Edit Custom Rom - General Topics

Hello
I have one question with editing custom rom or stock rom
so I would like to edit rom but I do not know how
i just want add own app, change bootanimation, change name of rom, maybe edit style, add overclocking options, remove unusable app like talk.apk,tts.apk etc...
so i search tutorials on google but i understand it's complicated for me so please help me i try almost all tutorial that I found on google but I had no luck:crying:
i try with add my own app but when i install rom apps not show i just exctract rom with winrar then put app in to system/app then change bootanimation then zip and put in sdcard then install via clockwork recovery but bootanimation work perfect only apps not show!!What did I do wrong?:crying:
please give me detailed step by step tutorial or tell me how edit rom as i said I would only add apps, remove unused app, edit name of rom, speedup rom etc...
please help me I will very thankful to those who will help me

take a look here: how to edit ROM archive
here I just added a keyboard layout file to ROM archive then signed back
you have testsign.jar in attach -use it to sign your ROM
also look here: how to change splashscreen
-do not forget to sign back ROM file is not enough to make .zip
-do not copy apks to /system but /custpack
-if an app is not shown rename it no space between characters
i.e. if this is named "tapa talk" rename to "tapa_talk" or "tapatalk"
-do not touch system apps i.e. browser.apk, framework-res.apk
-to remove an app just delete it
Overclocking ...you will learn it later basically you need kernel sources for your phone edit related files and compile it back
for now is enough just to add/remove some apps, custom bootanimation and make your custom ROM
do not flash ROMs/ kernel not made for your phone possible hardware failure

Hi Manoo,
Thanks for sharing, always good to see addons, tweaks and new ROMs.
Nevertheless, some questions:
Isn't this just a set of apk's? Why use the whole RC7u1 script for this?
Also, what did you change in the following components (they are all different than the ones included in RC7u1):
boot.img
superuser.apk
su
I don't think any of these new apk's need other boot.img, superuser or su, right?
Regards,
Nika.
Idd, I think nikagl is right, what does boot.img and su.apk do there?
Also you should do the following stuff to make this post more attractive:
1. Add tags [ADDON] or [MOD] to the title. like: [ADDON][CRANIUM] - Manoo's addon for Cranium v7 -
2. Use some formatting for your post, like this:

To make flashable zip files u need the following things
1 An unmodified flashable zip ( http://sakindia123.prophecy.li/downloads/RC7/RC7_Update1_CWM.zip) u can get it from here
2 Winrar
follow hese steps
1 open the the zip file in winrar.
2 Click on system directory. then click on the app directory
3 now drag and drop those apks in here and once winrar is done compressing them. copy the zip file into ur sd card and flash with cmw recovery
what in the case when some application is not in the system directory?

[GUIDE] Creating a localized SGH-T959V ROM

Hi everyone
I was getting some queries from Arabic, Vietnamese, Portuguese, Turkish and other languages speakers who wish to have their own loacalized SGH-T959V ROM.
So, here is what we did on HebrewValhalla ROM (Gingerbread BML) :
1. We took Valhalla Final as a basic ROM to be translated.
2. We found an SGS i9000 ROM already localized to the language we want.
3. We decompiled all Valhalla Final necessary APKs to be translated.
4. We decompiled all SGS i9000 necessary APKs to take their translations.
5. We recompiled all Valhalla Final APKs with the the new translations.
6. Pushed one APK at a time with language locality selected. verified and moved on. Finally did it for framework-res and chose language.
7. Minor adjustments, packing and publication.
Explanations :
1. First decide what is your ROM to be translated. download it and save it on a PC.
2. Find and download an SGS i9000 localized ROM. If there isn't such you're in trouble.
3. Download APKTOOL read this. Define the base ROM framework according to instructions and decompile all necessary APKs. save them all locally.
4. In a separate folder use another instance of APKTOOL and define the SGS i9000 ROM framework and decompile the corresponding APKs.
5. Find out what is your language 2 chars lang code (English=EN, Hebrew=IW).
Take out all the APKs Resource\values-XX and layout-XX and place them in the destination ROM corresponding APKs resources. for example :
SGSi9000ROM\APKTOOL\Projects\Camera\Resources\Values-XX should be copied to
ValFnl\APKTOOL\Projects\Camera\Resources\Values-XX
Compile all these APKs (take them from "modded apk") and remove the "signed" from the filenames.
6. Install a locality app like "MoreLocale2" with your selected or manually added language (for Hebrew it was IW, Hebrew) and check your APKs translations.
Once you finish compiling framework-res (and push it to framework folder - preferably through flashable zip or ADB) it will have your language inside and you could uninstall the locality app and choose it in the settings.
This will give you full framework UI support.
7.Take all files and put them in the original ROM location.
A) list of needed APKs on BML ROMs can be found here :
Need to take translations to
system apps:
AccountAndSyncSettings
Browser
Contacts
JobManager
MediaProvider
PackageInstaller
PhoneSetupWizard
SamsungApps
SamsungAppsUNA
SamsungWidget_ProgramMonitor
Settings
SnsAccount
SystemUI
TouchWizCalculator
TSMParts
TW4Launcher
Phone
Camera
TouchWiz30Launcher
TouchWizCalendar
Mms
framework:
framework-res.apk
Working directly from SGSi9000
system apps :
Talk
Street
ClockPackage
Music
Gallery3D
MusicPlayer
VideoPlayer
VoiceRecorder
MyFiles
AxT9IME
CallSetting
DialerTabActivity
Email
Gmail
Memo
B) Most of APKs are in system\app but for full UI you also need to handle the Framework\framework-res.apk
C) If you want to add tweaks and stuff : study how to make recovery flashables - search the web and examine tweaks and bootanimations and how their commands are written.
Now you can install your localized ROM.
Good luck!
(P.S - it took us 2 people about 10 days to release the first version).
Right to left languages (Arabic, Hebrew...) will additionally require RTL tweak - read this
You may need to also copy the fonts from SGS i9000 ROM.
Great
Oh great, man...I'm very pleased helping you with vietnamese yay (just tell me what to do ...and thanx for including Vietnamese :x
I just did...
Please follow instructions very carefully, ask me if you don't understand anything and do it yourself according to the GUIDE.
okay, I'll try my best to start something the next two week (have to finish the next exam week @@)...thanx for your guil...oooh and btw, can you give me any basic links as google is very wide that I don't know where to start with build.prop or framework lines...
You're running too fast. Work according to this with a lot of trial and error and then carry on by searching the xda forums. 99.99% of your questions were probably already asked and answered.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA
By the way, even if there is no SGS i9000 ROM for your lanhuage you can still create the translated strings XMLs, it will just take you much much longer. Probably will need to spread the work with other teammates.

Hi Guys
This method is good for translating ICS ROMs as well.
I use it for HebMIUI.
The only thing changed is the version of APKtool to use and the system and framework apps to translate - this is a post I just sent Mataflikas :
Hi Amigo
To be able to translate Erik's MIUI ROM to Spanish,
What you need to do is go to miuiandroid site and download the SGS i9000 Spanish MIUI ROM.
Than download Erik's ROM. Download APKmanager/ APKtool for ICS and aapt ver. 1.5.0 and place aapt in the 'other' folder of apktool in your pc.
Now you need to copy framework-res.apk & framework-miui-res.apk from the Spanish ROM to the 'other' folder. Register both framework files by running in command line '..\other\apktool if framework-res.apk'
& '\other\apktool if framework-miui-res.apk'. Copy all system\app APKs as well as both framework files to the 'files to be modified' folder.
run the apktool batch script.
Decompile all the apks by selecting (option 22) & decompiling (9) one at a time.
Now go to each apk project folder (located in the projects folder) and enter the 'res' (resources) folder. I assume 'es' is the shortcut for Spanish locale - verigy that!
You need to take all the 'values-es', 'layout-es', 'raw-es' etc. These are the Spanish translations. Now repeat this for all the apks. Make a saparated apktool folder for Erik's ROM, register his own frameworks and decompile the same apks there. When you're done, throw every apk translation to the 'res' folder of the same app in Erik's ROM. When done, run script on Erik's and select (22) and compile (11) is this a system app? Choose YES, let me delete only changed data? Choose YES. Then it will make a 'keep' folder, go there and delete 'resources.arsc' file. Press any key and you have a new file 'unsignedAPKNAME' in the 'files to be modified' folder. Done with all apks you can replace them in the ROM zip and try to flash it. If framework-miui-res.apk is not valid you will enter a bootloop so leave it for the end. I didn't even recompile it on HebMIUI. Last things - you can change default locale & region in system\build.prop and change your gps location by changing the system\etc\gps.conf to the one of your country (google it). Good luck and let me know if you have a question.
And If you want to publish your result - talk to Erik first !

Walkman Z port to stock and custom roms

Hi!! this seems to be a good choice for my x10....
Do I hace to install it as a custom rom?? from xrecovery?? I'm with Unlock Booloader so I suppose I need the stock kernel.... Sorry for my english, Still learning it
Using:
v7 X10S rom
DoomKernel
aiit guys, this is a file i compiled from the needed stuff from the rom in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671574
Should work on CM7 roms. Problem is its not a signed zip (bcs idk how to), so you guys have to copy paste and change permissions yourselves.
another thing is that you need to cross check your build.prop with the one inside. There are a few lines that need to be copied... im not sure what yours is missing so Crosscheck and try to change most stuff to sony.
If you are using linux (ubuntu/fedora) (well with nautilus) just download SSHDroid from the market. turn it on and crtl+L in nautilus type in the link (eg.sftp://[email protected]) then it will ask for password which by default is "admin"
after that you can basically copy your files into the system folder.
(you can also select the files choose properties and under permissions tab edit your perms. ) good luck! enjoy your working gallery
everything works and not work like in the thread i linked above
Download
http://www.mediafire.com/?64l50wul7waiho5
You should use logcat to see which lib is required for each app.

[Guide][Simple]Make your own update patch with Omegadoird rom flasher...

Hi guys...
Recently i had worked in a project (Mini Cayno X 2 link -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/and...update-patch-mini-cayno-x-2-symphony-t2858833 ...
it was a update patch for stock rom...so many buddy ask me in FB that how can i make one update patch for my rom?!!
But due to being busy i cant replay them and now i am free and try to write a small tutorial about this...i hope you will enjoy it... and this is my frist tutorial in XDA...
Frist its not for Developer its for newbie modder who dont know this method...
Ok lets start....
________________________________
Today i am going to tell you a new and uncommon way to make your own update patch...I think everybody knows about Villain rom flasher or Vrtheme...its really a good rom flasher...and you can make your own modpack with this easily...but i dont talk about this...beacuse there are a lot of guide in Xda about this...
Now i am going to tell you about Omegadorid rom flasher... This is an "Universal Flasher Tools" like villain rom flasher...
This flasher was made by JRsoft & Intronauta...
And more info and updates about "VillainTheme System" here:
________________________________
Now i am going to how can you make your own update pack...
Frist for any Error or brick i am not responsible...
________________________________
Now requirments ->
1.Good file manegar or Root ecplorer...
2.good image editor like pixeler express or pic say pro...
3.Simple and common knowledge in udate script...
4.and free mind...
________________________________
Now download this omega flasher uploaded by Me...beacuse i lost the main thered link...
link -> ( http://www.mediafire.com/?pks4i2nx3w9l6d1 ) (Size: 2 mb)
After downloading make sure that what you want to add in your update patch...like i wants to add some nessesary apps, themes and some brinaries...
After decieding extract the zip in a new folder...like i extracted it in a new folder named new projects...
then you will see some folder like thats ->
1.META_INF,
2.MORPH,
3.tools,
4.XTRAS,
5.mod.config,
6.Reed me.txt...
Ok now frist lets talk about meta inf...i think everybody know this folder...and you must have knowladge about this folder...if you dont have then see this tutorial -> ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1931585) (dont forget to say thanks to pitchblack5691 )
Now MORPH folder...
this is the main folder...here you can put your modded png files what you wanted to add in your apps...i will talk about it lettar...
then tools folder...in this folder you will see some files...dont touch them...this is the main files of your update pack...
then XTRAS...in this folder you can see some folder like system, sdcard, data etc etc...
if you wants to add somethings like apps in system folder then drop your apps in XTRAS/system/app..you can add fonts, new boot animations, modded build.prop and brinaries too...i will talk about this latter...
Now mod.config...This string will be added to build.prop for identify the
version or author of the mod and will be visible in
Settings - >About. Please avoid to use the character "=" into
the string.
now About readme.txt...here you will find somethings like how use this flasher etc etc...
________________________________
All done...now start making modpack.... .Its very easy...
Put in "/XTRAS" folder files that you want to add recreating
their full paths. Note that /XTRAS is equivalent to root path in
the internal memory:
e.g:
/XTRAS/system/etc/gps.conf
/XTRAS/sdcard/Wallpapers/MILF.jpeg
/XTRAS/data/app/Youtube.apk
/XTRAS/whateverfolder/whateverfile
you can also add system app here...just sing your app and drop it in XTRAS/system/app.you can add some app to xtras/data/app too...and in sdcard folder you can add some files like viper kernels or your lunchers downloaded themes.for example frist download all themes from your luncher settings.then search them in sdcard.if you found them, then copy the files with whole derectory like i found my themes here -> sdcard/xluncher/themes.So i copied xluncher folder and paste it to XTRAS/sdcard folder.By the same way you can add anithings in your sdcard just copy your file with whole derectory and paste it in xtras/sdcard...
i hope you understand about using XTRAS folders....
Now uses of MORPH folder...
>> Put in "/MORPH" folder your "morph themes". Note that /MORPH is
equivalent to root path in the internal memory and you must rename
folders like the apk but with extension instead the metamorph form
This process will only works in the following folders: /data/app,
/system/app and /system/framework.
e.g:
/MORPH/system/app/Settings.apk/res/drawable-hdpi/***.png
/MORPH/system/app/Settings.apk/classes.dex
/MORPH/system/framework/framework-res.apk/resources.arsc
/MORPH/data/app/****.apk/res/drawable-hdpi/**.png
you can add your modded png here...like i want to add new paltlogo...so frist i mod my platlogo.so that i extract my framwork_res by root explorer and find the paltlogo.then i found them and copy the derectory that where i found them like i found them in framwork_res/res/drawable nodpi. So i made my own logo and renamed them as same as in my stock framwork_res like platlogo.png and put them in the same derectory where i found them in stock framwork_res...like MORPH/system/framwork/framwork_res/res/drawable nodpi...done...now you add another pngs in the same way...but dont forget to renamed your pngs in same name as the main pngs...i hope you understand what i say....now your theming has been done!
>>but It's very important that you take a look to MOD.config file to
enable or disable features a/or set special commands if you need
it, i.e for setup your sdcard layout used in your recovery if you
get sdcard errors, set a mod name visible in Settings, etc..
>>ok now create zip of your updatepatch and Flash and enjoy!!
Having problem with update script?!!See my script -> ( http://www.mediafire.com/view/?dl1mta6j8t82w8u ) (Size: 3 kb)
######################Some KNOWN ERRORS ###############################
>>If you get (Status 0) error flashing, you need an update-binary
specific for your terminal. You must look for and extract the
"/META-INF/com/google/android/update-binary" file inside a zip
compatible with your terminal and replace it in the same path into
the UFT. You also can consider to replace the whole META-INF folder
in the MOD with the other compatible, except the updater-script!!
>>Please, report us errors if you get!!...
N.B ->to add somethings like brinaries/fonts/apps data/etc etc you must need to set permissions and Smyalink them...so,Dont forget it and if dont know how to set permission or create Smyalink then dont try to add them.in some devices all pngs are found in drawable-xhdpi/drawable-xxhdpi/drawable-mdpi...so you must need to know that in which folders your pngs are stored...for this just extract your systemui or framwork_res...then see thats where are all the pngs stored...for example:if you find all pngs in drawable-xhdpi then go to morph folder and renamed all drawable-hdpi folders to drawable-xhdpi... if you find all pngs in drawable-xxhdpi then go to morph folder and renamed all drawable-hdpi folders to drawable-xxhdpi...and if you dont understand anythings that i said then comment here...Thanks !

[Q] Hey guys, I need some advice please

What is the best way to decompile Apks? Is apk tool the best option? As i feel like it's a complicated tool.......
And is there any way to decompile Apks and edit xmls on android without using a computer?
Another think is that i am thinking about making some kind of rom for our device, so just want to know the basics for doing this(making a flashable zip - modifying SystemUI - Framework).....
My rom is not going to be such a huge development because i am still a starter,so i am thinking about making a rom that contains all of the awesome things that other developers made ........
It will be based on one of the custom roms available, and for now, this is what i think it will contain(Xperia Z3 Apps by strayder~007,smart social camera, working sound enhancements, one of the cool frameworks,Xperia lollipop firmware Icons already included........etc).......
You should know that I will never use any of the ports that others made without their permission.....
Please let me know your opinion!! Don't read and just leave without replying......
If anyone wants to help me, let me know, i will start building my rom after 17 /6......
But i need your help starting from know......
The first step is knowing how make a flashable zip right?

Ok thanks for your advice, and about the rom, it will be based on an already built custom rom by someone else with some apps ported by others and some small modifications by me, just to make sure it won't lead troubles.
Would you like to help me with flashable zip?
I will be ready when you are ..
And about your phone, what happened with it?
Is it working now? How did it brake?

1) Best way to decompile apk files is to decompile them using Advanced APK Tools (this tool is specially made for Xperia software)
2) To make ROM you need
* Rooted Device with CWM installed.
* Build Version of the Deodexed Stock Backup / base ROM should be same as build version of your Device.
* Deodexed Stock System / Any base ROM
* You can edit SystemUI.apk, Home.apk, framework.jar, framework_res.apk,build.prop,settings.apk other system apps and files, Media Folder, Bootanimation.zip file, you can add more apps and animation and tones etc and what else you want to... depends upon your creativity.
* Tools Required : Advanced APK Tools(java should be installed to use this tool) , Photoshop, BootAnimation Creator, Notepad++, Windows Image Re-sizer, 7-Zip etc.
* Meta-INF folder which you can get from any existing ROM, boot.img which you can get from CWM backup of your device.
* Firmware ftf file and Wmshua Tool for in case you get wrong with your device.
* Permission from the OP of the Threads from where you get the Raw Material and also give Credits to them.
