Im on a local Hawaii 3g provider.
I'm running 2.1 and I'm rooted. I did a NAN. Backup and flashed vanilla with Google to my hero... rom installed fine and everything but i have NO MMS OR SMS period..neither with handcent nor android messenger app. I also have no avn settings in network options to put my carrier info in..
So is vanilla froyo 2.2 basically broken for me? Again i am NOT on sprint i bought my phone for $350 new and i pay $60 a month for un limited everything ...
Rom looks great and is super fast on my hero but i must have mms and SMS, looks like i might have to flash back to my backup aka 2.1

Did you flash a different radio
No
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
Nah, I have had that problem before. Best thing you can do is to flash another rom. Specifically one for a regular and similar provider to yours.
ONE THING:
Did you back up your oem 2.1 before flashing another rom? If you did, nandroid back to it, and then type ##3282#. Type view mode and write down EVERYTHING you see! Now if you want to stay with 2.1 stock then go ahead. If not, flash another rom besides CM6(or whatever you flashed) and if it's not AOSP, then simply do the ##3282# in the rom of choice and put in all the info you wrote down. Then you should be finished.
AOSP does not include options to change mms settings but it's possible you just have to find the right xml file, decompile it, edit, then push it back to the rom. I have been meaning to do this myself because I am also not on sprint but have the same issue on AOSP.
HOPE THIS HELPS!

here ya go..
APN settings are for MMS... nand back to stock, and go onto the market and download APN backup and restore, then backup the APN with it to SD card, then nand back to your rom of choice and download APN backup and restore and restore it and walla MMS. as far as SMS goes, did you load a PRL from your specific carrier to the phone? If not, then use the stock rom and do ##PRL# and load a carrier specific PRL for your carrier to get SMS..
as far as the password is concerned install alogcat from the market and...
Go to your dialer and enter ##DATA# or ##3282# which will bring up the EPST menu
Once the menu pops up just select "View Mode"
At this point you will see a screen with 3 selections.
From here either press and hold the Home Key and select aLogcat if you ran it before, go to your tray and run Logcat.
After opening Logcat it will update, once it finishes press "Menu" and "Pause" the log.
Then scroll until you see a group of entries labeled "I/EpstBroadcastReciever" which should be green
Locate the line that has "MSL Code=" at the end of it
works most of the time.
and one last note, all of these are to be done in a 2.1 ROM...

I know this post is kind of random, but I used the rom for a bit, and then reverted back to my stock rooted GB rom. Would like to spend more time with this rom, and see it it would suit me on a day to day basis.
I had mc7 before i think it was the 89 build but i had to go over to simple mobile, and then my data was cut out and after i did everything to set it up i had to change to bionix2 now i like bionix2 but the dev is not working on that rom anymore and that makes me sick!!!! so i need something that works and its ongoing development lol (if its not getting better why badder) thats just the way i think.
so now i need a new rom that works with simple mobile, and please post only if you are %100 sure about the answer

uh.. for those of you having issues with simple mobile... I have tried tons of roms on my phone. Not because of this issue, but because I wanted to play. However, my data sporadically works and MMS NEVER does in my location. After 7 hours on hold with simple mobile, I was able to get someone to give me alternative APN settings that worked ONLY in my neoghborhood. I had to switch to other ones when I left town. However, those settings they gave me dont work anymore... There isn't a ROM or a reset or flash that would fix this as I have the same result with a g-1, an HTC Desire HD, and a motorola Atrix. When I leave town, it works fine.. when I'm home, forget it... This tells me that it is something bigger than my phone or choice of software causing this problem... This is also why I am going back to t-mobile.
Is anyone making any progress on this issue? Any OTA based ROMs work perfectly. Any ROMs based on CM7 refuse to activate mobile data.
They also are unable to read the mobile number or the VM service center number from the SIM card. I think the two are related.

Did you set your apn and enable it? I'm sure you did but need to ask.
Yes, the APN is set (green dot) and mobile data is enabled. I've tried setting and then unsetting airplane mode to try to get mobile data going.
I've also tried getril to make sure the ril and baseband match. I've also dropped Stk.apk from the OTA rom into /system/app on CM7 to no effect.
This is both in the release version and 174 nightly.
I'm on T-Mobile and data works, but it's definitely not as stable as the factory based roms. I always thought it had something to do with not being able to read the sim card information too.
Data on CBW
Hi,
I had a similar problem. You have to both put in the correct APNs (search online - CBW support center gives out most of the values)
But you also need to go into *#*#4636#*#* (4635 spells 'info'). Select the phone information button and scroll down to "SMSC". You'll have to search online to see what the correct value is (it doesn't display it otherwise I would just read it off for you). Search for a website that gives it in hex values. Input that hex value and restart your phone. That should fix both data and SMS if I am not mistaken.
Hope that helps
Okay so here's the SMSC from my working ROM:
002B00310035003100330032003400300030003100340030
Going to give it a shot.

I run stock GB 2.3.3. rooted and I get data on all carriers in Thailand. I get 3/4G with TOT3G and Edge with AIS, DTAC and True.
You should have no problem getting data by simply entering the correct apn. Also on Cincinnati Bell bell you should be getting 3G+ data.
Maybe I didn't say it clearly enough. I get working data including 4g on any ROM based on the 2.3.3 OTA. Weapon, rooted OTA, debloated, etc. I only fail to get data on ROMs based on CM7.
And yes, the APN information is right. I've even tried making a new APN entry with the settings that work on OTA ROMs.
It's like the radio isn't working right in CM7.

so i conclude that it is whatever we are not doing

I have an answer, or at least a work-around. Can't claim credit for it, read it on the Cyanogenmod forums.
In the apn settings, fill in EVERYTHING. Even PAP/CHAP. Save. Then go back and clear out the ones that should be empty. Save again. It will start working.
There must be an APN field that doesn't start null in the CM7 base, that T-Mobile uses that CinBell doesn't. That would explain why T-Mobile users never experienced this issue.
I've narrowed it down some more. Authentication type needs explicitly set to none. I'm submitting a change request to CyanogenMod.

I had the same problem. This is what ive found out. I dont know why ICS has this problem, but try this:
After installing the Rom, go to your APN settings. You should see a T-mobile apn. Click on it to edit it. Now all you have to do is
1) Erase whatever is in the "apn" column and type in "simple".
2) Under the "mmsc" column, leave whatever is there, but add "smpl." right between the "http://" and the "mms".
So it should read http://smpl.mms. whatever else is typed there.
Let me know if this helps. By the way, this should be the only thing you change/add/remove. And also dont put the quotation marks in.
Tried that also I had the mt4g with ics installed worked with no problem but with the LG g2x it gives the same problem when I try to download a mms pic it disconnects then gives me unable to download mms so I had to flash cm7 on to my phone and now everything is working I want ics back on my phone I really like it but until this issue is re-adressed I will have to stick to cm7. I hope the developers read about this problem

Hi everybody,
We all know that ICS has made it a bit difficult to edit your APN(s). We also know that some of us have been having issues getting MMS to work when we install ICS on our Epics.
Luckily after a lot of research and a little tinkering I found a great fix that worked right away. I took the APN Settings from an Epic Touch 4g.
1. Within you Epic open your Voice Dialer App.
2. When prompted say "Open APNs".
3. Another pop up will appear, tap on the OPEN APNs message that pops up.
4. The next screen will show one single APN called Sprint tap on it.
5. On the next screen you will see the list of settings for the specific APN. Below are the list of settings that finally got my MMS working.
a. Username: Sprint
b. MMS Proxy: 68.28.31.7
c. MMS Port: 80
**ALL OTHER SETTINGS STAY THE SAME**
6. Once completed tap the menu button and tap save.
7. Reboot for good luck.
Steps 1-3 will also work for Epic owners trying to edit APN settings to use on another carrier.
Hope the info helps!

I believe it only applies to 3G since the APLs are only used as network identifiers by mobile devices.

The first three steps were from another post i found through a Google search (Dont ask, i unfortunately dont remember). Once i found out how to access the APL in ICS it was just of matter of finding the APL info for another Sprint phone (in this case a Galaxy II) and entering that info in my Epic's APL.
this was one of the main reasons i installed TPR, may have to switch back to ICS, if this fixes the MMS issues!
Very interesting. Now I need to receive an mms to test.
One thing I noticed was after following all steps, a lot of other information was populated in the Sprint settings when I went back to look.

Wanted to give out a BIG thanks for this fix
I installed CM9, RC1, and had issues sending MMS. Was unsure if it was the towers in San Diego, as I was just visiting,or the phone, but as I has some extra time, I went so far as to do a full wipe and reload of CM9 RC1. Still, over several days, was unable to get a MMS to send 9 out of 10 times, no matter what I tried, while plain text messages went right away.
I rebooted my phone, tried sending a MMS, and it stuck on sending. Gave it 15-20, and even rebooted. Still stuck at sending. I deleted the message, made this fix, rebooted, and tried to send a MMS again, and the MMS sent right away
huge thanks for this! works like magic.

I too can confirm that this works to solve the MMS issues on WIFI. However, be careful; when I rebooted after applying the fix, my phone tried resending all of my past MMS messages. It really bogged my phone down, and I had to delete them in order to stop it from happening.
