When I manually try to check for updates on my Captivate I get an AT&T server connection error. This did not start until recently. Anyone have the same issue?
Yes ever since I loaded the update.

Great. Not even going to ask how we get 2.2 when it is released if we're unable to connect to the server.

As large as it is going to be I would say they will have multiple sites available..or just what till Samsung has it on their site and download it.

Yep. One day it works, the next it doesn't. I thought it was because I flashed to 2.2 but I went back to JH7 and still the same.

I'm afraid something in the update caused a problem. Not sure though.

I'm thinking that AT&T took the servers down because of all the charcoal (bricks) the last OTA caused.
try this solution if still having issues..worked for me:
Got to "Settings", "Applications", "Manage applications". When in "Manage applications", hit the menu key and select "filter". Once in "filter" mode select all. Now look for "Device management" and access it. When in "Device management" hit "Clear data".
Now you will need to reboot the phone. Once the phone reboots, wait a couple minutes and check for updates. If you just recently checked, go in date and time and change the date to a day ahead. This will bypass the ATT 24hr check.

What happens when you guys go to "Settings" -> "Software update"?
Is there always a "Resume update" option?
When I click it, it always says "no firmware". I also didn't think I had any update to resume.
Also when I click "Check for update" I generally get "cannot communicate with server" or some weird message. Then I can't check again for 24 hours. Is there a way to get around the 24 hour limit?
i am having the same problem with my device.

From my understanding, the "Resume Update" would be used if you postpone the update.
Also, to get around the 24 hour limit, you can change your clock 1 day ahead, however if it fails, it'll be 24 hours from tomorrow, and so on, and so on.
I get the same thing. Its probably because I'm rooted.

Heres what you do to go around the 24 hour limit:
Settings > Applications > Manage Applications. Tap Menu > Filter. Select Running. Then Select Device Management, Press Clear Data. Reboot Phone. You should be able to check for an update again.
Ive also been having the same problem. When i select Check Update, it says fail to connect with AT&T Server. I chatted with AT&T Tech Support and heres what they said:
Welcome to AT&T Total Care Chat. My name is 'Sara ' and I’ll be happy to assist you today.
[Verification of Account]
Sara : Did you receive a text message or an e-mail before your tried to download this software update?
Me: I did not receive a text message or an update. However before i got a replacement phone, my original Captivate downloaded the update fine.
Me: I meant i did not receive a text message or an email.
Sara : I am sorry and do apologize. We wwere told by Samsung that they are releasing this software by the IMEI of the phones and a text message or e-mail will be sent to your phone when your IMEI is ready for you to be able to download this software up.
Sara : Then you will be able to go the Samsung's web site to do this.
Me: Ive already tried hard reset and factory reset but it still does not fix the problem. This has been happening for teh past few days since i got my replacement phone.
Me: I did not get a text message for my original phone, however i could still download teh update. and the update has been released for a while.
Me: As i recall, the update has been released since Sep 23.
Me: I understand Samsung is releasing software by IMEI, but it has been about 2-3 months since the update. And as far as i know, this has been happening to only replacement phones.
Sara : We were told on Tuesday by a Samsung representative that the software was being released in waves by the IMEI of the phones and would not be available to download until your phone received noticfication.
Sara : I am sorry, if you have done a hard shock and master reset on your phone and your phone is still not working then I would suggest that you go into a retail store for hands on assistance.
Sara : What is your zip code and I will be happy to locate a store for you?
Me: I understand. Is there an estimated date when all phones will get updates?
Me: I know there is a store near me, Its okay.
Me: The reason i am having difficulty grasping your explanation is because my original phone never got a message or i never got sent an email, however i could still update.
Sara : I am sorry, we do not have an estimated *date when all phones will get updates, only Samsung would have this information.
Sara : Samsung- The number for Samsung is 1-888-987-HELP(4357) , 7AM - 9PM Central (Monday through Friday), 9AM - 6PM Central (Saturday).
Sara : I understand, and that is why one of our agent here contacted Samsung and this is what we were told.
Me: Okay, thanks for the information. I appreciate your help.
Sara : We are not the phone manufacturers and do not issue software upgrades to the phones.
Sara : You are welcome, do you have any more questions?
Me: No, thats it. Thank You.

Preface: Yes, I've read a bunch of the other threads on this forum about this problem, but I've tried all the advice I've seen and this *still* isn't working.
So, I bought the Widgetlocker Lockscreen app from Market, and paid for it on my credit card. In Market, in 'My apps', it lists Widgetlocker Lockscreen, with 'Purchased' next to it. All the other (free) apps I have successfully downloaded and installed are listed there with 'Installed' next to them.
When I touch Widgetlocker Lockscreen, I get the Personalization screen. I press the 'Purchased' button, then the 'OK' button. This should cause the app to be downloaded and installed. When I press it, a message flashes up saying 'Your item will be downloaded.' Quite soon, in the notifications area, I see a progress bar with the text 'WidgetLocker Lockscreen' below, but this progress bar quickly disappears, apparently without the download having taken place. Just before it disappears, I see the text 'Download unsuccessful' for a split second below the progress bar. The app doesn't appear to be installed and is still listed as 'Purchased' rather than 'Installed' in the 'My apps' section.
I can still install other apps OK; I tried installing some free ones and they install fine. I tried clearing Market's cache (the clear data button is greyed out). I tried unmounting/mounting the SD card. I tried rebooting the phone. This problem still occurs.
Anyone have any idea what else I could do? This is still running on the stock firmware; I haven't rooted it or anything.
UPDATE: I retried the download & install a few days later and... it just worked! Glad I didn't perform a factory reset!
The moral seems to be that sometimes, Android Market screws up on Google's end and they forbid you to download certain apps. This is sucky, but it's not going to be fixed by your doing anything on your phone.
Have you tried downloading it on 2G mode, 3G mode, and WiFi mode? Failing all three, try installing it using the Android Market website on your PC.

Like GSM (E/G) and WCDMA (3G/H) and WiFi. Sometimes I find if a download doesn't work on 3G mode, I flip it over to GSM and it works, or WiFi etc. If not, since you just bought it, can you not refund the app and try from scratch?

Does nobody have any idea how to solve this (or at least diagnose why on Earth the download is failing?!) I'm going to withhold payment for this app on my credit card if Google don't sort it out.

Before any resets try this;
Go into settings, then manage applications, then find the Market app on the list. Open it, force stop it, then clear cache, then clear data.
Go back to the marketplace. You'll have to accept the terms and conditions again, but see if that helps.

I'm guessing that you've re-started your device? EDIT: just re-read post #1
If advice from @wnp_79 above doesn't work...then
factory reset? - is unfortunately the next step as the Market is linked to your Google account which can only be removed and then re-added via a factory reset.

there may well be but i don't know it...I'm afraid.
How about installing appbrain application and installing that and then try downloading the problem application through that...all though I suspect that it will use the same mechanism....but worth a try.
Google have come back to me and told me to do a factory reset as well. This is infuriating, and I really don't want to do it because of a bug in ONE application - Google Market. It's not like there's widespread filesystem corruption or something, which in my mind would justify a factory reset.
I did some more investigation and installed (successfully! other apps install successfully!) the 'aLogcat' app. This gave me quite a bit of useful debug info when I tried to install Widgetlocker Lockscreen. I have the output saved to my SD card and will paste here when I get home from work, but basically it's very similar to the output listed here:
http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Android%20Market/thread?tid=0ffa4f4e6cedcfb8&hl=en
Seems like I'm not the only one having this problem. That was posted in 2010. Now seriously guys, are we still talking about a factory reset for a somewhat common bug in Android Market that has been known about for quite some time? I want to try and figure out what's going wrong here and FIX it instead. It looks like h ttps://android.clients.google.com/market/download/... is returning a 403 forbidden, which causes the main Android UI to display 'download unsuccessful'. Why is the download being forbidden?

Try restart your phone. Maybe, that you have new market update waiting for installation.

Just go back into cheesecake and change the server to the Production server. That's the server where official OTA's come out.
wow its really that easy? trying it now
what is the default master cloud called its not changing
IT should be listed under "production". What does it say when you try to change it?
it says this should be good but then when i check to see what master cloud im on it still says master-qa4.blurdev.com

As long as you select production you should be fine. Production is the server that the OTA updates are released on.
I noticed that it always says that that is the current cloud. Don't stress about it too much.

Just say yes and let the phone set up a new sync account with Motorola. If the original one got unlinked there is not much else you can do. Every time you factory reset you also have to set up a new account. Once you do that everything should resync with the passwords for social networks already in your phone.

Tried to root for GB2.3.6, failed. It was several months ago.
Then I downloaded OTA ICS and installed yesterday, now I can see "Developer options".
Weird, I didn't do anything before/after ICS update.
After that, I can't find "Call setting" anymore. For example, whether to use the carrier or Google Voice for voice message.
Did I do something wrong, or that's how ICS works?
Thanks a lot.

Yes, that's exactly what I was looking for.
ICS seems quite different from GB.
One more question: After update of ICS, my phone can't recognize my SD card well. I can't take a look at my old photos taken by the camera, or play music inside. But sometimes it can, most of the time, after rebooting.

Regarding your inability to view the old photos.. i had a similar issue with ICS OTA.. it used to hang while accessing the gallery..
Resolved it by deleting the folder containing all the thumbnails of the photos...used xplore... Next time i used the gallery, the thumbnails were recreated and then i had no issues...

Hello,
Long time lurker, first time poster, so forgive me in advance for any rules I've overlooked. I'll start by saying I am the legitimate owner of the phone. I have searched all over for information regarding FRP bypass for this particular phone and version, but have come up with nothing. I believe I found a method that gets me halfway to the goal, but I'm stuck at a particular point. Let me quickly go through what I've done so far;
1) After factory reset, from the main setup screen, go into accessibility.
2) At the bottom, click Switch Access.
3) Enable Switch Access, and then click settings in the lower right.
4)At the bottom, click Assign Keys to Actions
5) At the bottom, assign a key press to overview. I use volume down.
6) Back out to the device setup home screen.
7) Click through until you reach the network selection screen.
8) You will need to connect to a network that requires sign-in through a browser. The xfinity hotspots work the best.
9) Once connected to xfinity, the phone will auto open Chrome.
10) Use a free trial for xfinity hotspot, or log in with your comcast credentials.
11) Search google for "google maps", and find the result for google maps.
12) when you click on the google maps link, it will open a menu asking you to choose either chrome or the maps app.
13) select the maps app, and do a search for a random business that has a phone number.
14) Once the business info comes up, click call.
15) This will open the phone app. From there, go into the settings, and click on sound settings.
16) Voila! This brings you to the settings menu.
Now, my issue. It seems there is no way (or no option at least) to do a soft system restore from within the operating system. Now, I have tried disabling various apps, and stopping various proccesses in order to remove whatever process is responsible for the FRP notice, but to no avail. Ive even rooted the device and uninstalled anything I could think might be the culprit.
What do we do next folks??
Halp!
Thanks.:good:
I had this happen to me earlier and used this method. www(dot)youtube(dot)com/watch?v=b7xlXPDBxmY Just go download the file over at his blog. Put the phone in download mode and pick option #2. His phone reboots automatically in the video. Mine didn't, but I just powered it off and back on. I then had the option to skip past the the email portion.
just unplug ur router exactly when the phone says checking for updates and it'll let you skip the whole Google account thing. but you have to do it at the perfect time. took me 5 or 6 tries but it worked[emoji56]

easy peasy
Look I nuked my phone I'm typing on a tripped out barcode scanner. I used lg backup to get through on my stylo. After the reset try and connect to a generic WiFi and then do a screen shot and share it via email that will get you on the web and then you should be able to search for and open up the settings app by choosing manage accounts while in the browser. Once your in settings clear all data on every app that says Google. But if you clear setup wizard you should be good. Then you should be able to restart as a new device
Try disabling the Set Up Wizard

what's the trick?
No matter what you do if you can use any method to access the settings app/page from there you can go into the apps section and just disable the setup wizard and you'll get into the phone.
Ive been working on this for hours it feels like, last time i bypassed in ten minutes (different phone). Wont allow me to disable setup wizard or google play services, what options are there? Everything i have tried they have blocked ...
