No mobile data CM7 G2x using Cincinnati Bell - T-Mobile LG G2x

Is anyone making any progress on this issue? Any OTA based ROMs work perfectly. Any ROMs based on CM7 refuse to activate mobile data.
They also are unable to read the mobile number or the VM service center number from the SIM card. I think the two are related.

Did you set your apn and enable it? I'm sure you did but need to ask.

Yes, the APN is set (green dot) and mobile data is enabled. I've tried setting and then unsetting airplane mode to try to get mobile data going.
I've also tried getril to make sure the ril and baseband match. I've also dropped Stk.apk from the OTA rom into /system/app on CM7 to no effect.
This is both in the release version and 174 nightly.

I'm on T-Mobile and data works, but it's definitely not as stable as the factory based roms. I always thought it had something to do with not being able to read the sim card information too.

Data on CBW
Hi,
I had a similar problem. You have to both put in the correct APNs (search online - CBW support center gives out most of the values)
But you also need to go into *#*#4636#*#* (4635 spells 'info'). Select the phone information button and scroll down to "SMSC". You'll have to search online to see what the correct value is (it doesn't display it otherwise I would just read it off for you). Search for a website that gives it in hex values. Input that hex value and restart your phone. That should fix both data and SMS if I am not mistaken.
Hope that helps

Okay so here's the SMSC from my working ROM:
002B00310035003100330032003400300030003100340030
Going to give it a shot.

Putting in the SMSC didn't seem to make a difference. I'm going to experiment more tonight.

Does anyone who has data working on another carrier, can you post your radio firmware version?

I've been trying to input my smsc as well. In with wind but I find it weird that both me and you have the same smsc number. So I think that nag be partially our issue.

I pulled that SMSC number from the OTA T-Mobile ROM. With working data and SMS on cinbell. I have a feeling that it doesn't mean what we think it means.

I run stock GB 2.3.3. rooted and I get data on all carriers in Thailand. I get 3/4G with TOT3G and Edge with AIS, DTAC and True.
You should have no problem getting data by simply entering the correct apn. Also on Cincinnati Bell bell you should be getting 3G+ data.

Maybe I didn't say it clearly enough. I get working data including 4g on any ROM based on the 2.3.3 OTA. Weapon, rooted OTA, debloated, etc. I only fail to get data on ROMs based on CM7.
And yes, the APN information is right. I've even tried making a new APN entry with the settings that work on OTA ROMs.
It's like the radio isn't working right in CM7.

Maybe try a different ril. You can use getril app

well i am new to this and i have the same issue, i first tried to install cm7 172 and had no signal what so ever but i could connect to wifi, so then i started over and used cm7 182 and still no signal, soo, then i reflashed gingerbread 2.3.4 rooted, still no signal, so then i called tmobile and asked them if everything on their side looked right and they said it did.
so i conclude that it is whatever we are not doing
that being said i hope some one can tell us what to do cause afterwards ill make a tutorial for those of us who go thread to thread looking for answears

I've tried that RIL matches.
I'm seriously wondering if it's the radio baseband. I've got the July 2011 tmobile version. V21E RIL matches.

I have an answer, or at least a work-around. Can't claim credit for it, read it on the Cyanogenmod forums.
In the apn settings, fill in EVERYTHING. Even PAP/CHAP. Save. Then go back and clear out the ones that should be empty. Save again. It will start working.
There must be an APN field that doesn't start null in the CM7 base, that T-Mobile uses that CinBell doesn't. That would explain why T-Mobile users never experienced this issue.

I've narrowed it down some more. Authentication type needs explicitly set to none. I'm submitting a change request to CyanogenMod.

Thank you for posting this Terry, this got data working on my newly rooted g2x on cincinnati bell with the MIUI 1.25.11 ROM. However my MMS settings must be screwed up as I'm still unable to send MMS messages. I'll keep tooling with it, but for now data is as it should be. Thanks again.

It now works.
It have to be fixed, as I'm using the latest nightly (20130301) and it's still a bug, and this is the latest available CM version for p999.

I have been having problems with my mms since I first received my Nexus. MMS take 3 days to send and downloading mms gets stuck at downloading and never opens. I did some research and from what I understand it has something to do with your APN settings, try searching for the correct APN settings for your area and provider. APN settings can be found in ---> SETTINGS>WIRELESS&NETWORKS>MOBILE NETWORKS>
ACCESS POINT NAMES
** I have yet to fix my MMS issues, if you find something I would love to know

Yea, I don't know if re-flashing the ROM would be of any use. Some people argue that MMS only work if you have a data plan with your provider, but I've read otherwise as well. I've also heard of Nexus users getting more up-to-date sim cards and that fixed their issues, maybe worth a try? You might want to give your provider a call and ask them for the correct APN settings or at least explain your problem to them and see if they offer any assistance.

[q] d2g/roms/gsm

Hey Everyone,
Can anyone who has been using a D2G on a GSM network, I am on Rogers in Canada myself, provide some feedback on which ROM's they have tried aside from stock blur rom, that has worked properly with GSM?
I know CM7 doesn't work worth **** on GSM and the MIUI ICS that is out has mixed GSM reviews.
So if anyone has any ideas or positive results I would love to hear about it.
Otherwise, it will be time to say bye bye to the D2G
Froyo-based CM7 was perfectly stable on GSM.
Gingerbread-based, I don't dare touch it. I know MIUI works, but there are quirks.
I tried CM7 Gingerbread. It worked well for calls but i could not get it to accept an APN so I couldn't get data except on Wi-Fi. after a couple of days I gave up and ran into the Miui ICS build. I've been using it for a couple of weeks and I'm quite happy with it. I did have to install third party app to get it to accept an APN at first (it kept FCing from the Android settings menu) but after that it's all been perfect.
What cell carrier network are you using? GSM ? Rogers? What was the apn fixer app called. Thanks.

SMSC nr + data connection

hey guys,
after updating my nexus s to ICS recently, i developed an issue with the radio, not connecting to a data connection. after some research, i found a diffrent radio which might fix everything.
It didnt, it made everything worse. i cant send any sms's anymore from my nexus s, and still cant data connect. i've been researching since than, and found i should re-enter the smsc code in *#*#4636#*#*. i've searched my smsc code which appearantly was +32486000005, after converting this to PDU, i got 07912384060000F5 as final code which i should enter. after entering it in my nexus S, it gives an 'update error'. I've no idea what i should do now to fix both the data connection and the smsing.
Thanks in advance
What service provider are you using? What rom and kernel? What radio? More details makes things easier when trying to help you. I had a similar issue on my Nexus S. I'm at work now but when I get home I will flash my phone over to the same from, kernel, and radio you're running and see what's going on.

Hey atrix, thanks for the reply.
I got Mobile vikings (belguim)
Rom is currently the official ICS, but the same issue occured with GS, gingerbread CM7 and kangy's
Kernel =3.0.8-gb55e9ac
i used matrix's and SG's aswell, all failed.
radio is kli, tried with kb3, and a few others
Alrighty. Thanks for the background info. Ill load up in a bit here and get to testing. It may just be a bad combo of kernel/rom/radio.

I did a little digging myself quick while the from and stuff download. Slow internet here lol you run an mvno from Base there in Belgium. So you'll require the 850mHz band for GSM connection and wcdma 2100 band for your 3G. Now what were gonna have you do first is dial *#*#4363#*#* and let me know what it says right above radio. I'm going to start checking basebands to make sure they're 100% compatible with your MVNO.

One piece of advice too. BACKUP YOUR EFS PARTITION!!! Ill see if I can dig up the thread and link it for you. It contains your IMEI AND SERIAL NUMBER and all that good stuff. You ever corrupt, lose, or erase that partition and you'll never get it back. That partition is unique to each individual handset.

Anyone who knows where to find this?

Noob, need help with data issues

So recently seemingly randomly, my rocket tries to say I have lte when I should only have 4g. I live near DC, but not close enough for lte. So when I try to send a text, it often fails and needs me to resend it. For someone who sends 25k a month, this is ridiculous. I'm not sure if the whole device is breaking or if the lte and texting issues are related. Help??

Change to gsm/hspa only in mobile networks, then it will disable the LTE radio, problem solved
When I go to mobile network settings, I don't see any options to be able to change it to either of those options. There's not much of anything that I can even change there. Is my version /build different from yours?

I had the same problem. This is what ive found out. I dont know why ICS has this problem, but try this:
After installing the Rom, go to your APN settings. You should see a T-mobile apn. Click on it to edit it. Now all you have to do is
1) Erase whatever is in the "apn" column and type in "simple".
2) Under the "mmsc" column, leave whatever is there, but add "smpl." right between the "http://" and the "mms".
So it should read http://smpl.mms. whatever else is typed there.
Let me know if this helps. By the way, this should be the only thing you change/add/remove. And also dont put the quotation marks in.
Tried that also I had the mt4g with ics installed worked with no problem but with the LG g2x it gives the same problem when I try to download a mms pic it disconnects then gives me unable to download mms so I had to flash cm7 on to my phone and now everything is working I want ics back on my phone I really like it but until this issue is re-adressed I will have to stick to cm7. I hope the developers read about this problem
