Easter Egg? Where did this wallpaper come from? - Captivate General

So I was messing around with settings.db - hoping i could enable PIN Lock from Exchange - yes I want a PIN and no none of the 3rd party tools work correctly.
Anyway - I caused the phone to come up and ask for a password, I put in the wrong thing 3 times and it erased my data - all my 3rd party apps gone, but stuff installed via update.zip (Frameworkres, Root, and Voodoo stayed - although Voodoo scared me when it started talking and re-applying itself).
Anyway, all is back and running, but i have a default wall paper that is not in the gallery of built in wallpapers. Does any know where this came from? I have not themeing apps installed prior to the wipe..... Running JH7 that was installed from Stock JH6.

Don't know, but I want it!!!

I believe it came with Cognition.

PIN policy comes from Exchange server. If your exchange server doesn't require it, there is no way to enable it because it is not part of Android system. Even if you do get a PIN, there is no way to change it anywhere later on. It's a bad implementation in Samsung's exchange email client. Actually, the leaked document from Verizon list this as a critical bug. Imagine your Windows desktop ask you to setup a password but won't ever let you change it.
Stock firmware is JF6, not JH6.

That wallpaper is the stock Cognition wallpaper.
You can find it here
http://www.zedge.net/wallpapers/6080248/rain-designs-hd-wallpaper/?pos=5&search=rain

I never installed cognition but i did install the battery mod framework-res that is packaged in it. The wallpaper must be in there; but the wallpaper chooser doesn't see it.
As for pin lock, i have it on moto android phones so i was hopimg a simple props change would expose it. I guess i have to wait on froyo. Why it is not stock 2.1 i will never know.

SOLVED (kinda): Is Google Blacklisting GMail accounts used on rooted phones?

So here's the situation. I've got a Sprint Hero. I rooted it and installed MoDaCo, and everything was fine. Then I got this spedr.com/1iw9z beta 2.1 ROM just to try out (This ROM doesn't have copy protect apps working).
The problem arose when I went back to my Nandroid backup of MoDaCo (and my backup of the Stock ROM for that matter.) When I did that I couldn't access any protected apps on either stock or MoDaCo.
I thought that maybe this was from the 2.1 ROM but when I wiped and signed in with another GMail account I could view protected apps.
So all that is to say. Has anybody else experienced this problem and if so have you found a way to fix it? I'm thinking about contacting Google, but if they did blacklist my account there may not be much of a point, besides making sure I never get my account unblocked.

I am not aware of Google blacklisting people, so it's likely a bug. Calling them up might not resolve any problems since they're not bound to helping you if you've broken the warranty on your phone by rooting it, but it can't hurt.
Must be a bug, as mer6 suggested...
I've been running 2.1 ROMs (xROM & CaNNoN202 Complete) on my G1 for a couple weeks and my GMail account has not been locked out.
you have to do a complete wipe and reinstall a rom with all protected apps working...
sometimes its just a screw up
worst comes to worst if u cant get ur apps back...
u can change build.prop files if u knwo how to do all that
or just reset it to stock and sign into the market and then root it again
Yeah, I was inclined to think it was a bug because I haven't been able to find many othere people with the same problem. The thing is I've reflashed MoDaCo 2.2 Fresh 1.1 and I even went back to the latest RUU and tryed to get protected apps before I rooted again and there was still nothing. It doesn't seem like you would be able to get a bug in your Gmail account that would do something like this but I'm not very experianced with all this.
Signing in with another account after a wipe will fix the problem but I've got a few paid apps on this account I'd like to keep.
Changing the build.prop sounds like it might work, can you point me to any places that give any info on that? I've looked around some but so far I haven't seen much.
I doubt if google even cares. After all, they never manufactured any hardware nor do they care on where you use your gmail.
You may use your gmail account while riding a pink pony over the rainbow, for all that they care.
Haha, good point ady.
I think you are right because I just booted up my G1, something I should have already done, with King's 2.1 aosp on it, signed into my account and I can see protected apps.
So now I think I am down to a bug... now to see if I can fix it
If anybody has info on the build.prop file editing that would be helpful, going to look for it some more right now.
Just a quick update for anyone who is interested.
I changed the build.prop file but that didn't work, but just today I thought I would try another 2.1 ROM just for kicks. Sure enough, I flashed damagecontrol and all of my protected apps are back. Strange issue but I don't mind sticking with 2.1 I may go back to a 1.5 ROM just to see if damage control fixed something, or if it is uniqe to 1.5, but for now: Problem solved
This has nothing to do with Google blacklisting Gmail accounts. What's happened is your Market DB has gone out of sync from swapping your account between phones with different apps installed. The DB glitches if your phone and/or account says an app is installed but the apk isn't in /data/app.
It's a known bug on Google Support forums. To avoid I make sure I only have my Google account signed in on one phone at once and do not swap back. Always perform a wipe when changing ROMs. Keeping backups of your APKs with AppManager and using Recovery to both "wipe dalvik-cache" and "fix apk uid mismatch" could be used to solve this, maybe not.
We've all been running rooted phones for ages, Google doesn't care about it.

EvilHero 2.1.001

Standard disclaimer applies - figured I would put this just in case.
Okay, well first off I am going to start by explaining the thread title. EvilHero is basically what I call my device (evilvoice + hero) and this is a 2.1 Rom, I attached a .001 to let everyone know what stage it is in, which is the first stage. It works in what I set out for it to do. This is not for everyone, and may be only for me, but I am posting it here to get a little help and also to let other people decide for themselves if they want to use it.
This started because of Firerats MTD mod and CM6 and the inability to update my prl or do any ## codes. In using the MTD mod, CM6 RC1 only required around 105MB on system, but most 2.1 roms required a lot more space. While it is not hard to redo the whole MTD mod, it is very time consuming and you run the risk of messing up your phone until you get home, or at the very least, flash the rom you had on it before until you got home to a computer. I did a lot of searching for the smallest 2.1 rom around. This happened to be PureHero 2.1 by Konikub. I did not use any special tool to figure out size, just looked at how large the zip file was and went with the one that was the smallest, there might be smaller Sense 2.1 Roms out there, but thats what I used to select PureHero as my start.
Okay, so on to what I have done. Using PureHero 2.1 as the base, I ripped out everything except the ability to make phone calls, visual voicemail, SU, busybox, contacts, and the ability to use ## codes (including applying a MANUAL PRL update - for some reason, lost the Device Self Service tool in removing too much stuff, but no biggie since I can do a manual prl update). With this, I reduced the /system size to a mere 92.4MB...its even smaller than CM6 (a little misleading here, but I just meant that for the standard install that I was using of CM6, this rom was smaller, not that cm6 cant get smaller than this one). This is with GSD.apk on my system (but since removed in what I will be posting). It is quite stable after a first setup (meaning set your phone settings how you want them, you will probably get FCs and stuff, when done, reboot and you should not get the again except for the ones I am outlining below)
A couple of things to note:
Settings > Accounts & Sync FCs
Settings > Personalize > Default ringtone is the only thing under here that doesnt FC
Settings > Connect to PC even though it is here, it actually does nothing, even though I have the PCSCII.apk file (or whatever its called), it relies on more than just that file. Doesnt matter, I can still mount the sdcard in adb shell.
There is no market, text messaging, browser, email, video player, music player, youtube, email...like I said PHONE, ## codes, and that is PRETTY MUCH IT!
This was created to mainly be something to switch to do a prl update and switch back to CM6. Over my course of testing this rom, I have ditched the switching back to CM6. This is a modular rom - ADD WHAT YOU WANT! To give an idea: I added Opera for browser, Handcent for SMS (no MMS - need help!), K-9 for email, APKTor for market (yea not as great), I did end up adding Youtube back, andLess for music playing, have not decided on a pic viewer yet (havent even looked), Sprint Nav. Im not done adding stuff to mine, this is just what I have so far. None of these are included in the download as this is an "add your apps" rom - these are mine, you have a choice of what yours are. The only things outside of the basic Android system that is coming included is AndroZip, ADW Launcher - cause its damn near perfect, SuperUser by chainsdd, Visual Voicemail (everything but AndroZip was already included, I just updated them).
Some issues I would like help with to resolve
1. No MMS - HUGE ISSUE...maybe its because I took out MMS.apk...actually, I will put that back in and see what happens (for .002 - probably tomorrow night)
2. No market - HUGE...I never realized the benefit to the market until I had no access to it. There is nothing anywhere close to it. AppBrain requires market, so that wasnt going to be a replacement, APKTor was all I could find. My question is this: Can the market be put back in without too many google things being added back? What apk files have to be included for Market to work, I know it requires a google account. If I dont get any help, I guess I will figure it out myself, just wondering if anyone could take a look and help me out.
3. busybox can not be updated for some reason - also, when issuing a parameter on a command, it errors, but when busybox is put before, it works
Code:
df -h does not work
busybox df -h works
4. bash can not be added (or nano, remount) from the kitchen
5. Connect to computer does not work, I kept that stupid file...if its not gonna work, Im pulling the file.
6. Collins battery tweak does not work, I tested a Zen Kernel and still nothing, I guess it does not matter as I have almost everything turned off, the battery lasts a long time. Remember, adding stuff that uses data or GPS will drain the battery the same as any other rom, but this is made to compliment you...This is why I would like to get the battery tweak to work with it, so it will have better life when things get added.
Maybe people can reply with what they have added as their apps (some will be the same as it all depends on what you can find without a Market)

Removed Rom links
I am putting both up, I would try the unsigned if you can flash it, for some reason (in my tests) the signed did not work as well as the unsigned. Also, this has MMS.apk added, it is untested, but really should work as I only removed the app. I will be doing my own test on this rom later tonight or tomorrow.
PS. I am not a developer, I just removed things, edited files in notepad++ and tested. If something does not work, please bear with me in finding out what caused it. As I said previously, a lot of stuff is removed, so expect that. The only FC's I experienced is one for putting the power control widget on the launcher (1 time), and the 2 places in settings. Thanks and let me know what you think
Nice concept, would love to see where this goes.

There is actually more stuff needed, but yea, gtalk is def needed. Its funny, someone in the G1 forum posted what it depended on, and besides one framework file, I removed everything else. I really hate the implementation of gtalk. It runs all the time and I dont use it. In the same G1 thread, the poster was talking about editing the package so it wasnt dependent on anything, I may have my programmer buddy take a look at it when he gets a chance to see if he can finish the work. If there was a way for the market to not need googleapps.apk or gtalk/service.apk I would be ecstatic, as it stands now, I dont see me putting the market back.
Also, Rom links have been posted
And actually, just for the sake of argument, I modified cm 6 and gapps to minimize the size on my phone, and I have it at 89 mb but sol full functionality. I even will have maps and nav and voice search and all, but on data partition only. In could shrink a lot more actually, but don't feel the need.
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
cm6 has the ability to get real tiny...if I were to remove the same things, Id say itd be around 50-60mb (maybe im just dreaming here), the issue with cm6 is that fact it does not allow prl updating. I included the newest prl in the zip which gets dumped to your sdcard...j-i-c. Android 2.2 is smaller than 2.1 - there is no way a 2.1 rom will be smaller than 2.2 with the same functionality, it just wont happen, I know that, I just wanted a small 2.1 that did prl ...maybe sprint will release a 2.2 we can use...then I will look into slimming it down like I did this one.
This was never meant to go head to head with cm6...we are talking about 2 different systems - I guess I should have pointed that out...2.2 has the potential to be WAAAY smaller than even this one.
This is a great idea and Im going to watch your progress, Im hoping someday they figure out how to get prl updated on 2.2 Such a pain right now updating it. Thanks for your work!

[Q] G-tablet Passcode lock

Anyone knows how to enable/put a Passcode Lock on the G-tablet? or any other way to protect our data?
Thanks for helping
Using the vegan rom there is he ability to use it tthough some other things dont work great
Can you give me more details please?
Given the not super stable state of roms, the last thing I would want to do is add some form of passcode or pattern lock to the device. Just saying.
I was looking for an app similar to the droidx unlock my phone has, Ive been browsing the system/app folder looking for what the apk might be to titanium backup over to my gtablet. Id like some kind of security on my tablet too lol
The stock ROM and TNT Lite (based on stock ROM) do not have the ability to lock the screen on an OS level. Some of the components are there (the ability to set a password, for example), but it's missing the pieces to actually lock the screen (manually or with 3rd party apps). In addition, the OS itself has no built in protection, so even setting a passcode won't prevent someone from plugging in a USB cable and accessing the file system.
Until someone releases a TrueCrypt type application, this thing pretty much has zero security...

Working Simple Exchange Security Policy Workaround

There is a simple workaround on rooted phones for the Exchange security policy without having to replace the original mail app. I also posted this in the Android 2.2 Email.apk - Bypassing Exchange security policy - APK Attached thread in the Evo forum and am making a new thread here in case people have missed this very simple workaround. I am using it on an account on a Exchange 2007 server and I believe Exchange 2003 works as well. I heard from one person who did not have good results with Exchange 2010. All exchange functions work fine without any issues. I am using the stock email app so this only applies to the stock email app that forces a password security policy.
I am using an app called Autostarts found in the market (less than a dollar - I am not the developer) that allows disabling the exchange policy on restart. The setting can be found under Device Admin Enabled. Make sure you are in USB Debugging Mode before disabling the policy.
If you already have an Exchange account set up yet:
Install Autostarts from the Android Market and run. Find and click the Device Admin Enabled entry and press Mail (Exchange security policies) and select Disable (acknowledge the warning about disabling a system component). Close Autostarts and reboot the phone. After restart, change your screen lock under security to whatever you want (None, Pattern, or PIN).
If you don't have an Exchange account set up yet:
Install Autostarts from the Android Market then set up your Exchange account and let Exchange force the password policy. After the exchange setup is completed, run Autostarts and find and click the Device Admin Enabled entry and press Mail (Exchange security policies) and select Disable (acknowledge the warning about disabling a system component). Close Autostarts and reboot the phone. After restart, change your screen lock under security to whatever you want (None, Pattern, or PIN).
Is there any freeware tools?
Hi,
Thanks for posting. Is there any freeware tools available for this purpose??
Thanks
I just installed the program and then realized you need to have your phone rooted. How would I do that and what are the effects of rooting the phone? This is the easiest option I have seen so far depending on what has to be done to the phone to make it work.
It would also be nice to shut down all those horrible programs that keep restarting that I never use.
Thanks
Works on 3.70 kernel Fresh ROM 3.5.0.1
I am running fresh 3.5.0.1 on my HTC Evo and this method worked for removing the Exchange security pin requirement. My company uses Exchange 2007.
UPDATE:
My phone started prompting me that my server requires the security profile. It won't refresh the email account unless I turn it back on.
thanks for the awesome work!!

I also started getting the warning after upgrading to roms based on 3.70. The workaround still works for those on the earlier roms. I'll see if there is any other graceful way around it.

I don't know if it's part of the HTC sense or android framework.

This isn't a good solution...although you can disable the remote admin, the corporate exchange account alerts you that "security policy needs to be updated"...thus you can't check emails...
So after posting I got off the stock ATT rom and installed the Cognition 2.3 rom. Everything was great after that and worked like a champ. I just tried upgrading to Cognition 3.0 and the fix here broke again. I'd rather stay archaic and not have that dang password than run the latest and greatest and have to deal with it. When you guys are saying your running 3.5 and 3.7 what are you referring to?
Thanks,
Landon.
I knew I should have waited before posting...
I reinstalled Cognition 3.0 on my Captivate and tried the email.apk here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=729753
Worked great again and didn't need autostarts. Woohoo!
Landon.
Loophole closed?
It would *appear* that Google closed this loophole, perhaps in Gingerbread? I just tried the latest MIUI and WarmZ ROMs (both of which are GB based, AFAIK). While this still enables the option to change from PIN to pattern or none under security, as soon as the next sync I am re-prompted about the policy, and if I accept it re-enables the setting in autostarts. I switched back to IncROM which is 2.2 and this procedure still works. If this loophole was indeed closed I am so bummed. I'd rather forgo using Exchange entirely than put up with a freaking 8-digit PIN every 15 minutes. And I can't seem to find a Mail.apk for Sense that has been modded to bypass this stringent policy. Blackberry users on the same Exchange server don't have to unlock their phone all day long, so why does Android's default behavior require this?
(I'm on an HTC Incredible)
+1. Agree with Stretch2m.
Really annoying have to enter pin code every 5 minutes or so. Especially when I'm in a hurry to access e-mail or other stuff...
Anyone out there who can assist with GB 2.3.3
Please help!
I am on an Epic with Syndicate frozen 1.1.0.... i enabled corporate exchange sync and it made me install the pin lock - which i want to disable...
Please can you post - NOOB version of the directions and also if anyone knows if this works on Epic with this custom ROM.
THANKS!

[MOD][GUIDE]How To Enable The Hidden Alternate SystemUI In Note5

Not sure how many of you are aware, but there is a completely different user interface built into the Note5 that's hidden. I thought maybe some of you might like to check it out just for fun. It allows you to place widgets and apps on the lockscreen and has a bunch of cool lockscreen effects. Also, the "notifications panel" and the "recents" page are totally different, as well as many other interesting features. I added some screenshots for you guys to check out in this post.
Here are the steps to activating it:
1) First, anytime you're playing around with the SystemUI, even if it's a built in feature, it's a good idea to do a full system backup in TWRP. Not necessary, but recommended.
2) Next, you will need to have the Galaxy Apps store installed on your device. If you happened to have deleted it like I did, then I've attached the APK to this post for anyone that needs to reinstall it.
3) Open the Galaxy Apps store and update it if/when it prompts you.
4) Once the store has loaded, search for the words "Good Lock". Click on the app and click "Update", then "Install" and reboot the device when it prompts you.
(This is the hidden SystemUI that you already have on your device, but it needs the current update to work.)
5) Once rebooted into the new SystemUI, it will begin walking you through all of your new customization options. You can change any of these anytime you want by opening the "Good Lock" app in your applications list.
NOTE: If you decide that you want to deactivate the alternate SystemUI at any point, then you can just open up the "Good Lock" app and click on "Uninstall" too. You can also uninstall the Galaxy Apps store at any time and features like the new "Recents" page, if you don't like it, can be toggled off in the app as well.
Anyhow, I hope you guys have some fun with this. I'm trying it out for awhile just for kicks. Be sure to let everyone know what you thought of the new SystemUI in the comments too!
Just installed this running N5 Express ROM with no issues yet. Really like being able to have Tasker widget shortcuts on the lockscreen.

That's a really good idea. Been trying to think of a more useful widget to use on the lock screen. So far I've only added a fancy clock/weather widget. [emoji14] Maybe I'll give it a try.
Cool cant wait to try it out!

TWRP is mentioned for backing up your current configuration of TouchWiz(and your device in general) if you can before using Good Lock in case anything goes wrong. Obviously backing up your device is never required, but definitely always recommended when altering the system in any way, regardless of where it comes from. It's important to understand that Good Lock isn't just some Samsung app in the app store or just another launcher that changes the home screen, apps page, etc. It tweaks the system ui itself, including the look and function of the notifications panel, lock screen capabilities and more. It's true that you can just revert back to TW whenever you want pretty easily from within Good Lock, but the process isn't perfect. In fact, I myself applied it and reverted back only 2 times and the second time something went terribly wrong during the reversion and the system halted and it would no longer boot after that, so I had to restore a previous backup which I was glad to have had. All the data that I hadn't recently backed up though was of course lost, so yes...a TWRP backup is recommended when using Good Lock.
Also worth mentioning is the fact that if you're not running a compatible version of the stock firmware or at least a compatible TouchWiz rom, it will try to prevent you from installing it by not showing it in an app store search or by blocking access to the app's page(if you're following a link) in the Galaxy Apps store. For instance, it was there when I was on stock Marshmallow, but does not allow me to access it on stock Nougat. Instead I get error messages saying the app is not supported on my device when trying to load the Good Lock page.
Here is the link btw in case anyone can't find Good Lock in a search and wants to check if it can be used on their device. If it shows it, then it's compatible, if it doesn't then it's likely not. Just open the link in a mobile browser and click "OK" if prompted.

WTF dude? Seriously. Stop being an ass and actually read what I wrote. It's the least you can do after I typed all that out. You're not helping anyone by TROLLING this thread and repeatedly mentioning something so extremely redundant. If you don't want to backup then don't backup. I clearly said that it was obviously not required to do a backup and that I was only recommending to do it because I lost data and couldn't boot after selecting the option to revert back one time. Stop wasting people's time with your pointless comments. NOWHERE does it say in my post that making a backup is Required, so get over yourself. Either stop being a destructive ass or go and troll someone else! Your negative comments are not welcome here.
