Computing speed doesn't correlate linearly with CPU frequency. See AMD vs Intel 3-4 years ago. AMD was rolling out 2.3 GHz and Intel 3.8 GHz and their speeds were comparable.

I was testing it out and it didn't really make much of a difference on my for Quadrant Standard. I used SetCPU and put both min and max to 1.3 and set scaling to performance and not a big change. I dunno if I'm doing something wrong.
well i'm also deodexed kd1, bali kernel so i dunno n also runnin the touchwiz 4.0(beautiful interface, just a btw)... well my overall performance improved n battery life surprisingly good... its been 7 hrs now and i still got juice...

What exactly do I have to do to OC it? I tried it when I had my Captivate but I thought that I needed a different kernel? SetCPU wouldn't let me go over 1ghz... But I do have the bali kernel flashed right now.
EDIT: Nevermind, I saw the other post right after I made this. Sorry to interrupt!

Quadrant Advanced provides the breakdown for each individual area (multi-colored).
http://slideme.org/application/quadrant-advanced
The thing about quadrant however, is it's not optimized or suited for the processor in our phones (Hummingbird). It was designed for snapdragon processors.
Additionally, Quadrant is sub par in my opinion on benchmark test apps (even though it's well known) because it does operations that aren't typical. If you get advanced you'll see that it does like 60% all IO operations, however thats a really strange test because it would be like you running a full on database on your phone.
So the scenarios and tests it runs are not representative of the scenarios you are going to use your phone to perform.
I like SmartBench better because it gives you an index for Gaming and Productivity.
Samsung Galaxy S 4G's will slightly outperform the snapdragon/adreno combo that you see in the MT4G etc. Very slight advantage. In regard to productivity it does well too.

U won't notice anything earth shattering from an extra 200 MHz. However for games and flash and videos it does help. Also improves app loading times and things like that so even though it doesn't seem to do much it does help alot when the phone is pushed to the 1ghz area

Scored 1263 Running deodexed KD1, with Bali kernel and spb shell (which is kind of a resource hog)
I know it doesn't truly give a benchmark for our processor, but just like getting your car dyno'd before you build it... it's good for a baseline number. And I was just under 900 stock.

I installed ROM Manager but it didn't want to do anything because it wants Clockwork Recovery and I have Revolutionary. So I didnt' take any chances.
I just did it again and came up with 1653.
Why doesn't it come up the same? More apps running in the background?
I just killed everything in memory, except for Quadrant and I just got 2030.
Just ran it again and got 2042.
Could it have something to do with cache?
I'm consistently getting 40 frames up the stairs, 60 out in space and 30 watching the DNA. (the graphics test).
Compared to my stock G2 (812 mhz) this is good. Without my CM7, I don't have a clock speeder upper and I haven't broken down and got Set CPU.
Just my $.02

One last thing. When I have shut down my ADW EX, the G2 used to take a long time to reset. It starts up within a few seconds now.

Hy there.i am the new owner of a super smartphone named sensation. I want to know what rom should i use for best performance and great battery life? I want to chose between the stock one, cm7 cyanogen, or android hd revolution. I see that most of you chose the revolutiob hd.....why?
I notice that i want a fully work rom, with all the features work properly.....so....what is the best rom for you?
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA Premium App
There is no "best" rom. Depends what you need. If you're new to the Sensation I suggest that you stay with the Stock ROM and kernel. In my personal opinion it's the most comprehensive solution that doesn't cause any side effects. I tried quite some of custom roms and either they where suffering from poor performance, contained bugs or just the battery drainage was unbearable. Not to mention that staying on the stock rom enables OTA updates.
What jackos is saying is right, there is no best rom. Its up to you to read through the threads and find a couple you like the look of. Then start flashing roms, eventually you'll find the one that does what you want. As long as you make backups you pretty much can't go wrong.
Thank you peopele for the answers.....

I would recommend giving Coredroid a shot.
They have released their final version, (2.7) it's a super stable ROM that i use as my daily, has great battery life (once calibrated) it's nice and fast and works without needing much (if any) tweaking.
But the best thing you can do is back up your current rom and try flashing a few, see what you like best. Sense or No-Sense, themed, stock, 3.0 or 3.5 there are many options.
Before I settled on Coredroid I tried CM7 and ARHD. I loved CM7 but I had a few issues with the ROM (mainly due to the camera) but I love CM7 and the support and updates that frequently get pushed out.
ARHD was great, everything was all good with that ROM, battery life was good once calibrated but I had issues with MMS that I couldn't fix so I tried out Coredroid and loved it.
The issues I had with CM7 and ARHD could have been fixed by me if I had the time and patience but Coredroid worked out of the box so was a winner for me.
Android Revolution
I use android revolution. I am a rather novice user, dont know all the ins and outs of Android (or Linux) and i think ARHD is pretty easy and stil you benefit from being rooted and having some more control...
That said the only other ROMS i tried are Revolver and RCMix, but i liked ARHD better because of the Sensation XE "unlock"...
Please tell me if the android revolution really makes an 1.5 gh procesor.....because i can't see how it does it.......it doesn't make sense.........it use less ram then the stock one?
Wich rom use less ram than the stock one??

Apparrently the sensation processor was underclocked, so most of the custom ROMS simply remove that underclocking. Regarding using less RAM, that is due to the ROM developers removing some pre-installed apps and services that consume memory.

1st is wrong, 2nd is partially right.
CPU is clocked at whatever speed by using CUSTOM KERNEL, it has nothing to do with rom.
RAM is normally freed by more aggressive task killer, sense prioritizing (major) + some apps removal (minor).
Again, all info is here, just spend an hour or two looking into it, will save you a lot of time down the line
Damn, tinky1, I can't believe you wrote this nonsense.
Of course Sensation has got a stock underclocked processor. You better read the Qualcomm MSM8260 whitepaper before you try to prove someone wrong.
Miui.us 11/26/11 FTW
I just have to say it. I have tried a ton of ROMS and just made my first donation to a ROM by the name of Miui. While bluetooth doesn't work for me it is still the best ROM.
My favorite things are...
Battery Indicator as a line running across the top
themes, there are just so many
battery and signal is amazing
I'd really like to see some signal strength tests for miui v sense roms, is there really that much difference between them?

First, if you want to stick to tech specs, then read that msm8x60 is native at 1.2-1.5, so TECHNICALLY its neither underckocked or overclocked between these frequencies.
Second, processor is not physically set to 1.2, its all on sw level.
Third, he said custom roms remove underclocking-wrong, just as I explained, its.custom KERNEL which deals.with clocks.
Fourth , before you try to prove someone wrong who is proving someone else wrong, do some thinking

I guess you don't know yourself what you're talking about
About the rom-kernel thing, I would agree with that if custom roms wouldn't overwrite kernels. So if you install a custom rom you change the clock too. Makes sense to me.
It depends what KERNEL is included with the ROM. So no, custom ROM does not under/over clock UNLESS custom KERNEL is included. So we are back to kernel being responsible for clock again.
Re your quote from another thread. Read again, carefully and take the note of word "kernel".
You seem to see what you want to see, instead of looking into post and understanding what it actually means. Re-read from my first post in this thread.

LOL, you're so stubborn
You said that it isn't true that Sensation processor is underclocked. Right? Or shall I quote you again?
brett_c wrote that custom roms remove underclocking. That's correct, because if we compare 1,2Ghz to 1,5Ghz it's clearly that technically speaking one speed is underclocked to another.
Another thing is that you wrote that CPU speed has nothing to do with a rom. That's not true, because we use cpu controllers to adjust the governors and frequencies. I could cook you a rom that runs at 500Mhz max without changing the kernel. So it's not only a damn kernel thing.
Ok, whatever. You seem to expand into too many things here.
As I said, nevermind.
There are too many IFs here to explain without going into it too deep.
I was only pointing out that processor=CPU=hardware is not physically underclocked on OG Sensationcompared to XE. It is downclocked using kernel.
Peace.

so what exactly does this do for the performance of your phone? Is it just apps opening up faster and games a little better?
I understand the performance gains in cpu overclocking for computers in that you get faster encoding for videos, maybe a few more fps in gaming etc but how noticeable is doing an overclock for your phone?
Is it more of a just because you can or is there a real benefit to the user that they can notice?
A 30% overclock on your PC might give you 10-15% better performance but does that equate to similar improvements with a moving to 1.5 or 1.78ghz on your phone?
