IPhone 4S

Thoughts?
In my option
Tegra 2 > apple A5
8mp camera with 1080p support (welcome to 3-5 months ago. Although the iPhone probably will have the best camera the IMO the iPhone 4 did. It was the fastest camera and produced the best pictures and video)
Support for Att 4g HSPA+ network (welcome to 6+ months ago and tmobiles hspa+ network >>> then att's)
64gb (cool but for $400 with 2year contract no thanks)
IOS 5 ( this will be cool. Although I like Android better I still think iOS is very nice and well developed and now that apple has copied all the advantages Android has I'm sure it will be awesome.... let the Patten law suits continue)
I think I got all the new things in the 4s.

I lol'd so hard at their announcement of the 4S. It is now obvious why Appple sued Samsung for the Galaxy S2. The S2 is more advanced and came out early 2011. Just wait until the Galaxy S3 is released with a 16megpix camera, hd amoled screen, and quadcore cpu.
I definitely do not want a rehashed iPhone4. But really, Tegra2 > A5? A5 destroys it in every benchmark I've seen since the iPad 2 dropped. They're not even in the same league. I love my G2x's build quality, but thats it.... after owning multiple dual core devices (including iPad2) Tegra2 is definitely the bottom of the dual core barrel.

I was keeping up on it too. I lol'd too. These ifans were totally dishing Android devices saying the iFone 5 will destroy any android phone... lmao and then it dropped. I heard the hearts hit their stomachs from my desk chair.
Basically they are releasing what the iPhone 4 should have been last year. Releasing it now is a joke.

Not really. When the iPhone 4 came out it was top of the line. There were no dualcore phone and the phone competing with it also had 1ghz processors (galaxy s evo Droid x Droid incredible etc).
Competing phones also had 5mp cameras with only 720p recording. And the iPhone had the best screen when it launched.

I like android and the Tegra is a lot better then the a5 but I don't think the iPhone 4s needs to be specced high because it goes perfect with the os. Just giving my opinion
I wanna see how the camera is on it. Should be amazing

Just another Apple piece of shart IMHO. I switched from AT&T and Apple when the G2x came out. Best choice I have made in a phone in years. Even with all of the issues at start up I still would NEVER go back to the Apple product.

I think about how much I still like my G2X better.
ONLY thing I 'm jealous about iOS is there battery life... we all wake up around the same time work jobs where we cant charge are phones or be on them much, and we meet up at the bar and my two of my buddies with iPhones have about 75% left where me and my friend (she has a droid X) have around 40% she actually has to charge her phone mid day cause she isn't rooted. My friends are a little jealous of me cause of what I can do with my android device with root and what not... That's the only thing though. Now that the iPhone's iOS 5 is announced and has a lot of android underneath it.... I might be a little jealous of them lol... just being honest here. I don't get how they have such great battery life compared to Android.

Underclocked processors. False multitasking. Software specifically optimized for specific hardware from top to bottom. Unicorn (or Unicron) blood. Absorbing millions of souls of innocent children. Gimping the hardware a bit to make the battery take up a more than significant chunk of the guts of the phone. Seriously, the iPhone 4 battery takes up around 2/3 of the inside space, or at least seemed that way when I opened one up for the fun of it.

ya all agreed with but there phone is still as fast as my g2x overclocked with a dual core processor, at least able to keep up with it so I can't really tell a noticeable difference... except in data speeds holy hell I'd kill myself with what they get on at&t... but in all seriousness I loves my android still. might not get 36+ hours but at least I'm not the rest of the pretentious douches (not all are but most I encounter). The friends that have it of mine only got it cause I told them it is a simple smart phone that is fast and takes good pictures, that's all they needed to hear, lol.

Hence why it is so popular. It is simple and takes good pictures. Most people aren't overclocking or running emulators via HDMI out and Playstation 3 remotes.

well my three close friends with iPhones always have over 70% especially the one with the 3gs after a 10 hour day, by the time we get to the bar they say they aren't charging it at all mid-day. I will have about 40%.
Either 2.3.3 Weapon's 2.5 best I was getting 15 hours with no games but everything else I used pretty heavy on the way to work and back from work, hour commute each way. Right now I'm on MIUI and since 8:30 this morning(its now 7:30pm for me) I'm at 50%, dont know why but I always get great battery life with MIUI just not stable enough for me. Either way I don't want an iPhone at all, haha.

I dont agree with any of that.
The camera comaprison you posted they all looked like crap and not one looked better then the other.
PLUS they didnt even shoot the same subject in each picture. That comparison has no credibility in my option.
I still think the iPhone 4 had the best camera. My Samsung Infuse camera is pretty good. But i think the 4S will be the best camera.
I dont believe the Tegra 2 is slowest. But i couldnt find a lot of info reguarding the newer cores. Only the older cores.
Dosnt really matter though because we will have the iPhone 4S for at LEAST a year. Where Q1 of 2012 the Kal-Ei quad-core chips will be out and Dual Core will be yesterdays news.
In the end though. The Tegra 2. Snap Dragon, Apple A8, and Exynos are MORE then enough CPU/GPU power for todays Smartphones.

Former I Phone User

My friend started with the 1st IPhone, went all they to the 4S...he just got an S3 2 weeks ago...his quote:
"ok.. so i have used an iphone and now a samsung .... the iphone completely sucks compared to this, and I haven't used 1/10 of the damn phone yet".
Just wait til he learns to root and flash!
Thanks for sharing that
I have a similar friend. He was one of those die-hard iphone fans that was interviewed by the local paper because he was first in line when the iphone4 came out. He loves his SIII but is jealous of my Note II
heh, i had a 3g when they were new and was constantly frustrated with it. it would turn itself off in cold weather, the speakers were inaudible, call quality was so-so. the network speeds were barely 3g, it didn't record video for atleast 2 years after launch then it was only 3rd party becase apple released the 3gs with video and wanted a selling point but the third party stuff was low framerate, not that video on that piece would be any good with a camera that was unusable indoors. it didn't mms for a year before it was updated and att decided it was ok. media sync was only through itunes and picture were only acessable through windows camera drivers. i had a wifi share app because i had windows xp-64bit (it didn't catch on and apple didn't have drivers) and the wifi app allowed me into the camera storage but apple made them change it. f-you Steve jobs. i'd have traded the great touch screen for a phone that wasn't such a piece or ****e in other regards. and why on earth didn't the iphone have turn by turn, why are apple people pissing themselve over that now with a nav app that doesnt even work? the damn lg envy had turn by turn.
so when my contract was up i got an aria, didn't get the captivate because i am not swayed by specs and $300 on contract was a stupid price. on day 29 of having an aria realizing i love android but hate the aria due to a screen that was not usable in sunlight, and the power widget was not just a nice feature it was a neccesity because htc had no idea how to manage battery life i returned it and get the cappy which dropped in price significantly by then. loved that phone but didn't like the pentile screen or the sloppy development it recieved. so i got the infuse and have been reasonably happy.
now i talk to apple user and every complaint i had about the iphone they say ohh "apple fixed that with the cloud" or what ever refering to storage limitations and syncing options. apple cloud services suck. googles are awesome no contest. if they loved the cloud so much they'd have androids. its sad soo many people don't even know what android has to offer. remember all the hype the 4s was gonna get facial recognition but it didn't and the g-nex got it and nobody seemed to notice? or the big deal about siri but google had a decent voice search for how many years? not as polished sure but they had it, and siri is no contest for google now. having actual conversations with machines is over rated. now i see people talking about apples panoramic photos.. wtf? people only know things exist because apple puts it on tv... my captivate had panoramic photos almost 3 years ago!
the crazy thing is the iphone has great hardware. it could do so much more if apple wanted it to.. they are letting google and samsung come up with all the new ideas and trying to sue over the old ideas. where is the inovation from apple because i haven't seen it in 4 years. they have only worked behind the curve to change the shortcomings of they original product and miss the mark on execution.

[Q] How Phones Will Evolve in 5 Years?

If you look back 5 years ago, I'm pretty sure people would be amazed at how far we've come with mobile technology. What do you think is going to change in the next 5 years?
Personally, I think the majority of phones will be bendable and unbreakable, like those featured by Samsung. Insane cameras (upwards of 20 megapixels or more with great quality, focusing, etc) and gaming performance rivaling an Xbox 360 are other things I feel like phones 5 years from now will have.
What do you guys think?
Myself, I'm hoping for Google glass like devices and augmented reality to take off a bit more as things get more powerful. I'm very much a believer in how we will slowly break away from having to stare down at a screen so much. Is it too nerdy to keep imagining something like in Dennō Coil?
Sent from my AT&T Galaxy Note
I read an article in Popular Science not too long ago about clear solar cells being integrated into cell phone screens to help charge the battery. I can't find it now, but the article claimed that a production phone utilizing this should be released this year - so maybe five years from now we'll be able to check the time on our phones a few more times a day without using up too much battery. Search for SunPartner group for an example.
I like the unbreakable idea. I think our phones will be like newer car key fobs, unlocking our front doors when we get close. My next electronics project (when I find the time) is to put a bluetooth radio in my remote-controlled power strip so I can run it from my phone/tablet. This stuff has been around for a while, but I think within the next five years it will become common. I also think inductive charging will become more efficient and standardized.
I was reading an interesting article earlier today about using cell phones as basic medical diagnostic devices. Look up "An App A Day" on Popular Science.

Thoughts on Note 3 and iPhone 5

I have a Note 3 AND an iPhone 5. I've been using an iPhone since the first one was released. When I purchased the Note 3 a little over 2 weeks ago I regarded it as somewhat of an experiment. As a result my iPhone 5 was placed safely in a drawer. 2+ weeks on I still find myself taking the iPhone out to play around with it and asking myself which phone I want to stick with. I still don't have an answer.
Random thoughts after owning the Note 3 for 2+ weeks and the iPhone 5 for a year:
1. The iPhone 5 is undeniably slicker. Everything feels so much more like it is working in harmony and I rarely if ever experience any system slowdowns or crashes. Since using the Note 3 I've experienced crashes with a few apps.
2. The iPhone 5 is also undeniably easier to get in and out of just about any pocket. Sometimes when I take the Note 3 out I have to be conscious of which pants I put on as some pockets just aren't deep enough.
3. The accessory situation with the Note 3 is absolutely putrid! I've scoured my town and found so little it's shocking. Contrasting that with the iPhone 5 is absolutely a joke, there are accessories EVERYWHERE for the iPhone 5.
4. The build quality of the iPhone is sublime. It looks and feels like a fine piece of jewelery. The Note 3 is merely ok. The "chrome" band that wraps around the phone is of embarrassing quality when scrutinized. It looks ok from a distance but look at it closely and it's just not a smoothly finished piece of material. The home button on mine and every other one I have tried is loose. It works ok but I am constantly adjusting it to sit level. These issues do not portray what a $700 device should.
5. I was literally shocked when I took my iPhone out of its safe drawer storage location and a notification came in. It sounded so loud and crisp. In comparison the Note 3 speaker is so underwhelming. I can't understand who decided this was a good decision. My Galaxy Tab 1 speakers (admittedly 2 speakers in stereo) sound infinitely better and at least from the outside looking at them are basically the same size each. Couldn't they use 1 of these in the Note 3 for a dramatically improved sound experience? Money certainly can't be the reason on a flagship phone, bad mistake Samsung. I would have paid $705 instead of the $703 I did to get a decent speaker.
6. On the bright side the Note 3 screen is EPIC. Not only in size but in quality. I'm not stunned when I go back to the iPhone 5 that its screen is poor, hardly. But the size difference is impossible to ignore.
7. How can you ignore the Apple ecosystem? For every app I've tried on the Note 3, the iPhone version was better. It's hard to put a finger on why, but that is my perception.
8. IMO the Note 3 is a great device but it feels very thrown together from so many often unrelated parts. It's like a car made up of Porsche, Lexus, Audi, and Mercedes parts, and none of the companies ever talked to each other. The iPhone is exactly the opposite, it feels like a tightly integrated machine. Like a Lamborghini, period.
With all of this said, the Note 3 is outstanding and I can't imagine ever going back to a smaller device.
so your basically saying every negative thing about the note and praising the iphone 5 i would be suprised if this place doesn't turn into a flaming centre and you are saying that you still like it ?? it's like saying my wife is a ***** but i still love her

Yes I still like it, very much in fact. I'm just giving the perspective of someone who owns both. Yes I did point out every negative I have personally observed with the Note 3. But all of these negatives combined don't change the fact that the Note 3 is a terrific device. BTW I'm sorry your wife is a *****.
You should consider getting iPhone 5s instead. It's clearly the better device for your needs.

This is the problem with Samsung. Its a cheap asian knock off company and their quality is typically asian. Samsung phones are franken phones made up of what ever pieces they can find. They are not put together with care or thought. If it fits it will go in.... Apple designs their phones which is why it takes 24 months for a new design.
If Apple launched a 5 inch iphone id likely go back to Apple. I used to use all the android features and freedom but now i cant be bothered.
To be honest im getting tired of the Android ecosystem of manufacturers. Only Apple and Nokia know how to make a quality made device. Samsung have no idea, Their S3 was ugly and their nature theme was a puke inducing typical asian idea that the west just doesnt get. Now these whole notebook theme is another typical korean theme that they think is "cool" The problem is that Korea and China and the rest of Asia have no idea what "Cool" is or even what good design is.
Clearly an iphone lover looking to start up a flaming thread....

Samsung have never made a cool phone ever. Never will either..
It's obvious that you purchased a device that you don't need . I don't think that a device sound be made of expensive materials here in Europe I can buy an original samsung back cover for my note 3 spending $3 I also can replace it's broken screen for 150$ try to do that with an iPhone so if can suggest something ...next time you gonna a buy a device just value your needs

Maybe you should take a look at the HTC One mate. Best designed phone around I reckon. Truly beautiful.
As for the rest, stick with 5 or 5s. Both great phones and seemingly fit your needs better. Alternately I'd highly recommend the highly acclaimed HTC One if you want a bigger screen than Iphone but want a gorgeous aluninium device rather than the cheaper plastic design of Samsung.
And to all the anti-metal lot... no, not every plastic phone feels cheap. (5c and HTC One X, etc) Samsung are just lax and can't be bothered with design.
I'm 100% with you, iPhone is the best. Android is just another Symbian and/or Java. I buy android phones for 2 reasons, first for the big display and second to test the apps for free before I buy them for my iDevices. I gotta tell you though this is the first time I used a Samsung device and the display is awesome

The HTC one is a nightmare. My friend had 5. The build issues are huge. Its a very nice phone and maybe next year if they make a follow up just as good as the one then i might jump. As long as they fix the dead pixels and poorly stuck down aluminium pieces. Slow charging and short battery life.
The Note 3 will have to do till next year. Im hoping things get better next year. Specs are now high enough for me not to care.. i want quality design and build now.

Since using the Note 3 I've experienced crashes with a few apps. Mac OS X runs lovely on a Mac, but you can still do more on a traditional PC, you can take full advantage of the entire provided hardware on the PC rather than on a Mac (overclocking, hotswapping of mods, hardware upgrades).
2. The iPhone 5 is also undeniably easier to get in and out of just about any pocket. Sometimes when I take the Note 3 out I have to be conscious of which pants I put on as some pockets just aren't deep enough. They are two different types of devices, one is a PHABLET, one is a PHONE.
3. The accessory situation with the Note 3 is absolutely putrid! I've scoured my town and found so little it's shocking. Contrasting that with the iPhone 5 is absolutely a joke, there are accessories EVERYWHERE for the iPhone 5. The Note 3 just came out, give it some time. Also the iPhone community is much bigger than the Note 3 community, because the iPhone has a tiny screen and most of the population have small hands and can't take the Note's big screen.
An iPhone is so girly, in the sense that they live the life of a girl, they would sacrifice everything just to look good. What does the iPhone 5 have? 3GB RAM? Eight-cores/S800 Quad? S-Pen? Big screen? Big battery? LOL should I even continue? The Note 3 is already so good, and packs all this hardware into such a thin form factor.
I would have paid $705 instead of the $703 I did to get a decent speaker. Well Samsung is notorious for speaker complaints, you don't really choose LG for waterproof devices, or Sony for the Nexus line, you know the rep of the phone you're buying, you're in for the problems. If you want a good phone with good speakers, try the HTC One with Beats (last model of phones to release with Beats on HTC).
6. On the bright side the Note 3 screen is EPIC. Not only in size but in quality. I'm not stunned when I go back to the iPhone 5 that its screen is poor, hardly. But the size difference is impossible to ignore. Both different kind of devices, screen size shouldn't matter, you can't compare an iPod Nano to an iPod touch, clearly there is no winner.
7. How can you ignore the Apple ecosystem? For every app I've tried on the Note 3, the iPhone version was better. It's hard to put a finger on why, but that is my perception. The App Store has been here and fully controlled by Apple ever since the 2.0 days. It obviously controls every aspect of every app, which limits developers to what Apple wants them to do. On Android, they could have been made by kids, grandmas or your mom, there's more freedom, but you can't complain because Google encourages more "free" apps to be developed to take advantage of the hardware.
An iPhone is like a Macbook, all software built for it's hardware. But an iPhone is so simple, and 'jailed' in a non-sandbox environment/containers that cannot essentially interact with each other nicely. What you get from an iPhone is if you want things to work, stay with the iPhone, you don't get more options than an Android, instead, you are running Touchwiz Home on Easy mode....more integrated machine? Well, as I said, Apple makes the software and hardware. Samsung, skins the original software from Google, creates the hardware, and also develops the drivers for each individual machine. This is why people mod cars, you can buy a closed system like Lamborghini or Porsche, keeping all their stock values and everything, limited from doing anything 'special'. One Android, you can essentially run Samsung/HTC/LG/Motorola specific apps on one device, and you can overclock it to make it faster too. You can't upgrade the graphics card in an iMac, but you can on a PC - means that when a new game comes out, the Android runs it better on a newer device by a different company the next week, rather than limiting down THE GAME to be able to run smoothly on an iPhone. People who think iPhone's are better, they're alright, because they DO NOT LIKE CHANGE, and they do not like to **** up or experiment hands on (no offence but it's true), and jailbreaking is just getting a skin + addons onto the device. On Android, you can run different platforms of OS'es, like Windows 95 (natively in VM) or Ubuntu 13 (as a complete OS install).
With all of this said, the Note 3 is outstanding and I can't imagine ever going back to a smaller device.

Just my two cents. Not here to flame the Apple-loving crowd roaming around an open source OS development website.
I used an iPhone for 2 weeks last month, I didn't notice this "Apple ecosystem" people are so much talking about. LOL even Play Store is way better than Apple's App Store. Also, of course iPhone accessories will be everywhere because they make so much money from Apple users. When I went to buy a Note 3 they didn't even ask me if I wanted extended warranty or not, somebody was buying an iPhone right beside me and I couldn't believe how they sold extended warranty(not Apple Care), screen protector and a case. If somebody is buying an iPhone, they're probably very naive, so upselling is very easy lol On iOS you have to wait for those annoying animations to finish before the screen recognises your finger. If this is what you call "smooth/fast" no thank you I'm happy with my "laggy" Android

Dreadful thread tbh
In regards to the HTC One, the earlier models may have had issues but from what I've seen the newer ones are fine.

Also, someone who can see the benefits of both OS is not an "Apple fan"
I don't own any Apple products and I was using a more productive but horribly laggy windows mobile back when smartphones were not common. By the time the iphone came out you could see that it was aimed at the more casual market and it has since inproved significantly but Android will always be the one for tweaking and customizing. There was no denying though that even from day 1, iPhone was much smoother and a better user experience in comparison to windows mobile.
Some people couldn't care less about that though, and people shouldn't get so defensive if someone wants to compare this phone with the iPhone 5. I don't have a Note 3 and I'm still on 2, and I read this part of the forum for general feedback.
Some people need to get a life and realise its only a phone. People will have different needs! If you really can't bear to see a thread like this and feel is MUST be locked down, then you really need to reevaluate your lives.

Were you aiming this at me, calling him an Apple fan?
Well...I never said the word 'fan', but he has a Note 3 and an iPhone, but he's more towards an iPhone, as they are more...an 'iPhone person'.
Back in the day, Apple was the new thing, cool, fast and everything. But that is in the past. Imagine running Symbian on loads of devices today, I'd go no phone forever. Windows Mobile 6.5 and below....were so slow.....so Apple fixed that, but now Android adds upon what Apple does, and Samsung builds on Google, but since Samsung's shares are increasing, Apple sues Samsung for all they got, instead of innovating as what Steve Jobs and past partners would have done.
The OP has a point.
people are missing the big picture.
this is not the tipical apple /android flame thread , because this are not tipical times . The tides are changing
.
the apple fans are here admitting the virtues off iphone but recognizing that note 3 is superior.
that post about asians suck at aesthetics .. oh man is so true! Note 3 wins .. but what is going on with the aesthetics? Its just screen basically. . Hard to miss .. and sometimes they do ( n 2 / s3 phones ugly as sin )
And android with TW is truly bad ! Thats why modding is good and we like . Those ex-apple-fanboys-still-think-they-are , probably run all stock.
Never owned an iphone , to me an iphone since day one, is a girl thing.

This is why they cant get enough of European brands and western luxury items.
Samsung have never made a cool phone ever. Never will either..

Buy a new Nexus 6P or used 40" 4K monitor ?

I currently have a T-Mobile Note 5, which I am fairly satisfied with, but I have owned every Nexus phone except the 2013 Nexus 5, and I have been eyeing the Nexus 6P for a while now, really missing stock Android, and the fast updates, as my Note 5 is still stuck on Lollipop, no MM ROM's even out for the T-Mo version yet.
I also like high res big displays for gaming and web work. I mainly play older less demanding games like Diablo ]l[, a little bit of WoW still, Team Fortress 2, and BattleField 3, not 4.
I am not mr. money bags, so I just sold my five year old Dell 30" U3011 yesterday on CL for $550, I'm back on my older backup 27" Dell 1080p display for now, so I have the cash to spare to buy the 6P or I found a local [H] member selling his Seiki Pro SM40UNP4k display. But I do get worried buying used tech, and the word on this monitor seems hit or miss, either you got a good one, or a flaky one with potential issues.
Buy the new Nexus 6P, or take the chance on the slightly used 4k monitor ?
Easy. Buy the 6p sell the Note 5. Save for a little longer to get the monitor.
