One thing that bugs me about the Captivate is that I frequently miss notifications while my phone is locked and set to vibrate (the vibrate is very weak for notifications). What I would like is a way to force the phone to "wake up" when any notification is received. By wake up, I mean for the screen to turn on for the default screen time out.
Is there any way of making this happen with an app or a mod? The NoLED app is a good idea but a battery drain... I'd prefer something than only turns on the screen for a minute when the notification is received.

Isn't that just for text messages? I would prefer something that works for all notifications including GMail and Google voice.
Try searching for mmf in the Market. It doesn't do the exact thing that what you want, but it will turn on the backlighting and flash the screen on/off when it receives sms, voice and gmail.

Thanks! That is a good start... if he adds GVoice support, it would be almost perfect.
EDIT - Did not realize you were the author! If there is a way to add GVoice support it would be awesome.
I've looked around, but couldn't find a method like they did with Gmail. I'll see if I can figure out indirectly watching GV's notification tones though.

Yeah I think the guy who wrote the NoLED app ran into similar issues with GV and other notifications... it not work in vibrate mode. Thanks for checking it out.
A blank/silent mp3 might work w/ vibrate... GV right now just doesn't seem to have a way of announcing that a new message is available like Gmail. I've put an updated version on the Market with notification tone monitoring. Seems to work fine with the limited testing I did with GVoice. It's disabled by default for now, so just toggle it on. hth
is there anyway to make it popup and automatically turn on the screen like handcent? Handcent misses alot of text and this app works better but doesnt actually turn the screen on with the pop up.
Check out SMS Popup in the market (free). Use that for notifications as it has a screen wake option. I disabled hancent and the stock messenger's notification options and it works great. It's a great little program.
Not sure if this will meet your need but wanted to throw it out there.
I am using stock ROM, with Widgetlocker, installed ADWnotifier, I want to display unread SMS and missed call on my lock screen, but didn't work.
Hi go to android market an search 'Missed It'. That will do the trick
I've had this Samsung S3 for six months now rooted with stock AT&T JB ROM. I'm starting to use the phone in the car more and am perplexed how difficult I'm finding it to do some pretty simple, commonly useful things. Here's what I'm trying to achieve:
- When phone connects to bluetooth in car, to on Car Mode and Driving Mode
I already use Llama and turning on Car Mode is easy. Driving Mode looks like I have to use a custom Android Intention (haven't tried it yet)
1. Replace lock screen (currently using Widget Locker) with Car Dashboard for easy app launch and forwarding of songs being played in Power Amp, Spotify or Pandora. Strange that Llama toggles Car Mode but the toggle on the OS is "Driving mode" Seems Driving Mode controls TTS activation and Car Mode toggles the Car Mode app. I think this is just the problem with Touchwiz not being "Android Standard" functionality?
2. Make it so I don't have to press a button to wake phone but don't eat battery with screen usage. The only Car app I've found that comes close to this is the iBOLT Dock'n Drive app where you set the screen brightness slider all the way down and it just shows a clock jumping around the screen. I don't even want the stupid clock - but I guess it's nice to know the phone is in car mode waiting for me to touch the screen. Unfortunately music controls are not on this dash app and the Car app with Pandora integration (forget the name) doesn't have the blank the screen mode without sleeping.
3. When a text comes in, I want either (a) and auto-response that I'm driving and to call me if its urgent, or BETTER, (b) allow me to speak "reply" and do a voice to text response or "auto response" to send my auto response. S-voice allows you to say 'reply' but only if the text comes in when the S-voice app is the currently opened app. If phone is sleeping and text comes in, all it does is read the text. Disabling widget locker and having no lockscreen slider made no difference.
Sidenote: I've also discovered on the S3, because I don't use S-Voice, (I have home double tap mapped to Google Voice Search), the TTS doesn't work. If I manually launch S Voice once, then TTS works but if I remove it from the background apps list then no TTS. That's sort of a side issue.
4. If car mode is enabled, on GoSMS I don't need a pop-up. Just TTS. But GoSMS still thinks I haven't seen the message. So even though I heard the message GoSMS keeps pinging me with a reminder (which I do want repeat reminders for unread texts when NOT in car/driving mode) Strangely there is no Car/Driving mode settings in GoSMS. Surprising. And the Auto Response has to therefore be manually toggled.
It appears I may have to add some 3rd party apps to achieve what I want and possibly dump GoSMS - I've also found that CloudSMS (to replicate SMS to my tablet) doesn't work with GoSMS running. Boo. Hiss. I GoSMS is such a superior SMS program in most all other respects. Hate to see it go.
Seems what I'm asking to do shouldn't be so complicated. With all Google's resources, I'm surprised this isn't all built-in to Android and easily used.
Getting close. Turned off option on GoSMS to disable other messaging notifications (fixed CloudSMS issue).
Found two promising apps:
SMS+Car - Does the job but the it doesn't use the native Google voice recognition and more importantly doesn't read calendar reminders. What it DOES do is mark the SMS messages it reads as read!
Enhanced SMS + Caller ID+ - This is the better app, it cleaner, more options, used native Google voice recognition. It's missing one thing though, DOESN'T MARK THE SMS AS READ! Dealbreaker.
Search continues...
Maybe it's just me, but I've not been able to get LightFlow to work with Hangouts. I've set up contacts, and specific colors/sounds, but they get over ruled by the default Hangouts notifications (for SMS at least). Has anybody got this working? Do I have to disable the default Hangouts notification for LightFlow to work?
Version 3.12.5 - 07 November 2013
- Fixed android app store links
- Contact specific notifications for google voice
- Contact specific notifications for hangouts (with some limitations)
- Workaround for nexus 5 not being able to have the led always on
- Fixes for kitkat stock email app
- Support for sms hangouts integration in kitkat
- Better layout of notification list for full hd screens
- Fixed clearing of some sms messages in android 4.3 upwards
just wanted to say i also have this problem.
Light Flow has had a problem playing nice with Hangouts so far, even after the newest update which claims to address these problems. They were working somewhat okay before (albeit notifications were highly inconsistent), but now they just don't work at all with Hangouts. If you read the comments on the Google Play page for Light Flow, a number of users have mentioned this too. So I'm hoping it's a known issue and will be fixed in the next update.
Mine works fine. 3/4 of the time. There's sometimes it doesn't clear the notification. This is for the SMS integration in hangouts. I have custom contacts for colors too. And I have to manually clear it.

try going into the individual notifications you have set and for the clearing method for each one select :Screen on, rather than manually do so etc etc.
I'm now getting duplicate notifications for my specific contacts that I set up in LightFlow. I can get around this by disabling the SMS Hangouts notification, but then it doesn't make any sounds for the contacts that are not set up in LightFlow.
I wish Google/Android devs would actually let me assign different notification sounds (similar to ringtones) for SMS/Hangouts from the contact itself... I've already requested this in the Hangouts product forum https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!forum/hangouts
Use "ledblinker" it works great! Make sure to restart your phone after installation! Lightblow doesn't work

when you search leadblinker in the playstore, it's one word btw
Have you tried contacting the developer through the app? It'll include a diagnostic log, and just explain to him what the issue is. I did this and he literally replied a minute later, explaining that there is a fix on the way and also a workaround to use in the meantime.

it's not a problem with the app, because it's working correctly, but it's an annoyance due to google designing the way hangouts can notify.

I'm pretty sure mine is working OK. I checked settings and I have the following checked;
Enable Light Flow
Root Mode
Run in foreground
Enable Clear All
Accessibility Check
Then for Hangouts SMS and MMS
Enabled
Pull Down
Switch Screen On
Last, set pulse notification light on in Settings, Display.
Hope that helps. Oh, I also have the Lite version.
Mine works fine for SMS and that seems to be about it. I don't really get other notifications often so I can't recall if they work, but SMS is most important to me... root mode, does NOT run in foreground, and SMS apps + MMS set to white. Hangouts is set to yellow but I use it for SMS and it notifies me in white.
After the recent update of Light Flow, now my hangout SMS led notification doesn't work. I tried resetting my phone and doing all the tricks for Nexus 5 but it would not work. The only way to make it work is to set up all notifications for hangouts and disable the SMS notifications. Im wondering if they changed the SMS notifications for hangouts or something. Other then that I have no problems with it for now.

Thanks, that works on my Galaxy Nexus running 4.4.
Light Flow seemed to be the source of much battery drain for me. I'm having more luck with light manager.
I use Light Manager and it works like a charm, however, I don't have it set to different colors for SMS, MMS, and Hangouts since I use the Hangouts app for all 3
I thought the LED (hardware) is white only.
