[Boot Animation] Guru Boot Animation - Nexus One Themes and Apps

This is my first attempt at building a custom boot animation, so go easy on me. I built this by hand, creating each frame individually in Photoshop. It's a huge pain, but worth it to me.
I used to run http://www.Symbian-Guru.com, and I'm still emotionally attached to the 'Guru' brand, so I wanted that on my Nexus One. I'll work on this some more to try to make it better, but here's a video showing the first iteration:
You can download the bootanimation.zip from here: http://bit.ly/guruboot
You *should* be able to just paste this into data\local using Root Explorer, but if you're on CM6, the only way I could get it to work was using the following adb instructions:
adb remount
(should say successful here)
adb push bootanimation.zip /data/local
(should show the info of the move)
adb reboot

nice boot animation!
kind of off topic, but what case is that? do you have anymore pictures of it?

Glad you like it. The case is the Otterbox Commuter case.

Kind of creepy how it sounds like right as the boot animation starts, you go "Yeaaah" as though you're about to get off, haha.
Looks good though.

Looks pretty epic if I say so myself. I dont even care about the ending animaions, but the award bios bootup is pure winz.
this should be under the theming section
If you just want it as a bootscreen, I'll make a zip. Gimmie a few.
I lied. I can't get it to work...Could be cause I need sleep. Maybe someone else can or I'll try again later.

I couldnt decide where to post this...maybe since I was tired because of finals. But, your right and it should have been obvious that this belonged in themes vs here. I went ahead and reported this, so maybe a mod will move it.

Ohh
Woww, that would be nice if we can get that to work on the Hero
I actually tried them out a few days ago, I'm not the best w/ graphics, but all someone has to do it resize the images and it will work. runs fine, just too big.
It's made for 2.1 roms. Follow the instructions in the thread it should just work. The guy says it was pulled from villain Rom which is a gsm hero Rom. If you're already running a 2.1 Rom and have problems rename the zip bootanimation.zip and copy it to /system/media using root explorer or push it through adb and reboot.
EDIT:
Got it working it's attached.
Push the GIF to /system/media/bootscreen/
I think I need to mess with the lenght still its begins to loop again.
Not sure hwo to fix that.
But I think that is what the Part 1 folder is for.
I renamed it dancing.gif before I pushed it so I wouldn't ahve to mess with the XML file, but you guys do what you will with it.
Works fine on my phone other than the Fresh boot music doesn't match and it begins to loop a second time LOL.
Kcarpenter said:
I looked at it and maybe I don't know enough about the boot screens, but I thought our Boot Images where animated GIFs. The zip he has here is a series of PNG's. I would be more than happy to play with it if someone can confirm this is how 2.1 boot screens work.

they work the same way, this is just another way to do it. If there is no /system/media/bootscreen folder, it defaults to using the bootanimation.zip
either way works.
I looked for the villain rom one, couldn't find it.

I can't make an update zip I am on my work PC. Probably get yelled at in a few for runing Gimp instead of PS. They like to spy. LOL
i'm making an update zip. hopefully it works.
edit. ok i have all pngs resized to 320x480 now trying to animate. 90+ images surprised not more really.
Moved to theming as this is not related to rom development.

Did you resize one by one? Gimp lets you open them all as layers and then resize all of them at once.
ok my pc is sucking it up. i have the 90 some individual images resized and everytime i go to save it photoshop just closes out so i have yet to make the gif.

no i made an action in photoshop and resized them all. i'm having problems trying to make the animation.
here's the right one
the first one doesn't loop, just reload or right click and view image

Sooo 90 images is a little much for PS to handle at once. I am not infront of mine right now BUT there should be an Import as Layers options some where. Gimp is "Open as Layers". When you take all 90 images in as layers each layer is a new frame of the animation.
Once they are all in one gif, then resize the whole gif instead of all of them individually. This will take the strain off PS.
Then on mine, the animation needed to be brought out a little bit longer.
You can either do this or just take my gif I posted a few posts above. It needs the timing played with though.
I have a feeling that even when it is set to Not Loop, the boot screen will loop it regardless. I distinctly remember telling it not to loop but it did any way. That or GIMP is jacked up.

[Live Wallpaper] Droid X Live Wallpaper - The eye is watching

So I can't believe nobody has posted it yet, but I have been looking all over for this, ended up finding it over at Android Central.

Please check Britoso's post here for files, he did a much better job at this than me.

Looks like it does. I still have mine show up, but they force close when trying to select them. I don't care though. I love this one.
Here you go. Screenie!
If anybody wants to take this and load it into the stock live wallpapers, maybe even add the Samsung Galaxy live wallpapers in it, that would be awesome. That is beyond my capabilities right now though.

Did you get any error message in ADB or did it tell you how much data was pushed? Also, I'm assuming you went ahead and set the wallpaper manually.

This is probably a newbie question, but if I load up this APK, how do I get back my original live wallpapers? I use the HTC Droid Incredible, btw.
question to those that have it ...are there settings in this lwp like change background or maybe the color of the eye ..or what i see is what i get from the pic shown

Try this
Code:
adb remount
adb pull /system/app/LiveWallpapers.apk LiveWallpapers.apk
That will pull your old Live wallpapers. Put those where you can find them later and put the new LiveWallpaper.apk in your <sdk>/tools folder (because you can't have two files with the same name in the same directory).
Then proceed as directed in the first post.

No settings. Just the option to save it. You can probably change the back ground though by pulling apart the .apk
** EDIT **
Okay, so I tried opening the apk and replacing the droid_bg.jpg only to find out whatever I replace it with comes up as a blank white screen (I even sized it to the odd 1025x1025 size the old one was even though both of them had large white areas in the .jpg). If anybody else wants to give it a try, I am attaching the wallpaper I was trying to use. It is the default regular wallpaper from the Droid X

I'm a total newbie, so I haven't rooted yet. I don't think I'm considered a "power user" yet, so I didn't want to accidentally brick my phone. I came over from blackberry, so I'm still getting used to this new system. Soon enough I'll be getting my hands dirty with this rooting business.
Anyways, I don't have the ability to pull the original Live Wallpapers... would it be possible for someone else to pull theirs, and post the APK online for me? I've been using "AppInstaller" to implement all of the APK's I've downloaded. Just been playing around with the Galaxy S LWPs. If it's a hassle, don't worry about it. I'll figure root soon enough.
Thanks for the quick reply, by the way!!
Can someone upload a version thats not .apk so i can download it on my phone, im at work
standalone version
Credit to ccunningham83 for posting this.
Standalone version
This is what I did:
decompiled,
changed the package and app name,
removed LWPs that install by default,
rebuilt,
signed
updates:
1)removed unnecessary images too, file size now 1.1MB
2)added Blue, Cyan, Green and Golden eyes!
3)added a blue eye version with alternate background.
4) 7/15/10, added grey version by request.
5) 8/30/10, by request added a red version with black background. No smoke.
6) 9/15/2010, by request added a new red version with the smoked grey background
7) 1/20/2011, green eye with colored smoke
Screenshots:
To uninstall:
Code:
adb uninstall com.android.wallpaperx
APK attached, install as normal.
MediaFire Links:
[blue] [cyan] [gold] [green] [red] [blue-alternate bg]
[grey]
[red-greybg]
[green-colored smoke bg]
Here is a video by myghtymouse19 showing all versions on an EVO:
I had issues trying to remount so copied the file to the root of SD then used Root Explorer to copy and paste as R/W into /system/apps/ then click on the the apk and install it... then youll have it. Also even though you overwrite the default wallpapers, this file is the default wallpapers file with one file added the droid x eye lwp, thats all... so your not loosing anything.
Thanks Britoso! Works great!
Brilliant work guys, especially britoso.
Just adding that this also works fine on the Desire. I just used Astro to install britoso's .apk and it worked fine. It even kept all my current Live Wallpapers and just added DROID X to them.
Hope no-one minds but I made a post in the Desire forum pointing to this thread to share the love!
Thanks again,
Oz
Well it got 4 views, but now link to the attachment is broken....any particular reason, Britoso?
EDIT: Nevermind, back up. Thanks
many thanks to you, britoso! the file worked beautifully
I was able to push the apk just fine to my N1. I'm now running Samsung Galaxy S, N1, and this Droid LWP.

Would be awesome to have the Sega Saturn or Dreamcast boot animations
Using now, I have a friend that is going to wildly jealous.
How do you do the call outs for the sounds in a bootanimation.zip?
I have attempted to make my own and they never come out right.
+1 on Dreamcast! One of my all time favorite systems....Thanks for your work.

Just take the bootanimation and spc out of the file and push to your system/media folder, i think for cm7 you have to change the name of the spc file, not sure maybe android_sound maybe.

Here's a super high quality version of the boot..
If you can add white around it, it will hopefully be the correct aspect ratio and not squish it together.
NOTE: This is not a bootanimation, but a mp4 of it.
New Higher res Dreamcast boot animation is posted per request. Thanks Freeza
STUPID QUESTION ALERT
All I have to do is flash one of these files through recovery and it will override the boot animation from the ROM I'm using?
no you have to push them via adb
If you have request let me know.
Is there a way to get the ps1 non stretched

My modified boot animation

Hey everyone, I took some time today to change the default boot animation and sound; here are the results:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RkZqLGg8cBA
Instructions can be found at the links under the video. As always, all credit is to those who have made the animation and provided the sound clip!
On a side note: Does anyone know how to change the shutdown animation? I've tried guides online which tell you to change the system/media/video/shutdown files, but that directory (starting from /video) doesn't even exist on the G2X!
Dude those say epic 4g on them, why don't you actually post a version for our phone.

Ok.. So where the heck is the PowerOff.apk located at? I've searched all over in RE and can't find it..
Also, why don't we just make APKs of boot animation/shutdowns and sounds to go along with them? I mean it seems like it should be easy. Maybe that's just my ignorance of some Android "thing".
Oh there it is, .system/app/PowerOff.apk - went cross-eyed looking at them all.
hmm, when I look in the poweroff.apk I find only like 10 images for the shutdown animation. and it has both a MP3 and a OGG shutdown sound, both the same. It also has a LG shutdown image set AND a verizon shutdown image set. Amusing stuff. So I cant modify this file and then just save it and it work right? It has to be signed or some such? and what controls how long it runs, the layout XML file?
Ok, Wel I answered my on question on the first part, but not sure about the layout XML file and what it does. I just renamed the LG animation files to what the T-mo files were named and poof, it worked. I made a backup of the file OFC. I can't seem to make it go beyond those file names of PowerOff_000.png - PowerOff_0010.png. It always cuts off there.

[Boot Animation] Galaxy Nexus Boot Animation for Kindle Fire

I'd like to present an alternate boot animation (with a bunch more to follow) for the kindle fire.
Galaxy Nexus Boot Animation for Kindle Fire - YouTube Preview
Galaxy Nexus Boot Animation for Kindle Fire - Download MediaFire
Instructions:
1. Preview the Boot Animation (to make sure you like it)
2. Download bootanimation.zip
3. Transfer it to your phone using any means necessary (I use Dropbox, feel free to use your USB cable)
4. Use a root exploring application (such as Root Explorer) and navigate to system/media and rename bootanimation.zip to bootanimation.zipbak (this will keep your original boot animation on your SD Card for restoration purposes.
5. Use a root exploring application (such as Root Explorer) and copy the bootanimation.zip file that you transferred in step 3. from the directory you put it to system/media. (in Root Explorer copying the .zip requires turning the button on top of the screen to Mount R/O by taping it, and then you can paste the file!)
Reboot and enjoy your new Boot Animation!
70 views and no responses? Is this working for you? I'm new to all of this, so any feedback could fuel my fire. *pun intended*
