Last I checked, the x10 had 54.9% of the votes and the galaxy s had a measly 45.1%. Might I ask that all you people remedy this?
Google "fonearena smartphone championship semi final" and let's show those x10 losers that we have the better phone!
They have working GPS and tons of people use that.
My GPS works well enough. They don't have multitouch and they won't be getting 2.2.
Vote in!
1. I didn't know about this "smatphone" poll
2. A poll where the winner gets <500 votes hardly matters
3. A link for people as lazy as I am might drive people there.

I have the Captivate. I bought my wife an x10.
The X10 works out of the box. No GPS issues. No battery issues. I did have to return my first Captivate. X10 does not have as brilliant a screen, but a cool interface that dynamically updates facebook, etc.
X10 is a better phone.

And we round it off with an opinion. I can match that. I found the X10s interface to be cluttered, slow, and highly unresponsive. The only Android UI that's worse is the original MOTOBLUR.

And here is my issue with your statement. Had you just said you preferred the X10, I would have asked why, but I can't take issue with your opinion. My OPINION is the X10 (X10a especially) is a phone that was released a year too late. I'm sorry. No phone launching this late into 2010 should be running anything older than 2.1.
And if you really do want to state your opinion as fact, do it in another subforum. I don't go to someone's house, call them an idiot, and expect to leave the same way I came in.

This is weird. I'm just a guy with two cell phones. One works out of the box, one often doesn't. There no question that the Captivate has had widespread GPS issues, and battery issues. It seems to me that, browsing through forums here and elsewhere, the Captivate has a fairly high return rate, and the X10 does not. Perhaps your impression is different, or perhaps there is statistical data somewhere to counter this impression.
Now, if that's true, I would think that it would be fairly uncontroversial to say that a phone that works is better than one that doesn't, and that a phone that ships with an unusual percentage with features that are just broken is inferior than one that consistently works out of the box. That would be true even if the operating system on the working phone were outdated.
But, regardless of whether I'm right in those impressions, I can't fathom the hostility of your response, or the demand that I leave the "subforum." I don't understand the reference to calling people idiots or "someone's house." (Apparently the problem isn't just that I have an opinion, or that I don't preface my opinion, rather needlessly, with "IMHO," but that I'm only allowed to say the X10 is a better phone in the X10 subforum).
I don't know why the X10 owners are called "losers" in this thread. I don't know why I'm attacked for liking a phone in this subforum, instead of one two clicks away. These are phones, not extensions of my personality or statements of someone's worth as a human being. Do we live in a society where a person can't post a couple thoughts on a cell phone without someone taking it as a personal attack, or launching a personal attack?
I doubt Galaxy S will win; even though it should. The Sony name carries to much weight PS3 lovers will vote Sony just because it's Sony.
go and vote!!!!
The pantech breeze 2 (clam shell) never gets returned at my job (AT&T)... Does that mean it's a better phone?? I so scared! The sony gets exchanged for the captivate quicker than the iphone 4 does. Its slow and the screen is horrible. Not my words, words of customers. I ran a quadrant on it just for fun. 418. Lmao. Come on. 2GB internal memory? Oh but I forgot, facebook rulez brah! EPIC fail, my friend.

There is No Way x10 is a better phone.
Unacceptable period. Anything that works out the box its a better phone than the captivate, no GPS, had to apply lagfix because phone was so laggy and I return my girlfriend and mines and the new one had the same issue. Fed up , I'm selling it soon. The bad thing it at&t don't carry any good Android phones like Verizon, sprint, Tmobile.

My co-worker has the Samsung Vibrant and I have a Telus HTC Hero. I played with it and can tell you that the Vibrant is a fantastic phone. It’s lightweight, the screen is awesome, it’s very smooth scrolling, and opening up apps is a snap. It came pre-loaded with Avatar and all I can say is WOW. The Captivate has similar specs because it part of the Galaxy S Series from Samsung. I would expect the Captivate to be just as good as the Vibrant but can’t say for sure.
If you keep waiting for the next great thing you will never buy a phone because there’s always something better on the horizon. If you really need an upgraded phone and can do it now, just do it. I hear the Dell Streak is also good but it’s kind of large. This is just my opinion and I hope it helps you somehow. As for Froyo, it will definitely make the Captivate an even better phone, it’s that good imho.

I was only using the t-mobile Vibrant as a comparison to the Captivate so you can make a somewhat informed choice. The Vibrant and the Captivate are very similar and AT&T has the Captivate.

The X10 supposedly doesn't have multitouch hardware from what I read . Everything else is pretty good from what I understand. I would also be worried about Sony updating the phone from Android OS version 1.6 which ships with the phone. They really didn't support the Xperia X1 like some would have liked. If not for XDA that phone would have really been lacking.
So, if the lack of multitouch hardware and having version 1.6 are things that bother you I would skip this phone.
yeah i read that too. i have a new question though about the 2gb data cap. ive been reading up on how much that is in real world use but it is hard to actually tell. how much data do you think one would use just have like a facebook widget constantly on and weather and emails

This is just my opinion but, I would worry about the 2GB data cap. I know you think you would only be using Facebook, Weather, and Email but I don't think it would stop there.
Remember this is a smartphone capable of many different things. You will find yourself wanting to stream Youtube, Pandora, GPS with Google Maps, and using free ad supported apps/games from the Android Market. This is just an example of a few things. Doing all of these things you will go over the 2GB data cap in a month. I’m routinely over 5GB.
If you really stick to only the 3 things above you will be fine. Only update the Weather every 3 hours and use WiFi whenever possible. There’s an app in the Android Market called NetCounter which will help you monitor your data usage on both 3G and WiFi.
What other phones are out there that can be unlocked and used on the ATT network with 3g that have similar features to the captivate? Any ideas would be appreciated.
Not a one, unless you count the iPhone 4...
The GT-I9000. Its a Samsung Galaxy S. Not branded or any extra names like captivate, vibrant, etc
Sony Ericsson x10a. That is from Rogers or Brazil. However AT&T will recognize it as a smartphone and add the data plan.

hahaha! dang. That was pretty freaking funny, mi amigo. So true. I was always ragging on the Captivate at first. "Its so boxy", "the screen is too tinted","its Samsung's first real smartphone" AND " just look at that horrid Touchwiz!"
And THEN...I got one for $74 brand new from AT&T!!! Holy Schnikies this is the BEST smartphone I have had yet. Of course the first thing I did was root it and get rid of Touchwiz. Not to mention I've alway been [first] a huge HTC fan and [second] having a hardware qwerty was of dire importance. Yeah, I was pretty much an agnostic. But now, I have seen the light. Not only that but the Captivate ships with 16GB on board AND I can install a 32GB card...UNheard of. I wouldn't even trade a brand new Nexus S for this thing. GPS? Sure, but with all the hackers programmers, and developers involved here (so much TALENT) I'm confident that we'll get the support and fixes we need.
Long live XDA!!

ps...what the EFF was going through the minds of HTC when they designed the Surround?!? Is it just me or is that thing really kind of ridiculous and gimmicky? I know they're doing it because they can...but just because you can doesn't mean you really should in my book. Certain things have never ever been done before, for perfectly absolutely good reasons. That mess never should have left the concept test lab.
It depends on what you are looking for. I honestly say the dell streak is a good phone. I also see some other good phones such as the Nexus one with AT&T banding and the Samsung I-9000(the original galaxy s). Its really up to you and what you want to do with the phone.

When I held the evo & its 4.3 inch screen I decided it was the perfect size. The streak is 5 inches. I wonder how many people feel that making the jump from 4.3 to 5 is crossing over into too big?

Probably not that many, but the jump from 4.0 to 5.0 is huge. I could probably get away with using a Streak simply because I don't put the phone to my face to talk on it much at all. That would be the only reason the Streak would annoy me.
Just Curious, anyone planning on upgrading to the Galaxy S II when it becomes available?
(Also, is a rooted / custom ROM phone also unlocked?)
Nick
IIRC, the Samsung Galaxy S II has an unlocked bootloader, so yes, developers will probably start writing custom ROMs for it.
For me, I'm going to keep this phone until my 2-year contract is up. Even if I had a chance to upgrade to Galaxy S II for free, I wouldn't, because I personally don't like Samsung phones.
I don't understand these questions...This phone just came out what in Feb? Most peeps are in a 2 year contract. I know I am....
I know there are some who buy out of contract but really why ask here and not in the forum for the phone you are in question of?
Most people are going to answer you with a no.
i plan to get the HTC Holiday off-contract but only if it has an unlocked bootloader

Yeah, I'm curious if people will want to switch enough to sell their current phones and buy unlocked. I'm not sure if these things sell well on ebay, but that's what I've done in the past when new iPhones came out.

I will preface this by saying while I make really good money( and work damned hard for it) I am not rich.
I have 2 inspires, one off contract and one on, and you can bet your sweet ass I will be getting the gs2. That is provided it lives up the hype and has proper dev support, which I imagine it will. I understand that in the inspire forum your gonna have a hard time finding anyone saying its not the best phone ever for all time, but I am not the typical owner. I dont have a "pride of ownership" complex. While I lOVE this phone, its far from perfect. The battery is a joke, the bluetooth radio is really weak, the cellular radio has a hard time, and the bottom/side covers fit poorly. Not my opinion, just what it is. The only thing that may be a bit subjective is the cellular radio signal. Buttttt I have tested 5 brand new inspires against a captivate, aria, iphone, and a dumbphone and it always has the weakest signal (in db's not F'in bars). I have flashed every radio/ril known to man, and while it will fluctuate a bit from one to another, as an average its mostly the same. I am talking strictly in signal strength (both edge/hspa) no stupid bars or speedtest.net results. I also tested the bluetooth on 3 inspires myself and had a friend test 2 and all did the same thing. It will start to break up bad if you cover the antenna(side cover) with your hand or move away from the source. This again is something I dont experience with my other plethora of phones. I tested it with 2 headsets and 2 different aftermarket headunits(car stereo). As for the battery, well come on do I really have to explain myself there. While I have gotten to get my phone to last most of the day, its still sub par.
Now dont get me wrong I absolutely love this phone, if not why would I buy 2, one off contract. Its fast, beautiful, made of quality materials, has an awesome screen, and best of all has AMAZING dev support. I only explain my issue cause I know Im gonna get flamed. I am just one of those guys that doesn't think that its the best because I own it. When we own stuff we tend to overlook issues and focus on the positives, which is fine provided it doesn't cloud your judgement. I love and have owned mustangs and camaros. I have also owned and loved yamaha's,honda's,kawasaki's,suzuki bikes. I love toys/gadgets of every maker and flavor. Hell I own an svt lightning but still dig the srt-10 and the cheby ss. And yes I have a drawer full of smartphones from htc, palm, samsung, and yes even the rotten apple.

Ok, so, let me start by saying, you must have a non defective unit for this lol... To love it.. I've had both defective and non defective and its night and day..
I love my g2x (had one since release give our take a few Weeks for the crapsation). This phone is rock solid. I love the speaker on the bottom under the awesome grill. The stand alone hdmi port is great for still needing to charge while using it. The iPs display at 4 inches is the perfect size, it has a amoled like color with sharpness in texts amoled doesn't give... I could go on and on, but I just wanted to state that i'm sticking this beast until I get my hands on a quad core. Nothing else is a upgrade...
Did mention the awesome games? Try sprinkle on this.. Smooth as a hit of Sativa..
no haters....
I love my g2x, ordered it minutes after it was available online. It works great never had any issues with it.

I like my G2x as well (love is way too strong a word here) but I would like it even more if the FFC were of any use, if the A2DP worked, and if the promise of vanilla Android leading quick updates had been kept.

Right there with ya. I've been on board with the G2X since early on. Got mine back at the end of April. Definitely love it, as much as one can love a phone. Lol
Thanks for this thread smashpunks. I know some people have legitimate issues with their phones. But it's nice to hear the other side of things too.
Love my g2x to death too just rooted and flashed to bionic rc1
After Gingerbread all is well for me!

Love mine even though it has screen bleeding. Just rooted and flashed Cm7.
the g2x is fine but i was watching the stock market and saw a lot of double purchases g2x stock and ky. so that is a little worrisome. im not buying any used g2x's.
Masters of redundancy here. How many times do people feel entitled to review a device? Or is this a cheap attempt to keep things alive in the G2x forum by prevoking argumentation since that is all these sort of threads ever amount to? From someone that makes it quite clear they are a frequent visitor of the g2x forums making yet another one of these threads instead of contributing to the plethora of similar ones screams "I want attention."
And since some are going to cry 'troll,' I'll say my piece: this phone is powerful but needs a "Some assembly required" sticker on the box. Other than that I stuck with this device thru my woes for a reason & I see nothing comparable to it despite its flaws.

Take a look at the popular game downloads, read a few messages, and see how many don't run correctly on the GSII and sensation. I am sure its a wonderful phone and whatnot, but software does not seem to work with great compatibility. Beyond running Tegra games, the Tegra runs all games with better compatibility.
See anyone posting that there favorite games don't work?
G2x is fastest on gaming benchmarks still.
Even i am loving my T-Mobile G2X so much.
In-spite of being purchased an used one off ebay, my phone didn't have any issues.
No reboots, no screen bleeding etc.
Very happy.
Just point me to a place where game discussions are happening around this mobile phone.
Just got my replacement. Haven't had one reboot yet. Battery is about 20 hours on stock gb . Lovin it.

So, I use wp7 right now. It's hands down my favorite OS. However, I want another OS to play around on more. I don't want an iPhone as they bore me, my options are android or meego. Here's my thoughts on each and the devices I'd get.
Droid Razr: Nice hardware, infinite marketplace, I've heard the sound is good. The cons are that the gpu acceleration is still... So-so... There's little chance of updates, I don't think much of the camera, and it will be outdated as quick as it was released. Unfortunately, this is the only android hardware I find considerable.
Nokia N9: Unparalleled hardware, great sound, outstanding camera, extremely well built OS, able to run most android apps. Cons are there's pretty much no chance of a further update (though the OS feels very complete.) the app store is limited, and there's not much in terms of games.
So, your thoughts on the matter? Price is also a concern I suppose. The n9 is much cheaper.
OP I'm sorry, not trying to be a ****, just kind of confused as to why this is posted in the epic 4g touch forums.
It's in the general forums...

If you're interested in android, wait for a phone that has better spec than the Galaxy Nexus and is running ICS. ICS is what makes the experience. It's a whole new look and feel than the previous installment, and in my opinion, runs a lot faster and smoother.
If you really want android after talking all that trash on it back in the gingerbread and froyo days, then you sir are insane. Unless you just WANT to start a flame thread.

Agreed; you should just get a Symbian.
sent from my Zerg Hatchery.
Why would I get Symbian when lag and instability are some of my biggest issues. Android has a lot of issues, whether or not you'll acknowledge them is up to you. Windows Phone has just as many issues, if not more. Windows Phone's issues just effect me less because of how I use my device.
KayxGee, thank you. A big concern for me is what the hardware looks like and feels like. Samsung is undoubtedly making the best overall android devices right now, but I haven't seen much android hardware that I like the look of. The Note isn't too terrible.
What are you looking for in screen size, camera, etc? What carrier?
You should definitely try out the N9. The camera is amazing and the OS is definitely different and will be fun to try out
Get the Galaxy S II, not the Razr. the Razr's battery SUCKS.

The Razr has a better battery life than the Samsung galaxy s II. I dunno what your talking about loool. I have the galaxy s II but when I got the Razr you could instantly tell the Razr had better battery life.
I'm selling my galaxy s II cause I simply prefer the Razr n with that money I will get my self the LG 4x
OMG. Counter Strike On Android! http://cs-portable.net/
I wouldn't buy another GS2, that thing is hideous. I sold my first one and was happy in doing so. I don't care about screen size or processor power, WP7 has shown me that that stuff is primarily a gimmick and is largely unnecessary. I want a device that's aesthetically pleasing and sturdy. As long as it's powerful enough to emulate an SNES my gaming concerns are non-existent. It just seems most android manufacturers are concerned strictly with screen size and processor power rather than the overall quality of the device.
You guys really should stop feeding this thing.
This is obviously a thread for promotion, and flames.

I would, but I could not switch to a CDMA carrier. I swap sims way too often.
Xperia Play has a GSM version as well.
