Hey everyone... I'm sorta new to rooting. I have a samung epic 4g for sprint. Right now I'm running 2.2 froyo eb13 I just upgraded it. I don't have a computer now cuz it needs to get fixed but I do use my friends mac and occasionally his slow windows xp computer. I know there are apps for rooting your fone without using a pc. Apps such as z4 root ad visionary+ [r14] and universal androot... but I'm having issues with those too.
Z4root- it won't get past a certain screen then it randomly vibrates and slows down my phone drastically. My friend has 2.1 for his vibrant... we both have galaxy s phones. Z4root worked for him within seconds. It won't work for me. Maybe if I downgrade to 2.1 first? Then up to froyo?
VISIONary- it stays on tthe loading screen I can't even temp root it. I tried rebooting the phone nothing works... it slows it down and randomly vibrates like z4root.
Universal androot this is a joke. No matter what I do... "sorry I cannot root your phone "
My questions are:
1. Is there an easier way to root it, maybe another app I don know about? Or if I can download the root and save it like an update.zip?
2. If not... how can I down grade the rom to 2.1? Can I just download the apk and rename it update.zip and go from there when I put it int recovery mode?
3. If I have no luck with rooting it from my phone how can I root it from a mac without using wndows parallel?
I'm so frustrated.... please help me someone... I've been playing this this stupid fone for days. I seem to have no luckkk
I am having the exact same issue. I have had Z4 root on my Samsung Epic 4G (sprint) for about 5 months, and it worked wonderfully. Never had any problems. Just yesterday, the long anticipated Froyo (android 2.2) upgrade was pushed out to my phone. Now, the Z4 root will no longer work. In fact, it does exactly what diamondprincessxoo explains that her phone does in the post above. Any suggestions???
What I am trying to do now is download odin and flash my phone to 2.1 to re download eclair. I don't know if once I download it to 2.1 if when I upgrade it back to 2.2 if z4root will still kep my phone rooted. Hopefully it will. I will do more indepth research later. If I am successfuli wat o eventually upgrade it to 2.3 gingerbread.. but my pc is acting up so idk its a challenge fixing that first
Same problem omg someone help us

Im just getting extremely frustrated with the 6 or 7 something tutorials i have gone through to get my Mytouch 3G Slide rooted and put Froyo onto it just leads to things not doing what they say they should be, or all the files needed will not download, or whatever. Im at the point of just giving up totally now and this is my last ditch effort to see if there is an actual easy and working method out there that someone can recommend. Anything?
Try z4root, it's supposed to have 100% device compatibility. Also, unrEVOked is a great method for HTC, but you have to have the adb drivers for htc with unrEVOked. (they come with the android sdk)
I used z4 root before it was taken off the market! Worked flawless!
I have been in the same boat with the froyo download!! Frustrating when all you read about is how great it is and how easy it was to download! I can even get mini_kies to complete downloading without getting a error message!
Ok, I've been coming here for a while, never posted, just read. I hold you guys as the defacto authority on all things Android. Now I know my phone in and out, and it was fine before the upgrade.
Z4 mod worked to perm root, which allowed me to use setcpu, vm heap, nlade buddy, etc. And get rid of bloatware.
Fast forward to now.
After upgrading to android 2.2 on the same phone, Z4 no longer works. Literally gets to the "acquiring root shell" step and cuts itself off. Is there a way around this, or another root ap like Z4 I can use? Un rooted, this phone is a POS ya'know?
Any help you guys can give would be greatly appreciated.

Had the same problem with Acer Liquid Metal, SuperOneClick worked, but I take no responsibility if this bricks your device

I have Sony Ericsson x10 mini pro (2.1 update 1)
First of all, what firmware version are you running? No good to us saying Android 2.1, cos theres loads of versions.
The last time I rooted, I used SUperOneClick with RAgeAgainstTheCage (which might flag up as a virus - tell your antivirus to go away). Shouldnt take more than about five minutes as far as I can remember.
hi had same prob with mine but did get it to root using superoneclick when you used superoneclick d id you connect your phone to pc and press charge instead of connect

I've spent some time on the forum trying to find an answer, but obviously that didnt happen.
I have my GS4G and want to just ROOT it without installing any rom to replace the firmware.
1. If i root my phone, can i do JUST that? or are there other steps after simply rooting that are considered important for the stability of my phone?
2. After i root my phone, will i still be able to do the kiesmini/OTA gingerbread *official* (not leaked) update?
My main reason for wanting to do this is for the bloatware and increasing performance, and to just have overall more 'control' (similar to the feeling of wiping a new computer from the manufacture's preloaded poop).
I have superoneclick v1.9.5. I used it as a test on my old MT3G, and installed the GingerYoshi rom, and all worked very well. I just dont want to brick my GS4G, as i paid full price D:.
sorry if this has been asked/answered, i try to play by the rules, but just didnt find my answer.
thanks,
Greg
Super one click root 1.7 was what I used. It just roots the phone, as any other rooting method should. You can get ota fine...I always did. Never had a problem.

Just so you know there's no one-click root method for Gingerbread for the SGS4G yet. Maybe around the time the official ROM comes out there will be.
what does:
"error:more than one device"
mean?? That pops up when i hit root. I only have one phone connected to my PC.
I'm assuming its multiple instances of ADB running? Im not sure..
*EDIT* My mistake lol. still had my MT3G plugged in, my bad!
successfully rooted. Thanks
As the title says, I have the Samsung Galaxy SII Sprint's variation. I rooted my phone when it was on the version before Gingerbread EL29. I used the SuperOneClick method to root my phone and after doing that, 'Superuser' was installed on my phone. Everything was going fine until I accidentally updated my phone to Gingerbread 2.3.6 EL29 via Sprint's over-the-air update. I know it sounds dumb from me but I really knew that if I updated my phone I could mess up my root privileges, but that pop up update was showing up each 5 minutes, that in one of them I accidentally pressed 'install'. Now I have tried to unroot my phone with SuperOneClick but 'Superuser' is still there and when I access an app that requires root privileges like 'Wireless Tether' it says that my phone is not rooted. I also tried to do a factory reset and root again with 'SuperOneClick' but it freezes up (I guess it's because 'Superuser' is still there?) I was also thinking on installing a rooted rom but I don't know if I can install custom roms (I don't know if I have CWM and if it will mess up because I'm not rooted?..) Right now I just want to get the latest rooted stable release possible.. Sorry for extending myself but I wanted to give all the important details as possible as I am new in handling root phones and also in this forum. I will appreciate any help, thanks!
