Captivate yellow tint? Not blue - Captivate General

Has anyone ever experienced a yellow tint on their captivate? I just received my 2nd Captivate from AT&T after doing an exchange. The 2nd one seems to be darker and has an obvious yellow coloring on the screen. It makes it look like a summer 6pm afternoon sunlight casting over the colors.
The first one was more white and bright. I know many people have said they've experienced a blue tint, but has anyone experienced a yellow one? I'm seriously deciding if I should send this one back as well.

I just got a replacement phone from Amazon. It does have a yellowish Tint. I can make it go away by turning off auto brightness.

I think I'm going to contact AT&T and get another replacement. I paid non commitment pricing on this phone and I just don't feel satisfied with the QC. If I were to turn off auto brightness, it only makes it a little better, but compared to my original one, it still has a "dirty yellow" look to it. Plus, turning off auto brightness will make it drain my battery faster, so I find it unfair that I have to do that.

Here are my photos I just snapped right now using the "Screen Test" app.
The screen on the right is my 1st original Captivate
The screen on the left is the 2nd replacement Captivate

I guess my first one (right) is considered to be the ones with "blue" tint, but I actually favor that over the one on the left because it's much brighter. As you can see in the photo, the one on the left actually looks washed out and dull. The color is not as vibrant, and gives a yellow / dirty brown look to it.
I already called for a 3rd captivate to be sent in to me, I hope that one will be much better.

I'm in the same boat as you, mike. I just got my replacement yesterday, and it's more red. My original has the blue tint. I prefer the blue tint as well. I'm going to request another replacement and see how that goes.

Yea, it doesn't look as bright. I'm receiving another replacement in the mail tomorrow, I really hope it'll be brighter.
What are you going to do if your NEXT replacement is red again lol

Haha I'm not sure yet. BTW, is the vibration on your replacement a lot louder than your original? Mine is and it's annoying. That's actually the main reason i am getting another replacement.

Front-facing camera

Is the actual lens of your front-facing camera completely centered in the black circle? Mine is off to the side.
mine also was gonna ask the same thing mine is to the right
mine as well
Mine is off to the right of the middle. I also noticed I have to hold the phone at an angle to center my face on the screen. Anyone else notice that as well?
Mines off the the right as well. I did notice this on the demo phones at T-Mobile. I think it's just a production thing? Don't let it get to you.
Yay mine is centered perfectly, I win. Woot woot!!!
Seriously though, my camera is centered.
Mine's off-centered in the circle. Additionally I have to hold my phone tilted down and to the left to center my face. Thinking about getting it exchanged.
Just in case there weren't already enough confirmations of this, mine is off the to the side as well.
mine is off a bit too. I have to hold the phone at a bit of an angle in order for my face to be centered. Visually, the camera is shifted a CH to the right. Not a big deal for me.
I did call T-Mobile for a different issue. The CS rep asked how my phone was and I mentioned the camera issue. He says there wasn't anything in the system about build issues with the camera angle but he did make a note of it.
Centered on mine, good batch in my case
Mine is centered and my ugly mug displays right in the middle of this awesome phone.
Mine is off also but at least i got the high quality display lol...

Mine is off but I would gladly like to have the better display instead anyday.
so if you have a centered camera you have the bad display but if you have off centered camera its the good display? has anyone tested this theory yet? i would much rather have the better display if thats the case.

No, I have off centered camera and bad display.
Mine seems fine to me. Maybe off by a hair but it works perfectly and that is all I care about.

[Q] Another type of screen defect? (Not light bleed)

I have quite a bit of light bleed on my transformer but what bugs me the most is a spot that is noticeably brighter in the middle of the screen. It's noticeable under normal lighting situation when the screen is showing dark colors.
Anyone else has this problem? Or am I just the only unlucky one?

Luckily I don't have this problem ( I do have light bleed) but I was reading thru the warranty and Asus explicitly say that you may get 'white dots' and 'black dots' on your screen. Basically they mean dead pixels.
Read thru the warranty, see if your spot fits the description.

I have the same issue. No light bleed but an annoying 1/2 inch blob 2 inches away from the left-hand side & dead centre in the screen. It is only really visible on on dark screens and appears milky white. I am thinking about returning it to eBuyer but they do not have any stock in at the moment.
Regards
StalkS
I have 3 lighter spots, btw they are deffinately not dead pixels.
Only realy show up on dark backgrounds and when brightness is really high such as when playing Galaxy on Fire 2.
I would describe as some kind of mark on the underside of the glass between the touchscreen and the IPS screen if that makes sense
I don't think its that bad that I would go through the hassle of an RMA tho.
Sooo.......
Im having what I think is the same problem with the spots in the middle of the screen. Has anyone tried sending it back? I want to know what to expect whether there is any information I should hold back etc. . .
Can anyone help me? Thanks in advance.
(also I got mine from bestbuy and I think its already been 2weeks which is past their normal return period. I also have put a custom rom (revolver) on mine and I haven't really looked into reverting it back to stock. Does anyone have experience with the stock process?)
Thanks again and sorry for the long post. Cheers

[Q] [ATT] White or Gray

White or gray?

My thoughts exactly- it's white for me (just to try it out)
i got the gray simply because dirt/debris is going to show up easier on the white model. i really wanted the white, it's pretty sexy
I love the back of the gray. I think I might have to just pre order the gray.
I got the white. The way I look at is eventually its going to turn grey lol.

More than likely gray. Seems like everyone and their mother has a white smartphone now, especially the iPhone. UGH
I like the looks of both of them. The only thing that gets me is that the Gray looks just like every other Android phone HTC has put out in the last two years. I want my HOX to stand out.

I have never had an Android HTC phone before so I guess I never thought about it like that.
Great input everyone
I think I might have to get the gray mainly because I think the back is sexy and I don't want to have to worry about a white phone getting super dirty.
I much prefer the grey, but I pre-ordered at RadioShack and the scuttlebutt is that they are only getting white. So, white it is.
I went white because it look good and is different.
All of my phones have been black/gray... so im going to try the white. If i dont like it, I'll probably just switch it out at costco.
Grey for me, white phones are defective lol jk
Also, when an isheep looks at your white HOX and tell you that HTC is copying apple...tell them that the G1 was the first white android phone.
Sent from my SGH-I777 using XDA
I went white, I think the detail with the rolled glass edges on the screen really pops in the white model.
I went with white because I wanted something different from all the black/grey phones I have had in the past 9 years. It will be nice to have to something different.
I got a grey one and thought it looked a little ordinary. I got a white one to compare them side-by-side. The white one looks bigger because of the color difference between the body and display and it also looked like it way trying too hard to make a statement. When thinking about which I’d be happier with six months from now I kept the grey one. All just personal opinion.
Very east to clean ...

Permanent smudge splotch on screen

Just got my Note 3 and I'm loving it. However, I recently noticed upon closer examination of my screen that there is a permanent smudge mark that ceases to go away. It only appears when there is a large build-up of normal smudges or when I breathe on the screen.
Here is what it looks like:

Anyone else have this issue? To check, just breathe onto the screen creating that fog-like cover.
From what I have gathered, it is "oleophobic screen coating" wearing off but I have had my Note 3 for four days so it has not gotten that much usage.
I don't have that problem. Does this only happen when you have smudges or breathe on it? If so then I would suggest a screen protector either tempered or film.

Once I wipe the screen of all smudges, it goes away. But as soon as there are more smudges it becomes visible.
Is it worth exchanging?
If you are within you return policy date then yes I would. I'm the type of person if I knew it was there even though I don't see it it would bother me lol.

Mine seems OK, I'd suggest bringing it back also. If it is the coating of the screen vanishing this fast then that's a build issue. - could also cause weaknesses to the screen any time further down the line.

I have the exact same issue. My smudge is alot bigger. Its horizontal a little above center of the screen and about an inch long. It drives me crazy. I can wipe my screen completely smudge free and if I breath on it, there it is! It is starting to exceed the limits of my OCD medication!! :banghead:
Edit: Mine was like this since day one and noticed it about 10 minutes after purchase.

I have never seen anything like that before. If that was my phone i would be seeking a replacement ASAP!!!!
i have the exact same issue here, except the location, which makes it interessting:
mine is exact over the place of the indicator LED, and goes up to the top in a "U" form!
and i do not know why, but i did not encountered it before. could the light (and the minimal
temperature) from the led has something to do with this?
Probably is the coating worn off. I had something similar on my old phone. I ended up polishing the entire screen with a little bit of white toothpaste to remove coating elsewhere and give it a better appearance.
Wow I didn't think there we some many cases like this. What the hell is Samsung doing to these screens?
Reading this thread. .. It's just unbelievable that you guys haven't gone and got a replacement. No way should you be having any of these issues on an expensive flagship phone. Take it back is all I'm going to say. I haven't got it. ... If I breath on it the fog disappears Just as Fast as it came. ..

HELLO, WINDOWS PHONE
I've walked on the top corner of my note 4. Since then, a stain appeared ont the screen. That stain keeps growing covering up the display day after day. It is dark at the center, blue in the midlle and purple at its ending side. What must I do to remove it? Please, can anyone advice me.

Which Color did you Order :)

I ordered Midnight Black from T-mobile last night. What color did you order?
Orchid Grey S8 via TMo on Twitter this morning.
Midnight Black...
the black is the best, but it catches finger prints like hell....don't know yet...i have to see them in real life to choose
Midnight Black, not that I'll get to see it much when in a case. My last 3 phones have been Gold and I'm so fed up with it. It'll make a nice change.
I chose black but was tempted by the grey. I just didn't like how it looked purple from some angles.

I went with black on Sprint. I wanted the coral blue but they only have black, grey and silver(I think it was) available. It will be covered with a Batman case anyway so I guess the color isn't really an issue.
I wanted Coral Blue, so I didn't order anything. First I want to see the other colors in person, if it's anything like the Note 7 the pictures will not do the colors justice.

That's very true. I almost immediately had buyer's remorse when I saw the blue in person... BUT with that said I always fall back to wishing I had black.
Went with black, it was a pita to find cases that matched my s7 titanium.
I don't use cases and my hands get sweaty in the summer so I didn't want black. Silver looks kinda plain. So I get Grey.

Well there are such a thing as clear cases. But me, I never use case and I've never broken a phone either. Some of us just aren't that clumsy (or like me-super clumsy but somehow manage to always save the phone from damage).
I went with black but I'll end up throwing it in a case or rocking a dbrand skin

I get why the front of all colors is black - to hide the gazillion sensors and make the glass look even more infinite. But that means all but the black phones are two-tone. Purple/Black, Blue/Black, etc. My first Note7 was black and I ordered it because I liked the monochromatic look. My second Note7 was Blue Coral and I missed the black one after a couple of weeks of use. Samsung took care of my remorse by taking my phone away completely. I went with the S8+ in black to again get back to the monochromatic look. The "gotcha" with such a dark color is that the hairline scratches on the glass back accumulated over time will be much more noticeable than with lighter colors.
