[Q] Disabling text to speech - General Questions and Answers

I am new user of Samsung Captivate and this is my first android phone.
I have set up my phone to snych with exchange and gmail which works as expected. The problem I am facing is phone "speaks" my appointment. As I recall this started happening after I tried google navigation which forced me to download text to speech package.
I would rather keep my appointments private than announce it to the world. Is there a way to achieve this?
I have tried checking the driving mode check box under text to speech. Does not help. Phone still speaks my appointments.

Android issues with unknown number, calendar recurrence, contact sync

I just graduated from a Blackberry to the HTC Incredible. After a few days of use and way too much forum browsing, I still have a few issues that I cannot resolve. Please help if you know of any solutions!
1. PHONE: If I dial one of my local contacts and do not include the area code, the call log labels the call as UNKNOWN. This is somewhat frustrating as every phone that I've ever owned was sophisticated enough to known that I'm dialing a known contact even if the area code is not included.
2. CONTACT SYNC: I synced my Blackberry with Outlook. I had no problem getting all of my contacts into the Incredible, but now I want to sync them with Google Contacts and ditch Outlook. I cannot change the PC Sync label on each contact in my phone though, and I'm not even sure if it has anything to do with it.
3. CALENDAR RECURRENCE: I often need to enter meetings to repeat on multiple days of the week. For instance, I may have a review meeting every Tuesday and Thursday. Is there a calendar app that has the capability of recurrence in this manner? I know this is a popular problem, but I have been unsuccessful in finding a solution. It seems insane to have to enter these types of recurrences through Google Calendar to have them sync with the phone properly.
4. MAIL: If I setup my "native" or default google account in the HTC mail app, it syncs with IMAP to get all of the existing mail. HOWEVER, it will not show any new mail that comes in. I have unchecked the sync with the Gmail App ( I cannot remove the account from the Gmail App), but no matter what I do, I cannot get new mail in HTC Mail. Each time I try removing the account from HTC and setting it up again, the new mail shows up, but nothing new from then on.
5. POPUP NOTIFICATIONS: I love the notifications that I get in the status bar for new mail or text messages. Is there anything that I can use to have these notifications popup in a new window on my screen?
Please help! This is an awesome phone, but it just seems that some of the "basics" are missing.
Why didnt you post this in the HTC Incredible subforums? I doubt you will get an answer in here.

Biggest Google Talk Complaint

During the day I use a Google Talk client on my computer as I do a lot of communication using it throughout the day. The problem is, responding to a message on my computer does not clear the notification on my phone. Every time someone sends me a new message, I have to go around to every device I have Google Talk logged in and clear all the notifications. It's very annoying.
What I would like to see is similar to email, where reading the message on my computer clears the new mail notification on my phone, and vise versa.
Anyone else frustrated by this, and does anyone know of a Google Talk or Jabber client that has this functionality?

Google Talk Re-entering old messages

I'm an avid user of Google Talk (or Gtalk as they say) because of the snappy way it delivers messages to my friends over 3G rather than normal SMS messages.
The problem I've had with Gtalk though is that ever since the March version of Gapps from Cyanogen there seems to be a bug that keeps repeating old phrases i've already messaged.
For example:
I'll type, "Hi" to someone, and then directly after I start typing... problem is that "Hi" comes up in my dialogue box before whatever new thing I'm typing. So my message looks like this:
Me: Hi
Me: Hiwhats up?
And so forth, and it'll continue forever, unless I leave around a 3 second waiting period before entering more text. Anyone else have this problem? Fixes for this?
Thanks!
I get this as well

Urgent help with Google Voice needed please

Hello, coming from the EVO, and now the awesome Nexus-S 4G, I am used to the stock Visual Voicemail that Sprint provides on the EVO's, and with the Nexus I just setup Google Voice. Some issues and questions please.
- My texts are going to the Voice app, not GO SMS anymore ? I only want texts using the GO app, not Google Voice.
- It seems I did use Google Voice like a year ago, and I have a boatload of message popping up from last year, how do I delete all these old voice mail messages ?
- Is there a way for the little Voice app icon, to display a # next to it of unread messages ? Like if I miss a text message it will show a little number 1 at the top corner of the app icon of how many missed texts I have, can the voice icon show that too ?
UPDATE;
I logged into my Google account on my computer, found the settings options, but some things still seem strange ?
My text messages are still going to Google Voice, and not even showing up in my GO SMS text app at all, or even the stock Android messaging, they are only going to Google voice ? I did log into my gmail account on my computer and disabled texts, but it didn't seem to take ?

Clearing the Voice mail notification

Everyone,
For the longest I was using the Infuse 2.2.3 ROM but recently I have been experimenting with other ROMS and having fun. During this experimenting, I had one problem that is; I couldn't get rid of the Voice mail notification on Top view. Good news, today I decided to go into the voice options and delete my voice mail number being with 9 and save without any voice number listed. Next, I rebooted my phone, re-entered my number back in the voice mail number option. Then I proceeded to check my voice mails and once I got the message no new voice mail, I press the * to end the voice mail process and the notification when away. I hope this help those of you who are stuck like a I was with the voice mail notification.
Have a good day!
