How many GPS threads do we need?
OP, do a search or just look at the threads here and you will know Captivate GPS is still broken.
Oh, I donno... I just went from Sacramento to San Francisco, found some obscure street in Daly City, drove to pick up a motherboard in Elk Grove then drove back here this morning... and never lost myself on Google Maps.

Just looking to see what anyone from my area is pulling in signal wise. Not 3G but call signal. In my driveway im pulling in 0-2 bars, same with inside my house. When I was on Sprint my call bars were always full but my data constantly sucked. Now with Verizon my data is constantly awesome but my call quality/signal strength sucks to the point of static on some calls and text messages not being delivered/recieved.
Ive taken my phone into the local store and the sales rep there let me use his phone briefly to take past my house/driveway so I could see if this was an issue on his as well and sure enough, his Tbolt had 1 bar. So I called a tech and was on the phone with him for almost an hour doing checks on things etc,and found my phone was hovering between -91 and -101dBm which is rather bad lol. So Verizon extended my 14 day period alittle longer until a truck roams thru my neighborhood to test the signal. This is kinda bothering me since my area is one of the many slated to get 4G on June 16th
No idea where this is, but in Kenosha I have almost no signal unless I'm downtown by the Metra stop

Hartland/Pewaukee area here. Usually have zero problems unless I'm inside my apartment. 3-4 bars of 3G are the norm in every area of SE WI for me.
I live in West Allis, and work in Menomonee Falls... No issues.. signal is a little weak but I tether all the time while at work and it's fine.
I'm near Silver Spring and Pilgrim.
I have my bike here today, I could swing by your area and see if I have the same issues... PM me some cross streets or something.

Pretty much all the way up Appleton ave starting at Pilgrim up to the Marcus Cinema by Target (just short of Hwy Q) it hovers between 2 and 1.
Thing is, I have had a few techs tell me that the data signal and call signal are not the same thing. My data speeds are fine,ALOT better then Sprint, but its my calling signal thats off. I finally had the results of my ticket told to me today. Seems my area is going to not be an easy fix. There is an issue and supposedly the network team is on it, but something to do with living between 2 towers my phone is struggling to pick a dominate tower so its trying to pick one (or something like that, I was half asleep when he called back lol)
I wonder. When people were having issues with Sprint they would sometimes send them an Airwave unit to boost the signal in their homes for free. I wonder if Verizon would do the same since there IS a problem in my area. Off to research I go..Thanks everyone

Thank ya!!! I just got off the phone with tech support again and its noted on my account that they recommend a Network Extender but the best the rep will do is take off 50% of the cost of it. While its a decent offer, im still on the fence about it since I have to purchase it to be able to get a decent signal
You should get it for free, if it's their issue....

Indeed, that was exactly my thinking. Sprint was tossing people Airwaves left and right for free if they had issues, guess everyone telling me that Verizon will "nickle and dime" me for everything has some merit. Too bad my trial period ended last night (it was extended until the results of my ticket were in).
I am just curious of other people experience with T-Mobile's reception in Scottsdale or Phoenix Arizona. I have been with T-Mobile for many years with many phones and I always have had this problem, I know this is the G2x forum, but I am using a G2x so guess it is ok to ask here. Almost any department store I go into I lose my T-Mobile signal. I see many other people on their phones talking with no trouble at all. As soon as I leave the store my signal goes right back up to full.
See my sig for my phone info.
Thanks !
I'm in Arizona North Scottsdale to be more specific and I have little to no issues

never had problems anywhere across the valley and i go virtually everywhere reffing soccer...
keep in mind, tmobile uses high frequency bands which do not penetrate buildings well... you should at least get an edge signal though....
Maybe you should try out a different sim? I heard there were problems a while back with certain cards.
I live in Peoria near the lake I get spotty 4g h whatever you want to call it but I get edge at least and inside buildings.

Signal is ok for me. In Tucson now. But I lose signal in my apartment very disappointing but it's not as terrible as when I had it in NJ.
When I was in milwaukee WS, best signal ever. I miss my time there but weather and warmness in Arizona is something I look forward to.
I live in Gilbert and used to work in N. Phoenix. I have only noticed one truly dead spot on I-10 where I consistently lose a signal.
Buildings I tend to lose signal as I move further inward.
U can try diff basebands

I have try the original that came with the phone. Ucle2. Uclf6. And none seem to work in the basement i guess is not equipment or software it must be coverage.
I get frustrated when I see coworkers using their Verizon phone without any problem

att might just have bad reception in your basement. if it's a problem for you get a microcell http://www.att.com/standalone/3gmicrocell/. some times if you call and complain about reception in your home they will discount the cost of one.
I had to buy my micro cell. It works dam good. Couldn't get signal where I lived it gave me 5 full bars. If you leave att or don't have an account it wont work. If your looking for one I'm selling mine. Went prepaid and don't have att account. Pm me for details

That microcell looks very promising, my mom gets very poor service in her home, and though I couldn't find what it costs, she said she would drop her home phone if she got better home coverage, so it should negate whatever it does cost.

One thing to keep in mind with repeaters/cell boosters though is that your signal will only be as good as what the booster is getting despite what your phone shows. For example if your Booster has a -95 dBm signal at the roof then even if your phone shows -68 dBm while at the other end you are still just getting the -95dBm so your 5 bars is just your signal to the booster not the actual cell network
MicroCell
I was really lucky. I got a letter from AT&T to come on down and pick one up, all I had to do was keep my cell contact for 12 months, I had just signed a new one for 2 years anyways.
Went from 1-2 bars to 4-5 on my SR and my wifes Apple 3gs.
IF you can get one do. But keep in mind that the way it works is that you have to set it up with and get a GPS signal. Then it will use your internet connect to make and receive calls while your phone is on the MicroCell. I have never really seen any issues either with my call performance or internet speeds while on the phone.

I spend a lot of time in a convention center, aka concrete box, for work. This phone gets really bad reception when I am at work. I can connect to wi-fi so data is not a problem. But i miss so many calls it is ridiculous. And to add to the pain I do not get good reception at my house. I have talked to Sprint and they look at the coverage map, then tell me my home and work have great cell coverage. Might as well talk to a wall. At my house I have an Airave, still drop calls left and right. I am rooted, debloated, but not running any custom rom. Is there something I am missing? Like the phone, actually love having a physical keyboard, but am going nuts with the poor cell reception. Do other phones, Galaxy S4, have any better cell reception? Or do all Sprint phones have similar antennaes in them? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance
I think the phone's antenna is a really bad one. I live in germany and I've got a sim-modded one from cornholio. when other phones get weak reception my phone gets "no service" (same provider). inside buildings it can get really annoying. I'm so glad I live in a major city xD

I've noticed this phone always wants to connect @ 3G. Try switching to 2G. It doesn't matter for calls so why not use it as a workaround? When I need fast internet I just toggle back to 3G.
I've got an automatic 2g/3g toggling app installed. so I talk about bad 2g reception xD
thanks for the recommendation anyway

I have that same issue, and when im on 2G and lost signal phone never catch signal back, best and only option is keep turn on 3G but area where we use phone must be with good coverage.
But ... i have second photon moded in PL in diffrent way and this phone dont have this issue with signal 2G and also have better 3G signal.. but realization not looks so good its uglier (and slot for sim is not push-to-push )
Welcome to Sprint. I've gone through 4 different phones they all can't be Bad.

its sprint service, I live In michigan near detroit and out here sprint blowz I modded my photon with The aid of Cornholios Mod, and currently using it on straight talk with an AT&T sim service is nearly as good as Verizons, save for the CM10.2.1 3G handshaking Problem and the Buggy CM everyday issues, but the Cell service couldnt be better under AT&T, Id say stick to a reseller of their service and u will see a vast service improvement
Why start a new thread?
I had one of these back in October when I moved to Colorado. I don't quite recall, but I'm pretty sure my service was okay. I am now on my second Q since the first one started having pixelated display issues, and nothing I could do would fix it...I eventually took the thing apart trying to get to the connections, and while successful, I still ended up with crappy display so I am thinking there was an issue with something on the board.
Now i have a 'new' one and for the life of me I get 3g service maybe once or twice a day. I was thinking about bootloader unlock and flashing to a different ROM. I'd also like to find a way to see 'real-time' what the different radios are doing/not doing.
So what do you all think? New ROM?
I have had this issue with a few of my phones over the years. Especially the HTC Touch Pro 2 (Rhodium).
In the Sim Modding Process it is possible that a few of the connectors on the mother board to get slightly bent and loose contact with the (black brass stick on ribbons that are stuck to the outside of the phone body. If you take the phone back panel off you will see these ribbons, they are stuck on the case around the battery.
I have some photo's of where the aerials are on the Photon but need to get to 10 posts before I can post them.
There is four different sets of aerials (Data Main, Voice Main, Bluetooth Wifi and GPS) pull your phone apart and make sure the contact on the mother board are in full contact with the ribbons. Do this by bending them up, when you put the phone back together they should be pushing hard on the contacts again.
hey everyone.
this has been asked before im sure, but i didnt find any recent threads.
i am moving across the country soon. will be in a pick up truck, not a moving truck. i will be going through alottttt of areas with no cell coverage, and where im moving i get 1 bar. i forgot to check the db when i was just out there. I am on AT&T (with a note 3 if it matters).
anyway, i was looking at this booster set up.
http://www.ubersignal.com/wilson-460...-carriers.html
on the wilson site, it says only use the antenna that comes with it. its a magnet mount, but i want something more perminant. does the antenna matter much? can i use a window mount antenna? would a cb antenna be better? also, what else can i add to make my signal as strong as possible, or is that booster the best i can use and cant make it stronger? diy solutions are very welcome
once our house is built, im either going to get a microcell or outdoor antenna to help.
thanks all
Noone has any ideas??
