[Q] Navigation Vehicle Icon - Android Apps and Games

Is there a way to change the stock blue triangle/wedge (the thing that represents your vehicle during navigation) to something else, car, truck, taco, hammer... similar to the Garmin GPS option? Talking about the vehivle icon and not the short cut icon to launch the program.
THanks

Yes, if you make a google layer or tool you can change it, you would look towards google labs to better assist you in how to make it, however no guarantee that they'd make it official

Bluetooth icon size function change + calendar default view

Hi,
im lookin for some info on changin the size(making it slightly larger in size) and function of the bluetooth icon on my Imate jam, i was hoping to make it a tap, tap+hold icon, so that tap would activate/deactivate BT an tap+hold would go to further settings. anyone heard of anything like this going around, id prefer to customize the original rather than using a 3rd party fix unless it fixes the original directly. any suggestions as to how i might go about this would be well appreciated.

anyone heard of a way to make the stock calendar always open on a certain view?..ie always open to month view even when closed from a different view. i know if you close it it will retain the last setting but i usually select day from month and edit then close..which sets the view to day..... i assume it would probably be a reg edit but i couldnt find anything in the even mentionin the calendar. again any help would be welcome.
thanks Speedn

Haven't heard of something like that, but maybe this is a useful alternative for you:
Try buzz_lightyear's SwitchIt (look at this post). With thisyou can place shortcuts on your today screen which allow you to control your bluetooth settings. Besides switching bluetooth on/off/discoverable you also can switch on/off your devices infrared. It runs perfectly on my MDA compact.
I'm working on a little frontend, which will allow you to control all your connection settings on one single page (see also at the above mentioned post).

Hi. New here, have some questions about ThrottleLauncher & Touchflow

Hi all.
Kind of new to this all, and just fumbling my way through everything.
I have ThrottleLauncher loaded on my AT&T Tilt, along with Touchflow3d (and TFlow3D_gullum)
And after seeing the youtube clip on the .9 beta and what it can do, I am finding that I cannot get my phone to really respond in all the ways that I'm seeing in the video. Maybe Im missing some plugins or something else, but here are some questions:
First is the main toolbar at the bottom. Whenever I touch it and want to slide it around to get to specific icons, it doesnt really rotate, it just kind of slides a bit and then activates something. I'm not able to scroll around on it unless I use the directional pad on the phone. Also, is it possible to 'replace' programs that launch with the icons? For example, instead of the Phone's contacts launching, can I get it to launch my 'Good' software contact list? Or with the music player, I am using FlipSlide. Can the music icon be reset to launch Flipside instead of the windows media player?
Can those icons on the bottom be put in any specific order?
I also see in the .9 beta video, that you can flip the middle of the screen by the clock to see different clock views or appointments, etc... Not sure which version or theme that is.
I guess my biggest question is how do I get the bottom toolbar to actually scroll instead of activating things, and can that bottom bar be customized to point to other apps?
Thanks.
If I'm posting this in the wrong spot, please let me know.

I'm after Bigger fonts, Sat Nav, Bar code reader and other apps

Hi all,
I've just got a TD2 as my first WM device, and my first PDA since a palm 5 circa 2001/2. I can see that this will be very useful, although I'm not sure it will fully meet my ideals - see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=514973
Anyhow, there are somethings I would like to get sorted immediately.
Firstly - BIGGER FONTS! I have adjusted the screen setting to the largest font but this really doesn't seem to do it form me. Certainly, the vast majority of system tabs and setting are still very small. If I could only adjust one thing though, it would be the font size on the text messages. The zoom bar doesn't work here - it doesn't work in a lot of system screens - which I think is a real shame.
Sat Nav - a have seen the mention of TomTom, CoPilot and Navigon from several source but I'm not sure which one to go for. I use a standalone TomTom a work and am very happy with it, but is this the best for this device?
Bar Code Reader - is there such a thing? I have seen an app someone posted regarding 2D dot bar codes, but what I would like is to be able to read standard striped bar codes.
Bar code reader would be nice, But isn't that only for Android?

Hi,
did you try that, there's already a Topaz version
and using it as a bar code reader is not its main function
but very smart application, have a look

regards
Thanks for the link! I'll try it when I get back from school!
IS ther anything that will read simple striped bar codes, such as serial number - that's more along the line of what I was after
this will use your camera to take a photo of a barcode and then go online and do price comparisons: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=368798
oh and for a free GPS soluton that does turn by turn directions outloud (unlike GMaps and Liev Search) try AmazeGPS: http://www.fuzemobility.com/amaze-gps-free-turn-by-turn-gps-app/

Overlay shortcut possible ??

Hi
here is my need, when i drive i can use on my HD2 tomtom and Pocket music player, so it could be very nice that when driving something like tomtom icon overlay can be always somewhere ontop when i use the music and in the musice the tomtom icon, like this to switch between application is only one finger to use
So the idea is to have an easy way to switch application, no matter wich one in fact, any ideas ?
br
ah ah i reply myself, i have just found this gesture application that is good for what i need
This is LMT launcher, just assign gestures to application, and that'is
have a good day

[REQ]Car friendly UI

I am thinking of installing an Android tablet into my car as a carpc. Android is not very vehicle (minimal attention) friendly so an app maybe a home screen type application could solve this.
I have an idea of what it could look like nothing to complex. I attached a mock up. The buttons on the right can be bigger or more of them and can be customizable (auto call text playlist) the volume on the right could be a stage up down (more clicks the louder long press for mute) or slider whichever. Perhaps digital OBD II gauges could be added as well if screen size is big enough.
Haptic feed back and definitive clicks sounds should be optional so you know you have hit a key.
The wall paper behind everything should be customizable maybe visualizer or album art users choice.
I think simple gesture could be implemented as well slide for new song up or down for voice activities (voice search or vlingo) I'd have no idea what to do on the programing side, but I could learn and help.
Any ideas or volunteers leave a comment if this is done I'll delete but I could not see such an app not that I knew what to search for. this could be quite popular in the CarPC forums if it has not been done before. Market wise ad supported with a one time payment pro version (2-5$) would probably have best sales. (I just want the app take the idea nothing expected here, except maybe I get it free ;-). I'll help test)
bump it up
Android Car Dock available in 2.2+
Its a stock app
Not quite what I'm looking for all that is is short cuts to non mobile friendly apps. It also doesn't look as seamless as a single solution would.
Try Desktop Visulizer, it can create as big icons as you want, selecting custom images.
A new home screen and widgets seem to be the best choice at this point. "Where I'm at" widget is great for the maps part and a volume up down widget works great for volume. I haven't found a reliable media mute widget tho. Just about any music player has a mobile friendly widget.
A voice command app that pauses music correctly would really help though lol.
I'm interested send me a pm with more info and ill look into it

it is possible to have a map view in the middle of the application but not a navigation view as it is not documented by the api and simple odb2 data is easy its just serial data but not being able to ingrate navigation posses a problem
I was talking to the developer of "Where I'm At" and he said he would look into it. Could an alternative GPS app be used or even a 2x1 widget with next turn direction. Sounds like the best bet would be a new app with everything built in already. That would take away from customization of different music apps unless an option was coded in.

Only if it was open source because most navigation apps are paid and it is against the terms of service to use
