Get the app "WebSharing" makes it really easy as long as your phone is on wi-fi.

I'm using Samsung Kies program. There is a post on how to download it from Samsumg site .

+1 for Samsung Kies. It worked painlessly for me.

If you have Kies mini installed (available from Samsung USA) and set your phone to use Kies (settings -> applications -> usb settings) you will see the sd cards (both phone internal and external) as drives on your computer that you can connect to. It is a very slow connection in my experience and you are better off using the "mass storage" option. The down side of this is that you need an extra step when you connect the phone to the PC.
1. Plug phone
2. open the notification bar
3. click on mount media
Once again, the SD cards will show as drives on your pc.

Thx for the responses

Kies is the complicated way. Download the drivers. Set the USB to mass storage and plug in the phone. Drag the notification bar down, and mount the USB device. Your phone will show up in windows as a removable drive. Drag and drop.

Win7 won't recognize my phone

I've installed the drivers from links within this forum that have to do with rooting. The phone is rooted but unless it is set in USB Debug Windows will not do anything with it. 2 new drives appear in My Computer after connecting the phone..one being the internal sd card and the other being the sd card I put in the phone...but both drives appear to be unusable for some reason and it shows they are both 0 bytes.
Pull down the notification tray. In mass storage mode at least, if you click the row about about USB, it will offer an option to unmount the drives from Android which will then allow the computer to use the drives.
Just makes no sense at all. I just did as you said and put it on as mass storage and the drivers were installed perfectly. What I'm trying to do is put music onto it but can't really do that using Kies without the PC recognizing it....
I also need it to be recognized to do some customizing stuff since I'm now rooted.
Plug it in, make sure you're in mass storage mode, when you plug it in, you'll get a USB icon in the notification bar, pull down the notification bar, click on USB Connected, and then click MOUNT.
Apparently Kies doesn't work in mass storage mode. I did what you said...opened Kies and it recognized the phone but it said to reconnect it cause that mode wasn't supported

If you want to use Kies, you need all of the following:
1. USB setting must be in Kies mode, not mass storage mode
2. Your phone must be in home screen (and probably has to use Samsung's TouchWiz launcher, not 3rd party launcher).
If both are met, you will see the phone goes into MTP Application mode once connected to the PC.
I found there is really nothing Kies can do that I can't do with WMP. If you need to sync with your desktop Outlook, Kies is probably your only option. Otherwise, I'd use either Media Player mode or Mass Storage mode and use WMP on the PC to sync music and video.
Are you using Windows 7 64-bit?

this,
you absolutely have to use touch whiz for kies to see you.
alternativly, you should just load music to ur sd card from "my computer" when in mass storage mode manually.
Lastly, pandora is free and will introduce you to a lot of good music. Give it a whirl.
Have constant issues with getting this phone to work with Windows.
I've got Windows 7 64bit at home. The provided drivers helped. I was able to detect the phone and see it.
2nd time I plugged it in, it would say error occurred. Installed Kies, phone had been freshly restarted, it was detected just fine. An hour later, after testing a few things, tried to hook up using USB and phone would not show up on Kies.
Rebooting PC or rebooting phone causes the phone to pull up.
Same issue with Windows XP 32bit.
I had some problems as well where windows would not detect it or I would b stuck on a usb slower than 2.0..turns out the stock sync cable included with the phone was garbage bought a new one off ebay and windows 7 installed the drivers perfectly and detects my phone with and without usb debugging turned on. It also gives me usb 2.0 speeds

Rooted and now mounting USB does not work!

I've been sideloading apps for awhile now non-rooted, and copying stuff to/from my phone by mounting the USB.
Today, I decide to root using the 1-click root method, and it works fine...
However, when I connect my phone via USB (debugging on of course) and then mount my USB my PC no longer recognizes the SD cards like it did before???
Can somebody help me?
I've had two of these phones already (first one had the auto tun off problem).
Both have had this problem when I initially got them. The previous one had it after rooted as well. Its not really a bug maybe. Just go into settings>applications>USB settings and choose anything other than "mass storage". Then exit out, plug in the usb, let it do its thing (it wont work). No unplug the USB cable and go back into settings and change it back to "mass storage". It should work then.
I think if you just select anything other than mass storage then choose mass storage again it should work too. Its a little finicky. Once it starts working, it won't stop though. Just that initial connection I guess.
Try changing usb plug at pc. There has been issues with usb ports on main board. Also update chipset drivers.

I loose app and apps icon every time connect to pc

every time i connect my phone to pc and chose usb drive, setting profile ( app) disappear and my home page icons change to android icon. can any one seen issues like this ? please advise.
I would suspect the ones disappearing are installed on your sd and as such are not accessible when the card is mounted.

Make sure your default connection type isn't "disc drive". To do this, do the following:
Menu-->settings-->Connect to PC
Set it to charge only or anything other than disc drive. You can also have it ask what type of connection to make everytime you hook up to your computer.
Thanks guys. it fixed it.

[Q] [Verizon] Disc Drive and External USB

Hi. I've searched but found no answer so here is my thread . So I am somewhat unhappy with how my Verizon GSIII is behaving. Since day 2 I learned I cannot connect this phone as a disc drive on WIndows or Linux. The only options I get when connected via USB to a computer are Media device (MTP) and Camera (PTP). My friend show me his ATT GSII last night. It connects as a disc drive (regular flash drive behavior).
When connecting an external HDD via USB Android should recognize that drive as a mass storage device. His ATT SIII did this, my Verizon SIII did not. I got the message in the notification area "USB Connect" followed by "USB Disconnected." Thankfully, I have no files I want to transfer onto my device as I'm coming from an HTC Incredible, but in the future I will want to browse my file system on my laptop.
Am I the only one here with these issues? I am not rooted.
-Justin
Edit: I found an article which looks like I can browse the external SD Card but not hte internal memory. This is only for root users however. Enable USB Mass Storage for root.
If your Galaxy S3 connects as mass storage, post the carrier.
My S3 shows up as separate internal and external devices when I plug it into my USB port and is listed as SCH-I535 when ejecting. However my Nexus show up as an MTP device when ejecting. Both devices are rooted.
So there may be hope. I'm going to root today, well try to. Can you link me to the ROM you flashed so I have a higher possibility of achieving what I want?
Will every build ROM found in the developer section here get rid of the OEM functionality?
I have the same 2 options as you when connecting to a PC, but, when connected windows will pop the "browse for files" instantly and the 2 drives will be displayed under Computer, one for the internal SD and for the external.
This was like this from the first time i plugged the phone in, before root, same after.
It actually seems like we get to skip the step of "Enable USB sharing" which I find great, plug in and the drives pop.

I used root66 to do mine.
However I had access to both drives prior to doing the root update.
Both of you seem to have more luck than I'm having. When I plug it into Windows I had no way of browsing files. In (K)ubuntu when I plug it in a popup has an option to browse which takes me to 1 folder names 'USB PTP Class Camera' which I can get to the internal storage, but not the SD Card. I'll be making a trip to Verizon today for sure. It makes me wonder if a rooted stock image from Samsung would fix the issue.
Quick question.
Which drivers did you install?
Why do I need drivers, I'm not doing anything but reading the flash memory? It should just work in both Linux and Windows.
Note that the guide to enable UMS on the S3 is for the International version, not the US version. The US version doesn't yet have a UMS option.
You shouldn't (and don't) need drivers for the SD storage to show up on your computer.
Just to test it I connected my S3 to my gf's laptop running W7, both drives popped right away there too.
I just want to make a note: Can't remember exactly what I did but after a few drivers on my AT&T SGS III I am able to just plug into my computer and move files around.
Can anyone helo me transfer video files...pic files i can transfer but all the video files wint...i get an error message on the computer ( pc ) and my s3 says syncing and does nothing. Its a verizon gs3.

Thanks for the test. Just to be sure, you have a Verizon S3?

Sure do.
ICS devices use MTP to transfer files, not UMS. I have a verizon S3 and the drives appear when I plug it in. I had USB debug mode enabled and when I plugged it in it automatically downloaded and installed drivers and worked after that. You shouldn't need root to do all of this.
kthung, thanks for that tid-bit of information. Now how do I do this in Linux? I can browse internal memory, but not my micro SD card via USB.

Hmm unfortunately I don't really know anything about linux. Maybe check this thread out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1785243

I have merged my SD as a system storage, now PC don't detect any storage.

As title said, when I connect my phone via USB to my PC, I can't see the storage of my Moto G. Am I missing something?
I have the exact same issue
After connecting the phone via USB to the computer, unlock it and look for the persistent notification that says something about the USB mode. Then change it to "File Transfer" mode.
@vandermark check my last replay, that works for me.
Really? Does anyone search? This has been asked an answered dozens of times.
Disconnect USB. Go to Settings, Apps, and Show System Apps, then find External Storage and Media Storage and clear data and cache on each one and reboot. Give it 5 min after full boot up to rebuild media databases and connect to USB and grab the pull-down menu and change USB mode to MPT.
