Hee Guys, I've a question!
Have some problem after editing the HtcHomeSettings.xml
I copied the original file from the .cab to the Desktop
I changed the file (no matter what i change, also a small change like a number).
Saved it as:
File Type: .xml
All Files
UNICODE
And after that, there is only a message: Tap here to launch TouchFlo 2D
And it won't open!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Fixing attempt 1: Changing the File Attributes
I tried to change the File Attributes to:
All-Read, Archived, System File
and to:
Archived, System File
But both aren't working!
Any solution?

Hi i have the problem that i cannot copy the tapres.dll of my MDA Compact to my PC for modify. This has the "pressed" Buttons inside i have found tapres.dll for WM 2003 but i need the one with landscape graphic inside (WM2003 SE).
Can somebody help me to show me a way to copy this file to pc ... when i modify the registry for example tapres2.dll i can't copy the tapres.dll too!
Thx for your help
Snappy
did you try to rename the file... for example add .bak to the name of the file
tapres.dll.bak
What you'll need:
CAB editor, such as OCP WinCE CAB Manager
Madkat's WM2k3 Boot Image Tool (attached)
Adobe Photoshop or other image editor
a compatible HTC device such as the Magician or Blue Angel
Summary:
Customized SplashX.nb files to be installed in \Windows directory of your device
Included:
Customizable Splash2.psd file for use with Adobe Photoshop
Steps:
1. Change the Splash2.psd file as necessary, then save a 24-bit BMP file called Splash2.bmp.
2. Use Madkat's Tool to convert the BMP file to an NB file.
3. Use the CAB editor to replace the Splash2.nb file with your version. WinCE CAB Manager may state an "Unspecified Error" when replacing the file. Instead, delete the original file, then drag the new NB file into the CAB file, hardcoding the \Windows folder as the install destination.
4. Save the CAB file and run it on your device!
Magician devices have only one splash screen, and it must be saved as Splash2.nb.
Blue Angel devices have two splash screens, Splash1.nb and Splash2.nb. Use the above steps to incorporate both splash screens as necessary.
Splash screens will be retained even after a hard reset, so use this after the Anansky's Big Storage hack, or if you just want to personalize your device, such as in the unfortunate event that it's lost or stolen - unless they know this trick, they won't be able to get rid of it!
Have fun!
Thanks mate works like a dream!!
Maybe it's just me, but I've read this post here and at Howardforums and I'm clearly missing something.
I've only ever used the nb_image_converter_859_418.exe to convert "any" bmp to the Splash2.NB file.
Then I drop that into my Windows Folder and use MDA3_bootimage_changer2.cab to apply the file. (Yes I'm using a Magician with this file!)
Soft reset and that's that. No need to do any cab file editing.
Cheers
Howard
PS. I've have both tools on my pc and can repost them, but they are from this site!

Tried that way myself a while ago but for some reason it refused to work for me? (could of been the fact i used a file called XDA2_bootimage_changer.CAB)?? anyway now I can use self contained cabs so I make some splash's for my friends

it must be me, but what cab file are we using here ?

If you don't like Bill's Stuff...
I wonder if anyone can put some help my way.....
I used the xda2 image changer before and I had custom images on my XDA2.
I use this and all I get is a black screen on startup. If I open the .nb file with the converter it shows as it should. (this same .nb works on my XDA2!)
I now have a plain black boot up screen!!
DOH!!!!
Any ideas......?
THanks
First i had the t-mobile splash... wich i didn't like.
Now, whatever bootsplash cab i make, or download here.. after running it, my bootscreen stays blank ( as in black ).
oh well... its an improvement over t-mobile pink
( or is it because i'm running an ancient rom : 1.01.00 WWE ?, only have the device for 3 days... will be upgrading this weekend tho )
Here are my 2 favourites Splashscreens.
The blue one ist for the silver Magician, the darker one is for the new O2 XDA mini (black edition).
Hi I've editted the o2 logo here's the jpg file
I tried to upload the psd so you can edit it but it doesn't work, to bad!

Excellent information, real easy to do
this is mine:
Awesome...
I saw this before, but I have just tried it... and it is really cool 8) ... it gives the device a whole new look...

My way to splash changer.
Hi,
I thanks to BTT for Splash Changer how to. But it is troublesome to everytime run WinCE cab manager in order to put Splash2.nb to the .cab file.
I try to remove Splash2.nb from the .cab file (and renamed the .cab to splash_changer.cab). Afterthat, put the Splash2.nb manually to \windows on PPC. Voila....., no need to everytime run WinCE cab manager!!!!!
Process:
1. Edit .bmp file to your like (Must be 240x320 pixels, 24bit).
2. Use nb_image_converter_859_418 to convert .bmp file to .nb, and change the .nb file to Splash2.nb.
3. Put Splash2.nb file directly to your \windows on PPC. You can do activesync and explore it.
4. Put splash_changer.cab to \temp for you to easier found it.
5. Run file explorer on PPC, and tap on splash_changer.cab.
6. Done! You can check by soft reset the PPC.
Hope it is helpful!

Arto.

Tools you need:
1. WinCE CAB Manager (Trialware)
2. PE Resource Explorer (Freeware)
3. Image manipulation software (e.g. Photoshop)
4. A sample keyboard skin .cab file (From Buzzdev.net, thanks Buzz!)
Instructions:
-------------------
Run CAB manager.
Open the sample .cab file.
Extract the only file there. i.e. "msim.96.dll.0409.mui"
Do not close the manager yet.
Run PE Resource Explorer
Navigate to: Sections > .rsrc > Bitmap > 15361 > English (United Stats)
Right click on it, choose "Export Resource" and save the bitmap file.
Do not close the Resource Explorer yet.
Run your preferred image manipulation software.
Open the bitmap file.
Change the "hue", "levels", "brightness" or "contrast" etc etc to your preference.
When you have produced the result you wanted, save it.
Switch back to PE Resource Explorer.
Right click on the same resource you did earlier, choose "Import Image Resource"
A new folder will appear below with number "15362" and file in it is "Natural Language" or whatever.
Now, right click the original bitmap that still named "English (United States)", and choose "Delete Resource".
Then double click the bitmap you just imported.
In the dialog box, change the values to "15361" and "English (United States)"
Then exit the program and click save when prompted.
Switch back to CAB Manager.
Delete the only file that named "msim.96.dll.0409.mui".
Drag the newly edited resource file into the same space.
When prompted, under [General] set "Archive" and "System".
Under [Flags] set "Ignore date..." and "Warn user...".
Under [Location] choose "\Windows" but leave "Hard-coded path" unchecked.
Click OK or whatever to carry on adding the file.
Then double click "CAB Information".
In the dialogue box, change "Company Name" to whatever, "Application Name" to whatever, then click OK.
Now save and exit.
As usual, copy the newly modified .cab file to your WM5 PPC and click to run it. SOP.
Soft reset.

Skin not showing
I followed your guide, but I still get the standard keyboard. I even tried to install Buzz's skin, but again it didn't work. I am using a Universal (JasJar):
ROM: 1.13.53 WWE
Radio: 1.04.02
WM5: 5.0 OS 5.1.1700 (Build 14354.0.1.1)
Would appreciate your help!

No luck on my Qtek 9100 either. Does anything -besides- copying the CAB to the PPC and running it have to be done ? ( Other than waiting a while and then soft-rebooting )
Does anyone know about this as i have not been able to get it done aswell! It does not a thing!
soft reset
I installed a .cab I found on this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1220629 post number 7 has a link to www.miousers.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=1812. After installing the cab on my phone I did a soft reset and it worked for me. Hope this helps you guys out.
If anyone knows of any sites that have more keyboard skins please post a link I would love to match the keyboard with my today theme.
buzz_lightyear sheds more light on the situation on this thread. Enjoy
I found a new white keyboard skin that installed fine, used it as base to make black one and mine still doesn't work.
I have searched for hours on this, and I bet it is right under my nose, but i could not find it.
I upgraded my BJ2 with windows mobile 6.1 standard. I have added PHM reg editor, CHome Config. I cannot edit the reg, and chrome config gives me errors when starting saying it can't write to reg.
I am trying to figure out how I can edit my cpr files cause right now, 6.1 will not let me over write or edit the file.
Any idea of what I am missing?
TIA
-Z-
Ok i figured out how to make the CHome Config work. never mind that worked for 1 time. but i can't make it work again. getting error back on CHome Config again saying it cannot write to registery.
this is what I did for that:
HKLM/Security/Policies/Policies
key 00001005 changed value 16 to 40
still can't get the *.cpr file over wrote or copied to the windows folder. The error says I don't have permission to replace it.

You can't overwrite it via WMDC anyway
To unlock a registry to overwrite it via ActiveSync or device's File Explorer (Resco Explorer):
Download regeditSTG2 which is digitally signed: http://4pda.ru/forum/attach/387522/regeditSTG2.zip
Then install it and change some registry values:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Policies\Policies\00001001 = 2
-> change to 1
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Policies\Policies\00001005 = 16
-> change to 40
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Policies\Policies\00001017 = 128
-> change to 144
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \Security\Policies\Policies
-> create new key "0000101a": Dword = 1
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \Security\Policies\Policies
-> create new key "0000101b": Dword = 1"

Erofich, I tried that and change those values and added the keys. Still not working.
I still can't edit, delete, copy in the windows directory of the phone.
have you did a reboot of your device after these changes?
yep...
the file in ur link is broken. so I used CeRegEditor changed all the things fthat u mentioned and done a soft reset, plus I even tried turning the phone off and back on. still can't do anything in the windows folder.

What app are you using - WMDC or ActiveSync?
ActiveSync - but wait, i am on vista so really I am using WMDC
I can't use activesync on vista.
I tried using the file explorer on the phone.
I first try to copy the edited file over the no edited file.. Error - I am making sure that the home screen is not set to Sliding panel, as I am trying to edit the CHome_320x240.cpr file.
Next I tried to delete the cpr file from the windows directory - Error - You can't delete file from rom
Then I tried to rename the file in the windows directory, still won't work.
I am not sure on this, but I have read people are editing these files, I just don't understand why I can copy mine to my PC, edit it, but I can't get it back on the phone.

Hi, Can you plz share info on how to delete or overwrite files in the windows dir for WM 6.1.
Thanks,
How did you manage to edit the registry? I changed one value (0000 1005 to 40) and now I can't edit anything else. Several programs I've used flat out won't let me change the registry. I keep getting "access denied" on all of them.
long version:
I've tried to use the solution in here for my blackstone in order to fix the arab-numbers issue on my ppc.
I've downloaded the tahoma.ttf and tahomabd.ttf files
rename the existing files to tahoma.ttf_old and tahomabd.ttf_old
I copied the files from the sd to the /windows folder and SRed the device.
all the hebrew fonts were screwed and blank squares were shown where normally the letter would be,
I got worried, so I checked the "/windows" forlder and I've noticed new files were created.
so now I have 3 versions of each file in the folder:
for tahoma:
tahoma.ttf (original, was created after the SR)
TAHOMA.TTF (the one I copied from the SD, yes, its the same name only the letters are in different case)
tahoma.ttf_old (the backup of the font including hebrew letters)
same goes for tahomabd.
renaming the tahoma.ttf or TAHOMA.TTF is not possible not from normal file explorer, not from resco file explorer and not from total commander (pocket-version), deleting the files didn't work as well ("can't delete file" or "can't rename file" error).
the font on quick dial was ok.
I've figured the problem was that the files were in use, so I've searched the folowing thread which changes the windows fonts folder, so I copied the new version to the /windows/fonts folder and changed the registry value...
it worked, I can see hebrew and normal numbers when the font is set to "right to left", but the fonts are in the wrong folder and I can't delete or rename the new files... which brings me to the...
short version:
how can I delete/rename (and then delete after SR) the "tahoma.ttf", "TAHOMA.TTF", "tahomabd.ttf" or "TAHOMABD.TTF" files from my /windows folder so I can change them with my own font files?
any help would be appreciated.
p.s.
I'm NOT using a coocked ROM and I would like to avoid reset to factory settings... as I've been spending the past week to make the device behave just the way I like it...
thanks in advance
Deleting Fonts in WM6/WM6.1
Rename the filename extension ".ttf" (i.e.: "Tahoma.ttf" --> "Tahoma.bak")
Then delete the font file. That's it. No need to reboot.
If you still can't delete it, reboot your device..Then try deleting again.
I've made a cab with the fonts
you can just install it.. and it'll make the arab numbers disappear
btw, the fonts were edited by InfX
EDIT: use Resco Explorer, it will work
I'm stuck with the same problem. I want to replace tahoma.ttf with the Vista version of it. It gives better results with cleartype. It always worked fine until I installed a newer ROM. I don't really understand the solution. Could anybody pleasy make a cab to replace the Tahoma en Courier New fonts with the default ones from Vista? I would be extremely thankful.
just use QuickCAB 1.0 to create a cab with the new fonts.
