Ok, I followed all of the steps and I think everything went fine. But I just have one question. When it was flashing to 2.2 and it set completed.(On Odin, Not on the phone) I noticed it had said something about Succeeded 1/Failed 1. Also I notice something COM 3... Does anyone know what this means exactly?

Hey everyone... I'm sorta new to rooting. I have a samung epic 4g for sprint. Right now I'm running 2.2 froyo eb13 I just upgraded it. I don't have a computer now cuz it needs to get fixed but I do use my friends mac and occasionally his slow windows xp computer. I know there are apps for rooting your fone without using a pc. Apps such as z4 root ad visionary+ [r14] and universal androot... but I'm having issues with those too.
Z4root- it won't get past a certain screen then it randomly vibrates and slows down my phone drastically. My friend has 2.1 for his vibrant... we both have galaxy s phones. Z4root worked for him within seconds. It won't work for me. Maybe if I downgrade to 2.1 first? Then up to froyo?
VISIONary- it stays on tthe loading screen I can't even temp root it. I tried rebooting the phone nothing works... it slows it down and randomly vibrates like z4root.
Universal androot this is a joke. No matter what I do... "sorry I cannot root your phone "
My questions are:
1. Is there an easier way to root it, maybe another app I don know about? Or if I can download the root and save it like an update.zip?
2. If not... how can I down grade the rom to 2.1? Can I just download the apk and rename it update.zip and go from there when I put it int recovery mode?
3. If I have no luck with rooting it from my phone how can I root it from a mac without using wndows parallel?
I'm so frustrated.... please help me someone... I've been playing this this stupid fone for days. I seem to have no luckkk
I am having the exact same issue. I have had Z4 root on my Samsung Epic 4G (sprint) for about 5 months, and it worked wonderfully. Never had any problems. Just yesterday, the long anticipated Froyo (android 2.2) upgrade was pushed out to my phone. Now, the Z4 root will no longer work. In fact, it does exactly what diamondprincessxoo explains that her phone does in the post above. Any suggestions???
What I am trying to do now is download odin and flash my phone to 2.1 to re download eclair. I don't know if once I download it to 2.1 if when I upgrade it back to 2.2 if z4root will still kep my phone rooted. Hopefully it will. I will do more indepth research later. If I am successfuli wat o eventually upgrade it to 2.3 gingerbread.. but my pc is acting up so idk its a challenge fixing that first
Same problem omg someone help us
Okay. So, newbie to the entire android scene. As the video will tell you.
I bought a Evo Shift 4g, it has 2.3.3, I see now that there is NO perm-root for this phone. However, I started following this guide; (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=932153) using the Froyo Method(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1185243), rather than visionary+ or z4 (Neither worked)
But, now im knee-deep in the guide, where I have already flashed the first file. And the MD5 didnt match. How sad, So I decided to give it a few more swings. After Shift-Root(8).zip, I decided to throw in the towel.
(The entire process actually had me Mount the SD on PC, delete, recopy, disconnect, re-install BusyBox, then use commands)
So now im trying to flash back the original. And that MD5 doesnt match either. After like 7 times. So as the guide says, it seems my phone will brick if I turn it off. So now im just looking for a complete restore, back to 2.3.3 original unrooted, I know that makes my contacts disappear, but they are all synced from my google. So im not too worried. Just hoping thats possible for 2.3.3.
My question, What is the next step I should take ?
[SOLVED]Just turned it off, its fine. No damage. Everything in tact.
Hopefully another newbie sees this thread and his heart rate will decrease just a little.
The phone IS rootable as of today!

Flash from 2.3.3 to 2.2 and then go through the steps to root the phone!
Have fun!
I've tried every method. Odin doesn't recognize my phone. I've downloaded drivers a half dozen times. I've gotten every file set up only to have odin just sit there without giving me a com.
Then I've tried several versions of z4, oneclickroot, and gingerbreak. Nothing works. I'm wondering if there's just no way to root or flash my phone.
I'm on an sgs i500.04
Gingerbread 2.3.5
K EI20
Was rooted with oneclick till update, through kies, to gingerbread.
Cspire.
Anyone please help. I'm going a little crazy over this.
i give up
I guess a way just doesn't exist for my phone.
Things I've tried unsuccessfully:
DoomLorD.zip (every version) (Unable to copy SU files, reboot, not rooted)
OneClick (every version)
Gingerbreak ( '' )
z4
SDK with adb recovery (E:signature verification failed)
Odin (will not recognize my phone in download mode)
Cannot get heimdall(sp) do download.? probably couldnt use it anyway.
I thought to wait on a rooted ICS version, and would love to flash that to my phone, but have no ODIN! Go figure.
Anyway, I guess there is just not a way to do my phone. It resists all methods. Does anyone else with a i500 Showcase on the kies update to gingerbread 2.3.5 have this problem? Is this Cspire gingerbread unhackable?
Hey, sent you a pm...
Same Problem

Who is your carrier?
jbreakfield, you're alive?
samsung drivers
Do you have proper samsung drivers installed for your windows version..Also check to see if usb debugging is activated. Im no expert but hopefully this helps.
Another idea is to try a different usb port. I had one go bad.
I spent about a day uninstalling, rebooting, installing several different drivers. Also rebooting after each new install. No matter what I did ODIN wouldn't see my phone.
I got the idea to try another usb on the back of my desktop pc.
ODIN finally connected!
Hope this helps. Regards.

Rumors of my death are greatly exaggerated...
SuperOneClick

enable debugging on the phone, plug it in, if you need drivers use the ones inside the zip file. Run the program and hopefully the rest is pretty self-explanatory.

This sub-forum is pretty much dead, practically everyone with a Mesmerize/Showcase is on rootzwiki

Hi im new to this and I was wondering if someone could help me.
I have the Samsung infuse 4g and I want to root it. The firmware version is 2.3.6, and I know I need to downgrade to a lower firmware version but im not sure how. I've also tried rooting before I upgraded but I could never do it right. Anything I tried would never work. It might be lot to ask but I'd like if I could get a step by step on how to downgrade and root by someone that has actually done it on an infuse.
Can anyone help?
Im not really sure about the downgrade part, but i rooted one today and not sure the firmware verson. what i used was super one click by shortfuse 2.3.3 i believe. i had to go into settings>applications>developement and enable usb debugging. you might need the samsung drivers. also i right clicked on the program and ran as administrator. if you try it and super one click hangs, just restart the phone. unplug and plug back in and restart the program. hope this helps, btw still dont know if it will help with your downgrade.
I have a brand new stock verizon S3 and am wondering if I can use the MrRobinson root method to root for the very first time. I swear someone in one of the forums said they did but it sounds like most people are using those images to just update. I originally tried this 4.1.1/4.1.2 method and it bricked my phone on flashing the VRALEC bootchain step, everything looked good in odin, the phone looked like it tried to restart, then went black and never came back. I got a new phone and am wary of trying the same method again. If that is the method I have to use any thoughts on what could have went wrong?
I appreciate any input.
There should be no problem using the Mr. Robinson file in Odin. I have flashed the bootchain that soft bricked your phone and had no issue. Your following the Odin instructions exactly, right....just checking. Everything needs to be installed using the PDA slot unless it specifically says to put the file somewhere else....I have not run into that yet. You had problems with Odin before so that makes me a little apprehensive advising you to use it again.
The Mr. Robinson 4.1.2 file is not the ota. Use the 4.1.1 ota file so you can grab the 4.1.2 ota. Before installing 4.1.2 ota install ota voodoo rootkeeper....temp unroot, take ota then reroot. Pretty sure that's the only way other than flashing the bootchain that will get you on stock rooted 4.1.2

I actually had the video demo they have linked open and was watching that then pausing and following the directions and making sure everything I was doing was identical. I really have no idea what happened, I've read over the directions a few times watched the video again and I can't see anything I may have missed. But it hard bricked my phone, I couldn't turn it on or get back into download mode or anything.
If I can just use the MrRobinson method on a brand new unrooted phone I will do that. I think the phone was already on 4.1.2 when I got it, so that won't matter using the 4.1.1 ota file? I've been flashing roms and toying around with my Incredible 2 since the day I got it basically and have never had any problems. Now that I had this issue with the S3 i'm scared to try anything . It seems the S3 has a good community though which is the main reason I went with it over my other options.
I would be scared to use Odin if I had your experience too. I've used Odin several times without any issue but I have not used it since the 4.1.2 update....although I'm sure many have without any problems. Yes, you can flash any OTA via Odin even if your going backwards . I can't say you won't have any issues because I don't think you should have had an issue the first time.......maybe wait to see what others think?

idk why that happened. My best guess is if the battery was low prior to you using Odin then it may have needed charging. But that VRALEC/Odin method is proven working countless times and those files linked in the OP have been used countless times.
Just know that with mrRobinson's pre-rooted images, you'll still need to unlock your bootloader with say EZ Unlock v1.2 (available on Rootzwiki so google it) before you decide to flash custom roms/kernels.

Like I said above, may have been the luck of the draw or it could have needed charging.

If you want to have a 4.1.2 rooted stock version, you need to download MrRobinson, K3 full wipe image with root (http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=9390214368362234355), unzip it first, then use Odin to flash this, then install Voodoo OTA root keeper from the market to preserve root, then let OTA update back to 4.1.2, finally use OTA root keeper to restore root. Done, simple and risk free.
You guys rock thank you!
As a followup for anyone that may stumble upon this thread in the future, I used the method provided by buhohitor and it worked like a champ. I flashed the mrRobinson image used ez unlocker to unlock the bootloader then used ez recovery to flash the latest version of TWRP. I'm now running this Paranoid Android 4.2.2 Rom and it is fantastic!
