Looks pretty epic if I say so myself. I dont even care about the ending animaions, but the award bios bootup is pure winz.
this should be under the theming section
If you just want it as a bootscreen, I'll make a zip. Gimmie a few.
I lied. I can't get it to work...Could be cause I need sleep. Maybe someone else can or I'll try again later.

I couldnt decide where to post this...maybe since I was tired because of finals. But, your right and it should have been obvious that this belonged in themes vs here. I went ahead and reported this, so maybe a mod will move it.

Ohh
Woww, that would be nice if we can get that to work on the Hero
I actually tried them out a few days ago, I'm not the best w/ graphics, but all someone has to do it resize the images and it will work. runs fine, just too big.
It's made for 2.1 roms. Follow the instructions in the thread it should just work. The guy says it was pulled from villain Rom which is a gsm hero Rom. If you're already running a 2.1 Rom and have problems rename the zip bootanimation.zip and copy it to /system/media using root explorer or push it through adb and reboot.
EDIT:
Got it working it's attached.
Push the GIF to /system/media/bootscreen/
I think I need to mess with the lenght still its begins to loop again.
Not sure hwo to fix that.
But I think that is what the Part 1 folder is for.
I renamed it dancing.gif before I pushed it so I wouldn't ahve to mess with the XML file, but you guys do what you will with it.
Works fine on my phone other than the Fresh boot music doesn't match and it begins to loop a second time LOL.
Kcarpenter said:
I looked at it and maybe I don't know enough about the boot screens, but I thought our Boot Images where animated GIFs. The zip he has here is a series of PNG's. I would be more than happy to play with it if someone can confirm this is how 2.1 boot screens work.

they work the same way, this is just another way to do it. If there is no /system/media/bootscreen folder, it defaults to using the bootanimation.zip
either way works.
I looked for the villain rom one, couldn't find it.

I can't make an update zip I am on my work PC. Probably get yelled at in a few for runing Gimp instead of PS. They like to spy. LOL
i'm making an update zip. hopefully it works.
edit. ok i have all pngs resized to 320x480 now trying to animate. 90+ images surprised not more really.
Moved to theming as this is not related to rom development.

Did you resize one by one? Gimp lets you open them all as layers and then resize all of them at once.
ok my pc is sucking it up. i have the 90 some individual images resized and everytime i go to save it photoshop just closes out so i have yet to make the gif.

no i made an action in photoshop and resized them all. i'm having problems trying to make the animation.
here's the right one
the first one doesn't loop, just reload or right click and view image

Sooo 90 images is a little much for PS to handle at once. I am not infront of mine right now BUT there should be an Import as Layers options some where. Gimp is "Open as Layers". When you take all 90 images in as layers each layer is a new frame of the animation.
Once they are all in one gif, then resize the whole gif instead of all of them individually. This will take the strain off PS.
Then on mine, the animation needed to be brought out a little bit longer.
You can either do this or just take my gif I posted a few posts above. It needs the timing played with though.
I have a feeling that even when it is set to Not Loop, the boot screen will loop it regardless. I distinctly remember telling it not to loop but it did any way. That or GIMP is jacked up.

Looks like it does. I still have mine show up, but they force close when trying to select them. I don't care though. I love this one.
Here you go. Screenie!
If anybody wants to take this and load it into the stock live wallpapers, maybe even add the Samsung Galaxy live wallpapers in it, that would be awesome. That is beyond my capabilities right now though.

Did you get any error message in ADB or did it tell you how much data was pushed? Also, I'm assuming you went ahead and set the wallpaper manually.

This is probably a newbie question, but if I load up this APK, how do I get back my original live wallpapers? I use the HTC Droid Incredible, btw.
question to those that have it ...are there settings in this lwp like change background or maybe the color of the eye ..or what i see is what i get from the pic shown

Try this
Code:
adb remount
adb pull /system/app/LiveWallpapers.apk LiveWallpapers.apk
That will pull your old Live wallpapers. Put those where you can find them later and put the new LiveWallpaper.apk in your <sdk>/tools folder (because you can't have two files with the same name in the same directory).
Then proceed as directed in the first post.

No settings. Just the option to save it. You can probably change the back ground though by pulling apart the .apk
** EDIT **
Okay, so I tried opening the apk and replacing the droid_bg.jpg only to find out whatever I replace it with comes up as a blank white screen (I even sized it to the odd 1025x1025 size the old one was even though both of them had large white areas in the .jpg). If anybody else wants to give it a try, I am attaching the wallpaper I was trying to use. It is the default regular wallpaper from the Droid X

I'm a total newbie, so I haven't rooted yet. I don't think I'm considered a "power user" yet, so I didn't want to accidentally brick my phone. I came over from blackberry, so I'm still getting used to this new system. Soon enough I'll be getting my hands dirty with this rooting business.
Anyways, I don't have the ability to pull the original Live Wallpapers... would it be possible for someone else to pull theirs, and post the APK online for me? I've been using "AppInstaller" to implement all of the APK's I've downloaded. Just been playing around with the Galaxy S LWPs. If it's a hassle, don't worry about it. I'll figure root soon enough.
Thanks for the quick reply, by the way!!
Can someone upload a version thats not .apk so i can download it on my phone, im at work
standalone version
Credit to ccunningham83 for posting this.
Standalone version
This is what I did:
decompiled,
changed the package and app name,
removed LWPs that install by default,
rebuilt,
signed
updates:
1)removed unnecessary images too, file size now 1.1MB
2)added Blue, Cyan, Green and Golden eyes!
3)added a blue eye version with alternate background.
4) 7/15/10, added grey version by request.
5) 8/30/10, by request added a red version with black background. No smoke.
6) 9/15/2010, by request added a new red version with the smoked grey background
7) 1/20/2011, green eye with colored smoke
Screenshots:
To uninstall:
Code:
adb uninstall com.android.wallpaperx
APK attached, install as normal.
MediaFire Links:
[blue] [cyan] [gold] [green] [red] [blue-alternate bg]
[grey]
[red-greybg]
[green-colored smoke bg]
Here is a video by myghtymouse19 showing all versions on an EVO:
I had issues trying to remount so copied the file to the root of SD then used Root Explorer to copy and paste as R/W into /system/apps/ then click on the the apk and install it... then youll have it. Also even though you overwrite the default wallpapers, this file is the default wallpapers file with one file added the droid x eye lwp, thats all... so your not loosing anything.
Thanks Britoso! Works great!
Brilliant work guys, especially britoso.
Just adding that this also works fine on the Desire. I just used Astro to install britoso's .apk and it worked fine. It even kept all my current Live Wallpapers and just added DROID X to them.
Hope no-one minds but I made a post in the Desire forum pointing to this thread to share the love!
Thanks again,
Oz
Well it got 4 views, but now link to the attachment is broken....any particular reason, Britoso?
EDIT: Nevermind, back up. Thanks
many thanks to you, britoso! the file worked beautifully
I was able to push the apk just fine to my N1. I'm now running Samsung Galaxy S, N1, and this Droid LWP.

honestly, I'd start with the Rosie. Even though it just displays as the bottom bar, it's files have a lot to do with launching as a whole. Make sure that you're suing an actual 2.2 rosie as your base rather than a 2.1, because that will **** your world up off that bat.
A simple way to know is just taking that stock rosie I posted in the other thread, and pushing it into your theme. If it works, then your rosie is your problem.
i never touched the rosie for this build yet...im still in the test phase of the theme...again it loads fine till i try and launch an app...if i copy a theme to my phone that has a a modified rosie i get no problems at all...i.e. riptides froyo theme...

This isn't said to be offensive, but how do you not have any idea of where u went wrong? Are you just doing batch installs of 50 things with no reboots in between?
Even from rom building, you should know better if that's the case.

Honestly, instead of flashing the whoel thing, I'd just install your base rom, and from there adb push each apk that you've modded individually. Reboot in between each apk. that way you'll know exactly which one you biffed.
so far framework-res went well...no issues

System apks aren't supposed to be signed.
My 2 cents..
I have never had success resigning .apk's
If you are replacing images you don't need to unzip the .apk's to get them in there. Also you don't need to unzip an .apk to optimize the .png's
Also, there are certain .apk's that DO NOT like being .png optimized. Png optimizing the HTC_IME.apk broke it on the Hero. I know there were a few others that either wouldn't run or would cause fc's on the Hero but I don't remember exactly which ones.
I have made several attempts since last night...the only apk's that were png optimized were the framework-res.apk and the com.htc.resources.apk...nothing else was touched as far as program apk's. I am truly at a loss with this...
Did you unzip and resign them?
Did you do more mods than just changing .png's?
If all you edited were .png's then if I were you I would try replacing the .png's without unzipping the .apk's before you give up on it.
I would be surprised if you didn't know this already so no offense, but in case you don't... open the .zip archive with 7zip or winrar and just drag and drop the new .png's into whatever folder they go into then push the .apk's to your phone via adb and reboot immediately.
You're so talented I'd hate to see you scrap the project
I am only editing png's from within 7zip not extracting but pulling from archive then saving back into archive...should i not sign the package at all?

nope, no need to sign them if that's how you're doing it
I will say though (i might be misunderstanding) what I do is open the archive drop the whole res folder on my desktop, close 7zip, make my edits, reopen the archive and drop the images back in the folder they came out of. I've had trouble keeping 7zip open while I'm working on an .apk, fwiw.
I've been trying to modify Tranquility 3.0 to use 10% increments instead of the default 20% with the icons found in this thread: 821606
(Apparently a link to another topic is an "outside link" and I'm not allowed to post it. Just replace this topic's ID with that one and you'll find the thread I'm talking about)
So far I've been able to boot with the correct icons but I get strange force closes and weird patterns, especially in the little loading bars and in the volume bars. It's odd.
I've attached the .pngs and .xmls I would like to use - can anyone build a working framework-res.apk for Tranq's dark theme to use these icons/xmls, or at least tell me where I've gone wrong in creating my own?

Nope, not working - now I just have a bootloop. Thanks for the effort though - maybe someone else could have a go at it?
Your best bet is to take the original DX-Tranquility_3.0.zip and modify it then install it again. Since this ROM does not require a wipe.
I did have issues at first when I tried to extract the zip then make my changes, but this link helped me figure out how to do it through 7zip. Once you are in the correct location you can add your new images to the “drawable-hdpi” folder.
I have done this and added different battery icons, changed the notification bar and replaced the "Verizon Wireless" text.
FYI:
I added "stat_sys_battery_0.png" through "stat_sys_battery_100.png" in increments of 10 with 5 and 15 added but it is still reporting 20% increments.

I'll concur as that is the same thing I've done to make some changes to framework-res. Its actually pretty simple to do once you have the files you want to add, and know the location of where they need to be. Kinda just turns into a drag & drop and you are done.
As for the reporting of 20% increments like you mention. I asked P3 about it and it is a thing with the X and the way the software is done by Moto/VZW. He has yet to get it working to report in 10% increments even if you have the images there.
I have seen other ROMs report that have 10% increments working but my guess if they are once that are fully built from source which TranQ is not.

Pushed to /sdcard with adb, moved to /system/framework/framework-res.apk with adb shell. Rebooted.
As for the 10% increments, that's achieved by editing the .xml that tells the OS what images to use at what battery percentage. Replacing already-used images is easy, but the .xml is encrypted. You'll have to use APKTool to decrypt it. The difficulty comes from re-encrypting properly.
You don't have to build from source to get the 10% working. I've done it for NexTheme and Revo for ApeX.
The file I uploaded was created via the same process. Only problem is that i'm not using Tranquility and can't test it. Furthermore, the level of P3droids mods may cause any changes to the framework to bootloop. I'll try to test it when I get home.

first off that is good to hear seeing as I've been told otherwise by many different people. And seeing as I don't know enough in general to question them I don't.
That said if you are willing and had the time if you could PM me the info on what needs to be changed I'll try it out myself. Least of my concern is a bootloop or brick to be honest. I have anything and everythign I'd need to get it back running again no matter what happens as it is pretty much next to impossible to completely brick one of these devices as long as you don't mess up the actual bootloader which would not be an issue in this case.

I'll take this on tomorrow. No guarantees...but I usually don't stop til I get what I'm after
Looking at the one you provided - all the images are .jpg. I haven't done a boot animation in a while but if I recall they need to be .png, and have the naming scheme fast_boot_p_xx.png (where xx is a 2 digit number starting with 00 - in sequence). Like I said - I'll mess with it tomorrow...sleep is too precious to me. Besides, it's my birthday and I haven't even started drinking yet...
For the audio file and theand animation, rename them to bootanimation.zip and android_audio.mp3 before doing anything else. Put the audio file in the same folder as your bootanimation. Make sure both have permissions set to RW R R .Here's the animation...working on my phone. Let me know if there's anything you'd change. Working on the audio now

Download counter is showing 14 downloads. No feedback?
Find HQ intro on YouTube
KeepVid the video
Rip audio from video
Rename audio
Find software to convert .mp4 to animated .gif
Find software to extract images from .gif
Find software to batch rename/resize ~65 images
Create folder structure for .zip
Test
Distribute
Not something I did in 5 minutes - hope I helped though

For future reference, you could try mplayer/mencoder. It would save quite a few steps. I also use imagemagick's `convert' utility for batch image manipulation. Both of these have windows ports, but I haven't tried them on windows, only linux.

Thank you my good man. I'll try those out.
I had all the software I previously mentioned, but haven't made a boot animation since the last wipe of my computer. just a pain to find the stuff to do it again - but i'll give those a shot!
I used a prog called "Free Video to GIF Converter" (clever, right?) for the conversion, "Animated GIF Frame Extractor" for extracting, and iFranView for the rename/resizing
Here's a better one I just made. 300 images rather than 60. use the same audio. Make sure to set permissions to RW/R/R

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1096068
Hey All,
I've been playing around with boot animations the past day or two, just for fun. Going through all the ones in this thread I found an issue where, even without changing them at all, I was getting the first part of the animation and then a white screen.
After a lot of research and experimentation, I figured out that each folder of the boot animation had to be under 500k. If I modified any of the previously non-working animations to fit this constraint, they worked.
I realize it's a long shot, but has anyone else played with this / hit this limitation? Is there any way around it (since it makes it particularly difficult to use any animation that loops)? Or is it something specific to my phone or the way I'm doing things? (tried using Venom Tweaks to install or manually copying the relevant .zip to /system/customize/resource)
ViperXL 3.2.3, Elemental 4.5, HBOOT 1.09, S-OFF if any of that is relevant.
Yeah, I got that too. What exactly did you do to fix it? Just delete files until the folder was under 500k? Or create more folders?

Create more folders, which ... a) was a pain in the ass and b) doesn't really work, since the only way to "loop" that is to run it twice manually.
The Viper animation is pretty long, i"m going to dig into the zip and see how that one is arranged.

The stockinverted animations work just fine for me, but the others I tried all did that loop/white flash thing. I noticed that the settings in the desc.txt file were different, but when I tried to copy them from the one that worked, the other animation didn't work at all. I suspect it's something in there, though.

The desc.txt file is finicky but the Viper stock one doesn't look any different from the ones I've tried, and his .png images are huge.... very weird.
Glad I'm not the only one with an issue, I guess
I have the same issue.
Flash one boot anim, it works for a fews sce then screen goes blank, works again a few sec, then screen goes blank again. But the phone does boot normally.
On Viper 3.2.3
