[Q] Restoring System Apps - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

Looking for help on how to reinstall a few system apps on my 2.2 OTA DroidX. I used root explorer and am able to reinstall bloatware (e.g. Blockbuster.apk) to my /system/apps/ dir and install them, but when I try and re-install anything system, like Messaging.apk, FriendFeed.apk, etc, I get an "Application not Installed Message".
Any ideas? Do I need to reflash?

How to recover apps?

I know this is probably a very basic question, but I'm a noob. When you install a new rom, how do you recover your apps?
I generally back them up with App Manager, but then I have to re-install each app individually. Is there any way to just recover them after flashing a new rom without having to install each one individually?
Thanks.
I use Astro to back up my apps. When installing a new ROM, just install Astro, go to menu - app management and you can easily get them all back.
I tried 'backup for root users' and it was a big FAIL. Does not seem to work at all ...
The Astro file manager app can be used to back and restore all your apps at once I believe. After installing a new ROM, grab Astro from the Market and it should read your backed up apps on the sdcard, which you can then restore all at once.
I haven't done this myself but I've read that it shoulr work the way I've described.
Awesome, I'll give Astro a try.

any way to grab settings, notes, etc. from apps?

So, I just recently rooted and installed cyanogenmod 7 on my htc droid incredible. I know that I had to wipe and delete everything in order to install everything. I tried backing up my apps with an app called backupeverything. Well, besides not being able to find it on the market (I was able to find an apk online and install it), every time I try to restore the apps, it doesn't work. I know the apps I need, the issue I'm running into is: is there any way I can recover settings, notes (like from springpad, notepad, etc.) from my phone?
Just go into /data/data and copy the apps folder using a file explorer then put it on sdcard and then on computer and from there you can apply that data into roms by default or do whatever

[Q] Cannot re-install My Files using Titanium Backup?

Samsung Galaxy Ace, 2.3.6, rooted.
Uninstalled several system apps using Titanium Backup. Successfully re-installed some of them, like samsung apps, thinkfree, etc., but unable to re-install My Files.
Tried to download some Myfiles.apk (one is 600+ kb, one is a bit bigger, and one is about 1Mb). Saved on sdcard. Tapped on it to install, "Application is not installed".
Help please!!! I don't understand why samsung apps and thinkfree can be re-installed, with Titanium no less, but My Files cannot, even with the .apk file.
Thank you!!!
By the way, if it means anything to you guys, I tried to uninstall / reinstall Boat Browser Mini (which is installed in sdcard) with Titanium, and uninstall / reinstall Screen Filter (which is installed in data/app?), with Titanium, both turned out ok.
Thanks!

titanium backup problem "application not installed"

I have installed titanium backup on my old rom "HTC EXplorer Jaggyrom 3.2.1" and have back up off all my user apps
then i installed Jaggyrom 4.0.3 and tried to restore apps that i need
it works
except some apps it takes very long time on restoring and it never restore it like facebook and montano reader premium
and i can`t stop it unless i reboot my device
when normally tries to install these apps after that from apk it says "application not installed"
i tried to search if titanium resotred some files that hinder installation but i can`t find something
Any help?
or should i reflash the rom and install from scratch apk
uninstall Tiba,again install it.
if it's in the system app
Uninstall it
Again install it by moving that apk using root explorer in the same path with proper permissions
If still it doesn't work
Try re flashing...
And then install Tiba
Hope it helps
Sent from my MT11i using xda premium
the problem started when i tried to restore app+data
so i think when app is reinstalled there are some files that prevent installation
i will reflash it

Help with system app uninstall

I'm on NeoRom v3 where Titanium backup is pushed as a system app, wanted to uninstall it, tried through several applications since several methods i tried didn't work and i think i partially deleted the app, but it's still coming back lol
It is still in apps list in the default settings menu but it's not among the other apps in apps drawer. When i try to install my version of titanium bckup, it doesn't except it.
What to do? Is there any tutorial for uninstalling system apps?

Click to collapse
System apps could be uninstalled simply by deleting apk file and .odex file(if exists) from /system/app/.
Try deleting those files and reboot phone if you didnt already tried.
Not to mention, take backup since you are playing with system apps..
Now it's seems uninstalled but I can't install titanim bakcup again, it goes FC before even opening, like i deleted something in system that i shoudn't. blerg, nevermind, tnx for help
