I have voice dialing over BT with 2.1. I am wondering why some are saying it is not there. Unless the wireless BT function in my car operates in a different manner. doesn't that use BT for voice dialing? That would have been a deal breaker for me if I could not dial over BT in the car/
How do you use it? I'm interested! I have a cheap Jabra earpiece; with my old Nokia dumbphone I just pressed the button on the earpiece, and I would get an audio "prompt"; saying the name of the contact would trigger dialing.
Pushing the same button now does not seem to work with the Captivate.

Most car BT has its own voice dialing feature. It doesn't depend on phone's voice dialing feature.

This will install newest bt stack.
I should also ask which ROM you're using. The newer ROMs seem to be a lot better.
I'd also like anyone who could to tell me which BT stack is included on the newer ROMs, like Nitro or vjgrace.

my ROM is WM6 by vjgrace v3.4
Again I could describe my Nokia BH-101 BT headset with handsfree functionality on WM6 by vjgrace v3.5. It works nice as headset i can hera incoming calls, answer them, call last dialed number. But I CAN NOT make it start voice calling, due to device itself - it does sounds special tone that means that voice dial is started, but my phone does not recognise it. by the way useing celetask - there is special feature - that alows you to redirect all sound to headset and it work. As for me i don't need it (you are to have special BT Headset for listening to music. This headset generates rather bad sound(but not voice).
So again
I can do:
makle calls,
answer calls,
dial last dialed call.
swap and hold calls.
I can not do:
make voice dial
any voice commands
What are the problems:
Everytime I answer the call not by the headset but via the phone it looses the connection with headset, so i need to restart BT service (or headset).
It happens even if I answer by headset but during the call i need to speak via phone then i press right softkey and choose "turn handsfree off" and aain phone looses the headset
In this case I I make new call but in right soft key menu "turn handsfree on" is not active
If it's possible to make phone speak contact's name litterally during incoming call so i could know who is calling me.
IRC, voice dialling with WM phones is a bit of a problem. I seem to recall reading about this somewhere in the XDA-Dev forums.
On my headset, the function that calls for redial is the same for voice dial (wtf? I know.) It always redials.
As for the speaking of the contacts' names, it should be possible... if your phone can speak the contacts' recorded voice names w/o BT.
Hi,
Does anyone know of a bluetooth carkit that uses the sound from the carkits microphone to pass to the phone for voice dial?
I notice a lot of carkits do the voice recognition themselves and do not pass the sound to the phone.
many thanks
LM
I've been trying out a few different sip soft phones. I can't get bluetooth to work with any of them though including 3cx, sipdroid, and csipsimple. The headset connects and the clients will all let me switch to bluetooth but I hear nothing in the headset. The other party usually hears a small faint garble sound when I talk.
I'm using an original jawbone and a D1 running LFY1.7. Testing is being done over my wifi, the softphones work great when not on blue tooth and the jawbone works fine on cellular calls. Is there a particular bluetooth protocol that the old jawbone doesn't support that I need or something?
Hi All,
All my searches on trying to find a resolution of Nexus S not working with Bluetooth voicedial have come up short.
Here's the problem:
I have tryed with multiple bluetooth devices.
The headset pairs fine.
The headset works fine when carring a conversation.
When holding the Voice dial on the BT Headset the "Blue Tooth Voice Dialer" prompt pops up on my nexus S
At which time it just does nothing. Like it doesnt even hear me speaking into the BT headset.
When I use the Voice Dial feature without Bluetooth it works fine, but whenever using a Bluetooth Headset (No Matter Which One) it will never dial a number.
Does everyone else have this issue on their Nexus S? If not, what is the difference between your set and mine? I'm just at a loss why the Nexus S will not work with Voice Dialing over Bluetooth.

Nokia BH-600 (an oldie, I know) works fine with voice dialing. This isn't particularly helpful, but it does work with some headsets.
When you hit the voice dial button do you get the "Speak Now" prompt in the BT headset?
Everything works except if I hit my button on my band new Bluetooth headeset. I got it working by using Clinton as my default for voice dialing. It works with the Bluetooth headset.

Hi,
I've just sold my G3 and the more I read the more I like the idol 3.
But I have one concern I can not solve.
as a motorbike rider I need to be able o initiate calls from the headset on the helmet.
does any one have tested this.
use the headset not just for paying music but also to start the voice assistant and say things like "call dad". "text carla" "play all songs"
The really important part is the calling texting is just for change the command.
can any one try that?
Thank you

Just to be more specific, are your headset for a motorbike helmet? which ones? cardo, btxnet....
Not sure if they use the same protocols, although they should.
Thanks

No they aren't; one is a taotronics earphone, other is an LG tune pro headset and the other one is a sennheiser headphone. I click a button and just talk with Google Now. I have this app setup to allow Google Now (instead of stock voice calls) to be my voice assistant. The app is called BT Gnow. Is great for handsfree operations specially when I'm running cable drops... With Google Now you get over 100 voice commands and with BT Gnow you can do it with the screen off via Bluetooth.

Using BT Gnow does google's response come back through the bluetooth speakers? When in my car I can say "ok google, call xxxx at home" and it will but I can hear it responding from the phone but the sound doesn't come through the car's audio...once the phone call starts ringing the sound DOES come through the speakers.

Google response is heard via Bluetooth and not the cellphone: So say I have my LG headset paired, I can talk and hear everything from my LG headset using Google now.
One more question.
finally I bought the idol 3 and I'm loving it.
but with the headset when I press the button to activate voice recognition
I've got a grey screen that sais something like "starting" or "inizializing" (sorry my phone is configured in spanish)
and also through the headset I hear a voice that sais wait.
I've waited many minutes but nothing happends do you know what is going on there?
