Milestone Update Question - Motorola Milestone Android Development

The new 2.1 update has just come out for my milestone. But if I update will I lose my root. I rooted with easyroot and If I lose my root can I re-root?
Thanks in advance
Sent from my Milestone using XDA App

What exactly is in this update, does anyone know? At 34MB~ it can't be FroYo so I really don't know what to expect but why would they bother with such a small update when FroYo is supposed to be coming this month?

bamp for also broken root needing a solution.
want to keep the enhancements the update delivered.

it supposed to be coming till the end of the year not this month.

its just some enhancements update. nothing special(2.2 is due on the Q4 of this year). if you update it i think you can root it again.
to be on the safe side just do a nandroid backup.

when i updated i could no longer reroot my milestone as i kept getting the "E:EOCD marker occurs after start of EOCD E:signature verification failed" error is someone knows how to fix it that would be great but for now i recommend not update to this update as there seems to be very little difference apart from the fact i have no root now

Why not flashing the vulnerable recovery first via RSD lite Tool? http://android.doshaska.net/rootable

There was a Twitter post by O2 Germany that said by the end of September. I'm going by that as it's more official than endless rumours and gossip.

Nothing cant be more official by Motorola Europe.....Its not a rumour. It was moto's statement that milestone will get the upgrade by the end of the year.-

Ugh. Look, I know what the Motorola update page says but that only says planned for Q4. What's to stop it being released sooner? Nothing.

Jesus christ the update that is rolling out consists of bug fixes and a more overall stable 2.1 image.
You probably wont see froyo this year .... got.s page has a internal source that says that they even haven.t started to work on froyo .....
You get the ecd error because your vulnerable recovery isn.t installed and you need to flash a new sbf file.

Do they need to start working on FroYo? Aside from the bootloader and the radio are there any differences that would require a totally new version than the Droid has?

u loose the point...the only reason for all this, is that moto want to sell milestone 2 and xt720 first which both of handsets have froyo out of the box.Thats the reason why they have announce that they ll comlete the update even on q4 for some countries.(i am talking about froyo btw)
For sure dont expect froyo on milestone before december.

Updated Hero software (Software – 2.31.651.7) 9/22

Looks like they are releasing an update to our Hero's.....don't get to excited it just bug fixes but better than nothing.

I wonder if there is much of a performance boost for those running stock derived 2.1 ROMs?
At least we know Sprint isn't ignoring us. It'll take a lot for me to go back to stock, though. Do we know if this will kill your root access like the last update did?

Since that is the only enhancement/Fix listed I sure hope it would be a noticeable boost.
will this make us loose our roots or roms or anything? I am using NFX-Hero would like the update but don't want to mess up anything that i have done.
Awfully vague description they've provided about today's update. But, not surprising coming from Sprint...
Has HTC posted any elaborations on their website?

anyone able to update yet?
The rom-makers will be able to integrate this into their roms, right? I'll just wait for the updated roms to come out.
When I click the link all it takes me to is the sprint information on the update... the link on the sprint page takes me to the 2.27.651.6 Ruu download... Sprint is so lame.... Why post an update if your website hasn't made it available??

If you update you will lose it all. The update (in your case) should come from infiniteFX, especially since he was one of the earlier proponents of building off of the .6 versus .5 build.

You have one of the coolest signatures i have seen. +1 for you lol
anyone get prompted for the update yet? i keep probing but comes up nothing...
If I could get a hold of this I would gladly try it, i can't get it over the air or online. I've installed darchstar's S-OFF hboot and it persisted through 2 runs of the 2.27.651.6 RUU, so not having root wouldn't worry me.
to hell with sprint, im pissed about this update. we didn't need it, what we needed was a sense froyo. what a waste of a good opportunity.
I find it interesting that they give different reasons for the update for each different phone. I ruued back to stock .5 kernel and did the .6 update and will adb pull the update off my hero if I get it. In case anyone gets it the update is stored in /cache. You'll probably already know this but you can download it and not apply it.
Anyone know if there is a new radio in this update?

No... wait for the Facebook update like last time lol. If it is anything else, it could be 2.2 update 1 (throwing out numbers) that has the Unknown Sources option for 2.2. ATT announced after Amazon App Store came out that they were going to fix that for all phones.
Or... it could just be a needed update for Kies

Hmm. I believe you. I usually fire up mini first thing in the morning and this is the first time it updated (to this version).
Is there another source for the mini Kies other than having it look for updates when first loaded?
I believe this update came out two days ago and its just android 2.2 still, not 2.3. I tested it right before updating to the leaked gingerbread.
Hmmmm... Still nothing updating on my laptop. Still on 11001_4. I also would be interested in a direct download link.

Check your baseband version. If it is like ucke3, then you probably downloaded the uckh1 update that was released ota kinda recently.
Stupid ATT i thought they promised to give an OTA update of gingerbread last month itself but like always you cant trust their words.
Update - I have some software update that is going on right now, wonder what is this all about file is 14542kb which is doubt will be GB

That's UCKH1
anyone now if you loose root ?
Yep, thats the pre-lim update that came a week or so ago (for me anyway) I installed it and actually my InFuse felt a bit speedier but it didn't break my root or anything either. So I'd say go for it (at your own risk of course) mileage may vary.
It's the UCKH1 baseband update and possibly bootloader update aswell.
I tried playing by the rules and using this updated version for about 3 days. Battery life was horrible. I had to switch to my N86 halfway through the day so it could charge V_V I would recommend getting infused. It's so much better than stock. So. Much. Better.

T-Mobile G2x Gingerbread OTA Update Resumes

After a not-so-smooth attempt at rolling out Android 2.3 Gingerbread for T-Mobile G2X users, experience-breaking bugs ran rampant throughout users’ phones prompting T-Mobile and LG to suspend updates. It took quite a while for them to get things ironed out, actually, as I almost forgot that the T-Mobile G2x even exists. In any case, the Gingerbread rollout is back on for those who are sick of frozen treats. Alongside Gingerbread, you’re also apparently getting improved battery life for your troubles. Yay! Get to the link ahead for the full instructions from LG. [LG via Droid Dog]
As of December 5, T-Mobile will restart the rollout of the Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) Over-The-Air (OTA) update!
If you would like to update your software before receiving the OTA, please visit the LG website (link to: http://wwwstg.lg.com/us/mobile-phones/G2X-Driver/index.jsp) to update your device today.
The G2x Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) update includes the following benefits:
Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) OS
Improved battery life
Improved front-facing camera operation when using Qik record and share
Improved disabling of Car Home
Helps address unexpected reboots

So what if I was on GB, I flashed back to froyo, then I tried to flash back to GB but I got "installation aborted" when I tried, then I saw this and I unrooted and flashed stock recovery and I go to update via LG update tool and its telling me Im already on v21e when im 100% positive Im not? What do I do now?
Hey my sis has the G2x and she had a lot of problems with it so she installed GB on it a few months ago but it still froze alot. I dunno if it was official or not. Is this new update the same update?
yes, it is the same update
So i received this OTA update but when i click on the notification to try to update it it takes me to the clockwork mod recovery screen idk if this is supposed to happen. i never received the update, until now, so i rooted it but i kept the stock rom 2.2 i was just wondering if i would be able to update my device with it being rooted or if it being rooted is a problem.? idk if this happened to anyone else but input and help would be greatly appreciated.

For those that are saying, "It's the same update".. how do you know there hasn't been any changes during a 5mo delay? I'm not saying it isn't the same update, but people just typing it on a computer screen doesn't make it true.

It doesnt make sence why would they just stop only to start the same garbage update again? They have to have fixed it some. Maybe it is still 2.3.3 but its gotta be different. I would have hoped that they would roll out the 2.3.4 that they used in italy for the o2x. At the very least they should have fixed the stupid camera. I could be wrong but it just doesnt make any sence to me

So, is the official ICS out or not?

Hi all
I have this simple question, on behalf of those that, like me, didn't stay updated with all the developments after leak 1: has the official ICS OTA for AT&T been released?
Thank you!
E.
It has not been released yet.
It depends on which region you live in.
I think besides AT&T ...... everyone got OTA !
correct me if i'm wrong

Well the soak test which was done by Motorola was found to be same as the second leak. It's build date,md5 sums everything is a match.so untill and unless there are some major bugs in the soak test version(which actually is running pretty smooth),there would be no major changes in the final OTA released.so yeah you can assume that the OTA will be same as the second leak.

Well, I am running an ATT Atrix 2 on leak #1 (SCv7), when I go to System - About phone - System updates I get a message that says Update available with a version number of 67.21.125. I did not sign up for the Soak test, so that tells me that there is an update available. Maybe you guys should try checking on your phones to see if there is an update available.

Well that my friend is what leak 2 is.i don't know if you already know this but actually the update u'r talking about has been around for over a month and a half.that update or leak 2 or soak test all are the same 67.21.125 with a build date of Fri Aug 31, 18:50:08 CDT 2012.the only difference between them is the source they were obtained from.leak 2 was pulled from Motorola servers thanks to project cheesecake.while when leak 1 was "leaked" AT&T released an OTA Update to make the leak official and removed a few bugs.so that is what u'r seeing in the system updates right now.and these were matched with the soak test version and were found to be the same.

No, actually alteredlikeness and I are the ones who examined them both and found that the soak/ota is the same as leak 2, and we posted the info the day the soak went out.
Still nothing from moto about an official OTA date...
Contacted motorola yesterday. and i was told that the soak test was started on 25th September and after successful completion of soak test, the OTA will be out in batched in 5 to 7 days. Have a look at the Help application in your mobile phone. it already shows videos and tutorials on Android 4.0. Wake up guys. we are going to hear the good news very soon. Motorola was successful to complete the ICS update in Q3 as promised for all the world except for a delay for ATT who customizes the Rom and apps for it self. but the soak test have started in Q3 for ATT too.. lets hope for the best to happen.
