Over in the G2 OTA Discussion thread here on XDA, it has been noted that several people have received an OTA update to their G2's that have come with a WIFI calling app (UMA for Android).
Is anyone else interested in seeing this on their Nexus One?
Thanks!
Abosolutely!
I am VERY loyal tmobile even though my coverage at work is nada. They have great customer service and prices; wi-fi calling would be fab-u-lous!
Living in the middle of nowhere=no signal.
I'd pay for N1 UMA
i had this on my bberry with tmobile a couple years ago.would love to see it again as i still do not have 3g

Installed, made calls over, works great... thanks!
I installed it but doesnt work, at least on the miui rom.
It ran fine but I'm not on T-Mobile. Wish there was a way to spoof carriers!
Funny, I made a thread earlier asking for this. Sadly, I wrapped it in [Suggestion] as opposed to [Req]... I got 150 views and no answers. Glad someone got something though.
It installed fine but keeps saying enabling. Im running the latest cm6 nightly
working fine for me

Here's a quote that might clarify some things:
So here’s the update on yesterday’s reported OTA update to the G2, which brought Wi-Fi calling and mobile hotspot creation to a very small set of users. T-Mobile released this official statement to clarify its position:
“Wi-Fi Calling and tethering Wi-Fi sharing are not currently supported on the T-Mobile G2. T-Mobile knows these features are important to consumers and we’re working to deliver them to G2 users in the future. We have nothing further to announce at this time.”
It’s pretty much what they’ve said before on the subject, and it doesn’t tell us much. It could mean that the update we saw yesterday was just a test and won’t be rolled out to the rest of G2 owners. Or it might be a test sample to see how these features affect data traffic, in order to help T-Mo with pricing. Or maybe they really are rolling it out to everyone and just haven’t put the support feautres, etc. in place yet.

I've seen several posts about the old app from Sprint and have gone to the Sprint website and downloaded the latest version from their txt link that was sent to me. I keep getting the message as shown in the attached shot about not being a Sprint or Nextel Customer and only option is to exit. I know a lot of people are not fans of this app, but I enjoyed the older version and hear this newer version is worth taking a look at.
Anyone having the same issues or know of a solution? I have tried both stock and custom kernals and am running EViO V1.02 at the moment.
Here is the link I used to download from Sprint:
http://sports.sprint.com/football/index.html
I got an error msg saying my device (evo) is not supported.
Sprint only won the contract to ESPN right? so only the games on ESPN can be streamed?
Got the same error message.
I get the same error message and the app came preloaded on my phone. I am stock 2.2. It never worked on stock 2.1 either. WTF?
I had the same problem, but got a working version from another phone that had the 2.2 ota without root on it.
It was working on that phone so I backed up the app, sent it to my evo and installed it. Now works on mine too.
What are the rules about posting the apk here? I'll readup and see if I can post it.
EDIT: Sorry can't post as I assume it is copyrighted by Sprint. Probably why I couldn't find it on the net when I looked for it, just find someone on an unrooted 2.2 OTA. BTW Amco is correct, Sprint no longer has the NFL contract, Verison does. So no more streaming audio or video of NFL in this app. They did add streaming for college football if your into that.

hmmm ....CDMA play probably it...noticed in the background behind the Sprint/Nextel message that it is still trying to load. Gonna try and change it back in the workshop and see if that works.
Edit: Had already done the other several different ways and didn't even find that during a search (thanks for the direction, was nice to see I was actually going about it the right way)...so must be CDMA
Just tried now and it work, lets me download the software and install.

To have a custom banner or a Sprint Football App....thanks for the CDMA path...worked like a charm changing it back to THEIR name..gotta be a way to prevent them from seeing that.

to Change it back in cdma workshop was sprint spelled like this "Sprint" or "SPRINT" and of course without parenthesis

Well that 'banner' is basically used as a way to identify your carrier by the football app. Noticed that when it was choking on mine, because I had changed my banner. Changed it back to Sprint and it opened right up.
I changed my Banner from Sprint and mine is working fine. Maybe it prevents the download from working, but mine is working fine after I got it installed.

It seems to have a problem on the hero too. It's ever since I've had 2.2 I think. Can u pm me the working app, or is that still against the rules?
Yes I am using my Sprint Hero to upload this. Got a problem with it?!
I posted this in two other threads but both got ignored.
As soon as I updated to the 2.3.5, tethering seems to be no longer supported. The option is there, but as soon as I activate the tether, 3G goes away. I have to turn off the tether, then manually switch mobile data off and on just for my 3G to come back.
Is this their way of getting people to finally pay for it?
Yes.. one of the features of the update was removing tether if you were not paying for it. No biggie though... you have a Nexus.. just unlock it and download one of the apps off the market.

Since my phone had none of the reception issues this update was supposed to fix & reading alot of posts saying that it really didn't do much for those issues, I think I'll skip the update prompts & keep my free tethering.

I am a little confused why Google allowed sprint to do this. Whether you you use the tether or not and regardless of how easy it is to get it back it doesn't sit well with me that Sprint is calling the shots with this phone now. One of the major appeals of this phone is the pure Google experience, which is now the partial Google experience. I wonder if this had anything to do with the delay of the OTA, maybe sprint was holding out until google let them kill the tether? Anyways, it doesn't instill a great amount of confidence in google for this phone and future nexus devices. I still like the phone and there is nothing on sprint I would rather have, I'm just a little pissed at how they tucked this into an update that was much anticipated and stripped some of our "pure googleness".
I don't understand this...i dont pay anything extra for tether, and i can still tether on stock 2.3.5. Why are some people unable?
i just flashed the new KE5 radio(found in the ns4g dev section), and im not seeing any issues. still on 2.3.4 tho.. i dont see any reasons to update to 2.3.5 especially if this is a problem. i tether wayyyy too much.

So I have a two day new Nexus S and I did the manual update last night. Now when activating the mobile hotspot the 3g or 4g icons go away and it does not have connectivity anymore.
Now, I have read conflicting info about whether this is happening just to those who did the manual update and if you did OTA it still works. Can anyone confirm this?
If that is the case, then I need to return this one and get another and just be more patient next time to get the update officially OTA. =)
Not that I am tremendously worried about the tethering/hotspot being free, but I am uneasy that doing this manually may have screwed things up in as of yet other unknown ways. Like if I do pay for hotspot/tethering someday it might still not work right, etc.
Thanks!

Did you manually update or did you wait for it to be pushed to your phone? I'm stock and wasn't rooted and I manually updated and my tethering both usb and wifi hotspots are not working.
Also I notice in the kernel version that it's longer than when I was on 2.3.4 mine says 2.6.35.7-g3cc95e3 [email protected] #1
Is that normal?

HTC has delivered a ROM to us however it is still having issues the reason that other sensation types have the update without issue and ours did not come out that way is because every ROM must be adapted to the hardware of the device because we use a different radio than other providers and also have applications such as wifi calling it also has to be compatible with those. What the HTC rep told you is most likely correct because once a ROM is delivered we have 2 weeks to test it and then approve it or send it back they then have 4 weeks to fix the bugs and return it back to us, where we are exactly in that process I do not know but that is how a ROM is delivered to the customer.
The original ROM was not delivered to us in November, we started testing it just recently but I think it has been longer than 2 weeks so at this point HTC most likely has the ball.
You bought a phone and it has been announced that you are getting ICS you have every right to know what’s going on with it and when you can see these awesome features. I did go into a lot of detail about how a ROM gets to the end user (you guys) but that wasn’t to point fingers only so you would have a better understanding of why you don’t have it yet, the bottom line is the Sensation has T-Mobile’s and HTC’s name all over it and both companies want to make you proud to be a Sensation owner so we are working as fast as we can to deliver it but also want to make sure that it stands up to your expectations.

A fairly meaty update that helps explain the process, the holdup and a possible time frame for when we might see the release.
So T-Mobile can't get their WiFi Calling and other bloatware to work, but our custom ROM chefs don't seem to have a problem?

It seems that HTC can't get the Wifi calling to work within spec. It didn't work the first time and TMO told HTC that they needed to work on it some more. It's going back and forth between TMO and HTC.
And no offense to our devs here, but lets be realistic. Our roms here aren't without their issues. Ie. wifi calling still crashing, mms not working, proximity sensor issues, wifi issues, bt issues, etc. but the positive is that the roms here get better than their respective base.

Now I don't think that's fair our devs don't have the resources tmob has and we are ahead of them with 4.0 almost working and got 60 3.6 roms out there if one dev had what HTC had or tmobl we be in next stage ics 4.0 is far from last Rom this phone will do

I don't think it's fair that the devs don't have access to the same resources that tmo and htc have either. If they did we would probably also have perfect 'native' ports of Samsung's, Sony's, and Moto's UIs, lol. it is what it is. the devs have improved on what's been released (although, I would like to see a rom that emphasizes stability instead of tweaks - Maybe I'll take a crack at it if I can find enough time, we'll see).
As far as free help is concerned... I don't know how much work they actually take off XDA (although, i'm sure it's happened, i feel like it's little). The X10 (in which I had a little previous experience) had a number of things fixed that's never (and never will be) fixed in any official rom.
but the original point was to contradict this statement: "our custom ROM chefs don't seem to have a problem" and "So T-Mobile can't get their WiFi Calling and ...". There are issues and it's not just TMO but HTC can't fix wifi calling in a timely manner. Just trying to dispel inaccuracies (IMHO).
I would rather have a clean ROM straight from HTC without T-Mobile adding junk to it anyway, including WiFi calling...
Well what it is that tmobl locked the phone up so it can't use att making HTC redo there **** its out everywhere but here in us
Looks like a corp had a hand trying to block the progress of something with hardware changes and bloatware I would love a Rom from HRC or google with out tmob trash but I am not on tmob now so I have no bloat lol

I'm using bluetooth, video recording, wifi, wifi calling, all cell radio features, proximity working find, light sensor as well.
I don't mms. I gmail.
So. The devs and chefs are doing a FANTASTIC job, especially with these kernels.
Just like i tell everyone in every single rom forum for the sensation. T-Mobile's Wifi calling is just useless bloatware that is a program easy as hell for, supposed amazing techs of their caliber to make and now we have to wait for official Ics due to an app that don't work stock or rooted. Everytime i use wifi calling, and yes on stock, all i get is" HUH,WHAT DID YOU SAY, I CANT HEAR YOU",. And thats why it also rarely works in roms. It's not HTC's fault T-Mobile has a shi%$ program that is useless out the box. Wouldn't be useless if it ever worked. And now we have to wait for Ics because of it.

^ Likewise I depend on wifi calling. I'll pass on the other bloatware, but this isn't an optional app for me. I'm afraid that I've had no consistent luck with the ROMs available here.
I suspect that will change once T-Mobile has released their ICS update with a working configuration and (possibly) an updated app. In the meantime, I am content to wait.
It's based on my opinion.**

WiFi calling is not bloatware to people who use it. I use it everyday at home. There's no way I can make or receive call without it. I also use it every time I'm overseas. For me, WiFi calling is a must. That's why I don't dare play around different roms for fear of messing up the WiFi calling feature. I can also wait for the official update with a working WiFi calling.

Not to be too much of a ****, but HLMGTFY (wifi tethering fcc) - first link: <from CNET, but I can't embed links yet>. But anyway, while the rulling dosen't say anything about Sprint, it does show how the wind blows. Although I wasn't trying to be too serious with that statement, that's the genesis of it.
So no one still uses TrevE's WIFI tether, or are there just too few that have root so far?

Well, I know it might not be common, but I did. The stuff in the Play Store mostly seems like a wrapper for the installed tether app.
Here's what I've done so far that is pertenant- obtained my device. installed and removed several free Play Store apps dealing with tethering via wifi, backed up then rooted my phone, changed settings to accept unauth sources for installs, then went to my standby and installed TrevE's wifi tether from apk. Similar to initial issues with the G4 and G3 it craps out, reported error says log generated, but no log available (maybe just a perms issue?). Googled around a bunch and searched around xda-devs with no direct help found. Decided to post on my favorite Android development forum for the first time since the G3 came out.
I haven't tried looking at the TrevE source yet, mainly due to lazyness and my inate hatred of duplicating others' good work. That is the plan for the weak - along with looking at the wifi-LTE aggregation issue - but I mainly wanted to know if others had gotten that far with wifi tethering before I started donating my time hacking together something that might have already been hacked.
Clear as mud?

As for the Tether, It doens't work with newer phones yet. I haven't seen any updates for a long time. If you can find another program that works it'll be cool. Else, just wait for a Rom with a native tether to be available.
WiFi Tether Router - not working with my Sprint S5 Rooted phone. Any ideas, I have even went out the apps website and changed all the settings suggested on it.

Actually I did get Fabio's WiFi Tether Router working (thx went to musclehead84 for the first suggestion) on mine - somewhat. I still have an issue with it not completely unloading, and have to reboot the phone after I'm done with it, but haven't tried to tweak it yet either. Well worth the $2.5 IMO.
After re-finding TrevE's thread I came to the same conclusion as others - not in active development anymore. Too bad, I'm a real fan of lightweight apps that do what they claim and are free!

How did you get it to work? What are your settings. I have a Sprint s5 and tried everything to make it work but nothing.

Mine worked in "auto" mode, but I later switched to "Method 3" following the suggestions here - https://sites.google.com/site/wifitetherrouter/home/device-configuration
Also folks seem to be having good luck talking with Fabio the developer. INstructions to contact are on that page also.
Yea i used the same settings. I disconnected from my wifi and then turned on wifi. Then when i enable wifi it turns it off and i have to manually change again to wifi. Cant get it to work

Is it just for rooted phones?
Native hotspot fix ftw.
So has anyone figured out how to unlock the software restrictions to make the shield tablet LTE usable as a phone?
I want to buy it but I would like to have the option to use it as a phone in an emergency if something happens to my phone. I am an international buyer but i would have to import it to my country regardless what version I get since it is not sold here, and the EU version happens to be for 450 USD (I would rather get a controller or a cover with the extra cash) .

i have lot of these bugs.. even in maxthon browser etc.. we must wait for their updated versions though.
I am sorry... but what bugs? I am not talking about any bugs here.
Its a software restricted feature of the shield tablet in the US.

I used hangouts and the hangouts dialer APP and it works for me. Slight lag in voice but works on WiFi OR LTE sim card.

Yeah I mean we could always use skype or hangouts, but if that's the only way, I might as well get the wifi version then (wifi is pretty much everywhere u go)
I thought by now someone would have figured out a hack or something lol
oh well ... how is it as a tablet btw? do you have any complaint regarding it?

Yeah but the point of getting the LTE version is so you have data when you need it, so you might be able to rely on your data coverage to make calls. That and the boost in storage.

Meh, to me the LTE is useless if not to make calls with (in case something goes wrong with your phone) I mean there is free wifi everywhere I plan to take it with me... Airports, Hotels, most shopping malls, Coffee shops, friends house, the office... every single place I can think of that I would have my tablet with me in would have free wifi
The only thing thats going for it and I fully agree with you on that, is the extra storage... kind of a D move from Nvidia if you ask me... they should have and option for same storage for wifi version as well.

I have none !! I guess I got lucky cause I have none of the issues with battery, wifi, data, cracks, etc. that alot of those on here and the nvidia forum have complained about----> https://forums.geforce.com/default/board/150/shield-tablet/
I'm rooted and still on 4.4.2 and don't expect to go to 5.0 or 5.1 anytime soon. Too many horror stories I don't want to experiance. If and when the bugs are ironed out, maybe.
I've not heard of any success stories using the Shield Tablet as a device with LTE + Voice Calling.
I did have limited success when flashing the wx_un_mo 1.2 ROM.
I now have a working SIM from my provider, but have not yet tried re-flashing that ROM due to time and family constraints. I've been hoping to get back to it and try again.

I think most people were fine (in terms of software) until they installed Lollipop. I'd stay with 4.4.2. If the next update doesn't fix all my lagging, locking and rebooting, I'm either going to downgrade or get rid if this tablet. Too bad, because I bought both the cover and the controller. Although there is a rumor that Nvidia has already lined up the next version of the tablet with the new processor in it... could be tempting...
