just flashed guevor kernel as well with no problems. I'm using clockwork mod recovery. Have you tried it?
So I have Eagleblood 2.3.3, 1.0.9 and looking to switch to this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1124522
Im not sure but i think this is the latest Eagleblood Rom out....correct me if im wrong.
1) So can I just flash this new Rom like any other or do i need to do some other stuff to the phone first?
2) If you guys recommend switching, which kernel should i get and how do you install a kernel?
Right now im just running EB1.0.9 with no extra kernel. Im not familiar with kernels.
2) How and when do I flash a Kernel? Before, after, or while you are flashing a Rom?
3) Do you wipe anything when installing a kernel?

ya caught me in a good mood this morning... heres what you do:
1) yes, but you will want to do a full wipe to avoid lagging and force-closing of apps after the install.
2) there are only 3 kernels for this device Faux123's, Morfic's (my personal favorite) and Harsh's just read the first posts and some of the latiest comments to get an idea of what does and does not work in each (or just flash em all, theres only 3)
you flash kernels the same way you flash a rom, just wipe cache after you flash it, and if you want to go back to no kernel, just re-flash your ROM and it will replace the kernel with the stock one
3)just cache.
good luck! and if you have some time, read This it explains all of this and more but better than me.

Are you saying there are only 3 Kernels for the G2X in general or only 3 kernels for eagleblood roms?
And did you mean wipe cache "before" you flash a kernel?

only 3 kernels total faux morfic and harsh and thats all of em.
they faux and morfic's have a few different versions, but if you read the posts and threads you can see the differences between them
and no, you wipe cache after you flash the rom/kernel

But hasn't it always been to clear cache and then install a custom rom? Its like in the direction of every rom?

Just wanted to point out that harsh's kernel is designed for ICS. Best not to try to install it on a GB based rom.

its honestly not that big of a deal for cache, you wipe data before, and ideally you wipe cache after (just in case the flash puts something retarded in there)
either way your fine really
Iv'e flashed every kernel i could find and used all different settings when installing but my phone stays on the HTC logo for about 3-4 minutes before starting up, even when rebooted 2-3 times its still the same iv'e tried wiping and installing rom again without flashing kernel an boot time is about 60 seconds so it must be the kernel messing up my device.anyone else have this problem?

yea it does.as i see you are S-OFF so you do not need to flash the boot.img manually but give it a try to see if it works.if it is not then from recovery do format all partition(except sd card)and flash the rom again.best wishes

it does, but since you are s-off you can just reflash the revolutionary/ jupuntobear hboots to have fastboot enabled ect
okay iv'e done all that installed RUU wiped everything etc install rom and installed kernel and still takes the same amount of time to start up so wiped again and left it with the kernel that came with the rom and it starts up much faster not sure why no kernel works properly with this rom. I have a problem - my sensation won't boot up with any rom, it freezes on white screen with HTC letters....|
How it has happened : I have installed Hyper Nonsense rom, phone was working. Then i downloaded sultan kernel for ics/jb aosp, and some addon package added to the rom's thread. i have installed sultan kernel, then addons and tried to boot up without success. So i wiped data, cache+dalvik, installed back ARHD 6.8.0 and it does not boot up. Please, help if You can ;p

Hyper nonsense is sense base. You installed the wrong kernel for it. Try the sense base sultan kernel. Not the aosp sultan kernel
Try this version of sultan, it's sense base

You can try using a different recovery like TWRP. Back when I was S-ON and using 4ext, I got a lot of problems because 4ext was really glitchy (the problem you're experiencing is one of the problems I got with 4ext). Anyway, the way to fix this is to get the boot.img file from the hypernonsense ROM .zip file, reboot your phone to the bootloader, select fastboot, plug your phone into your computer, and flash the boot.img file using fastboot. Instructions in further detail on how to do this can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1752270
If you have any questions on what to do then feel free to ask.
Sultan
PS: My AOSP kernel boots on Sense based ROMs but not everything works correctly or well (ex: USB doesn't work). Also, the problem you're having is not the kernel's fault.
Great thanks! I believed it is the end... I've got last question. Why performance gov is not recommended? Are there better settings to make my phone not miss a single UI animation frame ? ;p

Mainly because performance burns a lot of power and produces a lot of heat. I'll remove the "not recommended" flag from it in the next release. A good governor for a smooth UI is Lagfree.
