Droid2Desk - help a developer test a project - Android Apps and Games

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=777482
I originally posted the thread over there since I develop on a Nexus One, but I'd love to get some testing on other devices. If you want to help me out, grab a copy of the alpha build and let me know if it works. Feel free to just add your comments to the above thread.
Thanks!

Share your ROMs!

I apologize in advance if this isn't allowed, but I wanted to open the doors all ROM developers (any anyone else ) to our Evo forum (htcevoforum.net). We just setup a developer section, and if you PM with your Rom information I will be sure to add a section within the Developer forum for it.
We are looking to get the most out of our Evo's, and the users there would be very interested in the Roms developed here. Feel free to include your paypal info below your thread for donations! We look forward to seeing you there!
Again, apologies if this sort of things isnt accept (mods feel free to delete if so).

will you host the files?
I dont mind hosting the files, unless for some reason they are considered against HTC/Android terms of service?
From a bandwidth/server resource standpoint hosting them is no problem on my end.
Hosting
I have a server and can host files on ROMs if anybody needs it.

I also have a server.. 1TB at that.. Willing to give out love.. LOL
Unlimited bandwidth/disk space. Just PM me if you need a file uploaded.
Kinda feel like the tread derailed a bit
Again, I would love to host them at our forum, which would be ideal for anyone already there or looking for Evo information. Thanks again!
I have unlimited hosting if needed... Please 2.2 rom Please
1TB of b\w on a gigabit port at SoftLayer, beat that
Anyway, looking forward to whatever ROMs/enhancements that everyone comes out with. 2.2 stuff in particular.
Heck, I might be able to help with some coding if needed, though my knowledge of Android programming is very basic.
Why don't you people stop trying to throw him out of his own idea?
He had it first, find something else to do.

FroyoROMs.com - A site for everything Froyo!

Hey guys, I am happy that I am able to post this here after getting permission from the Admins! My name is Derek (aka viperboy on DF, Phandroid, and others) and I created www.froyoroms.com for Froyo ROMs and Froyo Development. I know there are already alot of forums for Android, but I wanted to give this a shot as this makes it easier for everything to be consolidated in one place.
I started this site up about 3 days ago so I don't have many users yet, but I'm looking forward to the site growing! It is completely free with no ads and you're more than welcome to just view if you want to even if you're not registered. I want to make it clear that I did this for the community, not to make money. I am not looking to compete with this site or any other site, it's just another place for Devs and Android enthusiasts to come together and enjoy all of the new ROMs and everything coming out with Froyo.
Speaking of Devs... I am looking to get some of you guys over there too! Again, I don't want to take you away from another site, but you have an open invitation to your own place over there. I can also provide you with...
Unlimited FTP storage
Your own board for you to moderate
A direct link to your board (example: www.froyoroms.com/developername)
your own e-mail address @froyoroms.com
As for the users, I ask you to please register over there, we would love to have you! As the site grows, I will also be looking for Moderators and I can provide you with storage space and your own @froyoroms.com e-mail as well. When that time comes, I will post more details about it in the Announcement section of my site.
If you have any questions, please let me know! Suggestions and feedback is greatly appreciated as this is my first website and forum and I believe that listening to user feedback is the greatest way to improve a site!
Again, thank you to XDA Admins and this site!
- Derek
I had some people register here after posting this thread. Just wanted to say thank you for registering! I'm working on some EVO how-to's and will get to the Droid how-to's hopefully tomorrow.
If anyone out there would be able to post how-to's (like rooting and recovery basics since there isn't much in the way of Froyo ROMs right now) that would be great! I am not familiar with all the devices so I could sure use some help!
Thanks again, everyone!

i wanna help with evo

T959V Development Knowledge Base

Hi Guys
I made a suggestion in the "petition for devs" thread, but with all the excitement
it passed by all.
let me make some assumptions :
1. Most of us love android OS very much and the freedom it gives us.
2. Most of us want to try new ROMs every once in a while and want to customize it as much as possible.
3. Most of us are technological freaks, with a good sense of learning and interest in technology and its implementation.
4. Most of us would like to develop for this phone given the time and knowledge.
Regarding the time, we're working on a time machine, but till then, what do you say we found a knowledge base for our phone ?
I'm sure Krylon, DSexton, DrHonk, Raver, FBis, Soma, Fluip (forgive me if forget someone) wouldn't mind share with us their experience and insights.
If it takes too much time and resource it's worth a fund,
since this would make us know the difficulties and barriers and make some of us become new devs and revive this community and its content.
Please let me know what you think.
Sent from me.
I have a few questions on some obscure problems, and will be happy to share some knowledge when I get some answers.
...But, most of the devs are doing can be found by using google or your favorite search engine or searching locally here on the XDA Forum.
If you're new to XDA, awesome! Start here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1282679
and here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=263
If you're new to rom dev, you can learn from the kitchens.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1257297 (Dsixda's Kitchen)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=990829 (UOT Kitchen)
Then use your imagination and search other device forums and the "Android Development and Hacking" forums: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=564
If you're new to kernel development, I'd suggest learning git and getting comfortable browsing github and reading through changes to learn.
But by far, the best advise I can offer is how to ask smart questions: http://catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html
EDIT:Specifically: http://catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html#writewell
Hope this is helpful!
Thanks a lot Behundven!
Is any of the links related to our special file system in t959v?

Well, I'm not a "rom chef". I like source code and specs/datasheets, and am not very good at reverse engineering.
Raver, Dsexton, Whitehawkx, and a lot of other could bring more insight.
You will gain more use of your 'knowledge to be' if you learn about Android instead of getting spoon fed tricks that are specific to this phone.
Try building AOSP and CyanogenMod for other phones (like i9000 on CM, or crespo on AOSP EDIT:Granted, don't try to run the output on your SGS4G! You could try it in an emulator.) just to get a feel for what it takes to build android from source. Doing this will also help you get all the right things installed on your build computer that you will need. (java jdk, toolchains, build required libraries, etc...)
I guarantee sgs4g will get cm7 (if not cm9 as well) in the future, and the knowledge you learn from building the other phones will come in handy when it is available.

[RECOMENDATION] Improve versioning

First of all I would like to say hello to everyone visiting this social space.
I created this thread having in mind that on developing software you will always have more than one version. As it can be seen on the developer's version history and storage space, no matter what developer is involved it is pretty hard to pick a good version or to realize which is working more or less better than a previous one you had before.
Maybe I'm not too specific. I am mainly referring to the custom rom developer's sites. It was very hard for me for instance to choose a proper CM9 build for my smartphone for the simple fact that there are many builds from many developers and each build has many versions.
My suggestion is for the developers to help us people that use they're software to better choose one of these builds by posting either a recommended build on they're thread or even in the directory since he is the one who knows best which build is the most stable and bug free and if he has some more time, maybe even post a bug to that specific file.
Why I am posting this is because It took me like 2 days for instance to get to a proper build of CM9 after switching through 5 CM9s and 4 CM10s and CM10.1 . I think this kind of information might make the life of us users a little more easy in picking what is best.
I hope you take into consideration this recomendation, it is my good intention into helping you helping us more efficiently.
PS: My recommendation is using a version history tool to do this more easily (I work in a research and development center and this is how all of our projects go since there are tons of version for each software.)

[R&D]New CM ROM project - TESTERS NEEDED

Hi everybody...I just moved on to this device and even if I've read this section for awhile and knew there's not much development I still have hope.
So, I've discussed with some people I know and there is at least the will to try to develop something. @javelinanddart made some nice kernels for my old device and he wants to make a CM ROM for S6 Edge. I know there were other attempts and I know they failed (at least here I couldn't find anything else).
He needs testers...and when I say tester I mean no newbies or users that just want to be cool..real, good testers. Someone who's able to flash and test kernels and ROMs, someone who has some medium to advanced knowledge and of course knows how to flash, take logcats and things like that. So don't jump in if you think you're not qualified. Devs are more than welcome to join this if they want to.
We would like to start a specific Hangouts chat for that to be easier to communicate, there will be NO public releases untill at least a bootable build is made. As with any other development, there is a small risk of bricking the device if something goes wrong but that's a risk we all know and accepted when we start flashing. So once again, THIS IS NOT FOR NEWBIES, please don't even think about asking to be a tester if that's the case.
If there is anyone interested, please let me know by posting here and send your Hangouts contact via PM (I don't want to have a public disclosure of personal info)
Also if there is detailed info about development for this device like kernel sources, device trees, vendor files and so on, please post the GITHUB links, it'll help the development.
Thank you...

Thanks for posting this. The kernel will probably be stock kernel with a few patches, i'll be releasing source for that immediately, however, the trees will be closed till we can get a booting build, once it boots, and maybe fix a few issues, I'll leave it there because I don't own the device (however clicking the donate buttons a few hundred times if you like the project might resolve that ) Screenshots can be posted here, and updates on what works or if it boots or not can be posted here, but most of the discussion will be in the google hangouts chat.
I'm looking mostly at @BMc08GT's stuff right now, and mythos.... something I can't remember.

Yes, we've checked that thread already but he said he's no longer working on S6 and his device start acting bad...so I don't think he will want to be into this, but maybe he can help with what knowledge gained during his tries

man..he wrote that allready (..... I know there were other attempts and I know they failed (at least here I couldn't find anything else)................)
so this was unneeded..
good luck at op..
thanks for trying port cm to s6 edge, good luck!!
I'm in for testing. I've been doing this sort of stuff since Android version 0.7 on the HTC Vogue, so I'm no stranger to the type of effort involved. I'll PM you my Hangouts details now.
I am up for testing on s6 edge g925f
Um, if I'm not mistaken both GS6 Flat and Edge have the same hardware so maybe you can make this thread in Flat section? It would get to bigger audience. Also what about funding the device to @javelinanddart? I have seen fundraisers couple of times so maybe we will start one here too?

I need a T-Mobile S6 Edge then, i personally don't care about getting one, I'm trying to help @Rapier out. I'll do as much as I can but I'm busy AF with school right now, idk if this will get far, or how far it will get
Tester
I am a tester for the g925f
I have a g925p, the Sprint edition. If this will be compatible with my device, I'd love to test. I know my way around a logcat haha
Sent from my SM-G925P using Tapatalk
I recently got my SG6 edge, i love the phone, it's design, the camera, but i damn touchwiz. it makes the phone look so cheap and laggy. so guys go for it - i'd also help you in testing
Edge and Flat version of Galaxy S6 share the same hardware so Flat version users can also participate in tests I suppose?
I know nothing about development but since we have unified kernels and roms that should be possible I think, right?
Wysłane z mojego One S przy użyciu Tapatalka
Count me in g925f
G925F here, I'd be willing to Test and report any bugs.
How come that you ask for testers while the thread has no pictures or progress ?!!
Do some updates tells what you did or what are you doing at the moment .
G925F , Here.
Any update?
Thank you for your work
I can help by Development and Testing too!
just send me a PM
don't know if you know about this :
