[Q] Duel Cameras for Non Duo Phones - Android Apps and Games

Just got the new G2 and its a bit disappointing that it doesn't have a front facing camera on it. Now I am looking for a way to do video calling with the use of a Web Camera. It would involve connecting the two devices with a USB Female-Female Adapter and designing an app to use the camera. Does anyone have an idea where to start on something like that?

try starting with a driver for the camera. if you get that to work just wait for yahoo messenger to release the video chat app that will work on 3g. good luck.

A kernel with USB host has been written for the Nexus already, only a matter of time before that gets ported... Then you'd need a driver for the camera... And then a way to fool the app in to thinking the USB camera is infact a built in camera.
Basically you bought the wrong phone.

Devices with USB OTG and HDMI out?

Hi all,
My girlfriend asked me for some kind of "all in one" mobile device that she can use as a phone, a decent camera, a music/video player (so far almost any phone released in the last 3 years does that) but she also needs a decent av out and usb host mode. She's an art teacher and spends most days using projectors and getting works from students on flash cards or usb sticks. So far she was using a netbook for all that, but given the fact that she doesn't need everything a netbook offers I thought she could replace it with a smartphone.
So far I found the new Nokia N8 which can literally do every single thing she needs (it even has hdmi out, so the video quality should be great). The problem is Symbian and everyone complaining about it. I don't think my girlfriend would have any problem with it since everybody complains about the lack of features compared to android or other smartphone os (yet very few people has actually tried Symbian^3) and she's never used a smartphone before.
Anyway I wanted to know if I had other similar options.
Thanks a lot.

[Q] Video/TV Out/Mirroring Windows Phone

Okay, so ive looked around, havent found much on the matter so i wanted to ask if it is possible to mirror a Windows Phones display on an external display via the MicroUSB port? Similar to the way Microsoft does it in demos/presentations...
There have been reports of this being implemented by Microsoft late last year but i havent seen or heard anything yet...
Anyone have any info?
yeah that's sound good. I wish windows phone would evaluate more and with Nokia on board they could make something like on the Nokia E7 the USB port using. i dont know how the name for that is but they can use usb sticks from Nokia to transfer thing to PC without a phone later. something similar could WP do, with all data on the phone, like a backup stick. where all the save backups are. just in case of error or something to have it handy. and they could manufacture it and i would buy it. it helps a lot. like your tread about TV out. that are small things that help a lot.
But they are still young Mobile OS and there is more room to improve
hope Tango brings this support !!
man...cant wait for Tango or Apollo !! hope they bring more cool and new features just as Mango did !!
MHL (Mobile High-definition Link) sounds promising. What about MicroUSB to RCA? Won't that work?

Neo x5 Issues

I'm having a few issues with this device. I cannot find any documentation on how to upgrade the firmware using a Mac - actually my computer isn't even recognizing it even when I start it while holding reset. The USB2 cable seems like it doesn't connect well with the device because it shifts back and forth very easily. Video doesn't play without skipping on my 1080p TV.
It seems like there is barely any support for it on the app store because the remote they tell you to download isn't even on the Google Play. Overall I'm very disappointed and considering returning it for another device. Any recommendations or redeeming factors you guys can share?

Weird camera problem

My phone suddenly started having problems with the camera on my Nexus 5.
About two weeks ago I went to record a video of some cars at a show and I got an error message saying can't connect to camera. I did the usual quick fix stuff like clear the camera cache and even dalvik. Uninstalled the stock google camera app and tried many different versions without any solution to my can't connect to camera message.
I opened up the phone and unplugged all the ribbon cables and reseated. Still same problem. I disconnected the rear camera cable and booted phone. Now my google camera app works and defaults to the font camera - all OK. Replugged camera cable and same problem again.
I ordered a new camera module and have since fitted it. Same problem.
WTF!?
Aarrrggggg I love this love hate relationship I have with the Nexus line. I ALWAYS have some sort of failure on all my previous Nexus phones and now includes my 2nd Nexus 5. Haha
I don't under voltage or overclock. Stock kernel. Tried loads of popular ROMs that don't have this problem on other users phones.
I don't accept that both camera modules are dead. Guessing some sort of camera controller hardware at fault which would mean brand new mother PCB.
Before buying the Nexus 5X (I've still not learnt ha) can anyone think of anything to try?
Cheers

does your phone work fine with apps like Instagram because it selects the front camera.
Apart from completely wiping the phone and starting again with the official google image.
Seriously annoying when the rest of your phone is mint and works flawlessly. Wouldn't mind but I really look after my phones and never drop them.

ROMs and Video Out?

Hello all,
I've searched the forums as best as I could and couldn't really find an answer. I've just ordered a Captivate from Ebay to use as a front end for the 7" monitor in my dash in my car. I'll be doing this with the video out feature that this phone features. The thing is, 2.2 is just a bit too ancient for me, and I was hoping to install one of the Jellybean roms. Can anyone running a custom rom let me know if the video out feature remains intact with custom roms?
Anyone? I know this is a mostly dead board for an old phone, I just need someone who's running something 4.0 or newer to go into the display settings and tell me if the video out mode is still there. I know that doesn't necessarily mean it will function, but it will give me some hope.
80 views and no one can tell me if there's a video out option in their display settings. Sweet.
I've tried video out with cm7 or 9. I couldn't get it to work correctly due to the cable (pretty sure). Have you had any luck?
I've ordered an OEM Nokia A/V cable that is supposed to have the correct pin-out and the latest cm-11-20160815-NIGHTLY-captivatemtd appears to have the tv out feature.
