Android 2.2/Froyo Available Soon For Vibrant - Hope For Captivate? - Captivate General

So, this was just posted on the T-Mobile UK site. I hope this means the US side will be following suit in the same time frame. This is the first "official" word Ive seen of a 2.2 update coming down the pipe. Just thought maybe that meant AT&T wouldn't be far behind with their update...

This really sucks! At&t hasn't sent me any updates on anything not even FOTA yet and I purchased this Captivate a day after it came out. Now T-mobile will be recieving the first update Froyo for GalaxyS! Ugh! I'm getting frustrated!

Ok. I am a newbe. I got the Captivate about 1 week ago. everyone is talking about Froyo and I am ready for it. Today I went to menu>settings>software update.
it check and updated something. nothing major display changed.
If I go to About Phone in system settings it says 2.1 update1. I am not sure what it said before. I am assuming From what I have read Froyo is 2.2.
So i Guess I got my hopes up for nothing.
I have checked for updates about everyday and today it had one yesterday it had nothing.
Just FYI

That's T-Mo UK, not US. Also, that references the Galaxy S, not the Vibrant. T-mo UK carries the i9000 Galaxy S, not the T-959 Vibrant that T-Mobile US sells.

The G2 is a pretty good option, or even the MyTouch 4G. Research before you ask questions
Right now T-mobile doesn't have a HTC Android phone. The G2 is going to be the best bet for you but it is not going to have the hot spot or wifi "n". I would wait because Samsung is supposed to be releasing there "flagship" phone on Tmo and it is rumored to have all of you listed requirements.
i suggest waitiing till febuary, when alll the dual core android power house phones are realesed... they will be twice as fast as your iPhone! in tthe mean time just hold on to your device, or if oh are really desparate, the Desire HD is a good iPhone alternative.
very cool info...thanks for all info provided...i have no problem waiting to see what comes out next month...

Uhh...The G2 is made by HTC. And so is the MyTouch 4G...Also the original MyTouch 3G (not suggested) and the G1 (stopped selling, not suggested).
How much $$ have you got to spend? You should check out Desire HD, it spanks iPhones ass.
You could also wait for a bit if you want to get a dual core phone.

Don't go with Samsung. They're all about getting the hottest hardware, but they never deliver updates. Look at all of the US Galaxy S models (Vibrant, Captivate, Epic, Fascinate, Mesmerize). Not one of them is officially on 2.2 even though first they promised it in October, then November, then end of year. And when they released it for the Canadian Vibrant (which is basically the i9000), they fried the internal memory. And then they went and released 2.2 for the Intercept on Sprint (not even the Epic!) and that bricked most of them.
You want to go with HTC or any other brand, but not Samsung if you want quick updates, or any updates at all.
You want proof Samsung sucks even more? They're releasing the "Vibrant 4G" on T-Mobile, which is the same Vibrant, but with HSPA+ (4G), Android 2.2, and the Front-Facing camera that they yanked out originally.

Gingerbread for the Samsung Infuse 4G with AT&T

Yes I'm a NOOB!!!
Does anyone know if Samsung & AT&T have ditched the efforts in getting out a Gingerbread update for the Infuse? I bought mine near the beginning of August & have been waiting for the release. I can't get any answers from either company about when they might know. They say they will let me know via message when they release it. Not very happy with AT&T or Samsung right now. I am about ready to download it from a third party site but I haven't a clue as to how it is done.

versions

I am having a data connection issue with my verizon s3 and battling verizon support.
My phone has
Baseband Version
I535VRLF2
and a friend has
Baseband Version
I535VRLG1
Exact same Samsung Galaxy S3 from Verizon.
Yet Verizon says that the G1 version does not exist.
I just want to reach through the phone and strangle someone.
How can they deny that there are two versions *GROWLS*

Did you pre-order yours and the friend get there's after launch? VRLF2 was what was launched on the pre-ordered and early launch devices. Devices ordered later have the "updated" sticker and come with VRLG1 and apparently removed universal search due to apple whining. IMO the VRLG1 baseband is crap compared to the VRLF2 one especially in low signal areas.
I am happy that you posted and cleared up that version issue with me.
Currently my issue is that at work in a solid 4G area, there is a 3G extender however my data connection cycles through 3G, 1X and no connection. It is extremely frustrating. However my friend's phone doesn't have that issue.
I don't understand how verizon can deny that G1 exists. I have had this issue since getting my pre-order (7/9/12).
Forgot to mention that the pre-order phone was replaced so now I'm wondering why I didn't get the "after launch" G1 phone.
So I called verizon today again and asked for the I535VRLG1 version.
Was told that they
do not have it
can't sent it
do not support it
The verizon phone I see it on much be rooted or hacked.
Yea cause my company rooted all the phones before handing them out to their employees.
Amazes me verizon gets away with this crap.

[Q] Rogers xt925 Jelly Bean

Any word on if Jelly Bean is still on coarse to be released later this month?
Or had it been delayed again...

According to mobilesyrup, "early February" now. Looks like it isn't too far away.

I got my Fido RAZR HD from Canada yesterday - presumably Fido have the same update schedule as Rogers?
Still waiting for a SIM unlock code at the moment, so I can't even use it yet, booo

I'll believe it when it's released. I was told "Late November" when I bought my Razr HD. Slipped nearly 3 months already. I'm expecting March, honestly. I think there's something in Rogers bloatware that isn't transitioning to JB well, and that's the holdup. No other good reason for it to take this long, since other XT925 have JB since Dec.
Hah, yeah you may be right about the bloatware it should be exactly the same as the international version (e.g. Euro models got JB late November), but with slightly different radio firmware...
It is pretty strange and frustrating rolling back from a two year old Nexus S on 4.1.2 to a brand new RHD on 4.0.4!
I know the feeling. My last phone was a Motorola Defy on CMX 4.1.2, and that phone started on Eclair.
Mods, this thread should be moved the Q&A since it isn't development related.
Next, about Rogers; I don't believe that it's their bloatware. I think they have resource problems with carrier testing. All of the updates I've seen issued from Rogers Motorola devices have had build dates months behind then when it was actually released. I wouldn't be suprised if the Rogers JB 4.1 build is dated October 2012. I think Rogers should setup some kind of early testing program for people who want updates on their phones faster, which would allow the user population to do the testing for them. I'm an IT guy and expect some problems with my technology, if I can help the company sort out bugs faster than they can find them I think we would all be a lot happier.
FYI, the Fido and Rogers firmware are the same build. When you put in a Fido SIM card, it removes the Rogers bloat and installs the Fido bloat.
Finally, until anybody has actually used a Verizon branded Motorola device, please don't talk about "bloatware" like it's so bad... We have like 8 apps that we can freeze, you should see what's on some of those VZW phones...
Haha, ok agreed on the Verizon bloatware... let's maybe just call it fluffware or something
Interestingly, when I got my Fido device, I put my T-Mo UK SIM in straight away and it did not prompt me to install crap at startup (i.e. with this).
So afaics, there is no fluffware on my phone!
Sad and annoying to hear about Rogers' testing bottleneck, but one has to wonder why they need to test so extensively anyway (vs. Euro operators for example). I mean, even Verizon beat them to the punch this time, and they have a horrendous rep for delaying firmware updates!

From another post they said maybe looking mid Dec. Who knows though. Verizon is last on everything! I've thought about jumping ship to sprint and getting unlimited there for 60per month but I hear bad things about the CS there. One verizon rep told me the other day that they were improving the battery for the edge to compete with the droids battery life. He said if that's true he was waiting to get the edge. Hopefully just a couple more weeks cause I've been waiting on this phone for about 2 years now. Samsung is supposed to be releasing a bendable display for 2015 http://www.phonearena.com/news/Sams...eils-5.7-unbreakable-bendable-display_id48046
Dammit. I have the 4 already, but will get the Edge. Hurry up Verizon...........
With all the phones sold over bkack friday weekend and a 14 day return policy I doubt we will see it before mid to late December as already stated.
Just an educated assumption.
