Is it possible to replace the screen with a better one? - Nexus One Accessories

By reading the forum it occurred to me that what I want is to replace the digitizer, then my question is simple: does anyone know of a digitizer for the nexus one that works better than the OEM digitizer that comes with the phone?
Thanks in advance if you reply.

Am curious myself.

I think the incredible digitizer works properly and is basically a nexus one for verizon

^That
I've considered it, but looks like it wouldn't fit.

That definitely doesn't fit :/ but I wonder if it works once plugged in...

Maybe, but that is a big maybe.
There are dedicated chips to drive the digitalizer and lcd so that would pose a problem. But assuming these new ones worked you would also have to write drivers in the linux kernal upon which android boots ( bios but for unix)

[Q] How to check for a fake Galaxy Nexus?

Hi guys, my question is simple. I am about to buy a Samsung Galaxy Nexus and I live in Pakistan. Over here, selling counterfeit stuff is what people over here just love to do. I don't wanna get ripped off and end up buying a fake Nexus the guy claims is real. So how would I check if the Nexus is genuine?
If you can see pixels on the screen, its most likely fake.

The nexus has a capacitive screen.
See the touchscreen and check if its
resistive screen is made of plastic ( you can press the screen and it "dents" in or you can use your nail to operate the screen )
or its
capacitive screen is made of glass ( can sense multiple touches and does not "dent" in and the screen will only respond if you use your fingers and not a your nail or stylus)
Warranty. Fakers don't have it. And if the deal is too good, it's fake. Also, buy from somewhere like a mall or supermarket, where chances are lower its fake.

Fake always has sensitive screen and mostly slow but always loud speaker.
Anything that makes you doubt the quality in the slightest. Like they have said, screen quality, speaker quality...
Check the software information, kernel version, model number, basebamd version, build number, etc against known base roms that should be running on that model.
Chinese stuff very confusing.

Thanks for ur replies guys, I will check all of the things everyone has said. After a lot of Googling, I think I have found a fool proof check to see if its real. Please correct me if im wrong. The Samsung website registers your phones. If I try to register the Nexus with its imei number, If it registers, it is real, and if it doesn't then its fake. Correct?

Mytouch 4G Slide lcd question

Hey peeps, i have a question regarding the mytouch 4g slide. Ive search around the forums to find an answer but to be honest nothing certain about it. I have a broken lcd mytouch 4g slide. Problem is that as far as it seems there are two versions of this lcd, SONY and Hitachi. Problem is, that mines show a different number than those two. The Hitachi responds to 60H00519, the SONY is 60H00523. But the one i have is 60H00532. Question is, does anybody knows if the 60H00523 will work for this phone? Thanks for the help in advance
My experience with cellphones is that, if the screen tech is the same ie AMOLED, LCD, LED etc etc and the connectors and power requirements are the same, then they will probably work. They may differ in image sharpness, brightness and liifespan but they will work.
Maybe someone who has had an experience with the different MT4GS screens can give his view on his experience with them

Well, if it matters the sony version doesnt work on this phone. Its incredible that the 60H00532 version of this lcd display cant be found on ebay or any other place online. No explanations or whatsoever about this also. Just a couple people asking the same question im asking right now.
o rly? check this out: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trksid=p3984.m570.l1313&_nkw=mytouch+4g+slide+sony&_sacat=0

I also have the same LCD as him, I don't understand the issue here, is this a Sony or hitachi???
Well the 532 if available on eBay now pricey for a lcd
Wait so does it matter which version of the LCD I order in to repair my MT4Gs with? Is one superior to the other?
edit: nvm answered my own question by searching these forums more. unfortunately it seems I have no way of knowing which screen I have without opening up the phone! *sigh*

Replacing the screen

Wasn't sure where else to post this, but I have the opportunity to buy a tegra 3 model one X for cheap, due to a broken screen/digitizer, and have the S4 ATT variant. I've searched a few threads and couldn't find anything about possibly switching the screens in the two and if they are even compatible. If there is another thread on this, awesome but otherwise can someone give me a technical reference as to whether this is even possible or not. I'd lovvvve to use the tegra model since I'm on T-Mobile anyway and 4G/LTE are irrelevant

It is possible since the phones are the same size and everything, just the processor is different. The problem is the screen repair is extremely difficult according to many people, and it most likely will need to be sent to a professional to be done properly (no raised edges, properly set, etc.). The cost of repair from HTC is ~$300.
Okay that was concern number 2) Is it even worth the attempt? I'm sure as hell not going to drop another 300 on fixing it if I have the potential to do it myself. And it would be a swap of only the LCD/digitizer as one piece. But thanks for answering my question. Just wanted to be sure before dropping the cash

There are several other threads on this topic already. The screen/digitizers are being sold as different part depending on Tegra3 or Snapdragon S4 versions. So it seems there may be differences between the two. You can search for the other threads for more discussion on this.
As already mentioned, its not an easy repair. Taking the phone apart, and installing the screen is much more difficult than other phones, due to the polycarbonate unibody design. Even pro repair shops are having problems doing the repair, and there has been a report of a shop messing up the repair, damaging the outside of the phone, and getting glue all over it when disassembling and re-assembling.
Is their something wrong with your S4? If not, I would leave it alone. You're likely going to mess up both phones trying to Frankenstein something together, and its not worth it.
If your switching screens from one phone to the other it's pretty simple since the digitizer and LCD don't need to be removed from the screen frame... just swap the frames. If your comfortable with it.

If I remember right, the S4 version is .4 mm longer than the international versions which, if you've noticed some cases out there, causes the cases to be misaligned.
This SMALL length difference causes the screens to be slightly different as well. now, I could be wrong. But I do believe reading somewhere that the screens were NOT compatible between the Tegra3 and S4 versions due to that incredibly minute difference.
Yes, if they differ at all I would not swap them at all....new LCD/digitizer assemblies are $80 on amazon from u.s. resellers

Okay, all phenomenal input, thanks. I'm just going to sit tight with my S4 version. It's just this lack of root is making me try anything

[Q] swapping lcds across models?

Hello,
Has anyone successfully swapped lcds with a different phone model?
For example, could I replace a cracked Relay's screen with one from a Blaze or other similar model?
The few replacement Relay screens I've seen for sale are too expensive for me, so I'm exploring cheaper options.
Any information or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
~Loki
I really doubt this is possible as even if it were to fit and connected the same you would still need the proper drivers. In truth I have never seen a phone that you can swap LCDs with another
Sorry for the bad news
