Hey everyone,
I got a little ancy waiting for a official G2 dock so I decided to rig my own.
Total cost was about 10$ The most expensive part being a old hd2 dock I bought from Hong Kong for the wiring and adapter.
Now this is still unfinished but it is functional for syncing and charging simultaneously.
So I figured I would share my cheesy work.
(Version 1 Pics deleted due to age)
Ok, So I decided to use a saw and take a little more time.
Here is version 2.0

I am now done with this prototype. Just did a quick finish with some hammertone paint and sticky foam.
Time to move on to a better lower profile design.
its a droid dock! made out of popsicle sticks. wonder if G2 can fit inside a blackberry torch dock. seem about the same size.
pretty sick dude
Now that's awesome and ingenius

Nice job, I like it! I have a HD2 dock I no longer use ...Hmmmm time to get to work!
One question, is the charging cord well mounted in there? I sometimes struggle plugging my phone in and it seems like the tip will just break if I try to push it in any more.

Yes, its solid. What I did was loosely placed the connector in the dock and plugged in the phone. Once I had the proper angle, I hot glued the cable while still having the phone connected. Then after it hardened it stayed in perfect placement.
Plexiglass with green lighting inside.... oooooo.. reminds me of modding my old computer towers

Just did a little wood filling, sanded and put the 1st coat of hammer tone paint on it. I acutally have no wood skills at all
But this has been a fun project.

hahah awesome work! Bring it over to my work and we'll carbon fiber that sucker haha
very slick work. I wonder how long it will take HTC or T-Mobile to come up with their own model??? Too bad the G2 doesn't have the brass pins like the Nexus One has for very easy docking. Nexus One figured this out over 9 months ago, why not put this in the G2? I have both phones and the dock is a must. Come on T-Mobile, the G2 needs accessories and the dock is at the top of the list.
Seems like a modified battery door cover could be added to add the contacts for the battery. Not so easy for the microusb.

Awesome. I might get one, use this in the empty space created by the new battery panel and use the older battery. Cheap 32GB SD card (BTW: SD cards are ALWAYS cheaper then MicroSD cards and higher speeds )
that looks so much better than those ugly backpacks they had for the g1. I may actually purchase one of these.
when and where can we get these?

Mmmm, imagine that with a built in micro->sd adapter and sim switcher, that would be a _useful_ bit of kit
Really doesn't look that bad for all that extra bat power...
if only it still fit in the desktop dock...
Great find! just finished placing my order. Will compare it with my G1 phone size when my product arrives.
I just ordered one as well.
I'll post my findings and pics once I receive it.
Now all I have to do is find a case for it.
Too bad I already got the Innocase
With that backpack, It's not only that the case won't fit. I won't need a case at all. It will protect the back with the new back cover. The unprotected parts of my phone with that new cover would just be mostly metal and the screen.
Does this still allow you to use the desktop dock? or will I have to take out the extended battery.. put in the old battery and then dock it up?
Post lots of pictures for the rest of us that are still on the fence please!
yo
can u please give me a link where i can buy that sd corverter.. thanks in advance

It works with their dock.
I'm not sure about the factory dock.
It won't work with the factory dock. ANY kind of case won't allow you to fit into the factory dock. There is zero room for additional padding.
I ended up putting my dock behind my dash in my car and just using it as a bluetooth receiver until A2DP works with the BlueStar module (Bluetooth Onstar replacement)
confirmed shipping 2 day. Double the battery power, can't wait. I aint had a phone last me the whole day wit out charging or changing the battery since my first gen razr
I think mine comes in tomorrow. I'll post pics once I get it.
It all depends if signature is required.
Mine arrived yesterday, only had a chance to do a charge last night, will take a closer look tonight.
First impressions are really about the replacement back cover:
It would reasonably easily unlatch and fall off from a bump or a short fall, which means the battery could, in turn, also fall out.
Unlike the original cover, there's no clear window over the camera or flash LED, which means dust/liquid splashes etc get in the holes a lot easier.
I'll have a closer look tonight, the microsd => sd reverse adapter might be a winner for the space in the back cover.
Hey
I was wondering for a recommendation for a HTC Desire Z desktop dock with a AC adapter to use it as a clock and also free up the USB cable that came with the Desire Z. I perfer official but I dont think there is any for the Desire Z, only the G2.
Thanks
Desire Z and G2 are the same thing.

This is exactly what I did. Though, once the lights are out its surprising how much light still gets through even that. Granted its barely noticeable but just shows how bright the damn thing is.
I have that dock, it's so messy to attach the phone that I stopped using it - scared of damaging the USB port.
This is the "Official" one from T-Mobile. I love it. Works great as a daily alarm clock. Matches great with the phone.

Just get Spider podium bend it the way you like, and use the cable that came whit the phone to dock, since this is just a phone stand. And since you need a micro-usb cable for smth, just crab one from a local store for couple bucks.
http://www.breffo.com/product-information/product-info/
And here is my Spiderpodium: https://www.dropbox.com/gallery/11374881/1/Spiderpodium?h=d7c0f4
Best part, works whit every phone out there. so when you get a new phone, this is compatible whit it.
Rubber coating is great, and crabs on nicely. You could use this to mount your phone to bike, at least that's what they say, and it really is so firm that it would probably hold just fine. tough @ first glance it totally looks like its not going to hold it that well.
ust purchased a G2, waiting for it to arrive, but I always look around for accessories and gadgets. Those official T-mo ones are on ebay for decent price. Have some Hk knock-offs for cheaper as well.
I've got the cradle charger that was shown earlier on ebay earlier. It's also on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/GSI-Quality-Desktop-Charger-Data-Sync/dp/B004H6N7XA/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top
It worked great except for the problem with plugging it in every night. There are no guides to help aligning the USB plug. I have to fiddle with it for a little while before it seats. This has done some very minor damage to the usb port over a year.
I upgraded to an extended Seideo Innocell 3500MAh and now the phone can not dock in the cradle. Also the 2nd battery charger can not accomodate the extended size battery.
Docking this phone is an absolute nightmare. Had a car holder for mine. Took some nerves the first couple of times to fit it.
Has anyone recently bought the genuine T mobile dock show in this thread? Tried eBay, Amazon and google but just get many knockoff versions - any help appreciated thanks.
The one mentioned in this thread is kind of clumsy as you all say.
The spider one not only looks weird but not sure if it can do landscape.

Thanks, but I think the genuine one is exactly the right size so should be easy to use. The knockoff ones don't appear to have any guide so the lining up the phone with the power jack is guesswork. I think the genuine one should work fine.

I love my AT&T One X, and it's pretty big without a good spot to go in my 330i where it can charge and not be in the way of shifting. I also really want a car dock to make use of the car mode/google nav. AT&T isn't getting $60 for their version from me either
on Android Central someone mentioned the Evo 4G LTE dock at Sprint stores works for their HOX, so I checked it out. It's built by iBolt, and looks very similar to the one being posted in this forum.
You get the dock, windshield mount, dash sticker, no cable or charger.

Car mode fires right up, and it shuts off when you take it out. Fits great!
Top clip fits like it was made for it, the Evo must have the same profile on the side.
This piece slides out so you can use a phone with a case in it.
With the PT case/holster from Worst Buy, it sits a little high on the micro usb plug, and tilts down towards the right, so you should be able to use an even larger case in it like the otterbox or ballistic.
https://pael7a.sn2.livefilestore.co...0oQIUjhZ5zo9eqKjUeamlXHF/WP_000117.jpg?psid=1
Similar fit on the top again, definitely usable!
Impressions:
I have a Case-mate barely there shipping from Amazon that should arrive on monday, i'll try to grab a few photos when it shows up. The only real issues are the small Sprint logo on the front, and the fact it may not sit flat with some cases. If I was planning on using the same case all the time, I might put a piece of rubber in there to flatten it out and relieve some stress on the plug. It's a little chunkier than I'd like, but it'll do.
Thank you just bought it today from sprint shop.

I'll give it a try tomorrow, i've got an older Garmin GPS (Nuvi 200 or 205).
Also, this seems to be corporate only stores at this point. The first store I called was actually a reseller, didn't carry it, and told me to check out a corporate store.

Assuming that http://www.amazon.com/Sinjimoru-Charge-Samsung-Galaxy-Verizon/dp/B005NJ6EPI would be it.
I need something with speakers
Looks like the thing would easily tip over... any comments? Can you actually use the phone while it is docked, or does it just tip over?
Looks like most of the amazon reviews say its too lightweight...

guys I just wanted to chime in to this, I have owned this dock and the build quality is absolute junk. Its made in china major plastic piece of crap that feels like it will fall apart every time you dock ur phone.

Seems like that's exactly why they released the aluminum version, it's supposed to be quite a bit larger and heavier. Still it's a lot for a dock to me, I just use the type that has a sticky gel pad on the front that run for less than $10, combined with some kind of glossy or crystal clear case on my device. Plus side is it keeps the devices "up in the air", so that cables can be plugged into the bottom still.
Ok after seeing the most reviews say that it's pretty much a cheaply made dock, I have an alternative. Although a bit pricey, I can attest to it's quality. I have the Sensation docks, both landscape and portrait. And if the GS3 docks can be used then I recommend this guy's USA made docks out of aluminium. For $68 bux. I can say its worth every penny. I know it's a bit to pay for a dock, but this guy hand makes each dock and you can tell the quality. Looks like you can use the dock with any tpu case you can throw at it lol.
Support made in the USA guys!

I have this dock (picked one up for $5 off Ebay). It is very lightweight and tips over VERY easily. Also, it will not work if you have the bumper because the USB connector won't go far enough in. I bought one of these for my daughters phone too and it broke in just a couple months.
I've owned my TF700 for about two months now, and as I am coming from the Mortorola Xoom the one accessory I've really been missing is the standard charging dock. Not a fan of having to fumble around with the cable and connector every time I want to charge my tablet.
So being on Christmas break I sat down today to make my own charging dock; total cost for this project ran about $14 (Cdn). Here is a list of materials used;
1mm Plasticard stock;
Spare 40cm Asus charging cable;
10x hex bolts;
Spray paint;
Hot glue gun; and
Hobby knife.
Onto the build... I only starting taking pics after I had already gotten the basic frame together;

Here is the first test fit of the tablet in the dock;
The charging connector test fit into the dock;
Then a close up of the frame I built around the connector to hold it in place;
Next the connector was secured to the internal dock frame with a large quantity of hot glue to ensure it could withstand repeatedly attaching and detaching from the tablet;
And then the rest of the shell was completed for the dock;
The dock is now in working order, but tomorrow will bring final sanding, filling a few small imperfections and then painting. I'll update this thread with finished photos.
nice job!
Finished dock;
very nice!!!!

No, I used a liquid cement that is made for use with plasticard, it's the kind you brush on and dries within about 15 seconds. The hot glue was used to secure the charging cable connector and the steel nuts i used to add weight to the dock.
Looks good.. nice job.
