X10 MicroSD Card Icons (2.1 only) - XPERIA X10 Themes and Apps

I made one of these for my MicroSD card 'cause I'm nerdy like that
Thought some of you might like them too.
Only working with Android 2.1 and below.

You can change the name you want displayed under your icon by opening autorun.inf in any text editor and changing the 'label=' value.
You may have issues viewing the icon or renaming the drive if you don't unmount then remount after first 'install'.
If you want to install both of these (at separate times, of course) I highly recommend that you rename the 'icon' and 'label' values in autorun.inf as well as the .ico file or you may get a black icon where a white should be or vice versa.

Thanks, looks great!

Good Idea, thank you for sharing.

I tried to make it noob-proof, so bear with me, advanced users
Download one of the attached .zip files
Attach your X10 to the computer and mount the sd card from the pulldown menu on your phone and open to the root
Unzip the contents of your .zip file to the root of your MicroSD (2 files)
Choose to safely remove the MicroSD {ie PHONE CARD (F: )} on your computer then unmount it from the pulldown menu on your phone
Done. The next time you mount the sd to the computer it will have a custom name and icon.

I found the original .png's on the internet and just converted them to icons (less time/work). If anyone has time to make some other icons or has some already made, feel free to post!

This is SO not noob friendly
I download the zip file (by default goes to sdcard/downloads)
I attached my phone to my comp and mounted my sdcard, I think....I selected "turn on usb storage" is that mounting my sdcard?
Here's where I get lost, you said "and open to the root"....please clarify.
First problem is I don't have any option that says "mount sdcard" in the pull down menu once you connect the phone to the pc, when I pull down that menu it says "USB Debugging connected" and "USB connected, select to copoy files to/from your computer." When I select that option, the contents of my sdcard automatically pop up in a window on my pc, I can't get to the root of my sdcard on my comp. Opening Root Explorer and trying to access my sdcard results in an error that says "sdcard is not currently mounted" and won't allow access. I then went to settings/storage to see if I could mount my sdcard that way but the option was greyed out, it was as if I didn't even have an sdcard in my phone as none of the other sdcard info was populated either.
I then ejected my device from my pc and turned off usb storage, went back to settings/storage, and my sdcard was recognized and the "unmount sdcard" option was active, making me think that when the phone recognizes my sdcard, that means it's mounted. Also making me think that in your directions you mean "turn on usb storage" not "mount sdcard".
How do you gain root access via PC? The best I could do was see everything stored on the sdcard.
When you unzip the zip, you have a folder that contains the 2 files, are we supposed to copy/paste those files somewhere or can we just put the whole folder where it needs to be?
Please advise

Give it up guys, these icons will not work on GB, since for security reasons Android deletes all autorun.inf files from SD card each time it is mounted. I've tried many options, like making it readonly, system etc., still no luck - file gets deleted.

Wow. I'm an idiot lol.
I never mount my card to PC anymore, I just push things to my card with adb/X10Mod Tool or throw it in Dropbox. Sorry for the runaround.

My phone's rooted, but I can't get a rom installed?

I've done tons of research... I just can't seem to get cm7 on my phone. I believe when they say put it in the "root of the SD card" it means don't put it in any folder on your SD card. So you know how right when you plug in your card a window pops up to the main directory? Open that and put the files there. Like for instance in this image

you see all the folders and stuff on your removable storage, put the file here in this directory.
You aren't suppose to unzip those files at all (I did the same mistake too when I first started flashing lol). You suppose to leave them in the zip form, put them in the main directory hopefully they should pop up. If all else fails ask the developer personally and what you're doing wrong, and give clear instruction on what you did. Hope this helps

It means to simply place the file on your SD card (not in any folder). They need to be .zip files. If you have a different file extension, just change it to ".zip". Never extract the ROMs when sending them to be flashed. Only do that if you know what you're doing (e.g. removing apps to free up space, etc.).
This guy needs to learn A LOT before flashing a ROM. If he doesn't even know what the root of the SD card is, he has no business in rooting an Android device.

be careful bro!, you might end up bricking your phone!, read more!
bro try to have a clear idea before go for flashing...this l help you to produce some confidence on you.:good::good::good::good::good::good:
1. Paste the zip file of the ROM in the root folder of your SD card
2. Boot into Clockword Mod
3. Select install from zip
4. It should be done in 2 minutes.
If you don't have Clockwork Mod installed, follow a flashboot or fastboot guide. The Cyanogenmod wiki is quite good at this.

Unable to reset or refresh Surface RT

Greetings all,
When trying to reset or refresh my Surface RT, I receive the following error:
Could not find the files needed
If you have a Windows installation or recovery media, insert it and restart the PC from the media.
Obviously, the Surface RT comes with no such media, so I'm unsure what to do. I think there was a way to fix this error on Windows 8 by moving the install.wim file over and doing some command line entries, but given I can't find an install.wim for RT, that doesn't seem to be possible.
I can confirm that per Disk Management, the recovery partition is there, as is the EFI partition and the main Windows partition. I was able to do this procedure once successfully, but when trying to do it again, I am unable to do so due to the error.
-Justin
I don't know if this will be of any assistance but I did find this page that has a slew of details:
http://www.microsoft.com/Surface/en...vice-and-recovery/windows-rt-stops-responding
If you follow the instructions to get a recovery key it might help you somehow. I'm really just grasping at straws because it is so new...
Good luck and please post here if you resolve the issue. It might help others.
Yeah, tried that, my boot options in there are Continue to Windows RT, Boot (with options for hard drive and USB), and shutdown.
It's all quite bizarre. I expect I'm just missing some file somewhere that points it to the recovery partition.
Could someone with a Surface RT open up an admin command prompt and run reagentc.exe /info, and reply with the output?
That may get me back on track, since that should output the details for Recovery.
here you go.

Well, some minor progress. ReAgentC fails, but it looks like my C:\Recovery folder is empty from seeing what a proper info output is above. Anyone willing to zip that folder up and post it for me? Its a hidden folder, not sure what the size is, but mine is definitely empty. I believe the files in that folder tell Windows where the recovery partition is located.
Did you find a solution for that problem? My Surface experiences the same issue, after having succefully restored it the first and only time yesterday.

Thanks for the answer, but this only brings me to the advanced startup screen where I have the choice between "Continue", "Use a Device (either USB, Network or Windows Recovery DVD)" or Shutdown PC. The second option only offers me the choice between "Hard Drive" and "USB Drive".

I don't have a C:\Recovery Folder on my Surface, if that helps. I've used the Reset feature many times, and the only thing named recovery is a text file in the root with 0 bytes.
It sounds like you need a Recovery Drive: Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Recovery.
I created one shortly after setting up my Surface, thinking I could ditch the recovery partition and regain some space. After seeing how many times I've refreshed and reset this thing, I changed my mind about deleting the recovery partition.
That said, if you're near a Microsoft Store, drop by and see if they have a Recovery Drive on hand. That might solve your Surface's problem.

Actually, you do have a C:\Recovery folder, but it's a system folder and is hidden by default.
In fact, even if I take ownership of the folder, and give myself full control, it won't actually let me view the contents of it though.

Ah, I'd mistakenly thought showing "Hidden Items" from the View ribbon would show those.
So I turned off Hide Protected OS Files, and found the Recovery folder.
But when I opened a command prompt with administrative privileges and visited the folder, it was empty, just like yours.

[GUIDE] Alternative (.IMG) Backup Method (For Kitchen, Etc.)

NOTE: IF YOU HAVE NO CLUE WHAT THIS IS, THEN LEAVE IT BE
CAUTION: PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING POSTS ABOUT BACKING UP "USERDATA".
CONFIRMED WORKING!!!
Thanks to then following for their feedback and testing:

While playing around with my extra SCH-I535, I came across something very interesting.
I was having a lot of problems getting "full" backups of my larger .img's (ie. data, cache, etc.) I was told to try and mount my system as r/w and adb through my computer instead.
When i would try backing them up in a terminal emulator, I would always get an error about the file being too large...[\B]
I got too confused trying and got way too frustrated.
I found out that I could obtain these .img's just as easily as copy and pasting.
I was able to get the full backup sizes this way also.
Now this method does not have EVERYTHING worked out. If I could get some input and help on this, that would be greatly appreciated.
DIRECTIONS:
1. Take any rooted sgs3 and install ES File Explorer.
2. Setup ES with root (go into settings and click on the "root options" and allow ES to take advantage of root and go up to the "/" directory).
3. Also make sure to change your default home folder to "/" in settings.
4. Now exit out of ES and open it up again. You should be in the root directory (/).
5. Open up the folder marked "dev" (or the "/dev" folder) and locate the "block" folder (or the "/dev/block" folder).
6. Copy the folder named "block" (long-press and select "Copy").
7. Now move to your extSdCard (or you can stay in your internal card if you insist and have a lot of room to spare).
8. Create a folder and name it something you will remember.
9. Paste in that folder and go make yourself a bowl of oatmeal or whatever (you can see the process ongoing in your notification bar).
10. After they are done copying, you will be left with a lot of files (there will be a folder in the folder you created and then a few more folders you will have to open to get to the folder with all the goodies in it)(you'll understand when you see it). Most of them you will find familiar if you ever opened up a stock ODIN tar.md5 before.

11. Now you have all these files, but none of them have extensions. Transfer this folder to your Linux environment and go ahead and add the proper extensions to these files by renaming them.
Some of them should be .sbn, some should be .img or .ext4. The best thing to do is to download a stock ODIN img and add the file extensions that correspond with them to your copied files.
12. Now you can use the kitchen or any other method that would require these files.
I have only had time to test these files out in the kitchen and create a working folder for them (so I could remove unwanted things and bloat ware, etc.).
I used the system.img.ext4 and another boot.img to create a flashable ROM.
I didnt use the boot.img from the copy I made cause I didn't have time to play around at the moment. But I will be trying later tonight.
It would be cool if anyone else could help me out by testing this and letting me know what was up.

Good method but essentially this is the same as this without creating an actual ODIN image: Link to thread
Minor word of caution, the "userdata" partition include all the contents of your /sdcard partition (meaning your internal storage). Basically if you're backing that up you have to have enough space to duplicate the contents of your internal storage your external SD card or the same internal SD card (whichever location you are copying to).

This!
And, backing up userdata while it is being "used" can result in corruption. I wouldn't recommend this backup method for backing up userdata.
Thanks for the feedback brothers.
For the system partition and what not, its a much easier way for me. And it takes some confusion out of getting the errors (too large errors).
Its a bit faster too.
Just wanted to share it with y'all.

Have you noticed anything odd with the files you get using this method? I was just wondering about backing up partitions while the system is booted normally. To be honest I haven't noticed anything wrong with images that I pull from my device while its booted normally, but I was looking at this thread and the thought popped into my mind that maybe some files might be in use by the system? Probably not except for log files.
Anyway, I could write a script that would do this on your device without having to fiddle around with ES. The only difference would be that I use tar and excludes to get /data without pulling /data/media. I'd really like to get a /data img without having to resort to tar, but I haven't gotten around trying to dd mmcblk0p15 without getting the whole internal sdcard along with it. I have the 32gig SGS3 so its a big issue for me. I had an idea to unmount /mnt/sdcard, but I'd imagine its not as trivial as unmounting the internal sdcard while in recovery and I really don't want to destroy my phone.
Anyway, nice find mate.
Ta,
ALQI
I personally haven't had any problems when backing up my system.img. I always make sure to do a fast reboot and kill any tasks running with ES right before I do it.
I have taken the system.img and used it in the kitchen a few times andnnot had any problems.
This method works for the most part but shouldnt be something to mess around with unless you know what your doing. I am trying to work out a way so that I can get it to match 100% with a regular dump (MD5).
This is really just a kind if a shortcut for people already using ES on a rooted system.
If your already rooted and already have ES File Explorer installed, all you literally have to do is go into the /dev folder and copy the /block folder (or whatever you need from it) to your extSdCard. And then add ".img" or whatever the extension should be to the end of the file.
Just copy, paste and add extension.
I was having issues with the terminal kicking back at me with "file too large" errors when trying to get some of my backups.
I was fiddling around with ES and discovered this.
I was hoping someone might be able to use this. Or that maybe it was a missing piece to someone's puzzle or that someone could do something more with it.
When I discovered I could get a result from just copy and pasting, I thought I might be able to figure out another easy way that backup. In known there is a couple really good ones out there already, but having different options can sometimes benefit different situations, scenarios and whatnot.
If you wanna play around with this, feel free to brother.

[GUIDE] Recover Accidentally Deleted Files, Photos, Music after Rom Install

DISCLAIMER! I am NOT responsible for any damage to your phone, loss of data, use of your phone, or spontaneous sharknadoes that may occur if you try these steps! It worked for me, but I make no guarantees that it will work for you! Back up all your data and your ROM, and use this at your own risk!
These instructions work to recover any deleted files whether they are Music, Photos or even Apps after Rom Install Wipe or even Factory Reset.
These instructions even work to recover any type of data after accidental delete.
I tested myself after Installing CM10 on my sisters SGSII and she told me afterwards that all her photos, all 1200 of them, yes 1200!! were gone!! I of course immediately asked her why the hell did she save the photos to the internal memory instead of the SD Card
***TESTED ON***
Galaxy S II (T-Mobile), CM10
LG Spectrum 2 VS930 (Verizon), Android 4.1.2
***NEEDED***
Phone (of course)
USB Cable
RECOVERY Software from here, installed on desktop or laptop >> http://www.filehippo.com/download_recuva <<
***NOT NEEDED***
ROOT
Custom ROM
***TIP***
After accidental delete, do not use phone. Data saved to memory can overwrite space that was allocated to the deleted data.
Instructions:
1) Download and Install RECUVA Software, DON'T OPEN
2) Turn Phone ON
3) Turn on USB Debugging in Developer Options
4) Connect to PC via USB
5) Allow any divers to install
6) Mount Storage on phone (Sometimes called Mass Storage) This will allow you to see files on computer from internal or external memory.
7) Once connected, Open/Start RECUVA software
8) Click Next on first screen
9) Select ALL FILES or PICTURES or MUSIC and click Next, This can speed up search and recover.
10) Click on "In a Specific Location", then select Browse
11) Select your Internal Memory or SD Card then click Next. On My phone is shows drive letter for each one separately.
12) Check "Enable Deep Scan" if the first time you did steps files were corrupted. Sometimes this helps recover them. If you use your phone and apps create files in system, these created files can overwrite the location that the deleted files were saved to. Explaining this is too complicated for Noobs so don't worry about it.
13) Click Start
Let Program do it's thing
After it's done check on the files you want to recover and click "Recover"
The program then will ask you where to dump files to. Select or Create NEW folder then click OK
DONE!!! Now you can go to the folder you created and inspect the files you recovered.

[TUT] Lending space for games data (Installing App Data on extSdCard) – [requires roo

N.B. Try this at your own risk. No one will be responsible with anything right or wrong you do.
Everyone is searching for a way to install apps on External micro SD Card, but as of Android 4.1.2 of the Galaxy Core, this option is unavailable.
Apps like AppMgr III, ext2sd, etc nothing works.
But here, I’m gonna show you a way to do this easily. But this method needs your phone to be rooted.
Search the forum to find Farmaroot to root your phone.
This method will make your phone thinks that its using the sdcard0,
but there will be a fake door which will led all app data to be on extSdCard.
Required Apps:
Lucky Patcher
Steps:
Download and install Lucky Patcher 3.9.3 (developers' website)
(optional) (do this if you want to move your existing app data and obb too) Copy/move the existing “sdcard0/Android/” folder to “extSdCard/Android/”.
If you don’t copy/move your existing apps might not work.
I recommend to move as existing apps will take up some extra card space.
Create a folder named “Android” on extSdCard if you skipped 2, or the folder is missing.
Open Lucky Patcher and click on the “Toolbox” button on the bottom.
{

"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",

}
Touch the “Directory Binder” option.
Select “Add new directory bind”.
On the first typer, browse to the “Android” folder on extSdCard; and on the second typer, browse to the “Android” folder on sdcard0.
Confirm with “Bind Directory”.
Now, all your existing apps’ data will be on extSdCard. And in future any apps which will be installed, will be installed on extSdCard too.
P.S.: You need internal storage space to install the APKs. This method will only give access to the app data to be on the extSdCard.
Thanks to ChelpuS for his amazing app.
im just use directory bind, its simple.
or use GL to SD

I use folder mount.
What I love about this tut, is that, whenever you install apps, it automatically mount the apps from extsdcard.
Unlike foldermount or apps2sd, everytime you install new apps, you need to manually mount them.
Thanks qstar.inc :good:

though you need to be careful while starting the phone for the first time, open apps before patching done might replace all your data!

Damn, I lost all my installed apps and saves, then I have this "safe mode" in my left lower screen. http://www.svetandroida.cz/media/2013/05/safe-mode.gif
I guess I will go back and use my internal SD card.

I think I messed up the settings of Lucky Patcher.
But its ok, I have all my apps backed up with TB.
Maybe I'll try folder mount instead.
