Overlay shortcut possible ?? - General Questions and Answers

Hi

What time is it ? how do you reply to it with your PocketPC

Have you ever had a nice girl or someone asking you the time ?
surely yes. And I guess that most of you like myself do not wear a watch anymore and use their PocketPC instead.
Does any one know an application that could be assigned to a button to display the clock in FULLscreen mode. And then just pressing on the screen (or pressing the button again; a toggle button would be nice) would go back to the previous use of the PocketPC.
This way to would be easy to show the clock in fullscreen without having to start a heavy application.
Any suggestions for such an application?
Don't know about an app, but why not have the clock to always show in the titlebar?
I have the clock in the titlebar, but when you want to show the time to someone in the street it is too tiny, too small for the eyes.
rlToday looks really nice, but what I would like is just a pop with the clock. I have already too many stuff on my today screen, no space available.
I have just tried Spb Time, the screensaver screen would be perfect, but does someone know our I could launch the Spb Time screensaver screen with the push on a button ?
For this I need to find the command that does start it.
I Think u should try using Spb Mobile Shell...it's definately the right choice for ur need..
Try SPB Mobile Shell
Just released, adds a NOW screen when you turn on complete with clock. Press a soft key to go to today screen.
Using on mine, like it a lot.Only works with WM5.

That looks quite nice. Just for comparisons sake with wisbar, does it allow multiple today screens or just the "now" screen and a "today screen"

it is quite nice... especially when driving! but it does only allow 2 screens, the today and the now screen.
Mike, Wisbar Desktop could be a solution, you are right.
I have actually tried it a long time ago, but thought it was just a nicer way to display shortcuts to launch application. Am I wrong or I haven't looked at it enough. I prefer to use the start menu to launch application (I use WA2 by the way, and the cascading start menu feature is really Nice).
Can you have 2 normal today screen with WAD and switch with one hardware button from one another?
I have also looked at Spb Shell, and it seems to me that it is a way to get a simplified and more nice looking PocketPC. But I find the default WM5 today screen more convenient, and I would have to remove WA2 (I guess they can not run both at the same time..)
The other issue it that if someone ask you the time, you have to quit what you were doing to display the clock on the today screen.
Hi Mike, So as I can see with WAD you can create several desktops, create you own shortcuts. But still I prefer to use WA2 cascading start menu.
As enclose I made a screenshot of my today screen. I thought again, what I really need is a kind of screensaver with the clock so that anyone not accustomed to using a PocketPC is not lost with so many things (I guess that even the top and the bottom bar displayed can be annoying) and can just read the time. I going to investigate the command that has to be used to start 'Chronos' screensaver.
try ae button plus

touchflo 3d blocks access to system tray

Hello. I am a bit unhappy Touch PRO user because I love touchflo interface but would like also to use system tray-controlled software like openvpn or vsUtil.
I already installed secondtoday (also replaced the "Phone" softkey with it) but there is no way to make REAL tray icons appear there, only fake launcher stuff with Homescreen PLusPlus. The way left to access tray-controlled apps is to quit tochflo today plugin thru loooong series of taps thru settings.
I-d love an alternative such as make real tray icons still appear in Secondtoday or a lightweight tray icons porting popup app. Any other ideas/clues how to get an easy access to tray icons from touchfo....
Thanks for reading
Looking forward to hear Your thoughts
I agree.
My office forces us to use the Good email system. That software uses its own version of the email client, calendar and contacts. I'd like to reassign the tray "buttons" to point to the Good programs rather than being stuck with quick links to now unused versions of email, calendar and contacts.
Ira
Hi,
did you find a solution to the problem in the meantime?
Without the trayicons i have to choose between a pretty finger-enabled gui or using my universities WLAN.
Kind regards,
samoht

i assume you are talking about enlargetitlebar which which gives you easier hits on the "system tray" notifications. you should be able to disable it in the registry. mess around in hklm\software\htc. there might be an enable dword you can set to 0. i dont have it installed on my rom and i kind of miss it so i may try to get it back on my next flash.
No, i refer to the system tray at the bottom of today screen as shown in this screenshot.
The manilla interface is drawn on top of it and theres no easy way to access it. I have to disable touchflo in the settings, then start openvpn and afterwars reactivate touchflo. This is annoying... too bad openvpn relies on this.
oh yeah. forgot all about that thing. havent seen it in years. try a tf3d to today switcher thing. ive seen ones that it changes the left home tab soft key to the words "today" which lets you have a second today screen and today items and i guess the system tray too along side tf3d. ill try to find it again.
edit: try this -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=480475
@The Jack of Clubs:
Thanks so much! This works for me, i can switch between classic today screen and manilla rather fast!

[REQ] top-down, down-top sliding app

I am still using UltimateLaunch even with all these new UI's out there for the customization abilities and small footprint (only have 64mb on the i760). I am looking for someone to develop an application that I can launch using the gestures feature of UL. The application(s) would slide in from the top or bottom to reveal a quicklauncher, task manager, etc. This would be similar to Android. If anyone could develop this or if there is one out there that I am missing, please let me know.
erm have you tried FtouchSL ?
it 's just what you need
I've been thinking of doing something like this for a while with icon based panes.

Hey ather,
I don't think that is what he is talking about. Keep in mind that UL does have gesture support, so it isn't about the gesture itself, but rather a program (possibly with a nice transition animation) that can attach to UL as some sort of an addon (like he said, think of the Android launcher menu).
@joshrys
what you could do is to install Slither's cube. It can be easily installed and has a very smooth transition effect. Just associate the Up-Down/Down-Up with UL and you should end up with a nice interface. Just my two cents...
ah sorry my bad, didnt read the whole thing properly, he wanted to use the UL's gestures
Thanks for the suggestions, i currently have IE set to launch with a down swipe and the comm manager with the up swipe, I am just looking for an app that will slide down and up with the swipes for launching things. FTouch is a great program, i have used the trial before, but not necesarrily what I'm looking for. UL is great, the up/down is just about the only thing I think it's lacking. it goes left/right, why not up/down?
Have you tried MortButtons? You can configure it to do what you want and it has a task manager and it's skinnable.

Let me see if I understood correctly... you are basically asking for UL to behave like a cube (not the Touch cube, but an actual six-sided cube [maybe even more sides]). I have waited for something like that for the longest time. The Touch cube (Slither's, Byka, etc) has been the closest thing I have seen to my "dream". However, just like UL, there is no Up-Down/Down-Up swipe launchers.
It would be nice to have something like that without having to install multiple apps to get the wanted effect(s).
I guess if the programmer of UL can release his code, it might be easy to modify in such a way as to adapt the missing swipe functions....
Is there anyone that is willing to give this a shot? (I cannot program if my life depended on it )

Looking for Task switcher

I've searched all night and installed and uninstalled nearly 1/2 dozen apps and can't find what I'm looking for.
I'm trying to find a simple task manager like switcherbar.exe on WM2003 or WM2005 for my Sprint HTC Touch Pro2. I don't want icons, fancy displays etc or a bunch of other unrelated features that consume memory or processor. I just want a simple clean tool that does the job as well as it did on my Dell Axim 50v WM2005. It should reside is a small icon in the task bar and display the running applications when I tap on it. I tap the app to change to it, or tap end app to close it.
Yes I know it's boring, but it's efficient, stable, and takes virtually no memory.
I've tried Magic Button, and pBar (the closest so far) but can't find anything that actually as simple and intuitive as the old switcher bar. I've even tried copying the file from my dell to no avail.
Thanks in advance.
wktask ... also try ae button plus and set a hard key to alt-tab
On my blueangel i have the windows media player button set to launch the default task manager. Not pretty by any means, but it works well and is fairly fast after it is loaded into memory
switcherbar.exe replacement.
wktask has an button for each running program and also changes the behavior of the X button. If I have more than a few programs running it obliterates the icons on my task bar blocking the icons there (signal strength, bluetooth etc). If I reduce the size of the buttons enough then their not finger friendly at all.
I'm trying to find a simple replacement that's a simple icon where I tap it to see the list of running programs with the option to close the active program or all programs like switcherbar.exe did. I don't want program launchers and I really don't want to remap my buttons. I like them the way they are. Actually my phone only allows me to remap my talk button anyhow.
If I could get switcherbar.exe to work on my Touch Pro2 I would be absolutely thrilled!
Maybe I named the topic of this thread wrong. I should have called it "Looking for a switcherbar.exe replacement".
I guess I'm looking for something too simple in a world where everyone like bells and whistles.
I use Wisbar Advance, it shows icons of running programs right on the taskbar, so I use my Touch HD like it's a desktop PC . And I also use Alt-tab from SPB Pocket Plus mapped to HW button not exactly what you described (and not freeware), but it's the best multitasking experience I've ever had
AE Button has a nice task switcher; assign a button to it, and you're good to go. It doesn't alter the function of the 'x' button or the task bar. You need to pony up 7 bucks, though.
I bought SPB pocket plus a while back (then later switched to something else). I copied out the standalone alt-tab.exe program that installs with the package. I just made a shortcut to this executable and then assigned a button. Worked fine even after uninstalling pocket plus. It doesn't reside in memory, it only functions when called upon.
I always liked the task manger in Homescreen Plus Plus.
I wish there was a way to put a small icon up on the task bar at the top of the screen linking to the HTC task manager. Very finger friendly, but not very accessible. You have to leave your program and go launch it. Kinda defeats the point of a task manager.
In the mean time I think I've finally found a program that I can use. It's called HandySwitcher. The icons are a bit small and it's not the most finger friendly app out there, but it's always available, takes little memory, doesn't require button remapping to function and it just works. Maybe some day a more finger friendly program like that will be made. A link on the top bar to the HTC task manager or something similar for those that don't have a HTC would be perfect.
Thanks for the input.
AppSwipe Task Switcher
Came across this in the market. Its is free and has the ability to add favorites for faster accessing.

[REQ]Car friendly UI

I am thinking of installing an Android tablet into my car as a carpc. Android is not very vehicle (minimal attention) friendly so an app maybe a home screen type application could solve this.
I have an idea of what it could look like nothing to complex. I attached a mock up. The buttons on the right can be bigger or more of them and can be customizable (auto call text playlist) the volume on the right could be a stage up down (more clicks the louder long press for mute) or slider whichever. Perhaps digital OBD II gauges could be added as well if screen size is big enough.
Haptic feed back and definitive clicks sounds should be optional so you know you have hit a key.
The wall paper behind everything should be customizable maybe visualizer or album art users choice.
I think simple gesture could be implemented as well slide for new song up or down for voice activities (voice search or vlingo) I'd have no idea what to do on the programing side, but I could learn and help.
Any ideas or volunteers leave a comment if this is done I'll delete but I could not see such an app not that I knew what to search for. this could be quite popular in the CarPC forums if it has not been done before. Market wise ad supported with a one time payment pro version (2-5$) would probably have best sales. (I just want the app take the idea nothing expected here, except maybe I get it free ;-). I'll help test)
bump it up
Android Car Dock available in 2.2+
Its a stock app
Not quite what I'm looking for all that is is short cuts to non mobile friendly apps. It also doesn't look as seamless as a single solution would.
Try Desktop Visulizer, it can create as big icons as you want, selecting custom images.
A new home screen and widgets seem to be the best choice at this point. "Where I'm at" widget is great for the maps part and a volume up down widget works great for volume. I haven't found a reliable media mute widget tho. Just about any music player has a mobile friendly widget.
A voice command app that pauses music correctly would really help though lol.
I'm interested send me a pm with more info and ill look into it

it is possible to have a map view in the middle of the application but not a navigation view as it is not documented by the api and simple odb2 data is easy its just serial data but not being able to ingrate navigation posses a problem
I was talking to the developer of "Where I'm At" and he said he would look into it. Could an alternative GPS app be used or even a 2x1 widget with next turn direction. Sounds like the best bet would be a new app with everything built in already. That would take away from customization of different music apps unless an option was coded in.

Only if it was open source because most navigation apps are paid and it is against the terms of service to use
