[Q] How to replace a stock kernel with another inside a rom. - myTouch 3G, Magic Android Development

I've been opening up cm roms and modifying them to the way I want them, replacing audio files, wallpapers, apps, icons, theme, etc etc for a few months now. I know how to include gapps into a rom successfully so I dont have to flash that separatly. My question if I wanted to remove the stock kernel from a nightly and replace it with say pershoots kernel how would I go about that? Thanks in advance

go to chef central download the nadroid kitchen, ther eyou can extract the boot.img and replace the kernel and pack it up again and build into your om, the kitchen is great, go try it man so easy that way

Thanks man

Or use Koush's AnyKernel update.zip template.

[Q] Kernel Extraction

How difficult would it be to "rip" a kernel from a ROM, to use in a different ROM? Is it a matter of pulling certain files from the zip and creating and signing a new zip, or is it much more involved?
Try it and find out. It's pretty easy to find. Not all ROMs include a kernel, so try out the Andromeda one for example, which does include a kernel.

If the rom you want to put it in has a kernel then it is just a matter of replacing the zImage in one with the other. Then resign.
For a rom that doesnt have one it could get a little uglier but still easy. (I just use one that has a kernel in it.)

So all I need is the "zImage"? I don't need the "redbend_ua" or files in any other folder?
And I did want to transplant this kernel to a ROM that doesn't come with a kernel, but you're saying that's not easy to do. So what if instead of putting the kernel directly in the ROM, I take a stand-alone kernel zip, put my zImage in there, resign, and install the kernel after I install the ROM. Would that work?

as long as the rom your using had redbend_ua then there is no need to copy it over, but its the same redbend_ua for both probably.

How to edit custom ROM

Hi I want to edit the FZF custom ROM for my Huawei U8100-9 so that I don't have to restore or flash apks each time.
All I want to do is take the FZF 5.2 rom, add some apk's to it, and be able to flash that as a ROM.
What do I need to do this?

[Q] How to change Kernel of ROM Before installatio in it's zip file.

I would like to learn how one can change the kernel/modem in a ROM's zip BEFORE flashing it. I often use the Entropy Kernel after I flash a new ROM. The Kernel has a zimage file. How do I incorporate it into the zip? Same for modem file.
Thanks in advance.

Whats worked for me:
First get 7zip if you are on windows
Open the kernel zip with 7zip move the redbend_ua and zImage into this location (rom name here).zip/updates
For modem do the same, open up the modem zip with 7zip, and then move the modim.bin into (rom name here).zip/update
You may need to delete the redbend and zImage already in the rom, but just overwriting it with the new ones should work
Once the new kernel/modem is copied over, just put it on your sdcard and you should be able to flash it without any problems

or just the zimage...since the ua is same...
Never tried it without doing the ua when it came to the kernel, but it does make sense since i never moved the ua when ever id move the modem

The ua is universal on all roms... its just an installer for the modem and kernel ... no need to change it. If the rom already has it then just replace the zimage and your good.

I request some experienced sr. member to comeup by posting new thread covering some of topics like safely adding and removing apks, libs. Fonts, apps, wallpapers, kernel. Modem etc. in Rom's zip with little flavouring. It will help new member to start some development work.
Thanks guys ... 1 more small step
hey can anyone give instructions on fixing RIL bug...it would be so much helpful...thnx

[MOD] CM7.2 FXP 125 ICS Style Lockscreen 20/06

Here's a Mod I've made for myself using UOT Kitchen, since lots of people like the ICS look, I think some people could be interested...
/!\THIS IS ONLY FOR FXP 125 SINCE THE MODDED FILES ARE FROM THIS RELEASE/!\
HOW-TO: Flash via CWM, if nothing change after the flash reboot, go in recovery, mounts and storage, mount system and data and reflash the .zip.
I don't provide any "undo patch", so do a backup of your installed framework-res.apk and SystemUI.apk before flashing in case you want to revert back.
If you have any question don't hesitate, and sorry for my bad english...!

Edit Custom Rom

Hello
I have one question with editing custom rom or stock rom
so I would like to edit rom but I do not know how
i just want add own app, change bootanimation, change name of rom, maybe edit style, add overclocking options, remove unusable app like talk.apk,tts.apk etc...
so i search tutorials on google but i understand it's complicated for me so please help me i try almost all tutorial that I found on google but I had no luck:crying:
i try with add my own app but when i install rom apps not show i just exctract rom with winrar then put app in to system/app then change bootanimation then zip and put in sdcard then install via clockwork recovery but bootanimation work perfect only apps not show!!What did I do wrong?:crying:
please give me detailed step by step tutorial or tell me how edit rom as i said I would only add apps, remove unused app, edit name of rom, speedup rom etc...
please help me I will very thankful to those who will help me
take a look here: how to edit ROM archive
here I just added a keyboard layout file to ROM archive then signed back
you have testsign.jar in attach -use it to sign your ROM
also look here: how to change splashscreen
-do not forget to sign back ROM file is not enough to make .zip
-do not copy apks to /system but /custpack
-if an app is not shown rename it no space between characters
i.e. if this is named "tapa talk" rename to "tapa_talk" or "tapatalk"
-do not touch system apps i.e. browser.apk, framework-res.apk
-to remove an app just delete it
Overclocking ...you will learn it later basically you need kernel sources for your phone edit related files and compile it back
for now is enough just to add/remove some apps, custom bootanimation and make your custom ROM
do not flash ROMs/ kernel not made for your phone possible hardware failure
