For headphones anything will work on the Desire if it's 3.5 mm. Just buy anything.

There are many different models and designs of cheap headphones that are available in market. These headphones will allow you to listen to all of your music in privacy. Cheap headphones are just discount rates and not the one with low quality. These headphones are affordable especially for them who is looking for low budget.
Headphone recommendation
I got a pair of Skullcandy Titan that are decent headphones with a mic built in. The button on the mic lets you answer calls and skip tracks on the music player and sound quality is OK although you need to experiment with the different tips to get a good fit.
They are on offer from Play.com for about £14

using Sennheiser CX 400 and sound is great ;-)
Cheap and good headphones
Has anyone here used the Philips SHH7810. Got it here in Mumbai, India for as little as INR 1,150 (which is about $25). Sounds great and works perfectly with my Desire.
Here is how to get to the image (they won't let me post it):

I'm having to borrow my brother's 3GS headphones atm, as they have a mic, and like you all my headsets with mics are broken
They sound terrible, bass drowns out everything else.
I bought a pair of Sony in-ear buds in a Tesco sale, should have been 25, mine for 9 quid HMV do a nice colourful (they come in black too) range of in ear buds, radiopaq I think there called, tenner brand new, I used them all summer was very happy with them
If you need a mic, you could try getting a Galaxy S headset off of eBay, there supposed to be very good, in-ear again so hardly any sound leakage, compared to others that is
I've been using the same Sennheiser CX300s for about 4 years now and they were the greatest investment ever
AU$70 and I still use them with my laptop and phone.
Unfortunately finding the old first series ones are hard and apparently the CX300 IIs sounds crap in comparison. However Sennheiser do have similar models with built-in mic now which would be more suited to phone use
Zagg Earphones by a long shot... they have the best sound quality and are extremely durable.

Very nice headset, and great audio quality. The controls are hit and miss. I'm running Oxygen Test ROM so i don't know if this has any bearing on the interface between the headset and device.
The play/pause works fine. As does skip track. But the volume up/down doesn't and neither does previous track. Making and accepting calls works a treat.
I wonder if there's any app that can assign buttons to tasks on android?
Nokia BH-214 - 100% compatible, good quality, bought it for 25 euro.

Headphones are common devices which are used with different kinds of multimedia gadgets. These headphones are very useful if you feel to listen any music in privacy. A headphone is the perfect solution when you want to attach a speaker with your portable device so that you can move around freely listening music.

My last piece of work
A few days ago bought Nokia BH-505. Nice piece of art, no wires at all, next/prev tracks, volume, stop/pause, answer call controls. I can't say it's cheap (around $80), but I think it costs its money.

Hi all!
I'm wondering if anyone have tried Apples earphones on the Desire? I must say that I don't really like HTC's earphones. But I've always loved my iPod's earphones
Here's a link for which earphones I mean; http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB770G/A?fnode=MTY1NDA1MA&mco=MTM3NTI1NDE.
Does the earphones in it selves work? What about the mic and the remote? The controlbuttons for music?
Thanks in advance
I'm not really a music listener on portable devices but did plug in my wife's iPhone headphones and they worked, as expected. Didnt try out the controls though.
Yes, I knew that the earphones worked. But I don't know whether or not the mic are working?
They should work.
An HTC representative have tried the HTC headphones in an iPhone 3G with a working mic and controllers, so the Apple earphones should also work in an HTC phone.

I have the in-ear ones, and the mic does work. Just not the controls, pause, volume up and down etc.
My iPhone earphones work fine. The mic works, as does the click to pause function. The only thing that doesn't work on them is the volume control, but that never worked with my iPhone 3G either (although these weren't the original headphones that came with the 3G so I think they're the 3GS version)

And you have tested it on the HTC Desire?
If I were you I'd invest in a decent set of headphones if you're looking to use them regularly. Apple headphones that come with any ipod are terrible. I used a pair for a over a year and only when I bought a replacement pair of decent Sony headphones did I realise how bad the Apple ones really are.
Combined with Meridian Player pause and play will work
Hello again,
after a year of being absent to the forum - since i got my iphone - i now choosed to buy the desire and am realy interested to use my apple earphones.
i bought the better ones with two drivers each side and have to say, that these pair are really good.
Because of the open-source character of the os, it should be possible to add some compiled sourcecode, like an threaded app, that reads the input of the headset controls and after it alter the volume, shouldn´t it?
thank you
Yep that sounds like a great idea! I just wish I could code lol

I agree with the normal bundle ones. However the new in-ear Apple headphones are great, but you would expect they would be for £60. Had over 8 pair of other headphones in the last couple of years, and I can say for me and the music I listen they are very very good.

Just wanted to let you know that the Griffin iTalk remote works fine. Play/pause works in the standard music app, but not skip forward or backwards. If I am using Spotify however, skip forward works but not backwards. The Mic also works fine. There is no volume slide.
I'm sat here listening to Spotify on my Desire and realised that double-clicking on Apple iPhone headphones skips tracks. Pretty cool
So will ones made by 3rd parties (Skull Candy for example) which include mics work too?
etymotic hf 2 for desire??
Hi guys, u'm hoping to buy the etymotic hf2 headset with the Mic to go with my desire.. would u guys by any chance know wether it would work?? I mean de Mic and the music controls. Iv noticed when I plug in my old Nokia headset de sound is muffled. Thanks in advance.
I soldered some sony-in-ears onto the original one.
The original earphones fall out of my ear, it's bad fit. Soldering works fine, I still have remote+antenna and GOOD sound

Sennheiser has the MM series. Most of iPhone capable MMs are compatible with android 3,5 mm audio/mic jack
http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb...ords=sennheiser+mm&x=0&y=0&sprefix=sennheiser
Hmm, that's cool
So, the Sennheiser MM70i should do be compatible right??

Can anyone confirm they can make/receive calls on the desire HD suing these phones and that they will operate android MP3 players that are not built by HTC (e.g spotify etc.)

I've tried various headsets from Nokia and Samsung, but the microphones don't even work with the Desire or DHD, let alone the play/pause/skip buttons. Not a fan of the in ear headsets myself, but would be interested in a slightly longer set than the ones that come with these handsets.

I already have a Nokia BH-500, but can't be bothered with extra cables, recharging, switching on and off etc.
Get new car in 2 weeks with built-in bluetooth so won't be as big an issue, but would still like a 'manual' solution just in case.

Same here with some Bose earbuds slapped on to them, only problem is the volume isn't that great plus I use the A2DP Volume app and that doesn't do much in the way of boosting the volume.

Hi, I just bought this great phone, and now want to buy headphones with remote control for music and microphone to answer calls ... Juts like the ones the come included with the phone, but with much better sound. Can you recommend some?
Any headphones with remote control, such as the iPhone, would work in the Desire HD with full funcionality? Thank you very much everybody.
Forget that... sorry.
Had a look for some but didn't find. So I'm thinking about making my own by cutting the stock headphone just above the control/mic unit and then attaching to a decent pair of headphones to it. Should be pretty simple I think.

this is the best works perfect, and has a high definition sound

I personally use the 'jabra bt3030'. Search it on google. The sound quality is awesome and it also is usefull for awnsering calls (great microphone! people don't hear I'm in my car, and my car makes some sound!), but the primary use is for listening to music. I currently have poweramp on my phone and it works with the headset buttons.
The best thing for me is that you can put the phone in your pocket, bag, or leave it on the table and walk away without fear cables getting stuck, or having to stop the music.
What it isn't good for, is navigation. The headset goes in standby when there isn't any sound played. This saves energy but there is a small lag between the headset going on and playing sound. This doesn't happen when listening music or awnsering calls, it stays on. But for navigation, often two words fall away. The battery life is awesome. I sometimes question myself if this thing has a corereactor inside producing it's own energy.
Only negative point is the price. It's more expensive then none bluetooth headsets. But the durability is high and makes up for the price.
I think the Jabra seems the best choice, especially since you can attach your own headphones... The only downside I find is that you must have the bluetooth on all the time, and if the Desire HD battery may suffer because of it. And we all know battery is not one of the strong points in this phone...
Any wired alternative?
Currently I have the Dr. Dre beat Tour mobile headphones. The button works with droidshuffle app. But if the action is more than a single tap of the button, it goes into phone mode. Hoping for someone to fix that. For now I can only use the button as a next track button, but the sound quality is great so i deal with it.
Bluetooth headsets are compatible with almost all phones.
I'd recommend a bluetooth headset but with some tweaks the HTC DHD headset is also great.
You could cut out the earpieces and attach some new ones.
Well looks like cutting and attaching a 3.5mm jack isn't as easy as I thought it would be, I have the sound working but not the controls - I haven't touched anything on that side so I've got no idea why!
Here's what the inside front looks like:

Here's the back:
On the second pic, the connection on the top is my new wiring.
For anyone else thinking of having a go, apart from the controls not working, you show be aware that the wires are coated in an enamel which makes the connections a little trickier plus the board is held in with some tough insulating glue which will have to be removed before you can take it out (this might be visible on one side of the first pic - yellowish colour).
Looks like I'll have to keep looking for un-ear headphones with music control and Mic unless anyone has any tips.

Tried to give it a go myself a while ago. I ended up tearing up the wires on the board. The weld spots loosens easily then everything goes to shät.
I like akg headphones. Good quality sound at a reasonable price. At their site they have a model with a remote and mic on it (wired). It only says compatible with iphone.
Does anyone know if they work on other phones, like htc?

Hey how do you connect a bluetooth headset to the Desire HD? I have trouble
wouldnt it be easier just to swap the speer part of the HTC headset
This is what I did..too bad I didn't have a camera lying around to take a pics when i opened up this. But this way you wont ruin your board soldering. Oh and remember to use a 15W-25W (I use an ANTEX C15) or you'll end up burning the speaker coils and the film.
I use Jabra 3030 for music and when I'm driving. This was just an experiment, got this cheap Panasonic headset for a tenner from HMV and sounds amazing..just like my Jabra
hi kamranh3 what is the model of your bt headset? there should be a pairing button somewhere.(read the manual if you're not sure) usually you gotta press it for 2-5 secs to put it on pairing mode.then tap scan for devices on your DHD and it should see your headset..well probably

@ Rajnus:
the Sennheiser MM50 has "only" a button for take and end calls or can you skip the tracks and adjust the volume?
I haven't found at the moment a heaset fitting for the DHD which has all this features, so I will solder my own headset, since I modifed my HTC RC C160 to have after the mic and control piece a standard 3,5mm female jack to plug each headset. but this solution locks not perfect, there are than to much cables and I can't adjust the volume.
So I will make a second headset: (the parts should arrive in the next days)
a further HTC RC C160 + Sennheiser CX280 (with integrated small Volume controller. all from Amazon.de for less the 40€
I will again open the mic piece of the c160 and solder the cutted wire from the cx280 (after the volume controller) and have so a (for me) perfect DHD headset. let's see if that work
Anyway, if somebody has a better out of the box solution for a in-ear headset with volume and musicplayer control for the DHD please feel free to share!

Iv not seen anything that could let you use that type of earphone sorry...
I have tried two different earphones that have inline controls and found that the play/hold to skip etc button will work but the others such as volume wont. So not sure if skip buttons would work anyway, just to let you know.
The hardware case wouldn't match the stick, I'm afraid, so i won't think it will ever work.

Lookin for an In-ear headset with remote for my Desire S
Sure we got a headset from HTC which came with the phone, and while the remote controller on the headset is great, the earphones themself are unconfortable and their sound quality is just not well enough.
Thats why im hunting on the internet for some propper headset with a remote, which can controll the music player on my Desire S.
Sadly, I didn't find it so far...
I'd really appreciate if someone could suggest me a Brand, who makes compatible In-Ear style earphones for HTC phones.
think this will give you what you want

you can buy the apple in ear phones if you dont mind wearing this trendy piece of sh**! I dont think it'll work with the stock player, but works with powerAMP and PlayerPro. I use the 'stock-apple-headphones' with the controll (with playerPRO) and I dont see why it shouldnt work with the in ear phones.
Im not allowed to post external links, just google for 'apple in ear headphones'

If you want to get a little creative with a pair of in ear buds. Going to try this this week.
Try some skullcandies. They are excellent sound quality, warranty is awesome (mechanical failure- free replacement, you break them- 50% off next skullcandies)
Some variants of the in ear headphones have in line controls, but they are about the size of the iPod ones, not sure if that's big enough for you...
Or, if you want to risk it... Try splicing the cable =)
I'm not sure if you've sorted this problem, but I just tried looking for the same thing.. HTC here sells in-ear headphones with limited controls (it plays/pauses and double clicks for next, but it is supposed to triple click to reverse.. as if) anyway, they aren't that good, but they do work with HTC gear..
BUT - today I went to a Sony Ericsson store and they had bluetooth headphones with FULL controls.. large like the ones you posted and they worked perfectly on my Desire.. they were expensive though... and I've never road tested them, but in the store, they were amazing.
if you google Sony Ericsson Bluetooth headphones, they come up right away.. there are a couple different models and you can switch the buds as well, which I hadn't realised.. (I never thought to check, but the SE ones sounded good anyway)
Well your headphone has a 3.5mm port but they appear to have an extra part that fits into something. It's hard to explain... erm in the pic to the bottom left so I wouldn't be too sure if they'd work or not. HTC give you free headphones with their phones but frankly They're not very well shaped for inside the ear as they're a complete round shape and are uncomfortable and awkward. I want to find better ones with all the music controls...
I use a pair of these:
klipsch. com/ na-en/ products/ image-s4i-overview
They're designed for the iPhone but they give pretty awesome quality and can be had pretty cheap now they're a bit older.
Pretty much any third party music player app can manipulate the middle button and you can answer calls/use the mic with them too.
I use PowerAmp and a single click on the middle button plays/pauses music, double click goes to the next track and triple click the previous. Unfortunately the volume up/down buttons don't work, but doesn't bother me as I can press the side volume keys on the phone through my jeans

Hi all,
I am thinking of buying a HTC Desire. I currently use an Xperia x8 and they have inline headphones which are pretty good but require a special port
Does such a think exist for the desire? Will it require a different music application? I use the Xperia x8 while cycling so having big music controls is very handy!
Thanks

Has anyone tried a set of headphones designed for the iPhone? I am partial to Sennheiser headphones myself and they do a set for that phone that has some similar controls.
Otherwise I will just hack a solution out of the set of headphones supplied with my soon to be purchased Desire S and my current pair of Sennheiser in ears. I am also tempted to make a setup for my HD 465 over the head headphones.

I got last summer zagg smartbuds and since then I have no problem at all.
I use PlayerPro.
The good thing about smartbuds over the other ones is that they have their own volume control (a sliding button) so 1 click for pause, 2 clicks for next, and 3 for previous and also volume control without touching the phone.

Beats by Dre: Tour with music control
I'm currently using the XFL2V-U-MBLACK by V-MODA also known as the Crossfade LP2 Vocal Limited Edition (Over-Ear, Noise-Isolating, Metal Headphones).
They are pretty comfortable and come with 2 cables on with mic and the other with out, Great for listening with the Dac on the V30+

Sennheiser PXC550.
Mostly on BT connection but also on wired. Amazing sound with the QuadDAC when using cable.
Bought in Norway, so here's the link to Sennheiser official page:

Klipsch 11i
Sennheiser HD485's, had for well over a decade and not far off replacing, but crazy comfortable.
Shure SE215's, decent sounding, comfortable, low profile so you can wear them while lying on your side, easy to listen to, and really good noise attenuation for noisy environments. Brought in New Zealand so link would be useless.
KZ AS-10 - Cheap Chinese balanced armature IEMS. I own about 8 different sets of KZs and these are the best so far, well balanced and incredibly detailed headphones, without the sibilance and harsh treble of KZs other models. Purchased from Aliexpress: https://bit.ly/2Qd2hHo
KZ ZS6 - Much deeper bass response than the AS-10s, but harsh treble for music like rock or metal, I use these for electronic music. Purchased from aliexpress, same as above.
The SE215s were my go to when out of the house, with the HD485s the rest of the time, but the AS10s have taken over for most uses now.
i am using sony ex150 ap bought from Amazon

I never thought I say this but... I'm rockin beats studio 3, but I don't use them wireless because I prefer wired the hifi system of the phone works awesome... Don't have a link because I bought them from 2nd hand for a really good price
KZ ZS10 4+1 hybrid it's a little tricky to drive on my S7, Volume is not quite high even when maxxed out, on V30 it's much better fuller bass and 60% volume is already loud.
KZ had overpowered treble sibilance since the zs5 series which can get tiring if I pair it with V30, but they fixed it in this edition. Bought mine from AliExpress but i guess you can buy it on amazon.

Rose gold V moda crossfade 2 wireless.
Had them imported as they weren't available in the UK at the time

Pioneer SE-CH9T, bought in a local music store. I bought it to replace a pair of Shure SE215s that just developed a broken cable for the second time (the original Shure replacement cable that I bought lasted about 2 years, while the cable that originally came with the headphones lasted for more than 4). They are about the same price as the SE215s (slightly less than 100€), but they sound so much better! They're louder, clearer and have more bass. I'm really loving them.
You should be able to get them just about everywhere (Amazon should have them all around the world).

Shipping was much quicker than I expected, a week or 2. They sound good to me, about 50 percent volume is loud enough for me.
I got the 150 ohm version because they are cheap and wasn't sure how well the V30 would drive high impedance, low efficiency phones. Next time I'll get the 320 ohm version for $75cad.
Flc8s
I bought them for their modibility. I was torn, I didn't want to buy a pair of "expensive" iems only to not like them. I figured I might be able to tune them to what I think at least sounds acceptable for the amount of money I paid. They do actually sound great. I haven't had buyers remorse at all. Plus, my nerdiness allows me to tinker with them, which I like.
I'm using Vinic Hearable http://en.vinci.im/1.5/
Amazon https://www.amazon.com/VINCI-Vinci-Hearable-Classic-White/dp/B072JZGB5W
I have the Audio Technica M50X ... it can handle any setting Viper4audio produced ... just amazing... with thundering bass you can feel the cups vibrate in and out of your ears . In Australia it is about $200 at JB Hifi or music specialist store.

Thanks for reporting.
150 ohm, that's high.
Why are you getting the 320 ohm version?
What do you expect to be better?
I would like to replace my Sennheiser cx-500i with ones that will activate the DAC

These headphones activate the quad dac and the phone easily drives them past what I can listen to.
I don't know exactly what happens with higher Ohm headphones, I think there is an improvement in bass. I won't get them soon, I have 2 sets of earbuds and a pair of Fidelio X2. I'm good for awhile.
Edit to add: here's an article on the difference between high and low impedance. https://www.cnet.com/news/headphone...d-to-know-about-low-vs-high-impedance-models/
Sennheiser HD1 (Pink Floyd edition) here.

Thanks for the link. I think its a case of the more I find out the less I know (cue for a song)
Interesting stuff though.
I didn't know that you could actually buy a pair of headphones for $55000 (sennheiser orpheus ) possibly OTT even for the V30+...
Let us know how (if?) the 320 ohm ones sound.
EDIT: According to this they might not work properly
