Hello, does anyone know where to buy a car holder for desire hd?
genuine - still not available, but you can buy some Universal Car Mount Holder, it will do the work jest fine
I ordered the HTC HD2 Brodit car holder as it has virtually the same dimensions ie width and thickness
Hey, can you let us know if the HD2 brodit holder fits ok with the Desire HD when you get it?
Thanks.
Yeah. Problem is though, when i get it
Is there going to be a good looking car holder from HTC itself??
not official yet, but we guess that htc will realse an car older - when ? - dono
Hello All.
I mailed Brodit and they dont have a release date for their HTC Desire HD holder.
I've used a few different manufacturers over the years and Brodit has been the best.
I would be very interested in knowing if the Brodit HD2 holder fits!
Regards,
Steve.
I e-mailed Brodit asking about the HD2 holder and it will NOT fit the DHD.
The HD2 holder was a very tight fit and the dimensions of the DHD are different.
Get your Dremmels out!
EDIT:
I have received the HD Brodit Holder 511198 from Morpeth Mobile.
Usual great service from Morpeth and high Brodit qualiity and excellent fit.
Regards.
Hope someone can confirm soon that the HD2 car holder fits the Desire HD too. That would make my (now) hard decition on changing my HD2 for a Android (Desire HD) or WP7 (What ever it might be) phone since I already have the active Brodit holder for my HD2.
Well I have been having a look at this hopefully it will be similair enough dimensions to fit the Desire HD.
I think you can't find better price
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.40745
Does that fit DHD? There are some millimeters difference in the sizes of DHD and EVO 4G, aren't there?

that will last precisely 3 minutes.....
I had one for a phone a while back from fleabay, .... not exactly high quality, they did send me another, that lasted a whole 1 day...
Dont waste your money.

I've got a Brodit HD2 mount and a generic desk charger, which I'm going to hang on to until I (eventually) receive my DHD. I'll let you know as soon as it's unpacked, whenever that may be....

Don't suppose this will be possible, as the Desire HD is almost a millimeter thicker (0.8mm to be precise), and millimeter wider, too. The HD2 holder is a pretty tight fit.
not sure if the HD2 brodit active holder fits the DHD because of the power supply...what is it anyways? mini usb? I don't think the power port on the DHD is in the middle of the unit.....so will have to wait and see...

They're both micro usb, but that power supply does look off centre.. Might be ok on a generic desk charger, but the Brodit mounts are tighter than a Nun's chuff so I can't see it fitting one of them...
Don't buy a cheap car holder for your $700 phone.
Buy these:

http://www.handtec.co.uk/product.php/36/herbert-richter-pda-grip
If you want a high quality German made car holder at a reasonable price.
I've been using these with my HTC TD2, the best car holder i've ever had.

Hi,
I also have an MDA compact IV and I've bought a Brodit carholder. Works perfectly. You can rotate the holder in any position, including landscape. It is also possible to tilt your phone. This is very useful when the sun shines onto your screen. This is the one I've bought:

Yeah, i also have the broadit (Active) holder with charger. i think its one of the best aftermarket holders out there..
Not the cheapest. but does the job well.
I wold say its about 90% of OEM starndard so not bad at all.
I use a DIY back plate to mount the holdr to the car.. they sell one for your make/model for about £15 but i thould i'd make my own.
EDIT:
Avoid the cheap holders, most of the time they disapoint and qulity is sub par.
Also. the brodit charger is not like the sync/charge cable supplied by htc, its a normal mini usb cable, so a standard USB mini cable will charge this also - just thought i'd mention it
I can confirm that the Brodit active mount holds my Touch Diamond in place well. As it is on swivel I can just turn it from portrait to landscape in an instant. As I also have GSen on the phone the display auto rotates when I do. Useful for Sat Nav sometimes
However I have read complaints that this mount is not so good with your T-Mobile version, because, as you know, it is a slightly different shape - I have read somewhere (can't remember where) complaints that it does not fit so well in the Brodit

My T-mobile MDA compact IV fits perfectly in the Brodit holder. No complaints from me.
I have an old active brodit holder, ya think I could get the passive holder for the diamond and use the old mini usb connector and "make it fit" somehow?
The price difference is so small it is not worth it. I got my active holder for less than £30 plus postage from fleabay. I think passive holder is only a few £ less.
The one's I've seen are more than double prize for active.
active 850-900 DKK vs 250-300 for passive
EDIT:
Checked e-bay:
Passive 16.95
Active cig 27.95
Active mol 42.95
So there's quite a difference

OUCH - I thought we were ripped off in the UK but those prices are ridiculous - £85 for an active Brodit mount! Especially when you consider that Brodit are just over the water from you!
Are you sure you are looking at the active holder, the one that just plugs into the cigarette lighter socket in your car, and not the built in one with the molen connector, which is more expensive (but still not that sort of price)? Or you could go onto ebay UK site or try http://www.expansys.com/ I am sure many would ship to Denmark and it would still be much cheaper.
it's the molen connector. that's what my old holder has, so I thought it was best to stick to the same, as the cable is already nicely tucked away behind the dash.
The cigarette one is like 600 DKK, still f'ing expancive.
I'm concidering the one from e-bay that is £28.95+6.00 shipping.

Your English is much better than my Danish!
My previous mount's wires were all hidden behind dashboard (professional instal). All I did was buy the active mount and then cut the curly lead and connector off and did the same with the old mount (after checking with meter that both had 5v supply to the mount!). Then crimped the wires together, insulating taped it all up, and hid the connection underneath the Brodit dasboard mount I had for my car. So still nicely hidden and no horrible wires dangling across dashboard
I bought the one with a cig plug from First2Save on e-bay, and it arrived today now I'll have to see if I can fit it on the old one somehow.
You know, the mini-USB connector is in a black plastic box thingy. On the old holder, it is possible to loosen two screws and remove the mini-USB cable. On the new one, it's glued together
Let the games begin!
So it's done
The old mini-USB connector, you can see the two holes from the screws
The mini-USB on the new holder. No screws.
It's not a piece of art, I could have been much more careful
The finished product, glued together again and mounted in the car.
It doesn't look too bad, even though I did rush it a little. It fits like a charm, and I can use the cig->mini-USB for something else, e.g. on the old holder and sell it on e-bay haha
Well done! Unfortunately I did not have that option because my previous PDA (Ipaq 6340) and holder did not use a mini-usb port, but instead its own proprietory connector. That is why I needed to check and make sure they were the same voltage before cutting and fitting.
As there is no bordit car holder for desire available yet, I was wondering if the holder for nexus will fit Desire as they are same size and shape? I am talking about the passive holder, so there is no issue of charging/microUSB position etc.
Anyone has tried this option so far?

I asked the same question, apparently the nexus one will not fit the desire, dsldevelopments.com will soon be stocking the brodit for the desire.
I have ordered the Nexus Brodit mount and it in fact does not fit as the Desire is 0.5mm wider and thicker.
So i have now ordered the Desire one from morpethmobiles.co.uk and should be receiving early next week so will post some pics

Are you sure they have it in stock? I had understood Brodit haven't released it yet.
EDIT: A Google search on the Brodit part number they have used 511126 show it also for the Nexus One, so I don't think this is the new one specially for the Desire. car-mounts.co.uk are doing the same thing, using the same part number for both phones.
I bought the passive holder from Brodit (the one for the Nexus) and it fits perfectly the Desire!
Regards
I am very curious when the active holder will be available for the Desire. It seems like part no. 512116 is used for it, but that is the same as the one for the Nexus One..
Hi,
As per my lengthy post here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=664197&page=4
I strongly advise against ordering an Active one as suppliers are in fact delivering a Nexus One Active holder, not a true HTC Desire Active holder.
To summarise my other post, the charger part of it will NOT fit the HTC Desire unless you're prepared to modify it.
Guys,
Check out item 512141 on brodits website.
Its coming and I cant wait.
http://www.brodit.com/productinformation.jsp?anr=512141
Hopefully they will do the proper install version like the Touch HD had. Curly wire and lighter socket is a mess.. but I like the design of the holder.
I only needed the passive one and I already have the Proclip. Managed to get part 510126 from Mobile Fun. It is the Nexus version and I was a bit worried, as the Desire is slightly wider, if it could scratch the edges of the phone. Needn't have worried. This is the padded version so the phone does not rest on hard plastic. Very happy with it.

They do fit pretty snug, not sure it would fit with a gel case, as my does not have any extra room either side.

When you say it's 'passive' does that mean it activates the car kit mode when you mount it?
On the Desire Navigator and Car Dock (is that what it's called) aren't installed although you can push them. I wonder if it would work the same way?

Thanks, is the holder padded at all? I can see the one above has some kind of padding but I am unsure if the desire mounts will come with it, hopefully they do.

Passive means that it does not have a power connector, it just holds the phone.
Brodit active holder now available?
Seems the satus has been updated from "Coming soon" to this.
Anyone know where to order?
just got an email that mine was shipped from here
http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/brodit-active-holder-with-tilt-swivel-htc-desire-512141-p24284.htm
The swedish car dock/phone holder maker brodit.se confirmed to me via email earlier today that they are working on a car dock/holder for the Z, but he couldn't say how soon it would hit the market.
I use a brodit.se for my G1, and I love it - so much better (both looking and functionality, i.e. it stays in place, guaranteed) than sunction cup solutions or ventilation clip holders.
̃ Christopher
sounds great! Can you get one and test it for me? =)
brodit.se tend to be pretty quick to make car docks whit chargers for htc phones. I'm guaranteed to procure me one. I'm sitting in the truck throughout the hole work day so I need it
then I have ordered the car dock with charger ..
http://twitpic.com/34p7xl 95,38$ delivery on door.
Got mine today, went for the Active Holder Tilt Swivel With Cig-plug. Early impressions are it's really solid and just what I was looking for, good quality charger with it as well. Would deffo recommend it to anyone who is after a powered car mount for the Z/G2
Got mine from DSL Developments who's service was spot on. Ordered 3PM on Monday, was in my hand Tuesday morning.
Could anybody confirm if it's still possible to put a phone to one of these chargers with any of protective hard or soft cases added? Or it just fit's in "naked"??

I would think you would not be able to get it in there with a case on, it's a pretty tight fit, and non adjustable.
Sorry, but it won't fit if there's any sort of cover attached, there's absolutely no additional room.
I found out that my new Z actually fits in my Brodit passive (no charger) G1/Dream holder, so I won't order a new holder just yet. For some reason they have chosen to not release a passive holder which rotates, which I think sucks - even though you're not supposed to text in traffic, I did sometimes, when stuck in traffic or at red lights, send of quick messages or emails, and it's so much easier IMO to work on the physical qwerty keyboard in landscape than the on-screen portrait keyboard.
The old G1 holder does swivel, but unfortunately the keyboard is not possible to open while the Z is in the holder.
~Christopher
Got my active Brodit holder a few days ago, fits the Desire-Z absolutely perfectly, and their matching car mounting plate is great for my vehicle too. Their stuff may not be cheap, but it's far-and-away the best on the market.
Andre
Do you guys think my DZ will fit in the Brodit active holder when it has a full body protector?
Sorry, no. Brodit mounts fit the phone just as snugly and perfectly as any of the covers do, but because of that they don't give any extra gaps around the phone.
Andre
I have mine for a weeknow. Fits perfectly like every Brodit i had before !!
can the desire z recognize if it is in a car dock when putting it into the active brodit mount?
I want to use tasker to enable gps when the Phone is in the mount.
Don't think so,
You could just say:
If not near home + charging then -> Activate GPS + activate car controls
or something

There's some stuff in the DZ user guide about the phone being able to recognise if it's in a car dock. No idea how it does this though.
I consider getting this: http://www.brodit.com/montering.jsp?anr=512200
I never used their products, so I have a few questions for those of you who already puchased one.
1. Do I need to buy a "Pro-Clip" designed for my car, is it already in the package, included in the price, or maybe I can just mount the holder as it is whithout other clips? It's not so clear to me how to mount it...
2. If I need screws, clips and stuff like that (as I see on the instructions) will I be able to quickly dismount the holder e.g. to use it in another car, without tools?
3. I would prefer the same product, but with a sucction cup for easy mounting on the windshield. Can I find a model like that, or a "Pro-Clip" for windshield mounting etc.?
4. Will I be able to use the audio jack, or is it covered?
5. Finally, can I adjust the holder position a little (upwards, downwards, left, right), or is it fixed? I understand that I can tilt it o have the phone in landscape, but are there other adjustments possible (with or without using screwdrivers or other tools)?
Thanks!
1. You will need a pro-clip for your car. Some online retailers bundle them in, you'll know because they ask you what car you're installing it in before you checkout.
2. You can get a Move Clip which enables you to slide the holder in and out of the pro-clip. For example: http://www.brodit.com/productinformation.jsp?anr=213005&sortiment=s800
3. Not that I know of.
4. The audio jack is not covered.
5. You can swivel it, rotate it, slide out the keyboard, everything. You don't need tools to do it.
Thanks for the answer!
So, basically, I install a ProClip designed for my car, then over it I mount the Move Clip, and on the Move Clip I mount the actual phone holder? Just checking to see if I got this right, so I can order those three products...
I don't like it too much mounted over the A/C vents, but the actual phone holder seems to be the best available. If there really is no choice to get a windshield ProClip, I'll go with the this Central Mounting here: http://www.brodit.com/montering.jsp?anr=852285
I'll have to change my car in a few months and I'll get another ProClip then, but still be able to use the holder - that is good.
i ordered the active mount from brodit and for mounting it in my car i got a car mounting kit with the possibility to mount the dock to the wind shield.

hey guys what do you think is better a vent mount or a sticky one for the windshield?
i bought from eBay an air vent mount, didn't received it yet, anybody here got the chance to use it? is it any good?
plus, do you think mounting it on the vent and turning AC cooling on will damage the device? i think the opposite because it will cool the battery instead of baking in the sun with a windshield mount.
I have used two windscreen mounts.
Both was broken whilst I tried to adjust the angle of the phone after mounting it in the car.
they were both having a quality worser than a toy.
In a worst case scenario the phone might not get any or GPS signals.
I have used an airvent mount with a few of my other phones. One great advantage is the A/C keeps the phone cool when running the GPS.
you're absolutely right.
air vent mount is the best.
i bought one from eBay and very pleased with it!
very solid and the device gets a cool breeze

Air vent is the best
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA Premium App
yeah it is.
2 weeks and holding very good.
Also vent mounting gets me close to where I can stick a short unobtrusive lead into the aux of my audio unit .
vent mounts are too dangerous, if you break the vent your looking at spending a lot to get it fixed on your car, i prefer the exomount which is universal and sticks/ sucks to anything. You can even mount your tablet!
Windscreen mount is what I have. Works perfect and I travel so I take it with me! for under 10.00 and for 2.40 more you get 3 years warranty on it?! thats madness.
http://www.factorydirect.ca/catalog/product_spec.php?pcode=KR0005
I bought Herbert Richter vent mount and universal in car holder from holdersandmounts.co.uk great quality holder for £14. Very happy with it
Duncan
arkon car holder
try arkon slimgrip sm415
after doing a lot of research i found this one to be a good fit, you can access power button and volume button as well as rotate to different angles. Also comes with a handy plate to place on dash to attach to if you dont want to attach to windscreen (ie out of the way of view) It is universal so you can use it for other devices too!
If you're after windscreen suction mount, than Herbert Richter mounts are definitely worth every penny.
I had trouble finding a vent mount that fit my car as it had awkward vent shapes, I ended up going for a custom made Brodit Tilt Swivel holder that affixes to my dash, so now it sits in the perfect place and is adjustable, recommended.
It came in two parts, the custom made "arm" that fits to the dash, and the more generic holder that you fix to the arm.
Air vent is best.
And if it´s 35 degrees it´s cooling the device.
This might not be the best, but it's darn cheap and I've been happy with it for about 65 months! http://www.dealextreme.com/p/plasti...car-charger-for-htc-desire-hd-dc-12-24v-50845
The car charger sadly broke a while ago, but that is available without it also. I just ordered a universal usb charger and additional micro-usb cable to charge at car. Navigation consumes a f***-load of battery.
Definitely recommend Brodit mounts. Very solid and well made.

well an extra request from my front.
Been checking but might have not checked enough.
Is there a holder, preferably HR, with a speaker inside?
Ive been using a CAPDASE Car Mount Holder and it seems to be pretty sturdy.
Would definately reccomend it.
I am also looking for a car mount. I will be going for air vent mount, due to temperatures and wont block the road. Can some one suggest good air vent mount ? I am also looking for car charger, which is best in terms of power delivery ? Is the HTC car charger CC C200 any good ? Or is there any special one for Desire HD from HTC ?
Hi all,
Just wanted to upgrade that after spending a fair bit on an iPhone 5 brodit holder only to sell the phone for a GS3 and purchasing a GS3 holder (for skins), I really did not want to splash out more £££ for a S4 holder if and when it comes out from Brodit.
So today I tried the GS4 in the holder. Because of the small change in height between the two versions, the S4 fits perfectly in the S3 Brodit holder. I use the holder for skins which has no grip from the sides but instead a charger port at the bottom and a spring loaded clip at the top.
Charges fine so no issues there - also I >think< the ciggy plug is 2a anyway so it charges pretty quickly
Give me a shout if anyone has any questions about it.
Oh the plug is not made to tell the S4 it's in car-mode so all that is manual. I have an NFC tag at the back of the holder that used to switch the S3 into Driving Mode so I can do something similar for the S4 instead of spending money on another holder which would only potentially add the auto-dock functionality.

Hello,
Thank you for you feedback. Can you post pictures of your Brodit holder with the S4 ? Do you have a link for the Brodit holder ?
Thank you.
I was about to post to see if anyone had tried the S4 in various S3 holders. I have a brodit setup in my car now for my old Nexus S and I wanted to upgrade it for the S4. I emailed proclip and they said they are working on the S4, but don't have a release date. If the S3 works, I'll get that now. A bonus is that my wife has an S3 so she can use it too. One issue with the case friendly holder is that it's $110. That's a little steep. I didn't have a case on my Nexus S, so I was able to use the normal holder that does grip on the sides. The S3 and S4 are a little different in this regard, so not sure that the S3 normal holder for $60 would work.
The other (cheaper) option I've been looking at is to get the iBolt xProDock for $40 plus AMPS mounting plate ($7) to connect it to the brodit vehicle adapter. Seems like there would be an extra step involved with attaching the charging cable each time, but you wouldn't have to connect audio by aux/bluetooth like you do with the brodit/proclip holder. It's also $70 cheaper.
Has anyone else tried the S4 in S3 docks meant to be used without cases?
sorry for the delay
So the one I got was part number: 512409 and was purchased from Brodit but of their eBay UK site (I'm in the UK)
It's the one that allows skins though works fine with the s-view case as long as you fold the "lid" back behind the phone. I had the same with the S3 with a similar case. Also has the charger built into this one and charges quickly without any issues.
Here are a couple of pics

Actually looking at this pic, it looks like the screen protector is peeling at the top, it is not and the protector does not even cover that bit. I think it's a bit of fluff in the flap for the case that's been folded back so don't worry :- )

Passive holder is already out, and so I'm guessing active holder can't be that far behind.
Must have only just come out but remember the passive one you linked does not allow skins or any type of case on the phone so if you have one, you would have to remove it to then slide into the holder.
The GS3 one I posted above allows skins - as you can just about see, I have the s-view case on but you can have the clip on cases too
