Here's my first attempt at tweaking an APK, so be gentle on me...
Here's the LG Optimus Launcher from the Optimus Z dump from this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=769138
I've fixed the force close on pressing the home key, the next project is to redirect the volume keys to something else than trying to open other programs. I would prefer to refer them to vol control (obviously) but am looking into it. From what I was always reading in other uploads of this launcher, the home key was always the most annoying.
Please feel free to try it out and let me know how it goes. And as always with all other apps, any force closes are always appreciated if you can pass a logcat my way with the bug.
Again, this is a Work In Progress but now the FC with the volume keys are fixed. Changelog below.
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=CJIXFIBL
Change log:
0.1
Fixed Home key force close
0.2
Fixed Vol Keys FC.
Still working on:Working on fixing uninstall program in drawer menu. (Works on Captivate on 2.2.1 roms.)
Waiting for Fc fix..keep up working man
I'm on a CM6 nightly, does the home key at least work for you? That was that main reason I posted it is because I had it working with that. Volume keys though is tonight's project.
K. Good news. I think I've found what I need to change the program requests to volume change requests. Now to implement them.
Thanks for fixing the Home FC that and the indicator dots were killing me. Here's a version w/ the dots removed.
Keep up the good work.
Updated...
Thanks again bedwa
Updated apks in first thread with fixed vol buttons!

you can set it as a home replacement, so a launcher....or you can just use it as a normal app
if you set as a launcher then it will have it's own app drawer

I noticed that when trying it out. It was quite disheartening since I REALLY love the app and enjoy being able to modify which items are where on the screen layout, but without an app drawer, it's kinda.... useless.
Update: Looks like Beta 2 has been released, and app drawer functionality has made it's way back in.
Horray for the updated features as well as being able to use it as my launcher replacement!
I'm not sure if this is a bug, so I might file it as a feature request on the bug reporting page - Pressing the "Home" button on an HTC EVO doesn't bring you back to the main launcher page, instead leaves you either in an app drawer view, or in a settings menu. To get back to the launcher, you need to press the "Back" button several times.

I also find this frustrating, but overall the launcher is excellent.
I do suffer with FC's at times which just seem to not stop, but I'm overlooking these while in beta stage.

I've posted a bug report about the home button and got a response. Hopefully they end up getting a fix out for it relatively soon.
I think some of the FC's you might be getting are from the Android version you're running. You have a Sony X10? Aren't you running 1.6? I'll have to look further, but I think that the app is compatible with Eclair or above currently.
Great home replacement app! I do have some pet peeves though:
- As others have said, you cannot return to your old homescreen even when pressing the Home key several times. It would be nice for it to revert to a previous home launcher (e.g. ADW, Launcherpro) unless prompted again.
- Is it possible to make use of K9 Mail instead of GMail for the email client? A plugin of some sort would be mighty fine.
Other than that, this might be my next favorite app for Android.

If you enter the App Drawer and press Menu -> Home Settings -> Home Switching -> Toggle "Switch Homes"
I think this is what you are referring to? This should allow you to use the Home button to toggle between SS and your main launcher.

Fixes "Home" button while using SS as primary launcher. I <3 the devs of this app, they REALLY listen!

I'm hoping someone would remap Rosie for the Z ports since none of the existing mods are compatible. Would like to see a phone-drawer-browser setup so I can then resize and theme for a GB style rosie.
Bump.
Anyone??
gmichaelow has figured out how to remap the right rosie button in his Uber rom, but I dont know if he is able to change up the app tray button and phone button. And the last time I used Uber, and re-mapped my right button to messaging, you dont have the option of changing the symbol. It changes itself to a "circle" symbol.
He may have figured out all the above by now, I am not sure.

He actually grabbed that from 1wingedangel over in desire Z forums. I was following that thread since he was the only one making any rosie mods for the Z, but he was unable to swap phone and app buttons and gave up basically. I was hoping one of the devs that have experience with this mod could lend a hand. I tried doing it myself, but I don't know Dalvik bytecode or how to learn it so I gave up....for now lol.

I was hoping the same, app button on the left drives me nuts!
Yea, no luck switching them. As far as I know, nobody has been able to do it with the new sense. The old versions, it was just a matter of xml edits in the layout. That won't seem to take at all, just force closes. I tried changes in the smali code, and it works to switch them, but is buggy. There is actually a logic to what the bug is, but I was unable to find a way around it.
After too many hours spent, I sat back and realized that it wasn't worth the work for something that really does nothing! Maybe someone else will think it worth the time though..
Edit: For those looking to change the images. You want to replace the personalize_on.png and personalize_rest.png in both the landscape and portrait folders. No need to decompile or resign. Just replace and push.
I guess I'm obsessing over it a little too much. I can still make do with a normal setup and just switch the right button to browser then resize and theme. Thanks for all the effort you put into it though, its greatly appreciated nice job on the rosie setup you created too.
After reading a thread on here before about this is (which i cannot find again) I decided to get to work to make this work, and after a little bit of poking about i managed to get it to work!
The app is now on the market! either search for "xperia play camera" or you use this link https://market.android.com/details?id=seb.camera.mod&feature=search_result.
The instructions are now obsolete but im keeping them there for completeness.
Installation Insturctions
1. Backup the original camera application with a root application manager e.g. titanium backup
2. Then delete the original camera app
3. Reboot your phone
4. Install the .apk from below
If you have a previous version installed you do not need to delete the old one or reboot just install as you would any other app
Version history
v5 - fixed remaining issues this is the final version as of time of writing please report any issues.
v4 - fixed video mode and added non root version
v3 - pictures now taken on release of R1 and menu position fixed
v2 - Decreased menu size by about 40% and fixed minor graphical glitches with menus
v1 - Original release, has VERY large menus
Hope you guys like it!

Currently the shutter button on the screen remains highlighted until you tap the screen, not a big issue but its one I didn't have time to resolve, maybe later.
To install the app (.apk attached) you need to remove the one that came with the phone and then install this one, I would recommend backing up the original first too.

Works like a charm ! thanks
Now going to update the original post with v2 that fixes the graphical glitches with the on screen hud. The pop-up menus have been decreased in size but still remain larger than the insanely small ones the original menu had. This version can be installed over the top of v1 like a normal app with no fuss.
good job !!
but how can i move libs to system files?
Great app! Works like a charm. Thanks for the great work.
My suggestion: I don't know what everyone thinks about this, but would it be possible to make it so that the app only focuses pressing down but doesn't take the actual photo until you release your finger (it would kind of mirror the shutter button on the screen).
Some advantages that would come from this would be being able to focus and then reframe, as well as timing shots better.
Thx bud works so much better now...I really disliked touching the screen to take pic.

Good work on the app mate, looking forward to a v3
Regards Dousan...
Good job but a few issues...
1. Is it me or so images taken this way seem to be blurrier than when taken with the stock camera app?
2. Why is there a gap between the menu bar, and the portion with the shutter button and the camera mode selector?
3. It seems to me that the menu, when clicked on it, seems as if the options are very blurry?
Nhialor
Also, remove the on screen shutter button.

This is the official thread for the "Change Shoulder Buttons" app.
Compatibility:
At this point it looks like the app fully works for some devices, partially works for others, and not at all for some. Different ROMS may also affect functionality.
I am currently working on a "configuration" option which will allow users to calibrate the app for their specific device.
Update
This app has been updated.
No more restart required.
2.3
1. App is now free!
This app is now free!
Link:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.hatcyl.android.Change_Shoulder_Buttons
Description:
This app will allow you to use the shoulder buttons (L and R) of the Xperia Play for different functions.
You can use them to:
None: Stops the service. Shoulder buttons will stay at default.
Media: L will be previous and R will be next for media.
Camera: R will be focus and take picture.
Volume: L will be volume up and R will be volume down.
Up/Down: L will be up and R will be down.
Navigate: L will be browser back and R will be browser forward.
Advanced:
Tasker Support! (Kinda)
To change button modes do the following:
Action -> Misc -> Action Intent
Action: "com.hatcyl.android.Change_Shoulder_Buttons.ACTION_CHANGE_MODE"
Extra: "Mode:XXXXX"
See screenshot, no quotes, case sensitive.
Note: The game function of the buttons never get disabled. This app just listens for those buttons and then executes a command.
Coming Soon:
1. Custom Mode
2. Support for more Xperia Play devices / ROMS.
3. Real Tasker Support Way Later
4. Some automation maybe
Please post all questions, comments, bugs, and requests in this thread.
Thank You!
How about assigning the keys for volume control? In book reading Apps, L and R are much more convenient than the volume buttons when I have to flip the page.
A widget for quick mode switching could be nice as well.
Sure I can add that. But remember, a restart is still required.
Widget, probably not ... or maybe later ... im not so good with them.

You mean because you press L and R right?
Once I figure out how to change the buttons without a restart then we could use something like Tasker to change them based on different conditions. Camera if CAMERA is open, Music only if music app is opened, Game otherwise. Or maybe just manually change them faster.

Yep, there's already a free app by an XDA member.
any way to achive this without restart? Would it work if you assign each button to a separate app (similary to assigning to camera currently I assume and probably restart first time only). The app you assign simply check what is required in an extra config file which can be changed on the fly without need to restart. Is this possible at all or is there a particular limitation how android works with those buttons? Thanks in advance

Yup, I actually posted that in the OP.
It hasn't been working for some people including me, maybe different models are different.
Anyways, if this app sells at all that developer will be first in the donate list along with the guy who found a way to use the official PSX emulator with custom images.

This is coming soon, it was in the market description but I posted it in the OP.
About your idea, it wouldn't work for two reasons.
1. You can't assign a button to an app (that I know of)
2. You wouldn't want to open an app every time you hit a button (especially when playing a game) it would be too slow.
I am exploring two ideas to get this working.
1. Find what causes those files to be loaded. Find away to restart that and force it to load the files again.
2. A much harder way, but this one will work for sure (I've got a proof of concept but no time yet.)
Thank you for explaining. I look forward to the no reboot version. Page up and down option would be great. Many thanks in advance

Can you add functionality to the default web browser? Like make L be the back button and R be the Forward button?
I really liked that function on my PSP browser (years ago when I used it every so often).
Also, add the functionality to the default Launcher? L for next left screen, R for next right screen. I'm not sure if either of these is even possible, but just throwing some ideas at you!
I'd be down to purchase it if you added either one. Thanks!

I'd settle for the web browser L and R function
I will settle for pgdown pgup or even dpadup and down for shoulder buttons as long as they don't overwrite their function implemented already in games, emulators and camera mod apps. There is another post regarding shoulder buttons for ereaders - i'm away from my pc so cannot link - but it recommends another app there too.

Sorry, the files are different in 2.3.2 vs 2.3.3.
I will disable the app for now. I deserve that 1 star rating for that.
Anyways, download the attached file, extract the file inside and copy it (using any file manager, I use EStrong) to /system/usr/keylayout override any existing file.
Reboot afterwards, this should fix your issue.
Again sorry, I'm bringing the app down for now. I'll almost done with a big update that will not require restarts anyways.
