Hey guys,
I just used a flashtool to upgrade to android 2.1 today since the official upgrade isn't available yet. Everything is working well, except i'm not able to use 3g. Is there anyone out there who might be able to help me remedy this problem, or at least tell me what I probably did wrong? I'd really appreciate it.
The official upgrade is out there. Plug your phone into your computer and update from the se software

I have the X10a. and whenever I plug it in to use the PC companion for upgrade it said my phone was up to date even with android 1.6. Was I missing something?
Alright i figured it out. I just needed to add the att apn infornation to the phone. Aftet that it worked like a charm
Helllp!
I have been trying to root my x10a. I managed to get to the point where superuser is on the phone but it does nothing. I tried to update the superuser as the message went something about 'bin v su' and update but the update failed. I tried to use superone click and got it to state that root files are in the phone now, but I tried to use titanium backup and it says must be rooted. I spent the last few days forum hopping to find a solution, downloaded SDK setup and all platforms and tried to manually put in code from the cmd.exe and it gives me something about adb is not recognized as a command. I googled the error and tried some of the recommended fixes at sxeveral sites, but I have had no luck with instituting superuser to full function. I am sure I am doing something wrong but I know I'm close. HEY YOU GUYS! (electric company on PBS)

The official upgrade is not out there in all markets. SE is setting a record for the time frame required to diseminate an upgrade globally. Comical.
You have to input the APN Settings for your carrier manually.
I do not understand and I intend upon putting 2.1 in it after its rooted, but it tells me that I need to flash into recovery for SU, but I can't back up the phone without proper root...or can I? Please more info. I generally do not ask for help, but I am in up to my nostrils with this and I want to succeed. I have tried superone click, I downloaded androot, but i CAN'T EVEN GET THAT TO RUN. Several others and manual. So do I flash from here? with no back up? and if so, how to flash to recovery, please. thanks.

If you are on 1.6, then SuperOneClick will not work. You need to be up to 2.1 for SuperOneClick to work. I do not know Androot though.
Thanks I will search how to input the APN and check in from here.
OK, I am trying to root my X10 and this is the first time that I have tried to do something like this. I am on step 2 of a guide which is to enable USB debugging and run 2_root_system, but every time I try to do it, it says "Error: Device not found" please help as I did the flash downgrade to start the process and my phone is really basic right now.
Thats very similar to the issue I'm having. Its related to the USB driver. However, I can't seem to find the USB driver to talk to the phone so that the root can be sideloaded to the phone.
im from india, i hav an unlocked at&t grey market piece. It shows on my PC companion dat d latest software is installed on d fone. how do i g8 it from 1.6 to 2.1 o betta?
Hi guys, I need some help here. I'm a noob to rooting Android phones and I'm reading as much as I can to learn as much as I can but I have hit a little hitch.
I recently got the new HTC Inspire 4G from ATT and I'm trying to use super one click. I installed the Android sdk and every possible add-on for the sdk.
The problem is every time I try to use super one click it hangs as soon as it tries to do psneuter and the same thing happens if I use rageagainstthecage at the same point.
I have no idea why this keeps happening as I think I'm doing everything correctly.
Please help me figure out how to did this issue so I can use this program and root my phone and allow installation of non market apps.

No offense but if you spent 2 seconds reading a little bit you would realize that there is no one click root for the inspire YET. However there is an alternative method to root that involves making a gold card. All of this info can be found in android development.
super one click doesn't support the inspire right now. to root and enable sideloading, start here.

from what I heard and read, There will never be an easy root for the Inspire. I followed the directions using ace hack kit with successful results. I'm Rooted and already flashed Leedroid ROM.
Go to the IRC channel if you have problems. But first thing is making a Goldcard. That's a must

Ok, so i had read and attempted that method also. I have attached a screen capture of what happens when i follow that guide................ nothing!
I open a prompt directly in the folder with adb in it and i run the command, obviously without the unnecessary path, and it starts the process and never returns the magic number that i need.
Any ideas what to do next?

First time in the command window type "adb devices" and wait for it to return line describing your device. Then you can proceed with the adb shell commands.
So i tried the "adb services and it just gave me a long list saying the same thing on every line and that it was offline. Then i ran the original command and i got a different error.
Again i attached a screen grab of what happened. Thanks for all this help guys.
I did exactly the same thing as the guy in that video did. Literally step by step. I just don't get that number when i try it.

Well HTC is a little different. Some HTC users feel they are elitist who feel that if you have no idea about basic adb commands then you shouldn't be accessing root. This is just my opinion from back when I had a magic and dream. I'm not talking about anyone directly, but that vibe can be felt sometimes in the HTC forum.

Did you turn on USB Debugging in Settings > Applications > Development?
Install HTC sync. It will install the correct driver to get adb to work
If you are only wanting to enable non market app install, superoneclick will do the job perfectly.
1-Install HTC sync to get appropriate USB drivers installed.
2-Connect phone to PC with USB cable and set it to charge only when asked by the phone which choice you want to make.
3-Put phone in debugging mode.
4-Run superoneclick as administrator.
5-Run the root for universal.
6-When that finishes click on the button to enable non market apps and let it do its thing.
7-Once all of this is complete you can disconnect your USB cable.
8-Now shut your phone all the way off then restart.
You should now be able to click on any APK file in estrongs file explorer and install it with no problems. This does not root your phone but does enable the ability to install non market apps. Also, shutting the phone all the way down and restarting may not be necessary but that is the way that I did it and it worked flawlessly.
There still will not be a setting in app management to enable non market apps but they will install after following this procedure.
Now, go and have some fun with all those apps you have stashed but couldn't install beforehand.

Im sorry but I didn't really understand
1. Did you try to root your phone? And now you want to go back to stock?
2. You managed to root, but it's stock after reboot? Only the superuser app left, but no root rights? And you want it removed? If so, the solution is simple. Menu-->Settings-->Applications-->Manage applications. Scroll down until you find it.
are you sure its going to work for my galaxy s plus?sorry about my worries byt i have read so many things that i am so confused if you can answer me if its going to work for greece and if you can point my to the procedure???
thanks so much for your answer i am waiting for your answer
i tryed to root with cfroot multi downloader....after reboot i saw the superuser icon in menu but none commander would work as root.....and i cant remove the superuser app because it isnt in software>programs....so i thought to return to stock and reroot.....
but then i thought to try the last one super one click procedure.all went well i gin root access but my phone went sluggish immidiately so i rebooted....after reboot root was gone......i also ryied easy root unroot with no luck...\and the strange thing is i cant find to application manager
CF-Root? I think CF-root is not for SGS+, but for the normal SGS!
And SOC afaik do not support SGS+ officially.
So just use the rooting-procedure as described here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1253707
i also tried this with no result root and unroot....i cant imagine what else i could do

I have done a lot of reading her about rooting and updating my TF300. After getting a headspinning amount of information, I'd like someone to verify what I think I know.
I have a TF300, stock ROM, no root, running US .17. I have not received any updates after going to Settings/about tab/update and pressing the update button (I get "no updates found') I have cleared DM and CM client and rebooted several times, but no updates are found. I have tried on several WiFI networks I have access to.
1. I should be able to root using one of several one click methods I have found here, correct?
2. Once rooted and root keeper is installed, I should be able to update to .29 and keep root, correct?
3. A manual update to US .29, once rooted, will cause me to lose root, correct?
4. Will I receive Over The Air update once rooted? If not, how can I update to US .29 without losing root?
5. Is this the best path to take, or is there another path that would be easier for a newb like me (I know just enough about Android to be dangerous)? What I mean by another path is, should I manually update to US .29 and wait for a one click solution to come out later, all the while enjoying the new update.
6. All this is to fix some lag issues I have with all browsers....Tried Stock, Dolphin, Firefox, Opera...all the same. Some FC and others just hang for up to 30 seconds, even in Performance mode (With only one tab open!) So this will "FIX" those lag issues, correct?
Thank you for your time
If you're still on .17, root with sparkyroot, save it with ota rootkeeper, update to .29 (if it isn't there, they've been posted in many places on the forums), and restore root. As for fixing lag issues, it depends on what you do, rooting alone won't change anything, but you can try out the different tweaks available.
Sent from my Incredible 2 using Tapatalk 2 Beta-5
Missed a couple of your questions, yes, you will still receive ota updates if you're rooted, as long as you don't unlock the bootloader. This is the easiest way to root too, all you need to do is follow sparkyroot's instructions and back up your root.

One question always leads to another
Thank you! But of course, I now have just a few more questions.
I do understand rooting alone will not help me with my lag issues. I'm hoping the update to .29 will. I am not a power user, but I would like the option open to me later to install ROMs, hence why I want to root now.
1. I thought I had to unlock bootloader to root. With sparkyroot I do not?
2. Since I have not unlocked bootloader, will rooting alone void my warranty? I thinking not since I should be able to unroot with no trace, correct?
3. I thought, (or read somewhere here, I think) that if I do a MANUAL install, I would lose root and be unable to regain it. If I get an update PUSHED to me by ASUS, Ill be able to regain root with rootkeeper. Is that correct?
I'd like to thank everyone here, by the way, for all the information I have gotten in my 30 days of owning this tablet and lurking here.

No need to unlock for root. They are completely unrelated. Just update manually and use THIS THREAD to root .29. There's even a one-click tool like you wanted. Don't forget to press Thanks for miloj.
Oh, and after you've updated to .29 and rooted; don't forget to use OTA rootkeeper to backup root.
If Asus releases a new update it may save your root.

He's still on the .17 software, so no need to do that. Just use the sparkyroot method, backup with rootkeeper and then update.
Edit to add that no, rooting will not void the warranty, just unroot before you need to send it back.

Yeah, he's still on .17, but he's not getting the OTA prompt. He wants to manually upgrade, and you can't restore root after a manual upgrade, so my advice still stands.
Thank you both! Rooted with Sparky root and backed up with OTA rootsaver. Now I have downloaded the .29 update from ASUS webpage and installed. It says I have lost root.
I tried to restore root with OTA and it says SU restored, however it does not show that I have root access. Tring to use Titanium BU also shows I do not have root.
Tried then to go back to Sparkyroot and try again, but to no avail. Do I now have to downgrade back to .17 to gain root because I messed it up, or is there a solution? I was rooted for several hours before the upgrade to .29.

Ah, ok. Didn't realize you couldn't restore if you updated manually.
Yes, it is as I thought. Tried Sparkys and miloj's root program and I can not get root. I ran the program twice from my lap top. Driver's for TF300 show installed in Device manager (Windows 7). ASUS sync was installed in laptop and recognized TF300 but the program was not running during root attempt.
When I run Superuser and attempt to update SU binaries, I get "Failed" when it attempts pathway to write update.
Attempted to restore using OTA rootkeeper but all I get is "SU Restored". Check boxes indicate no root.
Any other ideas?
Confirmed I am on .29 from a MANUAL update.
Tried again from home computer. Ran Sparky and miloj program. I get error stating
"failed to copy 'Superuser.apk' to '/data/local/tmp/Superuser.apk' : not a directory"
Tablet reboots and says I should be rooted but obviously not. Superuser not written to tablet

Can you just install Superuser from the market? The su binaries might be there and the app just isn't installing. I may be wrong, not sure how the automated program works, but it can't hurt.
Just tried that. Installs fine but when I try to update binaries, I get error writing to filepath, telling me there is no root. I'm hoping this makes 10 posts for me so I can actually go to Sparky's thread in Dev. forum and ask directly. Thanks for your help tho. Ill still be monitoring here if anyone has a solution

Try manually doing the code from miloj's thread?
While the instructions in his thread are clear, they are way past my level of expertise. I would not attempt it without someone standing next to me. I have not entered code since the 1980's Compute! magazine days.

Well, I can't think of anything else, you could just use the downgrade method, that's easy enough. The code really is just copy/paste though.

Your problem is not with the superuser apk.
The actual root is when you write an "su" binary to system and makes it executable (there is some access control stuff in between, but it's what's happening in essence).
So - your trouble is not with the installation nor the messages from superuser.apk - it's with the actual rooting method.
Make absolutely sure your adb drivers are working and that you've got the files "debugfs", "su" and the other debugfs file on top of the .bat file, which is the installation script, in the same directory whilst running the .bat file.
Agreed. I posted this in development.
It was surprisingly more difficult to install the drivers correctly than anticipated.
For those noobs like me, here's a step-by-step for installing the drivers before running the root method.
http://transformerprimeroot.com/tra...all-transformer-prime-usb-drivers-on-windows/
Please note that before using the step-by-step guide above, I also had to put the tf300 in Camera Mount to even get the "“ASUS Android Composite ADB Interface" option to show up in Device Manager.
Once you get this far, you can manually update the driver (found in the sparkym3 "Drivers" folder from the download) via the step-by-step.

Hy, Thank you for checking out my post.
I got little problem,
So i wanted to play Clash Of Clans on my phone, the only problem i have is that the application is incompatible.
So searched some fixes how to do that, and the majority of them were APK file's or Buildprop or Market Helper.
And they all looked great and that they would work, but every time you needed to Root your phone.
This is my first time rooting a phone so i wanted to be sure i would not make any mistake's or fails.
So i was looking up on how to root my HTC Desire S, and i came a cross this site that noticed me on the program called: HTC Quick Root, but im wondering what to do from there since there are no tutorials or forum's that show this work's, or maybe i am just a retard in searching stuff...
But yea, i was wondering if you guys know if its: Safe? Or how it works? and what Root Method to choose (Universal Exploit or Insecure Boot.img, i want Market Helper btw)
Pleas let me know, and if you guys think im a dump ass and im doing something really wrong, pleas dont go hard on me, im a noob

You need S-OFF + insecure kernel to use the Quick Root.
Easy way to gain ROOT access:
Unlock your bootloader using HTCdev.com
Flash TWRP (custom recovery) via fastboot
Flash SuperSU (root) via TWRP

Any reason to get mad ?!
root = gain root access for your device
S-ON/S-OFF means "Security Flag" of your device on/off. Stock is S-ON
I can't suggest the "quick root" as it won't make anything easier for you if your device is running stock android.
TWRP is a "custom recovery" which gives you the ability to flash any custom roms or zip files. SuperSU is a zip file that will grant you permanent root access.
