(Hope I am in the correct section) cant find all apps in Market - Captivate General

Ok so after installing froyo and doing root on my captivate I am not able to find a good portion of apps in the market. I know there was a thread about this already but couldnt seem to find it again to get some answers. Could sombody plese help or point me in the right direction.
Also has there been any fix for the serious browser lag I am experincing running 2.2?
Thanks for your time and help. I have been lerking here for a while but finally registered today.

I'm too lazy to find the threads right now, but apparently a lot of the apps in the market are not updated to state they officially support Froyo (come on app devs get on the ball already please) so you need to manually edit the build properties to say you are actually running 2.1 not 2.2.
There is a separate thread with instructions on how to replace a library file on Froyo with one from the Galaxy Tablet, that thread and the other should be in the Captivate Development forum.

Vodafone Donut - Is there a method to root the latest Oct 2009 1.6 release?

I've been using various Cyanogen and Hero ROMs since June and have now reverted back to the stock Vodafone UK ROM. In general the stock stuff is fine, it's quick and bluetooth audio works for phone and media. I need root access though to use Bluex for bluetooth file send/receive and pushing the HTC_IME keyboard
What I'd like to know is does anyone know how to root the new Donut release?
I've tried the Haykuro's rootmesigned but get a FC and constant reboot...it was worth a try
there is already a full solution for you.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=565929
I used it on mine and works perfectly, no flaws. Install that and you are done.
yeah there is a way. but im not going to answer because this is in the wrong section. read the stickies up top, search around, then post in the right section and maybe you will get more answers.

Aw gee thanks...NOT
If you don't have anything contructive to add then don't.
I spent hours searching and read through countless threads. For your info I have been installing ROMS since they came out in May (before the Wiki was in place), have contributed and would you believe it I have even been thanked for my help, I am comfortable with using ADB, Fastboot etc, am familiar with linux and have read the stickies.
Is asking about a rooted ROM not developement? Have YOU read the stickies because from what I have read, surprise surprise, in this section there is a sticky up above here about hacking and rooting. As far as I'm aware any developement focused questions would be posted in the developement section not general.
If I'm wrong them I'm quite happy to follow the MODS rules and their directions.
Are you going to repeat your post with questions about OTA updates being in the wrong section too?
P.S. the very helpful 'htcmagic' had already spoiled it for you
@BigRD: no problem mate, glad i could help. I installed the rom above and i am extremely happy with it. I have also installed busybox on it too.
Its much faster that vodafones original.
Hey mate, try Amon_Ra's Donut Rom:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=538645
Very fast and stable with Root and others. I'm using it on my vodafone magic. Works really nice.
Or alternatively just go back to Cyanogen. Its Donut and it has more features than any other rom on this site so...its all up to you
@widezu69 & @htcmagic Cool, thanks guys.
I spent a lot of time with Cyanogen's ROMs up until the Google thing happened and was running eViL's Hero ROMs up to v3.0. I wanted to get back to a smoothish stock ROM issued by my network supplier but rooted by one of the great developers on XDA. I keep finding that other than the Vodafone original and the Google ION ROM bluetooth audio for phone and multi media working at the same time is very hit or miss. Am going to give both versions posted here a try over the next few days
Another one who wants a Rooted Vodafone Donut
I am also searching for a method to root a stock Vodafone Magic 32B that has had an OTA Donut update.
The answers on the thread so far involve flashing a new Donut Rom - my issue is that I have Donut already, and have never rooted - I am assuming the Root instructions included in the Wiki and Relentless Rooter are only aimed at Cupcake.....or am I wrong?
Any help/advice appreciated....
rooting the magic 1.6
Hi folks, dito as above. I've been up half the night trying to work this out. Have recently bought an htc magic from vodafone, and been 'updated' to doughnut 1.6. Not bad, but I'm really keen to get root on this, and eventually install the latest rom from cyanogen...
Seems there are now a few issues for people like me wanting to root their handsets... so far I've managed to erase my user settings, but keep getting errors trying to flash a rom. Followed the link above to nk02's thread, and no luck. Same issue, update aborts. There must be an easier way...
nk02 says his ROM works with 'wipe + flash'. How the heck do I do that? Seems this latest update to 1.6 has made all the other methods of gaining root obsolete... I'm far from a linux novice, and would love some advice here. And please don't tell me to keep searching, solid help would be appreciated. Cheers.

[Q] Using app from another device?

Hope this is the right section as I posted this in the Epic 4G General section and had 50 views and no replies lol
"Ok I'm looking to spend free time trying to port apps and widgets to the epic. So are there any threads to instruct and teach me how to get into this Want to "sign"? a widget so I can use it on my epic
So I've tried to search and havent found a post in here or the dev section on how to do this. Can someone please assist me in finding the right place to start?
Thanks
"
That was the question originally
Any help is appreciated.
Is this thread where I need to be looking?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=473580
Thanks again
Bueler?.....Bueler?
I think that you don't need to resign the apk.... just install them..... if they don't work maybe is because they need resource not avaible on phone or different from the original
Thats the thing tried to just install and it fails, tried pushing it to system/app and it doesnt work tried pushing to data/app dont work either argh lol

Help please!! samsung i897 captivate

Hi guys i'm nes on this forum, i'm italian and i have a samsung captivate i897, i also take this opportunity to introduce myself...
Now i expose you the problem:
i have a i897 captivate marked AT&T for this i have a problem to fix the GPS and to install applications outside the market, I would like you to help me to make clean OS from the applications AT & T and put in i897 a i9000 ROM not rooted...please guys help me, and thanks in advance
1. Read the new owners guide.
2. This forum is about learning things by yourself. Don't expect to be spoonfed.
3. Custom ROM always =Rooted mind you.

the new user guide (that i wrote) teaches about stickies! and where to find them!
find the stickies in the captivate general, q&a and dev forums they have all the answers you are looking for and way more.
go. read. learn.
this is really basic stuff. At&t does not like you installing apps not from the market "its called side loading" you need to be rooted to fix it and there are pleanty of guides "one click root has an option to enable non market apps" to get a different rom go to the dev sectoin chose a rom and follow the simple directions or for a guide for the entire process http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884364
Assuming what you meant was that you want ATT's crap taken off and a new ROM...
Why would you not want your device rooted? If voiding your warranty is a concern it's fine, there are plenty of methods to return back to stock Eclair/Froyo. And there really isn't a ROM out there that's head and shoulders over the rest, you're going to have to play around and see which one you like the feel of the best. Try out a different ROM every couple of days and see how you like it.

If you are asking someone to help you build a rom well... I don't think that will happen. You can go to samfirmwares.com and download a stock i9000 rom, but without root you, and if you don't know how to build to incorporate the home button and haptic feedback fixes, your phone won't work right. My suggestion is to go to this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=948790
They are all stock i9000 roms with only busybox and root installed. I'm using the stock jvh on my captivate, at the moment, and it works great. You will have to deal with root. It's better to be rooted anyway.

Only replying to that small part of your post, and correcting you by saying no, you don't need to be rooted to sideload applications. SWM (Sideload Wonder Machine) can do it so long as you have the drivers installed and USB Debugging on. I installed several applications as soon as I got the phone, long before I ever rooted my phone, much less installed a custom ROM on it.
i've been searching this site for days and cannot find any directions on ACTULLY rooting the captivate. I was refered here by many people and still cannot find the simple info on "how to root samsung captivate"

Why didn't you use google? There are plenty of places that explain how to root that aren't on this site, which is more an "advanced" place anyways(I use that term loosely, but I get the idea that people here assume you know a little about your phone).
Check out MobileTechVideos, the guy who does those had a three-part, in-depth ROM flash set of videos that explain exactly how to use One-Click to Root.
Edit:
Christ dude, use some decent punctuation and at least attempt to be succinct in your requests. Freaking out isn't going to get you anywhere.

i have been all over this site searching the words ""how to root samsung captivate"" how can i make my search more simple and direct than that??

Please help. Need to go back to stock evo

Hello everyone,
Can someone please point me to a stock 4.24.651.1 rom? I need to get my phone back to stock. I rooted with unrevoked. I can only find odex or deodex (sorry if wrong) versions. I would like the original unrroted version if it is out there. Please, I have searched and just cant find what I am looking for. Even just a point in the right direction would help as I just can figure this out!!
1st wrong section
2nd you didn't look to hard
3rd - here you go - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=780141
I tried that and followed that video already. I cant find the stock rom that is not rooted and some of the info I found there seemed out of date with a rom that was to old to use according to my phone. Im sorry if this is the wrong section. Im not sure shere to post. I thought this would be the appropriate section since I found a lot of ROM stuff here. I would be happy to post elsewhere if I knew the right place to post.

Keep in mind, if you are rooted, you will lose it. If you install any of the 4.2 ones you wont be able to root it again until they come up with one.
YES!!! Thank you, I believe that is what I need. I really appreciate you pointing me to that site. For some of us who dont get on the threads alot it can be a bit frustrating trying to find the right info. I appreciate your help and not slamming me for asking my question.
Nobody will "slam" you for asking questions but thy will for posting in the wrong section. But it was nice for Chamala to answer your question and let you know it was the wrong section.

Another mirror and a great resource: http://goo-inside.me/supersonic or just http://goo-inside.me if you want to browse all they have to offer.
Also this thread in these very forums: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884060
I don't bother fighting the wrong forums, not searching, etc anymore. It's not worth the effort and XDA mods don't really care anymore, especially with the EVO becoming a budget phone.

[Q] Lag Help

I have an Android I897 Captivate. I just updated to Gingerbread 2.3.5. The phone is rooted. I used OCLF before, but it doesn't work with 2.3.5. Is there another lag fix that I can download for this? Thanks
Please search before opening a new thread. May even help if you looked in your devices section.
