Added modified GMail v3.2.1 for HC and GMail v4.0.3 for ICS based ROMs. Make sure you download the right one for your OS (GB, HC, or ICS).

Hey guys, for those of you who didn't know, the Gmail application now RESTRICTS access to your emails by third party apps. This basically means that any app that needs access to your email database (for example, Pure Messenger Widget) will be LOCKED OUT and therefore Gmail will be disabled in said application.
So I went ahead and modified the latest Gmail apk to ALLOW EXTERNAL ACCESS to re-enable support for apps that require it. Hope this helps anyone who needed it.
Install Instructions (YOU MUST BE ROOTED!)

0) DOWNLOAD CORRECT VERSION FOR YOUR OS AND RENAME TO Gmail.apk
1) Open Root Explorer (or any other root file manager you like)
2) NAVIGATE to /data/app
3) DELETE com.google.android.gm-1.apk (it might say com.google.android.gm-2.apk for some people or it may not exist at all)
4) NAVIGATE to /system/app
5) Mount Read/Write
6) DELETE Gmail.apk
7) COPY new modified Gmail.apk into /system/app
8) CHANGE permissions to Owner = read/write, Group = read, Others = read.
---(The following may not be necessary but its HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!)---
9) REBOOT into Recovery
10) Wipe Cache/Dalvik-Cache/Fix Permisions

11) REBOOT!
NOTE: Some apps may require you to uninstall and reinstall the program before it is able to see the change in Gmail (for example, Pure Messenger Widget)
DON'T FORGET TO HIT THE THANKS BUTTON!

I was having issues with regards to getting the app to show up after reboot but realized it wasn't actually a problem with the modification, but it was a problem with the permissions.

Thanks for this, I've been looking for a way to make LED Flow change the LED color for emails from different contacts!
No problem everyone, I will keep this thread updated with newer modified versions as Google releases them.
What do you mean when you say "mount read/write" in step 5?
Nevermind, I figured it out. Explorer didnt allow me to mount r/w or change permissions so I installed Root Explorer and worked it out.....much better file system explorer btw. Thanks for the tutorial.

THanks for this, it's exactly what I've been looking for however I seem to get stuck doing the steps involving pasting into system/data basically nothing ever pastes there despite me setting the read write permissions as suggested. Guy who got slidescreen working using this how exactly did you go about it? exactly as described?

I created a simple app to tweak imilkas AOSP ICS.
Its still alpha and need to be tested.
Features
Enable/Disable Tablet-Mode (@320&213DPI)
Enable/Disable E-Pen cursor
Not much atm, but I will add all those mods, which will come up
Usage
Choose the option you want to change.
You have to wait for the SU-Toast-Message, otherwise nothing will happen.
If no message appears - try it again
You have to reboot after finishing

Permissions
Read/Write SD card - For writing and reading the files which will be putted to /system (like build.prop)

I tried to include your on-screen-buttons framework-res.apk
But it keeps crashing even when going back to stock apk.
I dont know whats wrong there.
Permissions was set correctly.
I think I'll have to try some more.
v0.2 is up.
Hope it will fix the problems that nothing happens when selecting an option.

Doesn't do anything for me.
App has superuser rights but after a reboot both settings didn't change. Tried 3 times now.. I get the toast message and I am on imilka's AOSP rom.

It didn't work for me a couple of times, but then changed the /system to r/w using root explorer and it works!

Thanks for that. but I got it working on V2. the problem was I had to manually go into root explorer and enter into system/apps then make sure it was set to rw. then it worked.
Is there ways to change dpi so just the apps/home screen are bigger? all this empty space!

I love Yor MODE m8 but I have one problem. When I enable Tablet UI and after phone rebot and I start ie. Clock to set up alarm I get this error: "Unfortunately, Clock has stopped."
Same happend with allmost every app I like to runa and change some settings.
Also when I start AOSP Tweaker I got error massage: "Unfortunately, AOSP Tweaker has stopped."
When I return LCD denety to 320 everything work as a charm.
Someone some idea how to resolve this isue?

I just put CM9 nighlty and the Matr1x's kernel on my Nexus S but now, I can't copy the Apex apk on /system/app.
Does someone have ever experienced this ?
Try installing it , allow SU permissions. After that, clear defaults and data. I've did it that way and it always works. I can try it right now just to double check. You can try using root explorer or an equivalent. Mount the system R/W, copy the apk and move it to the system folder. You may have to reboot the phone though. Ive did it that way once.

Why don't you just enable the root option and get the same functionality?
That's what I was getting at. Lol. For some reason, at least for me, you have to untick and retick the Widgets in drawer function for it to work .

Because I was used to install it on the system. But i could do it.
hi all i successfully change the default samsung keyboard with swiftkey X simply copy in system/app and blocking the samsung keyboard, now when i erase ram the default keyboard is swiftkey (first of mod, when i use script v6 than i erase ram i must to go to set every time the swiftkey but with this metod i resolve it)....now the problem, i try to use the same passage but using the new beta of swiftkey 3 but a recive force close constantly....how to resolve????
Change permissions for it after you push to the system folder and restart your phone. That might help.

You need to install it after you push it to the system folder. Just click the apk and select install
i try to install after copy in system/app and work But when restart phone give force close

now work!!! i do this passage
1- install swiftkey normally and configure it
2- freeze all other keyboard
3- restart phone
now you have a good work system keybord
I don't know if this is still of interest, but:
This guide for the Nook Color applies to any device when moving keyboard apks to /system/app.

You need to move the lib file from "/data/data/**yourkeyboard'sapknamehere**/lib/" to /system/lib.
So in case of SwiftKey it would be /data/data/com.touchtype.swiftkey/lib
At least that did the trick for me - no FCs any more.
Hi, I'am newbie at android device.
And now I have Hisense AD686G a.k.a Andromax C. It's from Indonesia.
I have problem yesterday. When I tried to edit my framework-res.apk via apkeditor and many way I could find on google but I have these problem:
1. After I've copied my work on /system/framework and changed the permission, my device automatically reboot in unproper way and then show locked homescreen and I try to slide lock button its not responded, then when I trying to reboot by pushing power button, same thing I got.
2. After I've copied my work on /system/framework and changed the permission, the screen shows normal view my rebooter work fine. But after I reboot my device there's error message like "Unfortunatelly [app] has closed" each application is calendar, Google Store and many more.
I try to solve this by fully wipe the storage and then factory reset, last time I try to format system too.
Now I reflash my ROM. Its normal. But I still courious, why that happen? Anyone can tell me?
