BtT: Easily customizing your splash screen for JAM, PDA2k

What you'll need:
CAB editor, such as OCP WinCE CAB Manager
Madkat's WM2k3 Boot Image Tool (attached)
Adobe Photoshop or other image editor
a compatible HTC device such as the Magician or Blue Angel
Summary:
Customized SplashX.nb files to be installed in \Windows directory of your device
Included:
Customizable Splash2.psd file for use with Adobe Photoshop
Steps:
1. Change the Splash2.psd file as necessary, then save a 24-bit BMP file called Splash2.bmp.
2. Use Madkat's Tool to convert the BMP file to an NB file.
3. Use the CAB editor to replace the Splash2.nb file with your version. WinCE CAB Manager may state an "Unspecified Error" when replacing the file. Instead, delete the original file, then drag the new NB file into the CAB file, hardcoding the \Windows folder as the install destination.
4. Save the CAB file and run it on your device!
Magician devices have only one splash screen, and it must be saved as Splash2.nb.
Blue Angel devices have two splash screens, Splash1.nb and Splash2.nb. Use the above steps to incorporate both splash screens as necessary.
Splash screens will be retained even after a hard reset, so use this after the Anansky's Big Storage hack, or if you just want to personalize your device, such as in the unfortunate event that it's lost or stolen - unless they know this trick, they won't be able to get rid of it!
Have fun!
Thanks mate works like a dream!!
Maybe it's just me, but I've read this post here and at Howardforums and I'm clearly missing something.
I've only ever used the nb_image_converter_859_418.exe to convert "any" bmp to the Splash2.NB file.
Then I drop that into my Windows Folder and use MDA3_bootimage_changer2.cab to apply the file. (Yes I'm using a Magician with this file!)
Soft reset and that's that. No need to do any cab file editing.
Cheers
Howard
PS. I've have both tools on my pc and can repost them, but they are from this site!

Tried that way myself a while ago but for some reason it refused to work for me? (could of been the fact i used a file called XDA2_bootimage_changer.CAB)?? anyway now I can use self contained cabs so I make some splash's for my friends

it must be me, but what cab file are we using here ?

If you don't like Bill's Stuff...
I wonder if anyone can put some help my way.....
I used the xda2 image changer before and I had custom images on my XDA2.
I use this and all I get is a black screen on startup. If I open the .nb file with the converter it shows as it should. (this same .nb works on my XDA2!)
I now have a plain black boot up screen!!
DOH!!!!
Any ideas......?
THanks
First i had the t-mobile splash... wich i didn't like.
Now, whatever bootsplash cab i make, or download here.. after running it, my bootscreen stays blank ( as in black ).
oh well... its an improvement over t-mobile pink
( or is it because i'm running an ancient rom : 1.01.00 WWE ?, only have the device for 3 days... will be upgrading this weekend tho )
Here are my 2 favourites Splashscreens.
The blue one ist for the silver Magician, the darker one is for the new O2 XDA mini (black edition).
Hi I've editted the o2 logo here's the jpg file
I tried to upload the psd so you can edit it but it doesn't work, to bad!
Step-by-step making your own splashscreen
Guys,
Simpler than this you will not find.
Goto

and find everything you need to know.
It worked perfectly for me...
Excellent information, real easy to do
this is mine:
Awesome...
I saw this before, but I have just tried it... and it is really cool 8) ... it gives the device a whole new look...
thanks BTT
My way to splash changer.
Hi,
I thanks to BTT for Splash Changer how to. But it is troublesome to everytime run WinCE cab manager in order to put Splash2.nb to the .cab file.
I try to remove Splash2.nb from the .cab file (and renamed the .cab to splash_changer.cab). Afterthat, put the Splash2.nb manually to \windows on PPC. Voila....., no need to everytime run WinCE cab manager!!!!!
Process:
1. Edit .bmp file to your like (Must be 240x320 pixels, 24bit).
2. Use nb_image_converter_859_418 to convert .bmp file to .nb, and change the .nb file to Splash2.nb.
3. Put Splash2.nb file directly to your \windows on PPC. You can do activesync and explore it.
4. Put splash_changer.cab to \temp for you to easier found it.
5. Run file explorer on PPC, and tap on splash_changer.cab.
6. Done! You can check by soft reset the PPC.
Hope it is helpful!

Arto.

Ok i will give you difrend guide (proper one):
1. Copy shellres.96.dll from \windows to your sd card (of my rom) and rename it to shellres.96.dll.0409.mui - if you replace the original file for this rom you may encounter unpredicted bugs thats why it is more safe to use mui file
2. Copy the file to your computer
3. Extract original resources to a folder using Resource Tuner(Resource Hacker can not extract them) or a similar program (the resources are icons 8,9,24 - 8 and 9 are exactly the same so you me skip extracting 9 but later you have to replace it too)
4. Open the old shellres.96.dll (you can get it from suns kitchen for example) extract the same resources into a difrend
5. Open the old and new resources with icon editor (i used ArtIcons - open all icons) and copy the new resources to the old ones which will give you old sized icons with new looks
6. Add the resources back to the mui file with Resource Hacker - you can also delete all other resources since they are not needed and they already are in shellres.96.dll
7. Sign the file with SignCode and proper certificate (i used SamplePrivDeveloper because it is privileged one - taken from wm6.1 sdk)
8. Now you can either copy the mui to windows folder or make a cab to do this for you.
setup xml will not work added your way because you add it as file and not as setting - but if you need to you can add it with WinCE Cab Manager as a provisioning xml info and it will add it to configuration
My fixes added to the second post
OK-X-Fix.cab uses the original resources of this build with proper size and they are edited a little by me to have better looks
OK-X-FixL.cab uses large resources - like in the rom but antialiased

Perhaps, you can ask Explode if this guide would apply to other phones.
Good Luck!
Do try to mod shellres96.dll, I tried on my blue angel running WM6.1 and it worked i just changed the startmenu icon. I dunno if this file is present in WM6.1 standard or not,

deleting font files from /windows folder (wm6.1)

long version:
I've tried to use the solution in here for my blackstone in order to fix the arab-numbers issue on my ppc.
I've downloaded the tahoma.ttf and tahomabd.ttf files
rename the existing files to tahoma.ttf_old and tahomabd.ttf_old
I copied the files from the sd to the /windows folder and SRed the device.
all the hebrew fonts were screwed and blank squares were shown where normally the letter would be,
I got worried, so I checked the "/windows" forlder and I've noticed new files were created.
so now I have 3 versions of each file in the folder:
for tahoma:
tahoma.ttf (original, was created after the SR)
TAHOMA.TTF (the one I copied from the SD, yes, its the same name only the letters are in different case)
tahoma.ttf_old (the backup of the font including hebrew letters)
same goes for tahomabd.
renaming the tahoma.ttf or TAHOMA.TTF is not possible not from normal file explorer, not from resco file explorer and not from total commander (pocket-version), deleting the files didn't work as well ("can't delete file" or "can't rename file" error).
the font on quick dial was ok.
I've figured the problem was that the files were in use, so I've searched the folowing thread which changes the windows fonts folder, so I copied the new version to the /windows/fonts folder and changed the registry value...
it worked, I can see hebrew and normal numbers when the font is set to "right to left", but the fonts are in the wrong folder and I can't delete or rename the new files... which brings me to the...
short version:
how can I delete/rename (and then delete after SR) the "tahoma.ttf", "TAHOMA.TTF", "tahomabd.ttf" or "TAHOMABD.TTF" files from my /windows folder so I can change them with my own font files?
any help would be appreciated.
p.s.
I'm NOT using a coocked ROM and I would like to avoid reset to factory settings... as I've been spending the past week to make the device behave just the way I like it...
thanks in advance
Deleting Fonts in WM6/WM6.1
Rename the filename extension ".ttf" (i.e.: "Tahoma.ttf" --> "Tahoma.bak")
Then delete the font file. That's it. No need to reboot.
If you still can't delete it, reboot your device..Then try deleting again.
I've made a cab with the fonts
you can just install it.. and it'll make the arab numbers disappear
btw, the fonts were edited by InfX
EDIT: use Resco Explorer, it will work
I'm stuck with the same problem. I want to replace tahoma.ttf with the Vista version of it. It gives better results with cleartype. It always worked fine until I installed a newer ROM. I don't really understand the solution. Could anybody pleasy make a cab to replace the Tahoma en Courier New fonts with the default ones from Vista? I would be extremely thankful.
just use QuickCAB 1.0 to create a cab with the new fonts.

Thanks. Will look into it.
Resco Explorer fixed the problem for me. Total Commander didn't work.

Toshiba Keyboard (manual install, no cab)

Hello,
for now you will only have a .ZIP file with the .dll to copy in the Windows folder of your TG01.
Install :
1°) Unzip
2°) the .REG file is in french, you can edit it and replace "Clavier Toshiba" with whatever you want (the name will appear in menus)
3°) Copy the dll file to your \Windows folder
4°) With some registry editor, apply the .reg
5°) delete the .reg
...
Use some tool like IMSelector to set Toshiba Keyboard as your default device.
See you !
