Stock Recovery - Droid 2 Android Development

Idk if someone already found this but i thought i would post it anyway you can get into the stock recovery by
1. pressing and holding the x key on the keyboard
2. without letting go of the x key turn on the phone
up to here its the same as the droid 1
3. you should get a yellow triangle and android logo to show up
simply press the search key on the keyboard srry
4. and your in

Seems to work ok but pressing the search button does nothing for me... just sits there and does nothing. Have to pull battery to reset. I must be missing something... ??

You may have done it this way but...
You have to hit the physical search button on the keyboard

Wow, its always the simple things.
Yes, make sure you use the search button on the slide out keyboard, not the one on the bottom right of the screen. That was my problem now it works fine.
Thanks vampire

lol srry for got to say it was on the keyboard my bad

Please search before you post or at least skim the topics to save from having lots of double posts, thanks.

I have come across this problem as well... a quick fix is pressing the search button on your dock... this should allow you to enter words while hitting the space key...
also, don't think this belongs in the dev section =)

[Q] Replacing the Sense 3.0 Keyboard

I have never had a problem changing android keyboards until trying to change the keyboard on the HTC Sensation for my girlfriend. She hates the Sense 3.0 keyboard and wants to have a keyboard similar to the default gingerbread keyboard. I try to activate the keyboard through the Language and Keyboard settings and that would appear to be fine. Any keyboard I download always shows up and I can select it. However, when I go to enter text into a text message field I can not figure out how to change the keyboard there. I do not see any button to press to change the settings there like there is in regular android. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks.
you need to tap & hold in an input field & select input method to change the keyboard
When I tap and hold I get nothing. I either get the letter to pop up that I press or if I press in an area to enter text I just get an option to paste. I never see anything to change input method. It is very frustrating.

Same. I think it might be because there is no other keyboard installed on the device.
after downloading the Swype installed did you run it, log in & then install Swype itself?
I have Swype and FlexT9, and I can change input method with no problems.

No. It is not. Swype is not included with this device at all. (if you didn't know)

on this subject, ive been looking EVERYWHERE for the froyo sense 2.1 keyboard with the nav arrows on the bottom, but it isnt packaged as an APK...i pulled it from my HD2, but can't push it due to no root, and ADB isnt working :/
anyone have a copy of it, or can point me in the right direction?
(and yes, i searched, but all posts related DONT have the nav arrows)
also, a basic form of swype IS built into the stock keyboard for sensation, i use it once in a while. also, its right in the users manual too ;P

No. There is a big difference between HTC's trace input and real Swype. They are not the same just because they do similar things.

i like that you'd rather prove me wrong on a subtle technicality, rather than help me.
done with this thread.
Well it works for everyone else. Seems to me like it is user error. Master reset.

Reinstall swype
Htc Trace imo is not near as good as swype I have swype installed on mine and it works fine ---as does the htc trace I just hard press message field and select which one I prefer swype or android keyboard---I would uninstalled and reinstall swype I am using beta 3.0 and loving it --
I am still getting used to android but for me I noticed that you always have to install and configure keyboards before you can use them. Assuming you have downloaded a keyboard go to your aps and launch it. Both swype and SwiftKey had a rather complex but easy to follow setup guide. It should walk you through the setup. Then it should be as mentioned earlier, just do a long press on text field and you should see the option for text input. From there you should see all your installed and enabled options.

I had this exact same problem and it was frustrating the **** out of me. I solved it by rebooting the phone. All the way, don't just turn it off and on again, your fastboot settings will keep everything the same and you still won't see the option to change your input method. Pull the battery if you have to. Just make sure it's all the way off then all the way on again. Worked for me, and I am now happily using the real swype.

Access Multitasking ICS?

Hey,
I'm running ICS rom on my HTC Desire and the home button randomly stopped working :/ . My question is, if there is anyway to access multitasking on ICS without pressing and holding the home button. Like a shortcut or app or something. I understand that you can force close apps other ways, but I need to get to that multitasking swipe screen.
Many thanks in advance

You can re-map the multitasking button to search
Just search "search to recent apps"

Forgot to mention that the search button doesnt work either, and I was hoping do something simple instead of root related. Thanks anyway

Thank you for your generous help! But I have somehow fixed the buttons (it turned out it was a software not hardware problem).
Thanks again anyway
you can add activite shortcut then set the activty to multitasking application activity
Apex Launcher can let you make shortcuts to recent apps
Also, Button savior works great
You can try this tutorial to get virtual buttons if your up to it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1364757

Disable home screen button when keyboard open??

I did some searching to see if this was possible on android and couldn't find any good info.
I am still not used to onscreen keyboards and on the One S in particular I keep hitting the home button when I type (it has happened twice since I started writing this)
Am I the only one with this problem? Does anyone know of a way to disable the home button when the keyboard is up?
Thanks
Sent from my HTC One S using xda app-developers app
It seems like a good idea, but is probably very hard. The home button is kinda coded to work the same way always, regardless of what app is open
Yea I kinda pressed the home button too at first but just practice typing without trying to hit the home button and you should be all set, its not easy to type without pressing the home button but it takes some time to get used to...

It's damn near impossible! Been using touchscreen keyboard on different phones for years (how I miss my G1), and never had this problem...I feel like Homer trying to phone his children in that one episode of the Simpsons...."mash the keypad to continue"
Try SwiftKey keyboard, it detects where spaces go so you don't need to press space

Thanks for your input ... I am not looking for an app as most of them filled with silly ads or taking unnecessary resaurces ... I need to mod system to remap some key to take screen shots ... And I guess you're right it's somewhere around /system/usr/keylayout
Afaik not possible in stock but aokp/cm9+10 allows that remap in settings

There is an app called "screenshot er" that lets you take screenshots by holding down the search key, and it has a delay that you can set for however long you want, and it works amazingly well. No extra crap, just a really good app. I know it's not what you want, but it's worth checking out.

i agree with atrix ive used then Screenshot er app before the remmaping became available and works flawless
The power button and home key works for screen shots

I know this is an old thread, but all the screenshot remapping threads seem old, so I'm hoping I can get some help here anyway. My stock ICS on my S2 has home+power for screen shots. Hardware buttons died (home, menu, back, search) so i use softkeys to navigate, (Button Savior, works amazing, saved me a major headache) never the less, the screen shot doesn't work by pressing power and the home soft key. I've used other roms, like CM, where the screenshot is power+vol down and i want to use this method on my stock ICS. I to, don't want an app to do it, i just want power+vol down
Been trying to use xposed additions to remap for screenshot. not working so far and unsure of reasoning why, even bought the pro version to allow a multi step action to occur
