Excellent idea! I was hoping someone would do this.
I'll load it up this morning and let you know if I see any issues!
Ahhh perfect, I was poking around to see what I would need to do to bring the multitouch browser to H (I already have the Voice Search and Dialer) and I find this. Thank's dude.
Hmmmm sounds tempting, but how does the speed compare to adp hr3?

Not 100% sure, but this loads faster on mine. I "overclock" to slow to save battery haha but I didn't notice a difference running hr3. I've been going back and forth trying to get what I need. The blue lock screen overlay is actually the MAIN reason I am doing this. Stupid, huh?
Key factor may be that I DID update the radio.
I did leave out superuser, spare parts, and anything else that can be installed normally for those who don't want them. I change my mind about apps hourly so I try to keep default installs as clean as possible to avoid troublesome adb commands.
This sounds very intersting. Does it include the Exchange integration from the 5.0H build?
This is EXACTLY what I've been waiting for... soon as you get locked down which apps ur keeping, I'm on it.
Sounds great twisted. I'm in love with 5.0.2H because of the mail app and pdfviewer. Yesterday I stepped up to ADP1.5 and although it was fast, it's missing these key components that I use daily. I look forward to you app log.
This is really interesting. I can't wait to hear(read) thee results. Lol

It currently has the 5.0.2 exchange. I saw no point in taking it out. I don't use it but I know it's far easier to remove system components like that than it is to implement them once an update is installed.
So far I see no real difference in Gmail. Mail seems to crash for me in 1.5 with something about a Plus account - looks like 5.0.2 mail stays. Maps and Market will be updated because I see no reason not to.
Any thoughts on Gmail? Anyone see any updates worth having?
Can you put the H build camera in the build instead of the 1.5.3 camera? The HTC camera was far superior than the google implementation. That's all I can think of so far

H camera crashed when using the camera button. The one I'm using is the one from the "add features to 5.0.xH" thread. Seems to be the most stable and all you really lose is zoom. Forgot to take out additional HTCAlbum, though. Planning to fix this and some other updates when I get back to my hideout. If I can remap the H camera button I will get that in there, but that takes a little longer than just swapping apks.

Please allow me time to obtain all the information I need (and the conmplimentary copy of Paragon) before I begin posting parallel versions for those of you that require a2sd. Until then I am taking the advice of a pm and adding in the black vk. It is "slick"
Please feel free to follow me on twitter at the same name. Much as I have followed the trend of making one for such an endeavor.
Please excuse the fact that I edit my posts almost immediately. I view them from my G1 and while the logic may be flawed, I find them cleaner when words do not hang loosely into additional lines.

everything seems to work. not seeing the multi-touch...suppose to be there right. not a big deal, just testing out the version.
How is this going?
Still developing the build?
Looks great, and appears to fit me perfectly!
However, what is the difference between the two builds that you link to in your first post?
Is the 5.0.2hr5-twisted.zip the normal version, while the 5.0.2hr5a-twisted.zip is the Apps2SD version?

Sorry apps2sd is still coming. Having technical difficulties with getting both my G1 and computer to recognize the same partitions. The new version has the Andreoid keyboard included along with updates to youtube, maps, and market. The slider problem still exists for a day or two. Wanted to get the new market in place because I isolated the market download issue to have been cooperation between market and launcher. Now that the new market accepts downloads I can fix launcher. Expect updates tomorrow. I have a 4-hour block of boredom. Hehe.

Still isolating libs and such. JesusFreke redid the kernel so the program alone was not enough. Didn't think that far ahead when I was throwing parts together. I'm learning as I tear apart the 7 builds on my desktop. I just have to teach myself as I go.
Open source never meant well-documented.
Plans are in the works to go backwards from the HTC build, but like most others I need something to default back to when I'm not testing. Building this version was first priority with that being my next step. That is when the speed increases will occur with some new features. Can't say I'm not a dreamer, right?

Edit 5/18/2010
FIRST PUBLIC BETA OF MY EDITS TO THIS ROM ARE OUT! CHECK THEM OUT HERE:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=6518000
Mods! Please close this thread! PLEASE do not post in this thread about my Beta! I don't need to be tracking 2 threads!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Browsing Google for new roms to check out, review and breakdown for my own learning pleasure, I stumbled across this hero rom of Android 2.1 with SenseUI.
http://www.4shared.com/file/163848444/8c7602ca/Hero_21.html
Tried to google search the archive name as well as the full 4shared link but couldn't find any articles about it anywhere. (If you know where its from let me know!)
Flashed it on my 32B Magic (MyTouch). This rom is INCREDIBLE. Booted up from flash to setup in less than 3 minutes, everything in setup ran smoothly and quickly (with one exception, I'll note below).
This is SO FAST, right off the bat, no SetCPU, no nothing, AND THE PHONE COMES UP INSTANTLY WHEN RECEIVING A CALL! No force closes so far, no non responding apps, NOTHING.
I've found 2 problems with the rom - Gmail setup can't seem to find a data connection (but the browser and IM clients do - weird? is this a CDMA rom? How do I check?) and the homescreen reboots anytime you hit the "Home" button - but it only takes a second or two to finish. I'm going to fly spare parts onto it and see if I can keep home in memory.
If anyone knows who's rom this is, let me know! Also, if it IS a CDMA rom, can someone port it to GSM? About Phone says this is the HTC Hero, but the Kernel says it is "Unavailable".
TRY THIS ROM, ITS AWESOME! If I can get gmail to work and the home app to stay in memory this will be my daily rom until CR brings his Slide rom out of beta and it runs this fast.
EDIT: Doing some testing, results of set 1
Comes with SU installed and working.
Text messages - working
Sense Widgets - working
Phone calls (in and outbound) - working and SUPER fast, there's NO lag!
NO CAMERA!
wifi - broken? says its unable to start
bluetooth - same as wifi
Gmail - broken? Can't get a data connection to gmail
Market - not working, because I can't get into gmail :-(
Browser - working, browsing the web as we speak
Keyboard - working (HTC_IME with no lag or weird ram-hack like problems.)
SetCPU (installed through adb) - installed and now this thing is just... I mean, there's no words for it. its fast. its really fast.
-----------------------------------------------
I'm working on building off of this rom - but I'm not copying and pasting in a ktichen, I'm actually working to rewrite code, replacing drivers, updating with a new kernel and above all else, making the apps work together. Right now I'm working to fix sync and make the prgram list actually display all the installed apps. This is tedious work, but Ill update you guys on my progress as it happens. I think this is a great rom to build off of because from the start, its super fast and as long as I keep speed in mind as I work on the rom, I think the end result will be a good one. If you have any suggestions I'd love to hear them, both for fixes and modifications to this rom. I'm new to android development so I'm doing a hell of a lot of reading right now but I'm a 8 year programmer and do it for 9 hours a day, 5 days a week, so it's not like programming is new to me - just the android side of it. I'd like to thank Cyanogen fo his wealth of tutorials, repositories, and tips because most of the stuff I'm reading and learning was written by him.
Bugfix log for NEXT release (NOT THE CURRENT ONE!)
Facebook App and sync - fixed
Camera/Video
Wifi
Widgets (they don't all appear in the add widget list)
Google sync - Partially fixed... still working on it
App list not showing all installed apps - Working on it, still don't have any idea why its happening but I will find out if it kills me

[5/9/10] On the google sync issue - I originally thought it was a Hero caching problem, having found a ton of information of this happening on stock hero devices, but it turns out it wasn't. In the process of discovering this, I've also found out why the installed apps don't show in the Rosie app list. Its a bug with how this rom was built in SDK version 6, when the original Hero rom from HTC was build in 7, it was backported (not sure if I have the correct terminology there), breaking a few things. I'm going to recompile in 7, fix the system date format (which is also causing an error in the Google sync) and hopefully get sync working, then I can start looking at other minor bugs and optimization.
-----------------------------------------------
PS - somebody find out where this rom came from so I can give proper credit to the original developer(s)!!!
Edit: I'm told this is Drizzy's original Hero 2.1 (Thanks Chris!) with broken drivers. I'm going to try to contact Eugene to see what modifications he made and also check through online documentation to figure driver **** out. Props to Drizzy/Eugene - this build may be more or less broken (well, it was your first and you had plenty of updates to it since then) but damn, nice job on such a fast rom, its awesome even for alpha.
im a little scared to try it...so i wont zackattacks 2.1 1.1 hero is fast enough and stable enough for me right now.
Could you give us more information from where did you obtain it?

Could be - but I don't think so, this thing is old, uploaded last year, I can't get ZX's 2.1 hero to work and I haven't seen a ZX Team update on their 2.1 Sense threads on here or on androidspin, plus this one has a ton of extra features, like the animated browser progress bar from the original espresso rom.
seems interesting. can anyone confirm if this is 2.1 as OP suggusted or 1.5 as mediaman suggusted?

[5/18/10][G1 & MT3G]HappyRom 0.5 BETA - The fastest 2.1 Sense Rom ever! Native LED!
http://www.twitter.com/DefectiveLove - I share this twitter with my wife - follow me!
What?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------I've never understood why Sense roms always had to be SOOOO slow on my MT3G and have only gotten less reliable with Overclocking and JIT compiling; I was also really tired of the randomly *****y screen and keyboard - you know, where you're typing and it pauses for 10 seconds, then puts in a symbol instead of your letter? Or how about ****TY battery life and lag on incoming calls so bad I miss most of them and get nothing but voicemails. I want the features, but I've been using Donut roms instead because Sense has sucked. Till now.
Several weeks ago I found an old 2.1 Sense rom by Drizzy that f***in' flew like nobody's business, but everything was broken in it (see the original thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=677518 ). I've been working since then to fix everything that was broken, add new features and all the while, keep the speed of the original rom as my number one priority.
Well, I've been working on this non stop (as you can see from my myriad of posts in chef central) while learning android from the ground up. After nearly a month (I think) here's my first beta!
HappyRom v0.05 BETA by Aeltrius - This rom, all by itself, is faster than any JIT, OC'd Sense rom out there. Even on the G1 without touching setCPU - this is CONFIRMED!
- this rom is heavily based on work done by Drizzy and Eugene373.
Special thanks to Chiefz_Reloaded and Asuske/ts0cha0tik for lending a helping hand when I got pissed, being there to bounce ideas off of and testing out my private betas!
Additional thanks to Cyanogen for his detailed wiki's and King for all his work I've studied, as well as the developers of SetCPU, Spare Parts and the other apps I've included.
-------------------------
Requirements
G1
- Death SPL - MAY work on other SPL's - I haven't tested this on G1. It will probably work on Danger, too, but I won't guarantee that as I haven't had a chance to prove it
G1 & MT3G
- ext partition (you can use ext2/ext3/ext4 - your choice, ext2 has been the least tested, but it HAS worked)
- 96Mb Swap (128Mb Recommended!!!)
-------------------------
What works:
Wifi
Google Apps/G-Sync/Gmail/Google Talk/etc
Sense Widgets (except clock - check the bugs section)
Market
SMS/MMS
Email/Exchange
Music
Browser
SU
USB-Mounting
Youtube
Native LED support!!! - Still in very early stages but confirmed working on MT3G

Ummm.... well, I just about everything else should work, but this is a beta BECAUSE I need some additional testing done.
Installation Instructions for Newbies!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------Don't get mad at me if you don't follow these!
1.) Make sure your SD card is properly formatted. My personal recommendation:
128Mb Swap
512 Mb ext(2|3|4)
2.) FULL WIPE!
3.) Flash the Zip and restart your phone
4.) Watch for the lockscreen. Once it appears, wait 2-3 minutes for the rom to settle. Skip through setup till you get to the Home screen "Loading..."
- During and after setup, you may get a message "calendar storage is not responding" a few times - just hit "wait". This goes away once you set up your Gmail Account.
5.) Wait for the Home Screen to load up, then give it a minute or 2. Open programs and hit your Market. Log into your Gmail here.
6.) Wait till your email is downloaded - phone will be slow for about 30-45 seconds until Gmail is synced up. Done
Once you give this thing a couple minutes to settle, its SUPER ****in fast.
-------------------------
EXTRA INSTRUCTIONS
NOW - this thing should be fast enough all by itself with no additional mods (hard to believe, but I'm serious) or tweaks but it has so far only been tested on the MT3G, so G1 users or needy MT3G users, I've included SetCPU in here so you can max out your CPU if you want it to be even faster. I've also added spare parts if you want to speed up window animations and such.
The first time you bring up the dialer it might be really slow, but after that it won't be.
Download
---------------------------------------------------------------------------I am NOT responsible if you mess up or your phone by using my rom!
This is still in BETA!!!!

I can't track that, there' no way for me to know what the problem is! Tell me which app had a problem, what you were doing when it did, and if you're feeling generous, throw me a logcat while you're at it .
Finally, if you want me to be able to properly track and fix bugs - please,
keep this thread on topic
Native LED???
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
For everyone who's wondering, as of page 2 of this thread, Native LED support has been *mostly* removed from my rom. A lot of people put a lot of time and effort into developing these custom roms for the community and they need to get credit for the work they've done. When a "signer" or Developer alike KNOWINGLY uses anyone else's code and purposefully claims it is their own without giving proper credit, I personally believe they don't deserve the end result of all that hard work.
I came into android only a few simple months ago, and only started digging into the code within the past month. I've read a lot, spent hours a day in front of my computer coding, flashing updates, testing and losing sleep to help develop a rom that people can use - a choice in a myriad of roms available. I have learned a lot and will continue to learn as I still consider myself an android "newbie". In this last month I've been promoted at work and have new responsibilities, lost my house because my landlord wasn't taking my monthly lease and paying the mortgage with it, found out that my wife has a rare disease called PCOD which will prevent us from having any more children and been temporarily institutionalized for trying to kill myself via alcohol poisoning. In all of this, I've continued to try to work for the community. I know other developers have gone through the same things, and more. These people put their lives on hold to help the community and they deserve recognition and respect.
I couldn't completely remove LED support since it exists in too many places throughout the rom, so there is a code base for any new developers to build off of, but right now it is not and will not be fully functioning.
Call me selfish, I think of myself as a credit to shunned developers everywhere. Until Zachattack stops begging on his twitter for his friends to spam and flame my thread, stops botting forums to advertise his roms in everyone else's threads and until he openly and publicly admits to all the developers he's ripped off, I will not release my native LED support. Not in my own roms or in anyone else's.
I will be available for discussion to developers who are interested. That is all.

On my MT3G I've clocked this at 2 (SOMETIMES 3) rings for call lag, way better than 5-6 on other Sense roms. I'm still trying to make it faster. The problem with call lag seems to be related to broken bluetooth. If I either fix bluetooth or remove Bluetooth calls from the phone app I should be able to completely end Sense call lag

Test it out for yourself. I didn't like ZX's hero 2.1, it was laggy for me. Not all at once, but randomly it would take 10-15 seconds to recognize a touch.
Just check them both out and use whichever one works best for you.
I wrote a small app that basically produces the autotune effect. It's based on the AutoTalent LADSPA plugin, by Tom Baran, available here: http://web.mit.edu/tbaran/www/autotalent.html
The app is available under the name 'MicDroid' in the market, and the source is available at my github, http://github.com/intervigilium/MicDroid
There's still a lot of work to be done, including pretty much the entire GUI.
Currently my priorities are like the following:
1. device compatibility, I have reports of failure on G1, MyTouch3G, Galaxy S
2. graphics (being worked on)
The reason I'm posting here is because I don't have most devices (anymore), and would like some testers with different phones to get me some logs. Testers and feedback would be greatly appreciated!
If you run into force-close, or general app failure, grab LogCollector from the market, run it after my app fails, and send me the log!
Changelog available here: http://intervigil.posterous.com/pages/micdroid
downloading now, have an EVO and if you want me to test on my Hero I can do that too. I'm looking forward to the ability to use this while making an outgoing call, as that was the coolest part of the T-Pain app to me. Not really sure how it would be best to do that though, put a dialer into the app?
*EDIT*
Just tested it, works great so far, I actually would prefer the app to not have auto-rotation as it told me was in the last update.
You think you could have the library and the recording button on the same screen? Just put the button at the top and the library under it or something. I'm really excited for the development of this app, do you have someone working on the UI/icon yet?
So far this works on the Xperia X10i running Android 1.6 (FW R2BA023)...i'll test more tomorrow and have some colleagues test it as well. They all have various different devices so I'll get extra device feedback.
Force closes on Nexus One 2.2 Froyo CM6.

Its actually working fine now. I had to reboot but the app is great, albeit lacking in the ui department.
force close on Hero running Darchstar 2.1 rom
Is there not a way to do a real time voice changer, as opposed to record, change, and play?

Firstly, where does it force close?
And secondly, I've got a lot of requests for this, but as of current Android 2.2, I don't think it can be done. That was what I tried and failed at earlier, but currently I just don't think the Android audio API is quite mature enough to allow it. You can check the following links for more information.

Force Close when I hit the record button on my HTC Incredible
Bravo for starting this project, this looks like it has a lot of promise.
I have it working on my Incredible running the YASR 1.1 rom.
Thanks so much and can't wait to keep testing this app out.

More details please, you're the first person to report a problem on the Droid Incredible.
is there any chance of adding the ability to choose a "save to" format? my colleagues and i were playing with it on our various devices and wanted to send them to each other via MMS.
the only problem was the WAV file sizes ended up being too large (for anything over 8 seconds).
perhaps AMR or some other standard compressed format usable in MMS messages?
i did find some workarounds to get the wav files attached and working but it required 3 different apps.
thanks and love the work you have started on this.
Warning: rant about Android APIs
I actually chose wave format because it's pretty much just writing raw short data, which makes it easy on the device CPU. The problem with Android right now is that I haven't seen any sort of encoder API, which is lousy because there is hardware support for AMR compression. (for voice, and also if you use MediaRecord API)
If I were to integrate a "save as format" feature right now, I'd have to implement my own encoder, whether it be for MP3, AMR, etc, which is again, slow, and kind of a pain.
The one saving grace of this is that if I was to implement a "save as format" feature right now, it would only need to encode when you select "send to", which means I'm not going to dismiss it until I can prove it won't suck too badly.
/rant
Also, current status update:
I'm working on some device compatibility issues right now, I'm hoping to push out some updates in the next day or so which will hopefully address some force-close issues when recording.
Graphics are being worked on, it's something I'm aiming for in the near future, so stay tuned!

thanks, haven't seen this one before, will look at it.
Also, I'm still getting plenty of reports of problems on the Droid Incredible, and could really use a tester.

I'm looking forward to the ability to use this while making an outgoing call, as that was the coolest part of the T-Pain app to me. Not really sure how it would be best to do that though, put a dialer into the app?

No force closes at all on my HTC Incredible.
As it is not yet published on the net by the time writing this post, I can't tell whats all new, since I need to explore it too.. however.. have fun ;-)
Trying to figure that out myself. Standby...
EDIT: after playing around for a few minutes, I don't notice anything different. I'd love to hear if anyone else finds anything, though.
Got a link to an announcement or anything? Could be updated for australia getting google nav tomorrow?

Nope. "Failed to move application. System updates cannot be installed on external media."
The Australia Navi is my best guess, though I'm in the USA and can't confirm.
Had same issue at first (installation unsuccessful). So I uninstalled map updates from settings and installed again from the market. Worked!
New features were related to rating a place and getting more personalized search results. Also UI did feel snappier, imho
google hotpot maps 4.7

I had a weird phenomena. Checking under Apps i found 3 times the same instance of Google Maps 4.6 - that's why i went to the market to actually uninstall, and found myself with an upgrade available.

It starts tomorrow (Wednesday).

Some people have had theirs enabled a bit early, so it seems like there's a bit of a staged rollout. Don't freak out if yours isn't enabled first thing tomorrow morning, might take even a day or two.
Google Navigation now available in Australia. Tried it at 11:55pm last night as soon as the update was offered.
pls post some free download links . I dont see it in market
