Hope somebody can help. I got rid of at&t service and they gave me an unlock code if I wanted to get service from t-mobile. I am going to use the phone just for mp3, gps, etc..., but I won't use any phone or data features. I'm not sure if I should unlock it and I don't know how. I'm also wondering if anyone has developed a rom that eliminates all of the phone features? Any help would be much appreciated.
Looks like my post is one that got messed up while the server went down. Somebody had already responded and said they doubted there was a rom that would have the phone and data options stripped out of it. So the only question I have now is how do I unlock my phone with the code at&t gave me? I've searched the wiki and it just points to sites that are trying to sell unlock codes. I have the code I just don't know how to use it.
To apply the unlock code, you first need to insert another carrier Sim card into your device. ex: T-Mobile
1) Shut off you device
2) Remove your battery cover
3) Remove your battery
4) Slide in a non at&t Sim card
5) Pop in your battery
6) Re-apply the battery cover
7) Power on your device
8) Once your device boots up, you'll be prompted with a "Your device is Sim Locked" type of message
9) From there, you should have an option to Unlock your device with your code
10) Taa-daa!
** You can use a friends Sim card to unlock, as long as it's not at&t. Once unlocked, just give them back their Sim card.
Thanks for the info. It's very much appreciated.

not sure if this belongs in this board, but Ive been calling ATT for a while now to get an unlock code for my overseas trip.
I got mine, but...
I just don't know how exactly I'm supposed to enter it, Ive been getting mixed messages from each rep involving the steps, but the code seems to be the same.
Can someone tell me how to enter it?
---things they've told me:
- you need a diff carrier's sim card
- you dont need a diff carriers sim card
- you need to enter stuff like (#7563*638*.........)
- you dont need to enter stuff like (#7563*638*.........)
Well I just called ATT and was given my unlock code... The directions given weren't the best but managed to get it unlocked to hopefully I can help.
The woman on the phone gave me a long winded code #746...*638*742.....# Which obviously didn't work since there is no option to type in # or * when getting to the unlock screen. So I just started typing in the different numbers she gave me. I typed in the second series of 742... numbers which was 8 digits in total and hit enter and my phone was unlocked. I should also mention I did have an Australia sim card in when doing this so I'm not sure whether or not another sim is needed in the process.
Hope this helps and you can get it to work...
what is the 742 number sequence they gave you? id like to try it with my unlock code.
I actually left the code I was give at work so can't give it to you ATM... From what I've read all each individual phone has its own unique code so its doubtful mine would work anyway.
Basically what I did is entered the last 8 numbers that ATT gave me with my Aussie sim in the phone. If you're still not able to get it to work tomorrow I'll find my code at work and you can see if it'd randomly work for you.
I still haven't been able to unlock mine.
Could you please give me a step-by-step guide for unlocking my phone the way that you did?
I just need the steps and the 742 number, i already have my code.
Thank you.

How to enter the unlock code for Samsung Focus (aka NCK)?
To enter unlock code for most Samsung:
Method 1:
1. Insert a foreign sim card
2. Enter the PIN if the card has it
3. now enter code NCK
=> the phone should be unlocked
If your phone does not ask for an unlock code:
Method 2:
1. Switch ON your phone with a non accepted SIM Card
2. Compose:
#7465625*638*CODE#
OR
*#7465625*638*CODE#
OR
#0111*CODE#
WARNING: entering wrong code 3 times or more will FREEZE the phone and you will need an UNFREEZE code (another one).
Hope one of above works for you.
Samsung Focus Unlock worked..
Thanks to Zehns10, the instructions worked perfect. Not only the AT&T person spent an hour trying to help me without success, but I also spent an hour with Samsung Technical Support Level 3 guys and it was a total waste of time.
The key to unlocking your Samsung Focus phone is to have a "NON AT&T SIM CARD" with you and insert that in your phone to proceed with unlocking. Both AT&T and Samsung Tech support will tell you to take the SIM card off and try all kinds of stuff and it simply won't work.
Happy camper, I am now!

Yep, my phones unlocked now
Thanks.

I've asked AT&T (just in case) via email and they send me an unlock code with complete instructions including that step (non-AT&T sim card). Total time spent - less than 5 minutes (except waiting for reply, of course). So if you not in hurry, use email
what is the procedure?
i got the unlock code from AT&T
but no procedure.
when I power on I get SIM ERROR
so...where do I enter this lovely code?
AT&T instructions (my copy&paste):
1. Power off the device and insert a non ATT SIM card.
2. Power on the handset.
3. Network Lock will display enter the device unlock code.
4. The SOS key (Left Soft Key) on the lower left side of the device keypad will change to OK. Select OK.
5. Display should read Network Lock Deactivated.
PLEASE NOTE: You only have five (5) tries to unlock the phone. If this process is unsuccessful five times in a row, the phone will be permanently locked to the AT&T network.

Sir, I have got my unlock code. When i enter a non accepted SIM card i am getting an error "Incorrect SIM". It does not ask for unlock code. I want to try Method 2 mentioned by you but i am not quite sure what "Compose" means as mentioned in step 2. Also a few screenshots or a video tutorial demonstrating method 2 will be a great help.
Thanks in advance.

Ask your provider (T-Mobile).
question?
can I ask a really dumb question:
below Method 1 says "3. now enter code NCK" .... Where? using what? the widget that pops up asking for the Pin is a numeric keypad only.
what is it that allows the 'input' of "NCK"???
and similarly, in Method 2, what device/widget/applet allows the input of "CODE" ??
i guess others know this, but so-called "legacy" SIM's are not liked by the i917

I live in Egypt and I won a Samsung Focus S in a Windows Phone development competition (it was held by Microsoft Egypt).
The only problem is that it's locked by AT&T and I'm unable to use my Vodafone Egypt SIM.
I contacted Microsoft here but they keep telling me that they'll get me the code and they don't, so I decided to do this myself.
Can you tell me how to contact AT&T to get the unlock code? I don't think I can call them because that would cost me A LOT (international calls here are very expensive), and tell me what I need to say to them in order for them to give me the code
Contact AT&T via email (see my posts above) or just pay $20 to these guys: http://www.samsungimeiunlock.com/samsung-focus-s-unlock (I hope, $20 is not A LOT for you? )
Ok so I just discovered that I can call AT&T's customer service from Skype for free
So I called them and I told them about my case and gave them my IMEI number, but they couldn't find my unlock code
I asked them what could be the reason for that, they told me that with new phones like mine, the manufacturer doesn't release the unlock codes to the carriers until some time has passed, that time can be a month or a year or forever!
Can someone tell me why would Samsung do this? and does that mean I'll have to use samsungimeiunlock.com to SIM Unlock my phone?
20$ isn't that much (it's approximately 120 Egyptian pounds), but I would've preferred if I was able to get it for free

XDA Q&A isn't the best place to ask rhetorical questions. Forward your question to Samsung. Also, as for samsungimeiunlock.com better to ask samsungimeiunlock.com guys directly (I'm not working on samsungimeiunlock.com).
Hi there!
I just bought a SE Xperia x8. It was Locked to 3 uk.
I used a unlock online service to unlock it. Did everything right as it was in the unlocking manual. But in the end of the process the software Multi unlocking client frozed. The know the mobile doessn't recognize any sim card.
In the hiden menu the X on the network lock is not there anymore as it was unlocked.
And when I try to connect to a network the message I get is "Your sim card does not allow a connection to this network"
I rooted it changed roms and the problem persists
Can anyone help me?
The Online unlocking service wants me to by more credits and try again....
Have the same problem... any fix for this?
I just opened my own thread for exactly the same thing last night - did either of you have any luck getting this fixed?
Oh God, I remember MultiUnlocker from my Palm Pre days. What a horrid piece of software it is.
I'd recommend contacting their support division and outlining your problem. I was able to gain the necessary three credits to unlock my phone (stupid bloody thing took that many goes).
It may prove problematic that your phone is kinda 'in limbo' ie. showing unlocked but not. You should be able to input a code from the emergency dialler giving you access to the engineering menu, which will allow you to re-lock your phone, then the code should work.
I'll subscribe to the thread in case you need further advice!
I have the Z3 from Tmo usa. I also have the unlock code i paid for. when I insert foreign sim, it does not prompt for unlock code, instead directing me to use the unlocking app on the phone provided by tmobile. How can I get this thing to ask for the code.
So far i have figured out it is missing the Simlockunlockapp.apk from priv-apps
this is the app that asks for the code.
Have u found any way to unlock the xperia z3 with the unlock code?
Boom. Finally worked this morning for me.
I'm getting it force crashing on me. Is there another app it requires? I might have accidentally blocked/disabled?

Was your phone active for more than 45 days on T-Mobile?
How did you unlock it, please provide more info.
What info was it asking for, to get the device unlocked?
Was your device with BAD or Clear IMEI?
Thanks in advance!
1. Yes
2. Used the unlock app. Interestingly, after the permanent unlock, the app deletes itself (at least the icon)
3. None, it verifies your eligibility with T-Mobile servers
4. Clear IMEI, valid account, paid full price for the phone
Is there anyone who tried flashing a rom via Recovery to get the unlock code menu to pop up and insert the code?
i am stuck with the network lock. unable to unlock. anyone pls shed some light on this.. its dark for very long time..
Hi, a family member passed away a few months ago and I was given her phone by her sister to use if I wanted. She had the phone and charger, and thats it. I stay in the UK and the phone I use is on O2. The phone she had was the Experian L but she had her phone through a contract with virgin media.
When I initally put my sim card in and turned the phone on it said 'virgin media, this phone has been reported lost/stolen'. In order to unclock it from this security lock I needed her insurance company(through virgin) to provide me with a 4 digit pin to unlock the phone. This was very hard to get as the insurance people are different from virgin media, but after a while they agreed to give me the code if I sent a copy of her death certificate in. I did this and got the code thankfully. I was told that I wouldnt be able to use my o2 simc ard in the phone because the handset was locked on Virgin. I was told if I paid £15 I would receive the unlocking code through the post in a week or so.
I did this and got a letter through the door with the instruction on for to unlock the handset. Basically its a 16digit number that I enter and the phone become unlocked. However, after all this Ive just realised I think there is a phone lock on the phone i.e. a pin she must have set herself? I think this because when I power the phone up without a sim, all I can see is the date/time, with her name underneath, and also underneath that is a keypad. When you press any button on the keypad and hit enter it says wrong pin? That happens without a sim card so I presume it is a phone pin lock she had on her phone is that correct? If so, is there any way around this? Ideally I would like to keep whatever pictures etc are on the phone however I realise that might not be possible. Ive tried to download the sony suite however it wont allow me to use the suite because it tells me on the computer I must enter the pin on the phone to continue! bit of a nightmare to be honest.
Any help/suggestions with what I can do? Many thanks
I cant unlock through Pc Companion because Pc Companion needs the screen to be unlocked before it connects the device, and I cant do that.
factory reset
Hello, do a factory reset to the Phone, but you will loose all the information on it
Hi. I received my Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra 5G smartphone, which I ordered from Samsung.com (I chose the T-Mobile version when ordering). After turning on the phone for the first time, at the Welcome screen, when I click the Start button, I get the message, "Insert SIM card from your service provider for network service."
I can't find a way to bypass this message. I was initially thinking if I could connect to my WiFi, it'd go away, but there's absolutely no way to connect to WiFi or access any settings.
I upgrade my smartphones every 15 months and have had T-Mobile for nearly a decade, and this is the first time I've seen such a thing during setup. I like to keep my SIM card in my current smartphone until the new one is fully set up, at which point I would transfer the SIM card over. I have a lot of services I use that rely on SIM card (i.e., not fully cloud-based and are tied to the SIM card), and not having that service during setup may be an issue. Also, I have received brand new phones that have had issues in the past (e.g., poor battery life, screen problems), so I'd rather fully test the new phone before transferring my SIM over.
The workaround I thought of: Put in a temporary T-Mobile SIM card, just to complete the setup process. Once setup has completed, I'll put my actual SIM card into the phone, or have T-Mobile transfer my phone number to the new SIM card. Thoughts?
Thank you.
It's because you got the T-Mobile phone so it wants you to connect to the network first before using it or continuing with setup. A way to get around that is to install the u1 firmware.
IIRC you can hold the volume down button for 5 seconds at the sim required screen to bypass the requirement. There's a help article somewhere that documents this.
As far as I know, Samsung requiring a SIM card during initial setup has been around for a long time. Nothing to do with your carrier. Even my unlocked phone from Samsung required a SIM card on first boot before continuing. There are of course ways around that, but beware. I bypassed the SIM card requirement setting up my S21 Ultra and spent a day configuring it to my liking. Then I popped the SIM card in from my old phone and it caused a factory reset erasing all my hard work. Probably because my carrier wanted to install all their software and settings. Not saying the same thing will happen to you, but just something to be aware of.
Here is the link to the eSIM setup (bypass SIM requirement)

Sticking a SIM from another carrier after eSIM set up should not cause a hard reset under normal circumstances, it does cause a reboot into bootloader to deploy the new carrier specific customizations from cache, but this is supposed to be transparent to user data. It broke if it caused a hard reset ;\

Technically, this worked, but this burned me badly. I appreciate the workaround, but I highly recommend against it. See below.

This is exactly what happened to me on the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra. This is literally the most annoyed I have ever been at an electronic consumer device.
I spent over 21 hours over the span of 6 days setting up the phone. I put in the SIM card and was presented with a message stating, "SIM card detected. Restart your phone to start using your new SIM card." I could not use the phone at all, so my only option was to restart. After I hit the Restart button, the phone restarted. For less than 3 seconds, it showed a black screen with a small Android logo, with the small text "Erasing." Then the phone started up and everything is as if it's a brand new phone. Everything I've spent time working on is all gone.
Hello Team, important information, when it is asking for the carrier sim card, you need press volumen up + volumen down + power button at the same time for few seconds, then it will say a message like "Unlocked" then proceed with the first configuration.
This is for people who is going to use with a different provided, please let me know if you heard or read this info in another link (because i did not find that)
