The HTC music player doesn't DL album art automatically. Is there a better featured music player? And recommendations for a video player.
Thanks.

I'm a HUGE fan of MixZing. It has an Album Art option and is well worth the paid version. As for Videos, I have used RockPlayer in the past. It works well and has good codec support.

i agree completely, used to be a huge fan of mixzing until i found player pro, it has all the same features plus gives you lock screen controls as well as several widget options to fit your screen's needs
Does anybody still use the cubed music app? I loved it. It downloads the album artwork, too.

Just bought playerpro, its fantastic and replaced MusicMod for me. For videos i use RockPlayer since its simple and allows me to watch .AVIs without having to convert them to .mp4 files first.

PlayerPro is the ishnish.
I love Meridian Media Player. there is a free and paid version. It plays all of my videos and music, let's you create playlists, downloads album art, shows lyrics if embedded, and works flawlessly.
Just downloaded Music Player and the beta of Winamp, but it seems neither of those read our internal storage so they are worthless to me.

FYI - the new powerAMP trial can see internal storage right out of the gates! Good work, developers!

I like CorePlayer the most because of its very low CPU usage. However, there are a lot of other, great alternatives: iPlay, Pocket Player etc. Please read all my multimedia-related articles if you want to get a full picture of what each of these apps is capable of.
Give MortPlayer a shot
Install MortScript and play with Mortplayer.
Easy basic player not going nuts if you have gigs of music on your SD whith nice sound profiles (in case you don't use WOW-HD sound enhancement.
Thanks for the great info, it'll take some time to read up on all these and make a decision which one to try out first.............

S2U??? its crap.... ir could be great just because of how touch friendly it is but seriously i cant stand a media player without a good library and preferably a good playlist function....
unfortunately wmp kicks all other programs when it comes to library and playlist, just holding something and select add to playlist is so great, no other i have found can do that, but wmp stops playing music after phone calls
currently i use MortPlayer just because its "library" is good and it has the changer function so i keeps playing beyond the album i start listening too

Stock music player hands down.

Use MIUI music player, it has wide features such as text playback with a timeline and shake-to-play-next function included.
I'll second Winamp I always loved them and I had always
used it on my computer.
+100 for winamp
best player I ever had on pc and now on my good old samsung captivate running ICS dark night ROM
Amp is great
can anyone recommend a good music player for the x10? Not a big fan of mediascape as it doesn't play many formats.

Btunes. Looks like a copy of the iPhone music player, but it's actually very good with lots of settings.
but it doesnt support a wide range of formats, more specifically the aac format.
Is there something like the VLC player for android?
I like the look of bTunes, but it sometimes messes uop album art. Not showing correct artwork for the song!
I found realplayer to be able to support the widest range of formats including aac.
i still like Zimly
Does anyone know if any players support FLAC? So far I have tried meridian, AndLess, AMplayer isn't compatible (2.1 only). Has anyone tried FLAC on btunes? Its too bad theres no trial.
Is there any player that can display Lyrics that are embedded in MPe tags like iPhone does when u touch album art while listening to the track? It kinda displays very neatly on a transparent pop-up page which you can scroll. Of course, it should display that only when lyrics are embedded in the MP3 tag and not search for them online.

Meridian plays flac files.. but u have to add them manually, Play by folder doesn’t play the flacfiles.
so you don't have flac ID3tag and flac file in Music tab. It does not show AlbumArt when playing flacfiles.
andLess plays flac also andLess on AndroLib haven't tried it though.
If you can live without FLAC or wait til we can have it native as in CyanogenMod, MortPlayer AndroLib is relly good, my number one music player
I love the cube player '3' pretty hard to find in the market so search on 'Filipe Abrantes' he made the app. Its a beautiful app!

That player is indeed impressive visually. But it's lacking in functionality right now, but it's a beta so I'm sure it'll improve with time.
I use Astro Player Beta, very good, great sound and also has an EQ which makes a difference
What are the best media playing apps, of any variety and quickly why? If there is not one that does this well, list individual ones for music and video.
I am compiling a list of the best apps of each category, so leave your opinion and a quick reason to help out the community.
If the app costs $, be sure to say so!
edit: oops double post, please merge with http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=945642 if mod sees.
Best music player in my opinion is MIUI Music
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=854766
Very nice UI, downloads album artwork and song lyrics (with option to only download when connected to wifi)
Lyrics are highlighted in sync with the song.
The app is free.
For hardware video playback, mVideoplayer is great. Subtitle and automatic subtitle downloading, gesture support, loads of other features. Is free with ads, I think, but I have those blocked so I can't say for certain. For software video playback... Rockplayer, plays most files perfectly. Costs money though. There's also moboplayer which is free, it's in beta and kinda buggy though, but looks promising and plays most of my normally unsupported files well. Also it's not on the market.
As for music I like doubletwist, it's free and has a nice, clean GUI.
Vital Player
It's free, open almost all format, and is on the same level of Rock Player...
Bump!

I go between doubletwist, zimly, MIUI, and everything else. For videos I usually go with rockplayer, mvideoplayer, or the default music app.

Which music player is the best?
I got Winamp and I really see no difference between Stock and Winamp. Stock actually looks nicer in my opinion.
I have been suggested Player Pro, but it's not free.
Any suggestions?
Also a big thing for me is the ALBUM ART. Both Winamp and stock have LOW quality album art. My pictures are HD quality all the same size, yet they have blur and low quality. Very annoying!
Google music is good

PlayerPro or TTPod
Try the PlayerPro trial, it's a very good player.
I also like TTPod which includes lyrics display too.
For lyrics compatible with most players, try MusicXmatch.
AudioTagger is great for ID tagging and album art downloading.

The best thing about Winamp is that it could replace your lock screen, allowing you to control the music without unlocking, I have tried several and always come back to winamp
+1 for Winamp.
sent from Lord ZED's Autobot
For the lock screen function, +1 to winamp.
I usually just remote desktop and stream from my computer though to access my huge database of music. (Gotta waste that unlimited data plan Somehow!)
Poweramp
Full graphic EQ with presets. Fully customizable plaer engine and Skins. With lockscreens
Poweramp was the best i tried.
EQ, themes, widget + easy to control
And MixZing is good as well but it hasn't got good interface.
Hi. My not sure if this is the best place to post my question..so sorry in advance
I'm on mikrunny w/anthrax both support beats audio and it works with sense stock music player but not google player... Is there other free music players available that supports beats and be able to download my music from google?
Thanks

Ok so I tried the Poweramp Trial.
It DOES have the high quality album art which matters to me. You can change the size of the album art as well.
The interface is ok, I still think stock music player has the nicest interface. The colours though are the best. the widget matches nice with my background.
The volume on it is higher than stock and equal with Winamp.
So maybe I will buy this one, but try the others first.
The lyrics don't matter to me. Mainly just looks, organization, and album art.

If you pay WInamp it has Full EQ too, easy to use, u can sync it with your desktop via streaming, Full album art, kinda workig shuffle, I've been using Winamp in my desktop since '98 so I completely trust winamp
Yes maybe the stock one looks better and use less resources, but In custom roms, i dont know why, everytime I pair it with bluetooth with my car, the phone just freezes, so I need to use a different one, so Winamp is my move
My favorite has been Google Music w/Volume+ as my equalizer.
I can't remember if you have to be rooted for Volume+ (it's been a minute since I've played with it), but it's a full featured EQ that you can set the phone speaker and headphone EQs separately. I also have all my music uploaded to Google Music so it takes up no space, works just fine and I get a full featured equalizer.
Pro tip, you can get Volume+ for free if you go to the developer's website (accessible in the Android Market). I bought it though, it really is quite good.
I use Poweramp its verry good cause you cabn choose different style of sound like bass, classic ext. But it paid.
I heard that Neutron Music Player is the best up to now. It supports lossless songs, and sound quality is great if used along with DSP Manager. You can search for reviews on Youtube.
However, that's what I heard. It seems that Neutron MP does not support my Gio. What a shame.

Does anyone have the apk for it that has been tested to work with 4.4? And with apollo player having flac playback, is it native? Or is it like google play music in which it just down samples it to 320kbps upon playing?

Download any cyanogenmod build for any xHDPI device and extract the apk from system/app inside the ZIP for it.
Then remove the zip because it is obsolete.

Sure thing! h ttps://f-droid.org/
For those that have it, have you tested flacs on it? Do they play natively with no down sampling? This is my biggest concern; there just doesn't seem to be any elegant solution for playing flacs right now. Poweramp and winamp are clunky and heavy to say the least, and andLess is so bare bones and lacks a lot of features compared to Apollo.

Thanks for directing my towards Shuttle. It has all I was looking for in a music player. I encourage everybody to try it.
It handles 4.4.1 without a problem on my Nexus 5. Widget background colour and transparency are customisable, buttons can be dark or light to fit your wallpaper. There are themes and lots of settings. Even though free version is all I need I'm going to buy Shuttle+ as a token of my appreciation to developers hard work.
